Linking the Travel Industry | Did British Airways Quietly Raise Status Requirements Without Warning?
Season 4, Episode 13
Show notes
Linking the Travel Industry is a business travel podcast where we review the top travel industry stories that are posted on LinkedIn by LinkedIn members. We curate the top posts and discuss with them with travel industry veterans in a live session with audience members. You can join the live recording session by visiting BusinessTravel360.com
Your Hosts are Riaan van Schoor, Ann Cederhall and Aash Shravah
Stories covered on this podcast episode include:
• The UK Commercial Court has imposed a worldwide freezing order on the assets of the Vietnamese airline VietJet Air over more than US$250 million in unpaid aircraft leasing judgments.
• British Airways imposes higher tier point requirements for Silver and Gold Status in their loyalty programme, without any formal announcement of advance notice.
• The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released Corporate Travel Management (CTM) Group's AU$65 million (£34 million) security guarantee and restored its previous billing cycles, in what CTM describes as a "milestone" in their financial recovery.
• The European Commission is launching an investigation into Booking.com to determine if they are doing enough to prevent fraudulent and incorrect listings.
• Three interesting Wizz Air stories this week:
- Mark Duffy, Director of Talent at Ryanair, questions Wizz Air's financial situation in a post about First Officer redundancies at their Luton base. A comment on this post by Wizz Air gains plenty of likes and support.
- They are downsizing in Romania as well, but this post by Balogh Tamás is probably a bit more balanced about why that is rather than what Ryanair might say about it.
- Wizz Air also announces their partnership with Amadeus and as a result they are now available to travel sellers using Amadeus. You can subscribe to this podcast by searching 'BusinessTravel360' on your favorite podcast player or visiting https://businesstravel360.com/

The BTA | Rising Travel Taxes, Hotel Levy Concerns and Business Travel Overlooked in Rail Reform
Season 3, Episode 15
Show notes
Welcome to The BTA Podcast. In these podcasts we will endeavour to share our thoughts, concerns, optimism and build those all-important human connections with our Partners, Members and Guests.
In this episode of The BTA Pulse, Clive Wratten and Andrew Clarke unpick the Budget. It offered little headline news for business travel, but the pair dig into what sits beneath: an inflationary rise in APD (with help from a jar of gherkins), VAT on large private hire operators, and growing momentum behind the hotel levy.
With hotel partners still unsure how the levy will be collected, Clive and Andrew make the case for transparency, a lower VAT rate and a clearer understanding of the cost of doing business in the UK and invite members to share their concerns with the BTA.
They also cover the ORR’s consultation on rail market safeguards, which doesn’t mention business travel once, a TOMS consultation, and a welcome letter from the Prime Minister, before looking ahead to BTA Generation Live in Birmingham on 19 November.

No Jet Stress | The Wearable Data Trap
Season 3, Episode 18
Show notes
The NoJetStress Podcast is a traveler wellbeing podcast for frequent business travelers covering health and peak performance on the road as well as to help business travelers maintain optimal health and avoid burnout no matter how much they travel. Christopher Babayode, a Corporate Travel Wellness Expert shares his insights on Traveler Wellness.
In this podcast, Chris discusses:
You wake up in a hotel feeling sharp and ready to go. Then your wearable flashes a low readiness score—and suddenly, you feel exhausted.
Explore why high-performing business travellers can become trapped by their own health data. Wearables can be brilliant for spotting long-term recovery trends, but a single red score after a long-haul flight can quietly erode confidence, motivation and performance.
We look at:
• Why recovery can become just another KPI for executives to “crush”
• How a low score can create a nocebo effect—making you feel worse before the day begins
• Why algorithms measure data, but not resilience, purpose or momentum
• A simpler way to use wearable data as a compass, not a cageIf you have ever skipped a workout, reached for extra coffee, or doubted yourself because your sleep app told you to—this episode is for you.

The pair also touch on Birmingham’s expansion, Heathrow’s third runway and the upcoming Budget. No Jet Stress | Decision Fatigue in the Boardroom
Season 3, Episode 7

The NoJetStress Podcast is a traveler wellbeing podcast for frequent business travelers covering health and peak performance on the road as well as to help business travelers maintain optimal health and avoid burnout no matter how much they travel. Christopher Babayode, a Corporate Travel Wellness Expert shares his insights on Traveler Wellness.
In this podcast, Chris discusses:
• Hook - Jet-lagged executive = legally drunk executive. Frankfurt scenario. Your prefrontal cortex is impaired and you don't know it.
• Sneaky Fatigue - Dr. Paech's concept. Cortisol and adrenaline mask cognitive decline. PHARE Well Rhythms pillar: circadian rhythm = cognitive readiness.
• Boardroom Impact - Decision fatigue and risk miscalculation. Israeli judges study (70% to 10%, recovers after breaks). Two failure modes: conceding to escape, or freezing on good deals. ROI: $8K flight costs $100K in conceded margin. 61% productivity, 7 hours lost per trip.
• Four Rules - 24-Hour Buffer (PoSL on Day 1). Agenda Engineering (hardwire at PoML). Caffeine Cliff (green tea, not espresso). Kip or Commit (nap or full sleep cycle).
• Close - Jet lag is operational risk, not HR issue. Measure travel by decision quality, not pain tolerance. CTA: share with VP Sales / Travel Manager. You can subscribe to this podcast by searching 'BusinessTravel360' on your favorite podcast player or visiting https://businesstravel360.com/

The BTA Pulse | NATS Failures, Heathrow Charges and Hotel Levy Dominate Conversations
Season 3, Episode 13
Show notes
Welcome to The BTA Podcast. In these podcasts we will endeavour to share our thoughts, concerns, optimism and build those all-important human connections with our Partners, Members and Guests.
Episode Overview:
Clive Wratten and Andrew Clarke covered a busy period for business travel.
Air traffic control: Andrew's own trip was hit by Gulf airspace and volcanic disruption, but the main focus was NATS' latest UK failure — the third in three years. Both criticised NATS' muted response and the government's "inquiry, lessons learned" approach, noting airlines bear the cost while NATS faces none.
Heathrow charges: BTA continues backing "Heathrow Reimagined," having written to the CAA and Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander over cost mechanisms that could pass development costs to travellers.
Hotel levy: Clive discussed it live on Radio 5 — reports suggest no cap on rates and a percentage rather than flat fee. Hosts rejected the "tourist tax" framing, calling it a tax on business and growth, warning it risks pricing UK cities out of major events.
Budget submission: Ahead of the October budget, BTA's asks include no further APD rises, regrading premium economy tax, and firm rail investment (HS2/Euston), coordinated with GBTA.
Upcoming events: BTA Autumn Conference in Alicante (~2 weeks, ~190 attendees, Andrew moderating) and the London Mobility Conference (next Tuesday, alongside the People Awards).

Season 3, Episode 10

Episode Overview:
In this episode of The BTA Pulse, hosts Clive Wratten and Andrew Clark cover a hot couple of weeks for the Business Travel Association, in more ways than one.
