The Comb-Shaped Career: Why Senior Women with Multiple Skills Will Win in the Age of AI | Prue Jones
Show notes
AI cannot replicate relationships. And it's been my experience that projects will live or die, fail or succeed, on the basis of how strong the relationship is.

For 20 years, Prue Jones has worked in the creative industries. She's watched technology change everything, from painting with gouache and pasting up type by hand to the birth of Adobe Creative Suite, the explosion of UX, and now the arrival of AI.
And here's what she's learned: design was never really about the visuals. It was always about the decisions. The taste. The judgment. The relationships. The ability to see the whole picture when everyone else is stuck in their silo.
Those are the things AI can't do. And those are the things that will make senior women with multiple skills absolutely invaluable in the age of AI.
In this episode of the Career Confidence Podcast, Georgie sits down with Prue Jones, a creative director, designer, and leader who's spent her career connecting people, process, and creativity across some of Australia's most complex projects.
Prue shares why she believes the future belongs to what she calls comb-shaped people, women who have depth across multiple verticals, not just one. Women who can take the 10,000-foot view. Women who understand that AI can automate tasks, but it can't reassure a client, anticipate what's coming next in a conversation, or hold a team together through messy change.
This conversation is about what happens when you stop trying to pick a lane and start leaning into the breadth of your experience. It's about why taste, judgment, and critical thinking are becoming more valuable, not less. It's about the difference between facilitating transactions and facilitating connection. And it's about why the next chapter of work isn't about being the most technical person in the room. It's about being the person who can bring it all together.
Prue also shares how she's upskilling herself on AI, why she's finding it fun rather than fearful, and the one thing she wishes more designers understood: just because we can doesn't mean we should.
In this episode:
• How Prue's career has spanned 20 years in the creative industries, from gouache paint to AI
• Why design is really a set of decisions, not just visuals
• What Prue got wrong in 2017 when she said AI would never touch human creativity
• Why she believes AI is here to stay, and why it's imperative to understand it even if you're uncomfortable using it
• How she's using AI in her own design process, from Figma agents to Claude MCP
• Why taste is the one thing the machine cannot manufacture on its own
• What comb-shaped people are, and why senior women with multiple skills will win in the age of AI
• Why having a 10,000-foot view is one of the most valuable skills you can bring to an organisation
• Why AI cannot replicate relationships, and why soft skills are more important than ever
• How to lean into the breadth of your experience rather than trying to pick one lane
• Why Prue is moving from facilitating transactions to facilitating connection
• What the experience economy looks like, from book doofs to sleep concerts
• Why human connection will become even more valuable as the world becomes more reliant on technology
• Why just because we can doesn't mean we should, and the unintended consequences of AI design decisions
• How organisations need to think very carefully about who owns what in an interactionOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
Your breadth of experience isn't a problem. It's your superpower.
The women who will thrive in the age of AI aren't the ones who can do one thing perfectly. They're the ones who can pull on multiple skills, take the 10,000-foot view, and bring people together.
They're the comb-shaped women. And they're about to become absolutely invaluable.

Are You Being Underpaid? Why Women Need to Start Talking About Their Salaries
Show notes
What’s the one thing every woman should do this week to start increasing her earning potential?
Women already earn less, save less, and retire with less. We're paid less for the same work. We take time out for caring responsibilities that go unvalued and unpaid. We're told we're not technical enough, not strategic enough, too risk averse. And now, AI is being trained on data that reflects all of that.
In this episode of AI Ready Women, Georgie and Lou sit down with Angela Meyer, an award winning strategist, speaker, bestselling author, and co founder of High Money and Project Gender. Angela has spent years championing women's economic equality, and she's written a brilliant paper called Counted In: What AI Could Be Fixing About Women's Financial Lives and Why It Isn't.
This conversation is about what happens when AI learns from a financial system that was built 250 years ago by men, for men. It's about why women are being given more conservative financial advice by AI, even when they ask the same questions as men. It's about the invisible work that women do every single day that has never been counted, never been valued, and is now being completely left out of the algorithms shaping our financial futures.
Angela shares why she believes this is one of the most pivotal moments we've had to redesign the system. Why talking about money openly is one of the most powerful things women can do. And why AI literacy isn't just a nice to have anymore. It's a wealth building tool.
She also unpacks the research from MIT and Stanford that found women using AI for financial advice ended up with $60,000 less wealth by age 60, largely because the AI assumed they were more risk averse. Not because they were. But because of the way they asked questions.
This episode will make you think differently about the stories you've been told about money, the beliefs you've inherited, and the systems you're trying to navigate.
In this episode:
• How beliefs about money are shaped by the age of seven, and why that matters
• The invisible work women do that has never been valued or counted in our economic system
• What happens when AI is trained on data that reflects systemic gender bias
• The MIT and Stanford study that found women ended up with $60,000 less wealth by age 60 when using AI for financial advice
• Why AI assumes women are more risk averse, and how that assumption is costing women money
• Why women are not risk averse, we just understand calculated risk differently
• How the gender pay gap, the pink tax, and career interruptions compound over a lifetime
• Why so many capable women feel shame about money, even when they're managing million dollar budgets at work
• The why behind the buy exercise, and how it helps you get curious about your spending
• Why talking about money openly with other women is one of the most powerful things you can do
• How AI literacy can become a wealth building tool for women
• Why women need to be creators of AI, not just consumers of it
• The one thing every woman should do this week to start increasing her earning potentialOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
The best thing we can do is talk about money.
Because if we don't talk about how much we're getting paid with each other and with the men in our companies, chances are they're getting a lot more than us.
And if we don't start shaping the AI systems being built right now, we'll be locked into the same biased systems for decades to come. Only faster.
This is your reminder that you're not behind. You're not bad with money. The system was just never designed for you.
And now is the moment to change that.

