Karis in Paris?! 🇫🇷 Can you believe it?!

It’s been 4 weeks since we’ve had a proper catch up, and WOW!!! There’s a lot to talk about!

From taking Beyond the Tweezers to Opal Lash Conference to now preparing to take the podcast internationally to PARIS, things have been a little crazy!

In this episode, I’m sharing how one spontaneous Instagram message turned into an incredible opportunity, the behind-the-scenes chaos of making it happen, and why I truly believe that if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

What does it really take to build a beauty business AND organise an industry conference?

This week on Beyond the Tweezers, I’m joined by Elisha, salon owner and one of the women behind the Opal Conference, to talk about her journey, the story behind Opal and the realities of running a growing business.

From moving out at just 16 to building her own salon and training academy, Elisha shares how she found her feet in the beauty industry and how a lockdown lash competition eventually grew into the Opal Conference.

We talk about the highs, the challenges and everything that happens behind the scenes when you’re organising an event of this scale.

And we don’t shy away from the bigger conversations either!

Are beauty conferences dying? Has the industry lost trust in events? And what can organisers do to create experiences that people genuinely want to be part of?

We also dive into imposter syndrome, burnout, business pressures, investing in yourself and finding the confidence to take opportunities before you feel ready.

Two lash besties, one lash conference and a slightly questionable hangover! 😂🥂

This week I’m joined by Kirstie for a very chilled, very honest debrief of Opal Lash Conference, recorded the morning after the night before… from our hotel bed! ☕️

We’re talking about everything from my podcast stand nearly falling apart (I honestly thought I was doomed), the incredible speakers, winning two awards and the chaos of the awards night.

But we also get into some bigger conversations about the lash industry.

Kirstie shares her experience of using UV lashes for five years, why she made the switch, the misconceptions surrounding UV systems and why good technique will always matter more than the glue you’re using.

We also chat about the struggles facing new lash artists, the quality of education in our industry, running a business without being taught how, and why getting yourself into rooms full of inspiring people can make such a difference.

It’s funny, honest, a little bit chaotic and full of conversations we think the industry needs to be having.

So grab a cuppa and join us for a proper catch up! 💗

And we’d love to hear from you. Do you attend industry conferences? If not, what’s holding you back?

    Episode 40

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

Beyond the Tweezers goes LIVE at Opal 2026! 🎤💗

This week, I’m taking you behind the scenes of one of the UKs biggest lash conferences, chatting with lash artists, educators, business owners and industry professionals about the things we don’t always talk about.

And trust me, some of these conversations really got me thinking!

From whether the lash industry has stopped evolving, to the unrealistic expectations placed on new artists, undercharging, competition and the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone.

We talk about why building a successful beauty business today looks very different to how it did 20 years ago, whether the industry needs more innovation, and why so many talented artists are still afraid to charge what they’re worth.

This Episode is sponsored by Lash Oasis

Use Code: BEYOND15 for 15% off the Korean Hybrid Lash Lift Course: https://lashoasis.co.uk

After every conversation I left them with the same one question to answer.. “what change would you love to see in our industry?” And the answers were super honest and thought provoking.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Beyond the Tweezers without a little fun!

We’re spinning the wheel, answering spicy industry questions, sharing our biggest industry icks and getting some very honest opinions along the way.

But underneath all the laughs, there’s an important message.

If we want to see the industry grow, we have to be willing to grow with it.

Because, as Kirstie said during one of our conversations, they don’t call it growing pains for no reason.

Whether you’re just starting your beauty business or you’ve been in the industry for years, I think there’s something in this episode that will make you stop and think.

Grab a cuppa, get comfy and come along to Opal 2026 with me! 💗

  5. STOP SHRINKING YOURSELF TO FIT IN

    Episode 39

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

Have you ever created a post, gone to press send… and stopped because you suddenly started worrying about what everyone else might think?

In this episode of Beyond the Tweezers, I’m talking about why we need to stop shrinking ourselves to fit in - in our businesses, on social media and within the beauty industry.

