This is a voice-over reading of my essay "Revolution and Reaction" published on my Substack. In this essay, I articulate my definitive position on the revolution versus reform debate, testing the revolutionary left's case against the historical record, arguing that every revolution calls up a reaction at least as ferocious as itself, and showing how social democracy delivered most of what revolution promised without the bodies. It opens with a short preface on the October 2026 riots in France and closes on why revolutionary communism in the West is now a LARPer's posture, not a threat.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by political theorist Benjamin Studebaker to discuss Trump's failures, Canada's trade war with the US, and whether Mark Carney deserves the hype. We debate the limits of American power, Europe's supposedly revolutionary right, Fukuyama's end of history, the fallout from the Iran war, and what AI's military applications reveal about its capabilities.

In the Patreon-exclusive Backroom, we discuss how AI safety panic can function as AI marketing, my experience with an AI safety sponsorship offer, AI's uses and limits in research, and the strange ideologies of Silicon Valley.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Haz Al-Din, Chairman of the American Communist Party and host of Infrared, a long-requested and highly controversial guest. We get into why Infrared broke with the American left, MAGA Communism and patriotic socialism, China and the limits of liberal democracy, what socialism with American characteristics could actually mean, the failures of Soviet socialism, markets vs. planning, and whether AI and cybernetics are pushing us toward a radically different economic system.

In the Patreon-exclusive Backroom, I press Haz harder on whether he is really a Marxist or closer to what I call a national-conservative socialist. We also get more personal about our shared Lebanese heritage and experiences growing up in Lebanese immigrant families, along with Islam, Christianity, socialism, culture, and the strange overlap between our backgrounds despite our political disagreements.

    Show notes

What you are about to listen to is a short essay I posted on Substack a while ago that was originally a speech that I presented at my friend Greg Guevara’s (the YouTuber known as Jreg) “Anti-Clanker” rally back in September. It was an event about critiques of AI, featuring other guest speakers such as YouTube creators Gokanaru, Art Chad, Duncan Clarke, Were in Hell, and Cricket Guest. I didn’t publish my speech because I had not launched my Substack yet, but I figured I might as well put this article out now before someone else writes something that says more or less the same thing (maybe someone already has, but alas). Enjoy!

BONUS EPISODE: This conversation with Christian Parenti was originally released as a Patreon-exclusive episode of The Backroom, recorded well over a year ago. In light of recent disclosures and renewed scrutiny surrounding Dr. Anthony Fauci, the origins of COVID-19, and U.S.-funded coronavirus research, many of the questions raised in this discussion have become newly relevant, which is why I think it is worth releasing publicly now.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Christian Parenti, professor of economics at John Jay College, contributor to Compact, author of books including Radical Hamilton, Tropic of Chaos, and Lockdown America, and son of the late Michael Parenti. Parenti argues that much of the left abandoned its traditional skepticism of state and corporate power during COVID, embracing lockdowns, censorship, vaccine mandates, and what he describes as “scientism.” We discuss school closures and class, the Canadian trucker convoy, Big Pharma and Big Tech, vaccine mandates and civil liberties, biodefense and gain-of-function research, the professional-managerial left, and why Parenti came out of the pandemic identifying as both a classical Marxist and a classical liberal.

In The Backroom, we discuss the topic of dating, Socialism & civilization, and debate whether libertarian socialism can scale.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Daniel from the YouTube channel What Is Politics? to unpack what we call the “Lizard Left”: the use of egalitarian and left-wing language to reproduce hierarchy, status competition, and social control. We discuss wokeism and the Socialism Conference, the DSA and the “rebel priest class,” why the left struggles to connect with ordinary people, what socialism actually means beyond the Soviet legacy, whether socialism can scale, and what dating apps, social clubs, tribalism, civilization, birth rates, and immigration reveal about the deeper problem of rebuilding a viable left.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by political theorist Benjamin Studebaker to revisit the idea of the “neo-left” and ask whether Pedro Sánchez and Spain’s Socialist Workers’ Party represent an alternative to neoliberalism or a left-wing way of administering it. In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Peter Ryan, founder of Ryan Research, to recover a forgotten tradition of political economy that refuses the usual choice between Marxism and free-market liberalism. We contrast Karl Marx with Friedrich List and Matthew and Henry Carey, trace economic nationalism from the American System to MMT and Ha-Joon Chang, and ask whether national sovereignty, protectionism, and state capacity offer a more practical path to development and anti-imperialism.

