  2. "You've Been Singing It Wrong Your Whole Life"

    Season 2, Episode 59

    Show notes

You know those classic rock songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s that everybody loves? The ones we sing in the car, belt out in the shower, and somehow manage to get completely wrong?

Well, the Buds are taking a hilarious trip down memory lane to revisit some of the most famous misheard lyrics in rock and roll history!

From “Blinded by the Light” to “Muskrat Love,” we’ve all had those moments when we confidently sang the wrong words for years — only to discover that the actual lyrics were something completely different!

Kenn and Ron take turns sharing classic rock songs that they, their friends, and probably millions of other people have been singing incorrectly for decades.

Here are just a few of the lyrical mix-ups they explore:

    "Evil Woman”
What we hear: “He’s a woman”
What they actually sing: “Evil Woman”

    “Blinded by the Light”
What we hear: “Wrapped up like a douche”
What they actually sing: “Revved up like a deuce”

    “The Weight”
What we hear: “Take a load of granny”
What they actually sing: “Take a load of Fanny”

    “Muskrat Love”
What we hear: “Must grab Sally”
What they actually sing: “Muskrat Sally”

    And that’s just the beginning!

Kenn and Ron dig into these and plenty of other songs where the lyrics were so misunderstood, you have to wonder how we ever got through an entire song without realizing we were singing nonsense.

Whether you called them misheard lyrics, mondegreens, or just plain old-fashioned singing mistakes, these musical mix-ups are guaranteed to bring back memories and plenty of laughs.

Another fun, nostalgic walk down memory lane — Boomers on the Edge style!

Because sometimes the best part of a classic rock song is the part you got completely wrong!

Turn up the volume, sing along, and enjoy another hilarious trip through the music of our youth with Kenn and Ron on Boomers on the Edge.

    Season 2, Episode 58

    Show notes

What happens when people decide your property is their property? Kenn and Ron have a few stories to tell!

The Buds share some outrageous tales of people trespassing on their property, starting with a group of old-country women who apparently believe picking grape leaves without permission is perfectly acceptable.

But that’s just the beginning. Kenn and Ron seem to attract all kinds of characters to their home turf.

Then Ron takes things to a whole new level with the ultimate property-invasion story. Imagine coming home after a long, hard day at work, only to discover a full-blown carnival happening on your front lawn!

We’re talking a barbecue grill, chaise lounge, screened-in tent, and a whole crew of people enjoying themselves like they own the place.

Needless to say, Ron was not amused. And when unexpected guests decide to throw a party on your property, sparks are bound to fly!

  4. Homeowners Association Craziness

    Season 2, Episode 57

    Show notes

HOAs — they’re supposed to keep neighborhoods looking great, protect property values, and make everyone good neighbors. But sometimes, the rules, the neighbors, and a little too much free time create the perfect recipe for craziness!

And as you might expect, the Buds have a few HOA stories that prove you can’t make this stuff up.

Kenn kicks things off with a winter hockey story that goes from wholesome family fun to a full-blown neighborhood emergency. When he hosts his son’s hockey team for practice on a neighborhood pond, he builds a small fire using a wax log in a mini grill enclosure to keep the boys warm.

    Sounds harmless, right?

Not to one of the HOA’s self-appointed neighborhood spies! Before long, the real police and fire department are called to investigate the pizza-sized “fire.” Kenn is not a happy guy, and this story proves that sometimes the biggest neighborhood threat isn’t the weather — it’s the neighbors!

Ron takes the other side of the HOA debate, explaining why these organizations can actually serve a purpose. He tells the story of his friend Eugene, who moves into an exclusive community and decides his lawn would look better with one-foot-tall dandelions!

To help Eugene understand the importance of being a good neighbor, Ron shares a news story about a homeowner who took backyard decorations to a whole new level with an obscene, eight-foot pink statue.

    Yes, you read that right!

From neighborhood spies and miniature “fires” to out-of-control lawns and outrageous backyard statues, this episode has everything you love about Boomers on the Edge.

You have to hear it to believe it!

When lightning strikes your house, things can get a little… possessed!

One stormy night, Ron’s home became the scene of a full-blown paranormal event—or at least that’s how it seemed after lightning struck the house.

Ron has a knack for attracting lightning, and once again, he’s here to tell the tale of one crazy evening when his house appeared to have a mind of its own.

What followed was a never-ending parade of eerie sights and unexplained sounds:

    · A microwave oven flashing a spark that looked suspiciously like a hand reaching out from the other side!

    · A garage door that seemed to have a mind of its own!

    · An answering machine that suddenly started speaking in foreign tongues!

