For two nights at Carnegie Hall, enjoy Leonard Bernstein’s timeless love letter to “New York, New York”—his Broadway musical debut!—performed in concert by an all-star cast. Corbin Bleu, Jin Ha, Colton Ryan, Emma Crow, Megan Hilty, Isabel Leonard, Paulo Szot, and more join Emmy- and Grammy-winning music director Rob Berman and the 45-piece Orchestra of St. Luke’s for these back-to-back performances. Written with the legendary duo of Betty Comden and Adolph Green, On the Town tells the tale of three American sailors on a 24-hour leave before they depart for battle in World War II, and features one musical theater staple after another, including “Come Up to My Place,” “I Can Cook, Too,” and “Some Other Time.”James Marino | james@broadwayradio.com | FacebookBroadwayStars

Directed by Britt Berke
PHYL follows Phyllis Chester, a governess trapped in a solitary existence and walled off from the life she craves—until a moment of lost temper leads her to risk everything. The play launches Mint Theater Company’s new season, featuring two frank, provocative, and deeply human works exploring sex, love, marriage, and the complexities of relationships. Originally scheduled to premiere in Oxford, PHYL was banned by the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, although it had passed the scrutiny of the Lord Chamberlain without requiring the alteration of a single line. The play instead premiered in Manchester, where one disapproving critic described Phyl as “slaking thirsty lips in the voluptuous pleasure of life.” When Hamilton was asked how she described the play, she replied, “Well, I call it a comedy because it has a happy ending, and I hope somebody is funny in it.”

A Musical
Book and Lyrics by Jethro Compton
Music and Lyrics by Darren Clark
Based on the Short Story by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Choreographed by Chi-San Howard
Directed by Jethro ComptonFollowing a highly acclaimed production in London’s West End, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON makes its North American premiere at The Public this fall. Olivier Award-winning writing team Jethro Compton and Darren Clark reimagine F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic story of an old man who is not at the end of his life, but at the beginning. Set in a Cornish fishing village on the coast of Great Britain, and brought to life by a company of 15 actor-musicians, this is the magical tale of a love that defies all odds.
MP: Midnight @ Daryl Roth Theatre, through January 3, 2027
Set in the American South, MIDNIGHT follows twelve interconnected lives—six Black and six white characters—whose stories unfold through an exhilarating score that blends gospel, pop, R&B, rock, folk, opera, and contemporary musical theatre. As love, loss, prejudice, and hope collide, the boundaries that separate them begin to disappear, revealing a timeless truth: while we don’t choose the roles we’re born into, we do choose who we become.MP: Memoirs Of Amorous Gentlemen @ The Night Egg at The Culture Club, through January 3, 2027

When a gay pride flag is unfurled across the street from Jeanie, an increasingly online TikToker in a suburb in Texas, two seemingly different households…freak out. How well do you know the people you live among, and with, in an America where the line between fantasy and reality has become increasingly optional? The cast of ANON will include Jeff Biehl (The Burning Cauldron of Fiery Fire), Crystal Finn (Cold War Choir Practice), Andrew Garman (The Holdovers), Izabel Mar (Family), and Obie Award winner and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos (Clybourne Park).

Peter’s Brainteaser:
He only did one Broadway play, but when the hit was sold to the movies, he reprised his role in the film version.
He later left a play that was a disaster in tryouts, but became a long-running hit that won a Tony for someone else in the cast.
Right now, you can hear his name mentioned in a Broadway production.
Who is he? What was the play and film? Of what property did he bail out? Who won a Tony for it? And what property is keeping his name before the public right now.

Special Episode: Zegree, Holmes on the joy and silliness of ‘The King’s Decree’
Show notes
On today’s episode, Matt Tamanini is in conversation with the writers of the new Off-Broadway musical “The King’s Critique,” Nat Zegree and Eric Holmes. The pair began working on the show about a decade ago and are finally bringing it to the stage beginning on Nov. 3 at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
In the show, King Benjamin (Justin Collette) decrees that women are strictly forbidden from performing onstage. Josephine (Taylor Iman Jones) is determined to change that, and she hatches an elaborate plan with fckboy tenor Sebastian (Sky Lakota-Lynch)… but if you’ve ever seen theater people try to execute any sort of plan, you can guess what happens next. And there’s a fckboy tenor involved — so whatever chaos you’re imagining, double it.
The press materials compare it to if “Bridgerton” and “South Park” had a baby, call it “more infectious than the plague and more fun than a magnificent ship full of gay men and Patti LuPone,” and it draws on the traditions of “Spamalot,” “The Book of Mormon,” and “Something Rotten!”

Special Episode: Steven Skybell, Jill Stern on resonance of ‘Aftermath’
Show notes
On today’s episode, Matt Tamanini is in conversation with two of the stars of the upcoming Off-Broadway play “Aftermath,” Steven Skybell and Jill Stern. Not only do the two play a married couple in the show, but they have been friends for nearly five decades, and it was Jill who got Steven on board the project, as she is not only an actor in the show but also a producer.
“Aftermath” — which begins performances on Monday, Oct. 19, at the Mezzanine Theatre at A.R.T./New York Theatres — follows 28-year-old freelance journalist Josh Goldman (played by Danny Kornfeld), who has just survived a Taliban kidnapping in Afghanistan and is now recovering in his childhood home with his parents (Skybell and Stern).
As Josh struggles to reconnect with his family and make sense of what he’s endured, we learn how the young journalist found the courage to take on his most dangerous assignment, and at what cost. This timely drama examines questions of moral responsibility, privilege, and sacrifice in the context of global political conflict and family ties.

The Anne-Frank Afro-Latin Hip-Hop Musical
Music and Lyrics by ANDREW FOX
Book by JOEL SINENSKYSlam Frank imagines what happens when a progressive theater company asks themselves that same question, applying the rules and tropes of progressive theater to The Diary of Anne Frank.
Transcending all taste and decency, they transform Anne Frank’s true story into an intersectional, multi-ethnic, genderqueer, decolonized, anti-capitalist, hyper-empowering Afro-Latin hip-hop musical.
This play-within-a-play is one of the most shocking and talked-about theatrical satires to hit off-Broadway in generations. And you, the audience, have the privilege of witnessing it.MP: A Celebration of Rodgers and Hart @ Carnegie Hall, Presented by singforyoursupper LLC, Monday, October 5, 2026

Directed by Will Blum
Music Supervision by Wiley DeWeese
Music Direction by Andy CollopyPF: Apricot Sky Productions’ Kill Goofy @ The Grove Street Theatre in Montclair, NJ, Through October 25, 2026
Kill Goofy is a full-length play by playwright Eric Alter and directed by David C. Neal, premiering at The Grove Street Theatre in Montclair, New Jersey
Freddy is forty-three, unemployed, and living in the same bedroom he grew up in, surrounded by the same Disney posters. His mother has met someone in Florida and is trying to work out whether she’s allowed to have a life. Barney, his best friend from childhood, is a psychologist in Ohio with a wife, a daughter, and a practice full of people who think he has the answers.
When they were thirteen, both boys were sexually abused by the same teacher. It became the biggest scandal the town had ever had. Barney’s family moved away. Freddy stayed.
Thirty years later Barney is back, and the two men finally have to face the strangest part of it: they were best friends the whole time, and they never told each other.