I share how I used to hold myself back because I was scared of being judged, why I felt like I had to behave differently as I became an educator and judge, and the reel that sat in my drafts for weeks because I was too scared to post it.

This Episode is sponsored by Lash Oasis

Use Code: BEYOND15 for 15% off the Korean Hybrid Lash Lift Course: https://lashoasis.co.uk

We also talk about finding your own voice instead of echoing what everyone else is saying, sharing your experiences even when they’re different, and treating your content as an experiment rather than obsessing over likes, views and what people might think.

Because the posts you’re most nervous to share might be the ones people connect with the most.

Stop shrinking yourself. Stop trying to fit the mould. Your experience, your opinions and your voice matter. 🩷

  6. Going Viral, Social Media & WILD Client Dilemmas – with my bestie Ellie Anderson

    Episode 38

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

This week on Beyond the Tweezers, I’m joined by someone very special - my best friend of 26 years, Ellie Anderson.

Ellie works in the hair industry specialising in hair extensions and hair up, and this episode is basically one big, honest bestie catch up about what it’s REALLY like trying to build a business while navigating social media and everything else around it!

We talk about the pressure to constantly create content, comparing yourself to people online, finding your confidence on camera, AI generated content and what actually happens when one of your posts goes viral, because as Ellie puts it, 2 million views definitely doesn’t mean 2 million customers.

This Episode is sponsored by Lash Oasis

Use Code: BEYOND15 for 15% off your order: https://lashoasis.co.uk

We also get into the side of social media that isn’t spoken about enough… negative comments, putting your life online, protecting your privacy when working from home and knowing where to draw the line between sharing your business and sharing too much.

And then things get slightly chaotic when we play Would You Though? - our client dilemma game.

A client no shows you and then posts about her “self-care day”… are you liking the post?

A client tells you she’s sleeping with another client’s husband… are you saying something?

Someone threatens you with a bad review unless you refund them… what are you doing?

This one is fun, unfiltered and full of the conversations we normally have behind closed doors, with plenty of laughs along the way.

If you enjoy this more relaxed, easy style episode, let me know because Ellie might just have to come back on Beyond the Tweezers for a regular debrief! 👀

This episode is for you 💗

I’m sharing the practical things I would be doing to get my business seen and start bringing more clients through the door - from social media and content days to leaflets, business cards, local collaborations, Google reviews and the good old fashioned way of putting yourself out there.

  8. The Truth About Lash Product Safety: What Every Lash Artist Needs to Know | Frankie Widdows

    Episode 36

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

As lash artists, we work around our products every single day… but how much do we actually know about what we’re using?

In this episode of Beyond the Tweezers, I’m joined by Frankie Widdows — an OG of the lash industry who has spent the last 10 years passionately educating lash artists about product safety.

This Episode is sponsored by Lash Oasis

Use Code: BEYOND10 for 10% off your order: https://lashoasis.co.uk

After becoming seriously unwell while working as a lash artist herself, Frankie became determined to understand why. What followed was years of research into lash adhesives, ingredients, exposure and the products we use every single day - ultimately shaping the mission behind her brand, Eyelash Excellence.

We talk about the early symptoms Frankie experienced, why lash artists need to think about their own health as much as their clients’, cosmetic grade lash products, what questions we should be asking the brands we buy from, and why product safety is a conversation the industry needs to be having more openly.

Frankie also shares her incredible journey from spending 10 years in the police - including working with police dogs, to building a career in lashes, creating her own products and becoming one of the industry's most passionate voices for safer working practices.

This isn't about creating fear around the products we use. It's about education, asking questions and understanding what we're working with when we're exposed to these products day after day.

If you're a lash artist, educator or someone working with lash products regularly, this is an episode I really think you need to hear.

I don’t want to work this hard forever… and that’s exactly why I’m willing to put the work hard in now.

We hear so much about slowing down, protecting our energy and creating more freedom - and I completely agree, I am one of them people. Looking after yourself matters. Rest matters. Having a life outside of your business matters.