Was Ron’s house possessed, or was it just a very bad night for electrical equipment?

In the spirit of Halloween, join the Buds for another hilarious and spooky personal story from Boomers on the Edge—where sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, and a lightning strike can turn an ordinary night into a haunted house!

    Season 2, Episode 55

    Show notes

The Buds’ police stories continue in the second installment of Police Encounters—and once again, what should have been routine traffic stops turn into stories only the Boomers could tell!

Ron recalls getting caught speeding and making the questionable decision to pull into a daycare drop-off lane, hoping the police officer traveling in the opposite direction hadn’t noticed. Spoiler alert: he noticed—and he wasn’t amused.

Then Kenn shares an unbelievable story about sitting peacefully at a stoplight when a spider suddenly drops from his visor and lands on his nose. Startled, Kenn accidentally hits the gas instead of the brake, setting off a chain reaction that results in a multi-car accident.

But Kenn’s friendly, positive, and courteous conversation with the responding officer takes an unexpected turn. They discover they have several friends in common, and somehow Kenn manages to talk his way out of a ticket. The officer’s explanation? He couldn’t give a ticket to “practically a family member!”

Two more police encounters, two unbelievable stories, and plenty of Boomer-style humor.

  7. Boomers’ Funniest Home Audio

    Season 2, Episode 54

    Show notes

In the spirit of the 1980s classic America’s Funniest Home Videos, Boomers on the Edge presents Boomers’ Funniest Home Audio—a collection of hilarious stories about accidental mishaps, bad decisions, and the moments when things go spectacularly wrong.

Kenn kicks things off with a legendary high-school-era story about a local athlete known for his incredible strength and manliness. One day, he decides to show off his skills by splitting wood with a double-edged axe in the backyard. Everything seems fine—until the axe catches the clothesline, comes flying back, and finds its way directly to his forehead. Not exactly the outcome he had in mind!

Ron then shares three unforgettable stories about Eugene, a man whose adventures around vehicles seemed to produce one mishap after another:

    • The Battery Replacement – When Eugene’s SUV battery dies, he figures a boat battery might do the trick. What he forgets is that the battery’s terminals stick up too high. When he closes the hood, they make contact—and the result is an unexpected explosion!
    • The Boat Trailer – While towing a boat, Eugene makes a left turn and suddenly realizes the trailer has other plans. Instead of following the vehicle, it continues straight ahead!
    • Reverse Driving – When Eugene’s transmission gives out, he discovers the only way to get home is to drive in reverse—for miles, with traffic. What could possibly go wrong?

  8. New Homeowners - Repairs

    Season 2, Episode 53

    Show notes

When Kenn bought his first home in the 1980s, he quickly discovered that homeownership came with a lot more than a mortgage. Unfortunately, business school—and growing up—had done little to prepare him for the realities of home maintenance!

In this episode of Boomers on the Edge, Kenn shares three hilarious stories of learning the hard way:

    • The Auto Shut-Off Valve Faucet – Kenn’s wife asks him to fix a leaky bathroom faucet. Unable to find the shut-off valve under the sink, Kenn assumes these “new homes” must have an automatic shut-off system. He loosens the faucet—and suddenly, a geyser shoots toward the ceiling!
    • Phone Extensions and Electricity – Before cell phones, Kenn decides he needs a phone extension in his finished basement. While working on the phone line, he uses his teeth as a wire stripper, forgetting that phone lines carry a small electrical charge. The result? A shocking experience that sends Kenn screaming—and nearly flying across the room!
    • The Sump Pump and the Flood – After a major storm, water begins backing up in Kenn’s basement and the sump pump refuses to turn on. He grabs a small bucket and starts bailing water by hand. Then his neighbor asks the obvious question: “Did you check the fuse?” Sometimes the solution is a lot simpler than the problem!

Three unforgettable home-maintenance disasters, one very inexperienced homeowner, and plenty of laughs.

  10. Police Encounters 1

    Season 2, Episode 51

    Show notes

A lifetime as Boomers has resulted in more than a few encounters with the police. All minor traffic offenses, of course—but in true Boomers on the Edge fashion, the stories are anything but ordinary!

Ron kicks things off with a story from the 1980s involving a multi-million-dollar business proposal that had to be delivered across town. Back then, proposals weren’t emailed—they were printed, bound, and delivered the old-fashioned way. After delays from the pricing committee, Ron finds himself printing the proposal at the last minute and attempting to make a 60-minute drive in, well… 45 minutes!

The result? A run-in with the police followed by a hilarious court appearance that has become legendary.

Then Kenn shares two of his many police encounters. First, there’s the time he decides that at 2:00 AM, with practically nobody on the road, it might be perfectly reasonable to drive down the middle of a divided highway instead of, you know, his actual lane.