Visibility Starts With You: Why Senior Women Need to See Their Own Value Before Anyone Else Will with Emma Buckland
Show notes
You can carry your career around as a kind of blur. A sense of having done a lot, but without ever seeing what it actually adds up to.
That's what Emma Buckland realised when she finally sat down and looked at her career cumulatively.
Years of work. Thousands of people helped. Millions of dollars in impact. But she'd never properly counted it before.
And that's the thing about visibility. It doesn't start with LinkedIn. It doesn't start with speaking at conferences. It starts with becoming visible to yourself first.
In this episode of the Career Confidence Podcast, Georgie sits down with Emma Buckland, a mobile UX designer with 17 years of experience across financial services, public sector, and corporate design. Emma's career has taken her from acting to designing mobile experiences that have reached millions of people across Australia and the world.
But for years, she carried that work around without ever really seeing what it amounted to. Until she did the work of looking back, connecting the dots, and recognising the evidence that was already there.
This conversation is about what happens when you stop waiting for someone else to recognise your value and start seeing it for yourself. It's about why self-trust isn't just a mindset; it's grounded in evidence. It's about how Emma went from applying to speak at UX Australia thinking they'd say no, to delivering a talk that challenged the entire design industry on how we think about mobile and interrupted attention.
Emma also shares how she's thinking about AI, why she believes designers need to refuse to let it distract us from the things that are still broken, and why the real differentiator in an AI-driven world will be the quality of thinking behind the work, not just the speed at which we can produce it.
In this episode:
• How Emma went from acting to mobile UX design, and why both come from the same impulse
• Why she became fascinated by financial services and the complexity of designing within constraints
• What's changed in 17 years of working in UX and mobile design
• Why Emma believes we need to stay ahead of AI without letting it distract us from what's still broken in design
• The blind spot in the design industry that Emma challenged at UX Australia: we're not designing for interrupted attention
• Why the real differentiator in an AI world will be quality of thinking, judgment, curiosity, and adaptability
• How Emma prepared for and delivered her talk at UX Australia, and why public speaking terrified her
• Why visibility starts with becoming visible to yourself first
• How Emma looked at her career cumulatively for the first time and realised the enormous contribution she'd never properly counted
• Why self-trust is grounded in evidence, not just mindset
• What happens when you carry your career around as a blur versus seeing what it actually adds up to
• Why staying connected to the work and the people you've helped matters more than the numbers
• How AI is changing Emma's work, from two weeks of research down to two hours, and the brain fry that comes with it
• Why Emma believes AI needs governance and why designers shouldn't lose sight of the problems AI can't solve
• What the boldest version of Emma looks like: not a bigger title, but using her experience more fully in ways that have wider effectOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
Visibility begins with being able to see and articulate your own value before expecting anyone else to see it.
You can't position yourself for what's next if you've never properly counted what you've already done.
Behind those numbers are real people. People who received money they were owed, or managed something they'd been avoiding, or were protected from losing something because the experience finally worked.
That's not just a job. That's a contribution. And it's time you started seeing it that way.