But there are also seasons where you have to graft.

There have been so many times when I’ve been tired, when I could have sat watching Netflix for another two hours, or when I simply couldn’t be bothered. But I know the life and career I want in the future, and nobody else is going to build that for me.

I don’t want to still be working on the tools at 50 because I HAVE to. I want choices. I want freedom. And I know that what I do now is helping me create that later.

You can work hard now and make things easier for your future self, or you can choose easy now and potentially make things harder later.

This episode is your reminder that no one is coming to save you. Your goals are yours - and sometimes, you have to be willing to get up and go after them even when you don’t feel like it.

Because the life you keep imagining? You have to be the one to build it.

  10. Why The Client Experience & Vibe You Create Matters More Than You Think | Minola Tuite

    Episode 34

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

How do you create a beauty business that clients don’t just visit once… but keep coming back to for years?

This week I’m joined by Minola Tuite, whose journey started working from her mum’s lounge and conservatory. In the early days, she even volunteered in a salon for free to gain experience and learn what it was really like to work in a salon environment, before eventually opening a salon of her own.

We talk about the reality of opening a salon for the first time - the struggles, the challenges and everything Minola learned along the way, as well as how she’s gone on to create a thriving salon and a client experience that has kept some of her clients with her for around 10 years.

Minola shares how much thought goes into the details we can sometimes overlook: your salon interior, branding, atmosphere, client experience and even the different senses your clients pick up on from the moment they walk through the door.

We also talk about her idea of creating a “third space” for her clients, somewhere they can escape, switch off and instantly feel relaxed and why the experience and vibe you create can be just as important as the treatment itself.

But building a thriving business also came with a point where Minola realised she was doing too much. She shares the period where she was cramming clients into her diary and her now husband asked her, “Do I have to book an appointment to see you?” and how that changed the way she structures her business today.

We also get into bridal lashes and how Minola naturally became a go to lash artist for brides, how she creates a bridal experience beyond just the lashes, and we finish with a little Bridal Lashes: This or That.

If you want to fill your diary, build a loyal client base and create an experience that makes your clients genuinely excited to come back, this episode is for you. 💗

I share how getting a business mentor, understanding my numbers and changing my prices completely changed the way I looked at my business, as well as what I learnt from trying to expand my business last year and why something not working out doesn’t always mean you’ve failed.

We also talk about goals, money, knowing your worth and why the version of success you’re chasing now might not actually be the version you want when you get there.

And at the end, I’m giving you some questions to think about in your own business, because maybe being fully booked isn’t actually the goal. Maybe the goal is building a business that works for the life you want.

  12. Are You Winging Your Business Finances? With Gemma The Beauty Boss Accountant

    Episode 32

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

If the money side of your beauty business has ever made you feel like you're just winging it… this episode is for you.

This week I'm joined by Gemma, The Beauty Boss Accountant, who has built a career helping people in our industry understand their numbers without making accountancy feel scary, overwhelming or ridiculously complicated.

We start with Gemma's story - from growing up on a council estate and being underestimated at school, to losing her dad while sitting her accountancy exams and using that experience as motivation to make something of her life.

Then we get into the stuff I know SO many beauty business owners have questions about.

We talk about managing your money, business bank accounts, increasing your prices, what you can and can't claim as an expense, Making Tax Digital, accountants, sole trader vs limited company and when it might actually be time to make that change.

Gemma also busts some common accounting myths and we put her to the test with a game of “Can I claim it or not?” 😆

What I love about Gemma is how simple she makes everything feel. There's no confusing accountant language and no judgement, just genuinely useful advice that actually makes sense for people running businesses in the beauty industry.

Because whether you've been in business for ten years or you're only just starting out, understanding your numbers is something we ALL need to get better at.

And as Gemma reminds us in this episode… we only get one life. Sometimes you've just got to put yourself out there and go for it!

Why did I actually start Beyond the Tweezers?