In The Backroom, the Patreon-exclusive segment, we expand this conversation across three additional episodes with Peter Ryan. We discuss nationalist internationalism and Arnold Toynbee’s theory of civilizational cycles; Henry Carey, rentierism, Marxism, and the Irish struggle for national liberation; and, in a nearly three-hour finale, the post-left/post-right convergence, the moral limits of markets, immigration, industrial policy, class coalitions, empire, and whether any populist project can escape establishment capture.

  12. The American Revolution: A Revolution Unfinished

This episode is an ElevenLabs voice-over of “The American Revolution: A Revolution Unfinished,” an essay I originally published on the Fourth of July on my Substack, 1Dime Review.

Get access to The Backroom, with 100+ exclusive episodes of 1Dime Radio, on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDime

In this essay, I examine the contradictory legacy of 1776 and argue that the American Revolution was both a genuinely radical democratic transformation and a project complicit in slavery, racial domination, and Native dispossession. Rather than abandoning the language of liberty and popular sovereignty to the right, I argue that the left should reclaim the unfinished democratic tradition running from Paine and Jefferson through abolition, labor, and civil rights, and complete the promises that America’s managed political system was designed to contain.

This is an Elleven Labs voice-over of an essay I released a while ago on my Substack titled "The Post-Woke Age: Making Sense of Mamdani, AI Job Loss and the 'Vibe Shift“ A Post-Woke Age,” (Part 3 of my Genealogy of Wokeism series). In this essay, I argue that the Fourth Awokening is exhausting itself while AI-driven white-collar displacement could produce a Fifth Awokening through a broader crisis of elite overproduction. I also examine the return of class politics, the appeal of neoreaction, whether a “woke right” really exists, Zohran Mamdani’s rise, the left’s inability to learn from defeat, and the political trajectory of the Palestine movement.

  14. Marxism vs Elite Theory (Ft. Chris Cutrone)

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Chris Cutrone, founder of the Platypus Affiliated Society, to debate the professional-managerial class, elite theory, and whether either offers a better explanation of today’s left than Marxism. Taking Cutrone’s essay “Was Lenin PMC?” as our starting point, we clash over the 20% versus 80% framework, liberal democracy, managerialism, the role of intellectuals in socialist politics, and what Marxism is actually for in the absence of a proletarian socialist movement.

In the Patreon-exclusive Backroom, we move from history into strategy: whether a viable class coalition must extend beyond the proletariat, why Marxism still matters, whether Cutrone is really as Marxist as he claims, and why most self-described Marxists have no real commitment to communism. We also turn to the Graham Platner fiasco, the culture of #MeToo, and some characteristically hot takes from Cutrone.

  15. The Culture War is The Class War: A Theory of the Two Lefts

    Show notes

This episode is an ElevenLabs voice-over of my essay “The Culture War IS the Class War: A Theory of the Two Lefts,” the fourth and final essay in my Genealogy of Wokeism series, originally published on my Substack.

The essay challenges the familiar claim that the culture war is merely a distraction from the class war. Instead, I argue that the culture war is one arena of class conflict, driven by elite overproduction and an internal division between two increasingly incompatible lefts: a class-first left committed to universal economic transformation and a woke cultural left rooted in the professional-managerial class.

Using the Bernie Sanders campaigns of 2016 and 2020—including the defining confrontation at his 2015 Seattle rally—as case studies, I examine the left-unity trap, pseudo-radicalism, institutional capture, K–12 education, gender politics, and the tendency of post-woke leftists to dismiss live cultural conflicts as fringe distractions. The essay argues that a serious working-class politics cannot succeed by ignoring these conflicts or indefinitely accommodating the faction that dominates the left’s institutional terrain.

In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by philosopher and writer Daniel Tutt, who recently co-authored the book The People Are Not One: Socialist Strategy After Left Populism. We discuss why left populism failed, whether socialism can avoid populism, Bernie Sanders and the problem of recuperation, Trump and Bonapartism, the difference between populism and democracy, working-class “common sense,” Gramsci vs. Machiavelli, and the widening class divide between the contemporary left and the people it claims to represent.

There are two Patreon-exclusive Backroom episodes this week: one titled“Strategizing the Class War” and one titled“Culture War As Class War,”Daniel and I continue the debate over what a serious class politics would actually look like. We get into the PMC and the “cultural apartheid” between classes, immigration, welfare and lumpenization, rentierism and private property, Christopher Lasch, DSA and woke politics, and whether the contemporary left can be reformed from within or is already locked in a civil war over what socialism is supposed to be.

I sit down with political theorist Benjamin Studebaker to challenge assumptions on the far left about Marxism, communism, class, and revolution, from the decline of the organized working class and the rise of rentier capitalism to Marxism’s missing theory of politics, the failures of one-party states, China’s relationship to the world system, and the fantasy of world revolution.
