Back-to-back defeats in the Premier League has halted the momentum of the season somewhat, so is this where we begin to see what both the team and Enzo Maresca are made of? David Mooney is joined by City fans Dan Burke and Matt Holland to discuss the loss to Brighton on Saturday.

It’s a return to Champions League action on Wednesday, too, so we hear from journalist Guido Schafer, who covers RB Leipzig. What can City expect from their trip to Germany and how important is it to get the good vibes back after the last week?

Plus, with Aston Villa laying out their intentions to take legal action on comments made about their club, we discuss whether City should be doing more (or should have done more in the past) when it comes to how the club have been talked about.

It took a penalty shootout, but Manchester City squeaked past Brighton in the fourth round of the League Cup in the first of this week’s double-header. David Mooney is joined by City fan Sam Rosbottom and, from The City Ramble podcast, Joe Olivier to discuss the match.

They also look ahead to Saturday’s Premier League match with the seagulls and look at what elements might be different in the top flight compared to what happened on Wednesday night.

We discover all the previous times City have played a team in consecutive matches throughout the Premier League era, plus we discuss City best penalty shootout performances, the most embarrassing cup exits, and the greatest flukes the team has scored.

  3. Give Us Your Chips!

    Show notes

After City's first Premier League defeat of the season, David Mooney is joined by City fan Bob Toole and, from Sporting News, Dom Farrell to look at what went wrong at Villa Park. Two individual errors cost the team for Villa's goals, but with the way more games have been open this season, was this result always possible?

With a double-header against Brighton on the horizon, starting with Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie, we hear from Ryan Adsett from Talk Seagulls to find out more about their start to the season. What will be different about the League Cup fixture compared to the game in the Premier League next weekend?

Plus, with Donnarumma's goalkeeping error, we take an early Halloween visit to the worst mistakes by keepers that we can remember.

    Show notes

Following the comprehensive 5-1 win over AEK Athens, David Mooney is joined by Simon Bajkowski from the Manchester Evening News and City fan Ciaran Murray. They discuss the rotated team’s performance, the cheekiness of Rayan Cherki, and the quality on show from Phil Foden.

With a potentially tricky test up next at Villa Park, we hear from Frankie Maguire from All Villa No Filler as we preview Saturday’s game.

Plus, what impact has the guilty verdict (and everything that’s come with it) had on you as you try to process what’s been happening this last few weeks?

  5. The Fruit Flies of Doom

    Show notes

After the 3-2 win over Ipswich, Enzo Maresca became the first new manager of a club to win their opening seven Premier League games. David Mooney is joined by City fans Ally Fogg and Chris Higginbottom to discuss the performance on Saturday, plus to look at how well the Maresca is doing given everything that's happening at the club right now.

They look ahead to the visit of AEK Athens on Tuesday, with a particular focus on who might play in midfield given the performances of Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez and Ayyoub Bouaddi in recent weeks. Plus, they discuss Phil Foden's role now he's available again and after he scored the opener at the weekend.

Also, why have players switched back to long-sleeved shirts?

  6. Being Tony Soprano, Dexter and Walter White

    Show notes

David Mooney is joined by City fans Richard Burns and Sam Rosbottom to discuss everything that happened in the very exciting (but ultimately fruitless) Champions League tie with Paris Saint Germain. What went wrong for City to be 3-0 down in around half an hour, but what changed to produce a spirited second-half fightback that probably didn't get the rewards it deserved?

Martin from Talking Town joins the show to discuss Ipswich's start to the season, ahead of the visit to the Etihad on Saturday. What can City expect and how will Enzo Maresca approach the game?

    Show notes

After a few weeks of off-the-field pressure following the guilty verdict in the Premier League charges, Manchester City returned to action with a 3-0 win at Anfield. David Mooney is joined by Paul Hirst from The Times and City fan Luke Stanley from the MCFC Lads podcast and socials to discuss the performance and the circumstances around the game at Liverpool.

With PSG visiting the Etihad on Wednesday, they also look ahead to that match. Marc Damon from PSG Talk explains how the reigning two-time Champions League winners have started this season as well.

Plus, we take a look at how Enzo Maresca is settling into the job at City, given the challenge of guiding the club through this tricky time while also replacing Pep Guardiola.

We're getting closer to the return of domestic football, but there's still another week to go before a ball is kicked. We've now learned that Manchester City have appealed the independent commission's verdict on the Premier League charges, David Mooney is joined by City fans Mike Hammond and James Faulkner to discuss how they're feeling.

For a bit of a break from the non-stop charges-chat, we've finally delivered on our threat to play out our interview with the former City forward Rodney Marsh. He's discussing how he feels his arrival at Maine Road cost City the title that year, why he got on so well with former City full back Willie Donachie, and the situation that led to his departure.

    Show notes

After a ding-dong (or helter-skelter, but NOT a topsy-turvy) game against Sunderland, David Mooney is joined by City fan KC and, from the City Ramble podcast Amos Murphy, to try and work out what happened in all of the chaos.

Why couldn't City control the game and why did it get so crazy at the Etihad? What does it say about City's ability to keep going after Sunderland kept equalising? And, with five wins from five in the Premier League, seven wins from seven in total, how do we rate the performances with those perfect results?

We also hear from the former City goalkeeper Tommy Wright, who talks about joining the club during a period of turmoil in the late 1990s and about becoming back-up to Nicky Weaver as he broke into the team.