It wasn't because I wanted another thing to add to my workload and it definitely wasn't because I knew what I was doing.

In this solo episode, I'm taking you right back to where the idea began. From discovering a podcast during a really low point that completely shifted my mindset, to writing three simple words in my journal ‘start a podcast’ and eventually deciding to actually make it happen.

I'm also sharing the reality behind starting Beyond the Tweezers - teaching myself the tech, wondering whether anyone would listen, nearly convincing myself I couldn't do it, and why I wanted to create something I wish I'd had when I first became self employed.

Because building a business can feel incredibly lonely. Social media shows us the wins, but it rarely shows us the mistakes, the self doubt, the difficult clients, the sleepless nights or the moments where we wonder whether we're actually good enough.

Beyond the Tweezers was created to have those conversations.

Seven months in, this podcast has already changed me in ways I didn't expect and I genuinely feel like we're only just getting started.

Whether you've been here since episode one or you've only just found the podcast, thank you for being part of it. 💗

In this episode we talk about:

    • The podcast that completely changed my mindset
    • Why I wanted to create what I wish existed when I started in beauty

  14. The Woman Behind Lustre Lash | From Bouncer to Beauty Brand Founder, Nina Attfield

    Episode 30

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

Today's episode is one of the most emotional and inspiring conversations we've ever had on Beyond the Tweezers.

Nina shares the story behind the woman she is today - a journey shaped by unimaginable trauma, resilience, and the determination to create a life that was hers.

As a child, Nina dreamed of becoming a barrister so she could "put bad people away" after witnessing her mum being fatally attacked. She opens up about how that experience affected her growing up, the challenges she faced in later life, and how domestic abuse and mental health struggles could have easily defined her story...but didn't.

Instead, she chose to keep moving forward.

From working as a nightclub bouncer while building her beauty career, to owning a salon, launching successful brands and organising one of the beauty industry's lash & business events, Nina's journey is anything but ordinary.

We talk about the reality of building businesses whilst carrying personal trauma, owning a salon, managing difficult staff, dealing with theft within the business, and the lessons that completely changed the way she now approaches business.

Nina also shares the incredible story behind Lustre Lash - a brand born from helping a client going through cancer treatment who simply wanted to feel like herself again. From creating magnetic strip lashes to later developing products for men experiencing hair loss, her passion for finding solutions shines throughout this conversation.

We also dive into buying Lashphoria, running Lash Connect, creating industry events, building brands, the realities of white labelling, the financial challenges behind launching products, and why personal branding is often the most overlooked part of building a successful business.

This episode is heartbreaking, inspiring and incredibly honest. It's a reminder that our past may shape us, but it doesn't have to define where we're going.

If this episode resonates with you, I'd love it if you could leave a rating or share it with someone who needs to hear Nina's story.

⚠️ Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of childhood trauma, domestic abuse, suicide, and mental health which some listeners may find distressing. Please listen/watch with care.

  15. Can I Still Chase My Dreams and Have Children?

    Episode 29

    Show notes

I think as business women, we're all a little bit guilty of constantly chasing the next thing.

We're ambitious. We move the goal posts, we hit one goal and before we've even celebrated it, we're already asking ourselves, "What's next?"

Sometimes I wonder if we become so focused on building our businesses that we forget to stop and think about what we actually want our future to look like.

As I'm getting closer to 30, I've found myself doing exactly that.

Jack and I have been having more conversations about children, and if I'm honest, I've realised I've been carrying around a lot of fear. Fear of losing my identity. Fear of losing momentum in my business. Fear of stepping away from everything I've worked so hard to build.

In this episode, I'm opening up about those thoughts. I share why I've always struggled with change, the story of bringing home Tux and why I couldn't imagine having children at 25, the advice people have given me over the years, and why one conversation with a previous podcast guest completely changed my perspective.

I also talk about something that isn't spoken about enough... not knowing what your fertility journey might look like. We can spend so much time waiting for the "right" chapter, when the reality is, none of us know what the future holds.

