There is analysis of a stable starting line-up that was quickly discarded at half-time, what some of the substitutions say about player standings in the squad, the disorganisation that led to villa’s goal and Renee Slegers’ post-match comments lamenting the energy and intent at the start of the game. Arsecast Extra Episode 719 - 02.11.2026
Show notes
In this episode we look back at the massive win at Anfield on Sunday after Kai Havertz's first half goal was enough for all three points. We analyse the Gunners strong start to the game, and opportunities to score a second, before the game swung back towards the home side in the last part of the first half. There's discussion of Jurrien Timber's foul on Alexander Isak which probably should have seen Liverpool awarded a penalty, and the big miss from Alexis Mac Allister, before we look at how Arsenal's hugely impressive defensive strength kept the opposition at arm's length for the second half, and what this result means for the title challenge even at this relatively early point of the season. In part two we answer questions about egregious play-acting, Mikel Arteta's subs, Declan Rice's standing in the pantheon of Arsenal signings, Bruno Guimaraes' integration thus far, and lots more.

Episode 898 - Forward questions
Show notes
In this episode I'm joined by Harry Symeou to discuss Arsenal's midweek elimination from the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two Fleetwood Town. We chat about the team selection, the goal we conceded, and the goal we scored before the conversation widens out into questions about the team's attacking potency, in particular the roles of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres, and whether the club need to be active in the January transfer window to bolster the forward line. We also chat about the red card issued to Max Dowman, the decision to appeal it, Mikel Arteta's reaction on the sideline when the 16 year old trudged off the pitch, the penalty shoot-out, and lots more.

Arsecast Extra Episode 718 - 26.10.2026
Show notes
In this episode we look back at the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday afternoon. Arsenal grabbed a first set-piece goal of the new season through Ezri Konsa, and it was an early goal too, something we haven't seen a lot of this season. We chat about how we ought to have been further ahead at the break having played very well, Mikel Arteta making another triple change and we examine the reasons for that, and Gabriel scoring his first goal of the season to give us a nice cushion in a game we absolutely deserved to win. There's also discussion of Bukayo Saka's injury against Bayern Munich and whether how he's used needs to change when he returns, before we answer listener questions about the 8 second rule going against David Raya, what kind of team/squad we should expect for the game against Fleetwood Town, Max Dowman's minutes, the state of play at Man Utd, managers and their technical areas, and lots more.

Arsecast Extra Episode 717 - 18.10.2026
Show notes
In this episode we look back at the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. Not a lot happened in the first half, and Mikel Arteta made a change at the break bringing on Noni Madueke for Eberechi Eze. We discuss how much of today's performance was about what Arsenal were missing in terms of attacking quality and how much the home side made life difficult for us. We assess Madueke's match-winning contribution, then relive the final three minutes when Forest had three very good chances to score and try to understand how that happened, before we try and make an assessment of the team so far this season. In part two we have questions about Eberechi Eze, the impressive start Ezri Konsa has made to his Arsenal career, Declan Rice and Bruno Guimaraes, Max Dowman's scant minutes so far this season, and lots more.

We begin with some surprising selection decisions from Mikel Arteta, and a first half which saw the opposition pose more goal threat than Arsenal. There's discussion of how the game changed, the impact of the subs, how to frame the performance and the result, and some chat about players who didn't get off the bench. Episode 896: Mikel's big extension
Show notes
In this episode I'm joined by Kaya Kaynak to discuss the big story of the week – Mikel Arteta's contract extension. We reflect on his time at the club, where we were, where we are now, how we got here, and the context of the work he's done since his arrival in 2019. We also chat about what the future holds with a manager who is ambitious and not just signing a new deal to let anyone, least of all himself, rest on their laurels. There's some focus on player contracts too, with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, David Raya and Kai Havertz situations ready for action, as well as how some of the Arsenal players fared during the Interlull – in particular Viktor Gyokeres scoring four in a row for Sweden, and whether or not that puts him in the frame to start against Leeds on Saturday. All that, and much more.

Episode 895 - Almost a billion ...
Show notes
In this episode I'm joined by Philippe Auclair to discuss the Premier League statement released this week in relation to Man City being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges made against them. We discuss how strident the statement was, and how well presented the evidence is in the findings document, before we chat about coverage of this in the media, whether there might be political interference in any punishment the Premier League might dispense, and what the future holds for the club as long as the current owners are in place. We also touch on Pep Guardiola's statement, what level of sanction might be applied, how the Pandora's Box for legal action from other clubs and beyond has only just opened, the impact on fans, and lots more.

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 176: Bridge over troubled water
Show notes
In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie look back over Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and ask where it leaves the season, how much the issues in front of goal are tactical and how much they are psychological, and how much increased squad depth is leading to confusion and a lack of cohesion. There is analysis of the team selection, a promising opening 30 minutes, another sloppy goal conceded and substitutions that appeared to create confusion over clarity. In part two, Tim and Jamie field questions submitted on BlueSky.

Arsecast Extra Episode 714 - 27.09.2026
Show notes
This episode is dominated by the biggest story in football right now, Man City being found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges that have been leveled at them by the Premier League. We discuss that verdict, the length of time the case has been ongoing, before exploring the impact their financial doping has had on the game. It doesn't just impact other clubs, but fans too pay the price for the inflationary landscape. We also discuss the possible outcome and what we think would be suitable punishment for what they have done, and the way they have damaged the Premier League and football more broadly. There are some listener questions too, touching on Mikel Arteta's connection with Man City, how the league should respond, as well as some brief Kai Havertz/Viktor Gyokeres chat, and more.

In this episode we look back at the 3-0 defeat away to Brighton on Saturday. Arsenal struggled from the off, and we try and understand why we couldn't cope with the way the opposition pressed us, and ask whether we could have dealt with things differently in terms of how we tried to play. There's analysis of the goals we conceded, where we weren't switched on enough defensively, and on more than one occasion we allowed Brighton too much time and space outside our box. We also chat about Mikel Arteta not changing anything at half-time, the substitutions he did make but at which point we were down by three goals, some chances we didn't make the most of, and how concerned we should be after our first loss of the season. There are also listener questions in part 2 about not scoring from set-pieces, David Raya conceding goals from distance, whether a fourth away game was a factor in the performance, stylistic differences between Jurrien Timber and Ben White, and lots more.

Show notes
In this episode I'm joined by Ryan Hunn from Stadio to chat about Arsenal's 4-2 win over Ipswich in the Carabao Cup. We start with Max Dowman's two goal contribution, but before we get into the nuts and bolts of his performance, there's discussion of how Arsenal have to manage a 16 year old such talent and potential, then there's the good stuff, in particular his first goal. There was also another very impressive teenage performance in the shape of Marli Salmon, and we talk about the context of that display at the heart of the defence with lots of moving pieces around him. After that, we focus on some of the senior players which is a bit more of a mixed bag, with focus on Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, and more besides.