    What could possibly go wrong?

In his second story, Kenn gets pulled over and becomes so nervous that when the officer asks for his driver’s license, he accidentally hands him his credit card instead. His two teenage children sitting in the backseat? They erupt in laughter.

Just a few of the many unforgettable Boomers on the Edge Police Encounters!

And these stories are only the beginning. The police encounters continue in our next episode, Police Encounters 2!

  11. Pass or Fail? Boomers Didn’t Get an Easy On-Ramp

    Season 2, Episode 50

    Show notes

The University of Michigan recently announced a new pass/fail grading system for incoming freshmen, saying the goal is to help first-year students acclimate to the demands of college and let intrinsic motivation guide their academic journey.

That gets Kenn and Ron thinking: What happened to the way Boomers learned to deal with pressure?

Kenn remembers his parents paying him a dollar for every A in elementary school—but being concerned when he brought home a bad citizenship grade.

Ron looks back at being a college freshman in 1977, when 18 was still the legal drinking age and nobody was worried about creating an “easy on-ramp” to college life.

The Boomers didn’t get participation trophies, pass/fail grades, or much of a transition period. You showed up, figured it out, dealt with the pressure—and sometimes you succeeded and sometimes you failed.

So is today’s approach better for students, or are we simply raising a generation that is less prepared to deal with failure and pressure?

Another Boomers on the Edge comparison of how things were then… and how they are today.

  12. Back to School Shopping and Manliness

    Season 2, Episode 49

    Show notes

It’s old-school, back-to-school time on Boomers on the Edge as guest host Randy shares a hilarious childhood memory of 1970s fashion, family values, and a very different definition of manliness.

With a new school year approaching, Randy’s mom decides it’s time for a fashionable wardrobe update. She proudly picks out a matching pair of purple bell-bottom pants and a stylish wide-collar shirt—an outfit Randy isn't exactly thrilled to wear. Nevertheless, he survives the shopping trip and returns home with his new look in tow.

Back at the house, Randy finds his dad and great uncle changing the brakes on a car in the backyard. Eager to show off her son's fashionable new outfit, his mom suggests that Randy go change and model it for them. The reaction? Pure 1970s. Barely looking up from his work, Randy’s dad quips, “I didn’t see a sign that said girls allowed.” Randy’s mom is less than amused, while Randy quietly retreats to change into blue jeans and a T-shirt. When he returns, his dad smiles and says, “Hi Randy!”

The family certainly had its own unique view of 1970s manliness.

Randy follows up with another unforgettable story—this time about his grandfather attending one of Randy’s wrestling matches. So invested in his grandson's success, Grandpa climbed down from the stands during the match and began demonstrating how Randy could break his opponent’s arm. The referee promptly threw him out.

  13. Pillow Talk

    Season 2, Episode 48

    Show notes

Growing up in the 1970s meant figuring out life with limited information, plenty of imagination, and absolutely no internet to clear things up. In this episode, Kenn shares a coming‑of‑age misunderstanding so perfectly innocent it could only happen in that era.

At 13, Kenn was one of the bigger kids on
his little league team. One of the “coaches”—really just a 17‑year‑old who hung
around—liked to brag about his experiences with his girlfriend. One day, he
told Kenn he had “oral sex.” Kenn, unfamiliar with the term, interpreted it
literally: they just talked about it. To
him, it sounded respectful, mature, even admirable. He was so impressed by this
“good guy” behavior that he briefly considered telling his parents about it.

Inspired, Kenn began practicing what he
thought “oral sex” meant—speaking in a suave, romantic tone, the kind of
“pillow talk” he’d heard late‑night radio hosts use on their slow‑jam shows. He
wanted to be ready in case he ever needed those skills.

  14. Joe Louis Arena Tales!

    Season 2, Episode 47

    Show notes

Ron shares another unbelievable business story from the 1990s.

Back when Detroit Red Wings games at Joe Louis Arena were the hottest ticket in town, Ron invited several executives from one of Detroit’s Big Three automakers to a game in his company’s corporate suite. One executive and his wife were new to Detroit, and she was nervous about visiting downtown, so Ron personally promised to make sure they had a safe evening.

While Ron escorted the VP and his wife, team member Harry brought two executives known for their hard-partying ways. Before long, the pair started an argument with guests in the neighboring suite—rumored to be owned by the mafia. Ron quickly smoothed things over and switched hosting duties, asking Harry to take care of the VP and his wife.

When the game looked decided, the VP and his wife left early with Harry. An hour later, after the game ended, Ron headed to the parking garage and was stunned to find the VP and his wife still standing there—freezing cold and covered in icicles.