Is Your Experience Still Valuable in the Age of AI? Here’s How to Take the Lead
Show notes
If you read the headline that AI is going to take your job, well, it might. But only if you don't learn how to work with it, you don't become more visible, and you don't know your worth.
The headlines are everywhere right now. AI will take your job. Agents are out of control. We're on the cusp of superintelligence. Or even worse, AI is going to destroy us all.
And underneath all of that noise, there's a quieter, more insidious message: you're falling behind. You're not technical enough. You don't know enough. You're not doing enough.
In this episode of the Career Confidence Podcast, Georgie and Lou sit down to talk about the language being used around AI right now, and what it's actually doing to us.
They call it FOE and FOMO. Fear of extinction and fear of missing out. Two narratives that sound like opposites but actually work the same way, creating urgency, panic and paralysis, and stopping us from asking the most important question of all: is this even a future we want?
Because here's the thing. The women who are thriving in this moment aren't the ones spiraling over every headline. They're the ones asking better questions. They're the ones staying calm, staying curious, and staying visible. They're the ones adding AI to what they already know, rather than trying to become someone else entirely.
This conversation is about how to move from AI fearful to AI ready. It's about protecting your headspace in a world designed to hijack your attention. It's about understanding who benefits when you believe the narrative. And it's about recognising that your years of experience, your wisdom, your leadership, none of that is obsolete. It just needs to be positioned correctly.
Georgie and Lou also unpack the real opportunities that exist right now for women who are willing to lead, not just keep up. From building agents to running Lunch and Learns. From asking where you want to lead, not just how to keep up. From using fear as fuel to innovate, not as a reason to hide.
In this episode:
• The two narratives shaping AI right now: FOE (fear of extinction) and FOMO (fear of missing out)
• Why the language of inevitability is stopping us from asking if this is even the future we want
• How to protect your headspace when the headlines are designed to hijack your attention
• Why coming from a place of calm, not chaos, is the most important thing you can do right now
• The difference between being AI ready and being AI panicked
• Why you need to ask: who's saying this, what do they gain if I believe it, and what choice does this story take off the table for me?
• Why your subconscious is always listening, and why what you consume every day matters more than you think
• How to use fear as fuel to innovate, not as a reason to hide
• Why the question isn't how can I keep up, it's where do I want to lead
• How one woman is using AI to build agents, run Lunch and Learns, and position herself as a leader in her organisation
• Why your years of experience aren't obsolete, they just need to be positioned correctly
• Why visibility, curiosity and critical thinking are the skills that will set you apart
• How to add AI to what you already know, rather than trying to become someone else entirelyOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
Don't ask how you can keep up. Ask where you want to lead.
Because the women who are thriving right now aren't the most technical. They're the most visible, the most curious, and the most strategic.
They're the ones who understand that AI is a people problem, not just a technology problem.
And they're the ones who are staying AI ready, not AI fearful.

The Hidden Job Market: How This Tech Leader Got Her AI Role Without It Ever Being Advertised
Show notes
Within minutes, an interview was locked in. Within weeks, she was in the third stage interview. And she landed the job.
That job was never advertised. It never hit a job board.
And it's exactly the case in point of how powerful your network is.
In this episode of the Career Confidence Podcast, Georgie sits down with Priscilla, a transformation and technology leader who's spent her career connecting people, process and technology in some of Australia's biggest retail and tech organisations.
After years at David Jones leading digital trannew way
sformation, Priscilla recently stepped into a brand new AI-focused role at a fast-growing scale-up.
And here's the thing: the role was never advertised.
An old boss reached out. They had a conversation. And within weeks, she was in.
This conversation is about what it actually takes to break into AI roles when you're not the most technical person in the room. It's about why curiosity and problem solving matter more than coding. It's about the hidden cost of AI that no one's talking about yet, like token usage, data governance, and how one workflow change can break three other systems if you're not thinking holistically.
Priscilla shares how she's upskilling herself on AI, from using Claude for personal budgeting to building agents, to learning how Copilot works across different Microsoft tools, and why it's changing almost every month.
She also talks about what companies are getting wrong when they rush to implement AI without clarity on the problem they're actually trying to solve, and why the soft skills, the human connection, the ability to bring people together, are going to be the most valuable skills in an AI-driven world.
In this episode:
• How Priscilla landed her AI role through her network, not a job board
• Why technology is no longer a specialised area but everyone's business
• Whether you actually need a tech degree to work in AI
• The skills companies are hiring for right now: orchestration, communication, and the human touch
• What Priscilla's doing day to day in her new AI-focused role
• Why data strategy and governance are foundational to AI success
• How AI is being used to automate credit processing and document intake
• How she's upskilling herself on AI, from Claude to Copilot to building agents
• Why Copilot in PowerPoint was terrible six months ago and is now amazing
• The hidden cost of AI that most people don't think about: token usage
• Why companies need to think about cost control, not just cost effectiveness
• The new questions you need to ask vendors: where is the metadata stored? Is it overseas? What's your AI governance?
• Why most companies are applying AI without clarity on the problem they're solving
• Why delivery is the easy part, and getting clarity is the hard part
• How Priscilla thinks about the future of work and why humans will always be needed
• Why soft skills, critical thinking, and the courage to ask questions will matter more than technical expertise
• Her advice for women who feel intimidated by AI: embrace it, give it a go, and remember no one is an expert right nowOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
You don't need to be the most technical person to break into AI. You need to be curious, ask good questions, and understand how to connect technology with people and business outcomes.
As Priscilla puts it: if anyone says they're an expert in AI right now, you should probably ask why they think that.
Because no one is. Everyone is learning. And that's exactly why now is the time to start.

