    Season 1, Episode 5

    Show notes

Is that God speaking, or is it just your own thoughts? How do you actually hear God's voice, and how can you learn to recognize when He's speaking?

In Episode 5 of Bible Club with David & Mikayla, hosts David Blease and Mikayla Blease explore one of the most important questions in the Christian life: How do I know when God is speaking to me?

Does God speak through Scripture? Dreams? An audible voice? A sense of peace? Other people? And how can we distinguish God's voice from our own thoughts, feelings, or desires?

Together, David and Mikayla unpack how God speaks throughout Scripture, how to grow in spiritual discernment, and practical ways to become more familiar with His voice.

From learning to recognize God's leading to understanding the importance of Scripture, prayer, and confirmation, this conversation will help you grow in confidence as you seek to hear God more clearly.

  2. Why You Keep Falling Into the Same Sin (And How to Break Free) Bible Club Ep 4

    Season 1, Episode 4

    Show notes

Why do we keep falling into the same sin, even when we desperately want to stop? And is it possible to experience real, lasting freedom?

Welcome to Bible Club with David & Mikayla, a Bible Club Co. Original.

In this deeply personal episode, David Blease opens up about his past struggles with addiction, sexual sin, and the moment God completely changed his understanding of freedom.

After fighting the same battle for years, even making it 364 days without giving in before falling again, David discovered something that transformed his life: Freedom wasn’t found in trying harder to NOT sin, but in drawing closer to Jesus, who IS freedom.

David and Mikayla share their journey of walking through these struggles together, what it looked like to experience God’s freedom, and the practical disciplines that have helped them continue walking in that freedom for years.

In this episode, we talk about:

    * Why willpower and accountability alone can’t set you free

    * The difference between conviction and condemnation

    * Breaking cycles of addiction, p**nography, and sexual sin

    * The importance of confession, honesty, and bringing hidden struggles into the light

    * How to support someone you love who is battling addiction

    * Why daily prayer, worship, Scripture, and self-examination matter

    * How to recognize temptation before it becomes a pattern

    * Why intimacy with Jesus is the foundation of lasting freedom

Accountability matters. Discipline matters. But neither is the source of our freedom. Jesus is.

Whether you’re struggling with the same sin over and over, walking alongside someone who is, or simply longing for a deeper relationship with God, our prayer is that this conversation encourages you to pursue the freedom Christ offers.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17

At Bible Club Co., we desire for every person and family to know the God of the Bible intimately. Together, we seek His presence, study His Word, and stir one another up to know Him more.

  4. Why Christians Misread the Bible | Translations, Context & the Old Testament | Bible Club with David & Mikayla Ep. 2

    Season 1, Episode 2

    Show notes

Which Bible translation is best? KJV, NIV, ESV, NLT, NKJV... and are we sometimes reading the Bible wrong?

Welcome to Episode 2 of Bible Club with David & Mikayla, a Bible Club Co. original.

In this episode, David Blease and Mikayla Blease have an honest conversation about Bible translations, biblical context, the Old Testament, and why understanding the world in which Scripture was written can completely change the way you read the Bible.

We unpack the difference between word for word and thought for thought translations, why there is no perfect English Bible translation, and what to do when you come across weird or confusing passages in Scripture.

But translation is only part of the conversation.

Every one of us brings a lens to the Bible. We are modern, Western readers approaching an ancient, Eastern text. Understanding the Jewish, historical, and cultural context of Scripture can help us see things the original audience would have immediately understood.

David and Mikayla also explore why Christians still need the Old Testament, what Romans teaches about law and grace, the relationship between Jewish and Gentile believers, and why the Old and New Testaments aren't competing stories about two different versions of God.

They are one story of one God unfolding His plan of redemption from Genesis to Revelation.

Ultimately, Bible study isn't simply about knowing more about the Bible. It's about knowing the God of the Bible.

Scripture reveals His character. Prayer draws us into relationship with Him. Worship engages our hearts. Together, they help us grow in intimacy with God and become more like Jesus.

Grab your Bible. Grab your coffee. Welcome to Bible Club.

  5. I Was a Pharisee... Then God Humbled Me | Bible Club with David & Mikayla Ep. 1

    Season 1, Episode 1

    Show notes

What’s the difference between knowing about God and actually knowing Him?

In the very first episode of "Bible Club with David & Mikayla", we’re starting at the beginning with our story, our relationship, and the journey that changed the way we understand what it means to truly know God.

We met in middle school, dated throughout high school, and have now been married for more than 10 years. Along the way, faith and the Bible have been a major part of our lives. But for David, there came a moment when God revealed something difficult: he knew a lot about God, but he wasn’t sure he truly knew Him.

David had grown up in church, studied Scripture, and knew how to be a “good Christian.” Then God began exposing the Pharisee in him. The self righteousness, judgment of others, and focus on outward morality had become a substitute for genuine intimacy with God.

    That conviction changed everything.

In this episode, we talk about the difference between knowing about God and knowing God intimately, how our relationship with Scripture changed, and why we believe the Bible is not simply a book to master. It is an invitation to know the God who wrote it.

David also shares some of his background studying Scripture, including a bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies and a master’s degree in Practical Theology and Messianic Judaism. But one of the greatest lessons he has learned is that biblical knowledge should never become a substitute for actually knowing God.

If you want to grow closer to God, understand the Bible more deeply, and develop a genuine relationship with Jesus, welcome to the club.
