Cardslingers Coast to Coast

The Nine of Cups is about sharing one's accomplishments. It’s a card of satisfaction, luck, confidence about what greatness is going on around us. It’s a legacy card for building a base of what you liked in life. Count your blessings and be grateful for the bounty of good that’s in your world. The ‘slingers see this card as wishcraft where you can bring abundance into your life and work on what you want.

Homework: Greet life with a heart full of gratitude. Look up Gala Darling’s magical morning practice and work on your own version. https://galadarling.substack.com/p/how-to-start-your-day-with-my-foolproof

The Nine of Wands is a card of options, due to the exhaustion and perseverance. Figures on the card stand at attention, and leaning on a wand. They are tired and they know that they need to push forward just a bit more. There is a sense of burnout for pushing on in projects or your world. Hilary sees this as the wounded healer card, where you need energetic hygiene. Jaymi also links this card with vigilance.

Homework: Who do you need to clear out of your life and how will you do it? You don’t need people who don’t support you back.

Note: With apologies? to Critical Role season 2.

We’re almost there to the tens. The finish line. But not quite yet. The Nines are described in Kitchen Table Tarot as a burgeoning energy (we heard the author is a bitch lol) and Jaymi is loving how the Nines are facets of her journey currently. Meanwhile Hilary notes the angel number 9 is a sign to wrap up the old and begin the new. We highlight each of the nines in this episode, but make sure to keep listening for the individual episodes, starting with the 9 of Wands!

Homework: Who or what is the 9 of Wands in your life? How can you prepare yourself for what’s coming instead of regret? Also lay out all the 9s (the Hermit included) and see how your journey is reflected in them and by them.

#160 Practice Makes Magic: The Eight of Pentacles

The Eight of Pentacles is a card of repetition, of practice makes better. To do the work and keep on doing things diligently. #159 The Eight of Swords

This card is about fear or trepidation. The figure on the card is seemingly trapped but the swords aren’t cutting into the person. They can move away if they want to. Hilary sees this card similar to a knotted necklace, where it takes a different angle to get it fixed. To think your way out of any situation. The person knows that certainty is there versus the uncertainty that creates the fear and trepidation. Jaymi offers another layer of meaning as she learned that this card also shows a magical initiation where the initiate has to trust themselves to know where to find the out.

Homework: What responsibility can you take in a situation you feel stuck or uncertain? Think about how you can unbind yourself and step into a more right path. Look at the different systems RWS and Thoth.

#158 The Eight of Cups

The slingers discuss the Eight of Cups. Hilary says it’s walking away from an emotionally charged situation, and you gotta let go. Melissa shows The Unveiled Tarot and it suggests freedom and getting out of a busy situation. Take the leap and get out. Jaymi leans on both ideas, where it’s about finding what’s missing and the time to let go.

Homework: If you are in a situation where you know you gotta let something go (work, partner, thoughts eating your mind), start thinking about how you would start working on walking away.

#157 The Eight of Wands

The Cardslingers take a deep dive into the Eight of Wands. It’s a card of direction and movement. Melissa says that the card is “a decision to make” rather than a mental one. Hilary says there’s a strategy to this wand grouping, muster up your will and focus. Jaymi loves the aspect that there’s a message coming in. Think about boundaries, and not using up all of your own resources.

Homework: Consider what promises you say and double-down and move them forward.

#156 Intro to the Eights

The eights are great. Both Hilary and Jaymi share the luck of an eight. If you look at all the eights, they tie back to the strength card, so there is a lot of internal work going on. Melissa’s Kitchen Table Tarot describes how hopeful and helpful these cards can be. They also relate the minor eights back to their lives and how they see the meanings growing and changing.

Homework: Grab the eights from your deck: Strength (or Justice) and the minor eights and compare and contrast them. Also, let us know if you want to be interviewed or any topics you want us to talk about.

#153 The Seven of Pentacles

This is a card of sustainability, of harvesting what you need versus taking it all. Melissa sees this card of taking all the intentions and goals you harvest. There is some frustration involved, which makes this similar to the other suit sevens. There may be some harsh reality of working hard and either succeeding (RWS) versus the Luna Sol Tarot which is Thoth-based. Hilary says this card is the “pick your hard” card.

Homework: Choose your hard work and stay the course. Pick one thing and finish it, close your circle.

No one likes a thief and a liar and a sneaky person. The Seven of Swords talks about how trust and knowledge can be stolen. It’s a spikey card of subterfuge where the “person trying to get away with it” will get caught. Melissa sees this as how much do you trust the folks around you. It can also represent cheating on a partner (whether it’s you or others). Hilary sees this card as a “thinking about” card, that the person is not trustful. And sometimes this person is an aspect of you where you may try and get away with something. Jaymi reads this card as someone is out to get you and you gotta watch your back.

Homework: Why do people lie? Find out your reasons for yourself and others and see how it reflects back into the Seven of Swords. How does this hurt and how can you learn through the situation?

It’s all a conspiracy! The Seven of Cups has so much symbolism you can get steeped in the lore. Melissa sees this card as your wishes and where you can go with what you want. There’s an aspect of whimsy and dream-like quality. Hilary calls this the idea-rrhea card. Too many choices. Jaymi sees this card as the window shopping card where you need to choose what you want wisely. Do you take one of the cups of the deadly sins, or do you move on to get what aligns to your path?

Homework: Do the Ace of Cups and Seven of Cups trick with a deck of your choice and see how you can manifest your best path from all those choices.

#150 The Seven of Wands

The Cardslingers discuss their views of the Seven of Wands. There’s movement, chaos, and hard stances shown in the Smith Waite deck. Melissa’s view is that this is a bad intentions card, not a good position and shows an untrustworthy situation. Hilary says it’s about defending your turf, and standing your ground. Jaymi believes that there is a cause for why you feel so defensive and need to stand your ground. Viewer Nat says, “In the Peculiar Pathways Tarot (out of print) by Lennox Rees, the Seven of Wands is depicted by a squirrel on top of a ladder holding a bone and a dog jumping and barking up the ladder.”

Homework: Find a cause to defend, doesn’t have to be a monetary donation, it can be a small action.

There’s so much going on with the number seven, both in general and in tarot’s structure and mythology.

Across history, and in many cultures there’s so many associations with the number seven. There are seven days of the week. Seven continents with seven seas. Seven colors of a rainbow. Seven major stars in the big dipper. Seven deadly sins and virtues. Seven notes in a major/minor scale. Seven chakras. Seven wonders of the ancient and natural world. Seven metals of antiquity.

In tarot, seven has a mixed reception. Melissa’s represents the sevens as conflict, and impatience. You don’t get what you want, yet. You still need to put in the work and wait for it to manifest.

Homework: Look up what seven means to you. Compare and contrast all 7s with one another to what we’ve said.

The Cardslingers catch up on life. Then they discuss their thoughts on what tarot readings are, what they can do, and what they cannot do. While we understand that our clients want specific answers, or even someone to make the call for them, or even not give homework, each reader deals with these topics differently and through which medium. We go into the idea of “Sacred Silliness”. Merch update, we’re still working on it all.

Melissa reads Hilary, Jaymi, and herself to filth with a small deck up to the sixes. Hilary asks a question about a recent event happening in her life. And right away we get two cards outside of the small pack. Which leads to a lesson saying that the reading will happen as the reading wants to unfold. And there are times when cards will appear different than what we think they are. Jaymi just wants to know more about her current situation. Thanks to our viewers who asked their questions too!