I feel like you blink and another year has gone by. The older we get, the more these conversations naturally come up, and as women that can sometimes feel like pressure. Pressure to make a decision. Pressure to know what you want. Pressure because time can feel like it's moving faster than you'd like.

But I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.

If you don't want children, that's completely okay.

If you do want children, that's okay too.

The most important thing is creating a life that feels right for you, not the life other people expect you to have.

One thing I realised whilst recording this episode is that maybe I've been looking at it all wrong.

Maybe I haven't been building my business instead of having children.

Maybe I've been building it for that chapter.

As beauty professionals, we've built careers around flexibility, freedom and a skill that nobody can ever take away from us. Our businesses can evolve with us, and maybe that's something we should be really proud of.

Whether you have children, don't want children, are still deciding, or you're simply having these conversations yourself, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to have all the answers today.

Maybe this is just your reminder to pause for a moment and ask yourself what you really want from the next chapter of your life.

In this episode, I'm sharing how entering my very first lash competition completely changed the direction of my career. Growing up and running my business from a tiny village in Essex, I genuinely believed nobody would ever know who I was. Competitions gave me the confidence, feedback and opportunities that helped me build a reputation, become fully booked and eventually create the career I have today.

In this episode we talk about:

✨ Why visibility matters more than awards
✨ The feedback that transformed my lash work forever
✨ How competitions helped me build my reputation
✨ Why you have to get comfortable with losing
✨ How to choose competitions that are actually worth entering
✨ Why I'm stepping back into the competition arena this year

If you've ever wondered whether competitions are worth entering, or you've been waiting for the confidence to put yourself out there, I hope this episode gives you the push you need.

  18. The People Who Win In Business Think Differently | Olivia Chinnock

    Episode 26

    Show notes

    Send us a message ✨

This week on Beyond The Tweezers, I’m joined by brow artist, educator and semi-permanent makeup artist Olivia Chinnock, who has recently opened her very own salon in Chelmsford after years of building a fully booked business and a recognisable personal brand.

What really stood out to me in this conversation was Olivia’s mindset. She genuinely believes that the people who succeed in business think differently, and that confidence comes from showing up, backing yourself and believing that good things are possible.

We talk about her journey from working on the Benefit counter in John Lewis, getting fired from her job, and how that ended up being the best thing that could have happened to her. We also dive into manifestation, mindset, becoming your own biggest cheerleader and why showing up consistently online has played such a huge role in building her business.

Olivia shares how she created a brand that people instantly recognise, the importance of personal branding within the beauty industry, and why so many artists are holding themselves back by not putting themselves out there.

We also discuss opening her brand-new salon in Chelmsford, building a one-stop beauty destination, and the reality of losing £400 to a scam on her very first day.

If you've ever struggled with confidence, doubted yourself, or wondered how some people seem to keep achieving bigger and bigger things, this episode is for you.

  19. Stylist to Educator: The Mindset Shift

    Show notes

Becoming an educator sounds exciting - creating courses, teaching students and sharing your knowledge with others. But what nobody really talks about is the transition itself.

In this episode, I share my personal journey from stylist to educator, from attracting clients to teaching students, and the mindset shifts I had to make along the way.

    I open up about:

✨ Feeling like a beginner all over again
✨ The imposter syndrome I experienced as a new educator
✨ Why teaching felt more stressful than working with clients
✨ Changing my content from attracting clients to attracting students
✨ Finding my ideal student and building trust

✨ Why perfection doesn't exist in education
✨ The lessons my students have taught me over the years

We talk about moving from Romania to the UK, building a business from scratch, opening salons, speaking on international stages and becoming a recognised educator. But we also talk about the side people don't always see.

    The pressure to look successful.
    The need for validation.
Building things from a place of ego.
And realising that what you thought would make you happy isn't always what fulfils you.

This conversation goes far beyond lashes. We dive into authenticity, personal branding, social media, recognition, business mistakes, therapy, confidence and the importance of building a business that actually supports the life you want to live.