    "Where's Harry?" Ron asked.

They pointed across the garage just as Harry ran by in a panic, yelling, “I can’t find my car! I can’t find my car!”

As Harry raced by yet again, the two intoxicated executives suddenly yelled, "There's his car!"

Having arrived with Harry earlier, they recognized it immediately.

Without hesitation, they took off running, tackled Harry before he could make another lap around the garage and finally reunited him with the vehicle he had been searching for all night.

Needless to say, that was the last time the VP and his wife went to Joe Louis Arena!

    Season 2, Episode 46

    Show notes

    Men’s Grooming Today

Join Kenn and Ron as they take a humorous look at how men’s grooming has changed from the 1970s to today. Back in the day, most men kept their grooming routines simple—soap, shampoo, and maybe a comb. Today, the market is filled with specialized products for men’s hair, skin, beards, and more.

For years, Ron was known among the Buds as the one who paid the most attention to grooming, often becoming the target of good-natured jokes. As modern media and advertisers encourage men to embrace more extensive grooming routines, it turns out Ron may have been ahead of the curve all along.

Kenn explores the rise of men’s grooming products and how attitudes have shifted over the decades. What once seemed unusual for men is now a booming industry aimed directly at Boomer men and younger generations alike.

The Buds also reminisce about their hiking adventures through America’s National Parks, where Ron’s washcloth hanging in the shower often stood alone—a sight that became a running joke among the group. But as grooming habits continue to evolve, some of the crew may be rethinking their position.

Tune in for a fun and lighthearted discussion about changing trends, personal habits, and the sometimes-comical world of men’s grooming. It’s another entertaining Boomers on the Edge experience you won’t want to miss.

  16. Mr. Happy: The Last to Go

    Season 2, Episode 45

    Show notes

Kenn joins Ron and guest host Randy to share one of the funniest and most memorable stories from their family — the tale of their grandfather's determination to keep romance alive well into his senior years, even as dementia began to take its toll.

The first clue came at Grandma's funeral. As friends offered condolences and assured him that "she'll be waiting for you in heaven," Grandpa quickly replied, "I hope she can wait a little longer!" His family soon realized he wasn't planning on slowing down anytime soon.

At a holiday gathering, Grandpa proudly told Ron that he attended every dance at the Senior Center he could. Beaming with excitement, he shared that at a recent dance, one particular lady had put her leg between his. Apparently, Grandpa still had game.

As the years passed, dementia began affecting his memory and behavior. He often wandered off in search of his car dealer, convinced he had important business to attend to. Yet despite his declining mental faculties, his interest in the opposite sex never seemed to fade.

Eventually, Grandpa moved into a care facility, where his frequent escape attempts continued. Then came the moment that would become family legend. During a visit from his daughters, Grandpa unexpectedly demonstrated that his sense of manhood was still very much intact—leaving everyone shocked and speechless. A nurse calmly explained that this behavior is not uncommon among men living with dementia.

When Ron later told Kenn and Randy about the incident, he summed it up perfectly: "I'm proud to know that in my family Mr. Happy is the last to go!"

It's a hilarious, heartfelt, and true story that proves some instincts survive just about everything.

    Season 2, Episode 44

    Show notes

Soccer wasn't part of everyday life when Boomers Kenn and Ron were growing up, so when their own kids wanted to play, they approached the game with a mix of curiosity, skepticism, and humor. With the World Cup underway, they share some of their funniest family soccer memories.

Ron tells the story of his five-year-old son, who really wanted to play American football. Since he was too young for tackle football, Ron signed him up for soccer instead. At his very first practice, his son enthusiastically tackled a group of kids while trying to get the ball. Thinking now he might actually like soccer, he told his dad he had simply "tripped." The coach wasn't amused, and after one too many "accidental" trips, Ron warned his son that one more "trip" and he was done. His soccer career ended after a single practice.

Kenn shares the tale of his daughter, who never really enjoyed soccer but stuck with it for years. When she finally scored her first goal—thanks to a lucky bounce off her body—she proudly announced that she had accomplished her goal and was ready to quit. Kenn couldn't help but wonder if that moment might have arrived a little sooner.

Finally, Kenn talks about his son, who truly loved soccer and developed athletic skills that later helped him enjoy a successful high school hockey career.

  18. The 3 Worst Things I Ever Said to My Wife

    Season 2, Episode 43

    Show notes

As a public service announcement to younger generations, Kenn shares the three worst—and arguably dumbest—things he has ever said to his wife during their marriage. Spoiler alert: none of them ended well.