    Show notes

Straight after the 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Norwich, David Mooney is joined by City fan Chris Higginbottom at the Etihad to discuss everything that happened over the last week, including some controversial moments of the 1-0 win at Old Trafford. Phil Foden's red card (and Bruno Fernandes's role in it) are a major bone of contention, but we also look at the fallout from the VAR check on Erling Haaland's goal and a few key individual performances.

Simon Bajkowski from the Manchester Evening News joins us to look ahead to the upcoming match with Sunderland, plus we hear from Ant Waterson from Roker Report to find out more about their start to the season. Then the Daily Mail's Jack Gaughan subs in to discuss mentality changes and 'getting away with one'.

On top of that, we also take a look at all the times in the Premier League era when City have had a player sent off at 0-0 (or worse, when losing) and have still gone on to win the game.

Two more wins for Enzo Maresca's Manchester City mean they go into the Manchester Derby on Sunday with back-to-back clean sheets and sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table. Alongside the good results, what have the performances told us about this new-look version of the team?

David Mooney is joined by Simon Bajkowski from the Manchester Evening News and Dom Farrell from Sporting News to pick through the talking points from the wins over Coventry and Porto.

For the first time in a decade, City go into the Manchester Derby with a new manager in the dugout, so we take a look at the records of the previous bosses on their first time facing Manchester United. Plus, we look ahead to the Norwich game with Norwich fan Dan Greengrass.

  15. What was the Last Thing you Faxed?

    Show notes

It's been a busy week for Manchester City. It all started with a comprehensive 4-1 win at Crystal Palace, with impressive performances from a number of players. David Mooney is joined by City fans Bob Toole and Gaz to discuss what happened at Selhurst Park, with a keen eye on Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

Ahead of that game, it was felt that the squad was far from finished. So with late moves in the transfer window for Iliman Ndiaye, Allan and Enzo Fernandez (on top of the previous business this summer), how is it all feeling now? We take a look at one of City's busiest transfer windows.

Alex Howell and Katie Wrench from the Citizens Trust speak to the show about what the new supporters' union has achieved in its first few months, while author and Porto fan Miguel Lourenço Pereira explains what City can expect in their first Champions League game. We also look ahead to what side Enzo Maresca may pick for this weekend's match with Coventry.

Oh... and what were the best and worst transfer deadline days from years gone by?

  16. The Oracle of the Universe

    Show notes

After the last-gasp win over Bournemouth, David Mooney is joined by City fan Richard Burns and, from Sky Sports, Ben Ransom to discuss everything that happened in Enzo Maresca's first Premier League game in charge. Marc Guehi was a surprise inclusion in the midfield, while the VAR overturn in stoppage time was a welcome surprise given City's history was the video referee in the closing stages of matches.

The turnaround on Sunday was the latest City have been losing a Premier League match that they've gone on to win since the famous QPR game in 2012, so Bethan Holmes takes a look at all the other times since then that the team has been behind in the final 10 minutes only to go on and win.

With Crystal Palace coming up on Friday night, we hear from Eagles fan Robbie Scotcher all about their start to the season and how their preparations have gone throughout the summer. Plus, will City have any more new faces through the door by the time the game arrives (or at least before the transfer deadline passes next week)?

On top of all of that, we're talking about a Haaland haircut, life inside a black hole, and City's best one-season wonders.

  17. The Willies Aren't Not Up Me

    Show notes

After a humbling afternoon in Cardiff, David Mooney is joined by City fan Dan Burke and, from Sporting News, Dom Farrell to pick over the defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield. It wasn't really the scoreline that put the frighteners on anyone, more the manner of the loss... so what does that mean for City in the early stages of the Enzo Maresca era?

As Rodri leaves for Barcelona and as it looks like there may be further midfield departures, we take a look at the shape the squad is in ahead of the match with Bournemouth. What can we expect from the opening Premier League game of the season?

It was also reported this week that Rodri had refused to play for City if they didn't sanction a sale this summer... Except he didn't say that. We're taking a look at why fake news appears to be at an all time high this year. Plus, we also speak to the author and City fan Alex Timperley, whose new book 'For The Love: How Football Supporters Can Change the World' is out now.

The Blue Moon Podcast is back for YET another season... On today's show, David Mooney is joined by City fan Ciaran Murray and by the Daily Mail's Jack Gaughan to look back over the pre-season tour of Asia for Manchester City and to discuss what's new about the Enzo Maresca era at the club.

The Athletic's Sam Lee has been speaking to the players on the tour, so he's here to look at what they've said about what's different tactically. Plus, we speak to Tifo's Jon Mackenzie, whose new book "The Spectre of Pep: How Guardiola Haunts Modern Football Tactics", looks at how much City's former manager has influenced how we all see the game.

We take a look ahead to the Community Shield tie with Arsenal on Sunday, plus (and we make no apologies for this) we're starting off as weirdly as we mean to go on by taking a look at all the times that City have played on the same day as a partial or total solar eclipse.

With the sad news that the former City manager Kevin Keegan has died at the age of 75, David Mooney is joined by City fans Liam Wright and Andy MacNab to discuss his legacy at the club. After taking over in 2001, he led City to promotion from the second tier in style, setting a club record points total and equalling the record for the number of goals City had scored in a single season.

In the final season at Maine Road and City's first back in the Premier League, he led the club to a ninth-placed finish and brought European football back to the blue half of Manchester, via the UEFA Fair Play league, as he oversaw the move to what's now the Etihad Stadium.