    1. Hair and the Truth
Early in their marriage, Kenn's wife mentioned she was thinking about cutting her hair shorter. Wanting to be supportive, Kenn told her, "Do whatever you want." Later that day, she returned home with her new haircut and asked the dreaded question: "What do you think?" Kenn's honest response? "I had no idea you were going to cut it that short!" His wife burst into tears, and a confused Kenn quickly learned a valuable lesson. From that day forward, he vowed that the correct answer would always be: "It looks great!"

    2. Air Conditioning and Postpartum Logic
After the birth of their child during a sweltering June, Kenn's wife insisted they needed air conditioning. Concerned about the baby's comfort, she made her case. Kenn, relying on pure logic rather than common sense, responded, "What does the baby have to compare it to?" Let's just say that argument did not cool things down.

    3. Breastfeeding in the Other Room
Running on little sleep, Kenn found himself frustrated by the light coming from the baby's nursery during late-night feedings. In a moment he would soon regret, he asked his wife, "Can you go into the other room and close the door this time?" Another lesson learned: exhausted husbands should think twice before making requests at 2 a.m.

As Kenn often says, nobody hands you a marriage instruction manual. Through years of trial, error, and a few spectacular mistakes, this Boomer has learned that sometimes the smartest thing you can say is nothing at all.

  19. The Wild Alaska Adventure

    Season 2, Episode 42

    Show notes

Ron shares a hilarious family vacation story from an Alaska cruise in the early 2000s that became legendary for all the unexpected characters and unforgettable moments along the way.

The adventure begins with a special inland excursion to a remote fish hatchery, reached by bush plane. During the flight, Ron, his brother-in-law, and his young son meet an eccentric gentleman from Palo Alto, California. The man's unusually serious demeanor and distinctive voice strike Ron's son as endlessly funny, leading to nonstop imitations for the remainder of the trip.

Upon arriving at the hatchery, the group is treated to an incredible sight: multiple black bears feasting on the seasonal salmon run. While enjoying the spectacle, Ron chats with the hatchery owner and guide. Their conversation is interrupted by a tourist who appears dressed for a luxury ski resort rather than the Alaskan wilderness. The disgruntled visitor loudly complains that the bears are "not wild enough." The owner, clearly astonished, responds that the bears are very much wild—they're simply too busy devouring salmon to pay attention to tourists!

But the biggest adventure comes after the cruise ends in Anchorage. Determined to create his own off-the-beaten-path excursion, Ron secretly tells his son—careful not to alarm his in-laws—that local newspapers recently reported bear attacks in the area they're about to visit. "This is going to be really wild," he promises.

At a nearby forest park, father and son encounter a man stepping out of a pickup truck looking as though he'd walked straight out of an adventure movie. He wears a rugged explorer's hat, carries a large handgun on his belt, and has a shotgun slung across his back. Curious, Ron asks why he's carrying so much firepower. The man replies matter-of-factly, "Nobody goes into this forest without being armed."

At that point, Ron and his son decide their homemade wilderness excursion has probably gone far enough.

It's another classic Boomers on the Edge tale—filled with colorful characters, questionable decisions, and just enough bear-related excitement to make for a story that still gets laughs years later.

  20. Hollywood - Metaphysical

    Season 2, Episode 41

    Show notes

The world of Boomers on the Edge takes a mystical and hilarious detour in this unforgettable episode. Join Kenn and Ron as Ron recounts his adventure into Hollywood during the 2010s, when his longtime passion for screenwriting led him to a Pitchfest—where aspiring creators pitch movie ideas directly to entertainment industry insiders.

A screenwriter for more than 13 years, Ron arrived armed with three wildly original concepts:

    • Business Casual – A comedy about an adventurous 1980s computer sales team using unconventional tactics to drag America’s corporate dinosaurs into the PC revolution.
    • Spirit Medical – Heart transplant patients in Chicago begin experiencing disturbing visions and memories tied to their donor organs… all traced back to Spirit Medical, a Detroit hospital abandoned for over 40 years.
    • Rut World – In a bizarre future where human mating cycles mimic deer, elk, and moose, Max Austin must fight to survive the government-sponsored annual spectacle known as “The Rut.”

But pitching high-concept ideas in Hollywood isn’t easy—especially when you’re a Michigander explaining “rut” to confused executives or trying to convince them that ghostly donor hearts make perfect thriller material. With help from his son, Ron navigates the chaos of the pitches, cultural misunderstandings, and surreal reactions, creating one of the most legendary stories in Boomers on the Edge history.

Funny, chaotic, and wonderfully offbeat, this episode is a classic Boomers on the Edge adventure you won’t want to miss.