Head of Behavioural Science at NAB Reveals the AI Productivity Trap Female Leaders Need to Avoid
Show notes
AI is supposed to make us more productive.
So why are so many of us using it all day… and finishing work feeling completely mentally fried?
In this episode of AI Ready Women, Georgie Hubbard and Lou Compagnoni sit down with behavioural scientist Angela Bliss to explore what our increasing reliance on AI could be doing to the way we think, work and make decisions.
Angela has spent years studying human behaviour and decision-making, including completing a Master’s in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics, where her research explored how humans build trust with chatbots.
And her message is one every ambitious woman using AI at work needs to hear:
The goal isn’t to stop using AI. It’s to become much more deliberate about what you outsource to it.
We unpack the emerging phenomenon of AI brain fry, the cognitive overload that can come from prompting, checking, comparing and managing multiple AI outputs at once, and why being able to produce more work doesn’t necessarily mean we’re doing better work.
We also explore cognitive debt, automation bias, why AI can feel so addictive, and what happens when we start outsourcing judgment, creativity and independent thinking alongside the menial work.
In this episode:
• What “AI brain fry” actually is and why knowledge workers are starting to feel it
• Why using AI can sometimes increase cognitive load rather than reduce it
• The hidden problem with AI producing work faster than humans can properly evaluate it
• Why hyper-productivity could be changing expectations of employees
• How automation bias can cause us to trust AI outputs too easily
• Why AI feels so compelling — even when we know there may be a cost
• What “cognitive debt” means and why it matters for your career
• Why creativity and your best thinking often happen away from the screen
• How AI could change the way we make decisions
• Why organisations need to rethink productivity in an AI-enabled workplace
• Why women may be particularly vulnerable to the pressure to do even more with AI
• How to decide what work to automate — and what thinking you should protect
• Why your judgement, curiosity, creativity and expertise may become even more valuable as AI improvesAngela’s advice is simple but powerful:
Get AI to remove the menial work. Don’t hand over the skills that are building your expertise.
Because being AI ready isn’t about using AI for everything.
It’s knowing where AI can make you better — and where you still need to do the thinking.

You Know You Need a Career Change. But What Do You Actually Want Next?
Show notes
What do you do when you know something needs to change in your career… but you have absolutely no idea what the next move should be?
That’s exactly where Rebecca found herself.
After more than 15 years across experience design, leadership, coaching, and transformation, she knew there were parts of her work she loved, problem-solving, facilitating, helping people make better decisions, but she wasn’t sure what that translated into as a career.
Then redundancy gave her the space to stop, reflect and rethink what came next.
In this episode of the Career Confidence Podcast, Rebecca joins Georgie for a very real conversation about sitting in the uncomfortable middle of a career change, resisting the urge to jump straight into another familiar job, and using design thinking to work out what you actually want next.
Rebecca shares how she stopped focusing on job titles and started looking at the work she genuinely loved doing, the problems she wanted to solve and the values she wanted her next chapter to align with.
And then something interesting happened.
Once she got clearer and started sharing more publicly about the work she wanted to be known for, someone from her existing network reached out with an opportunity that was almost exactly what she had been trying to create.
In this episode:
• How to recognise when you’ve outgrown your current career path
• Why the “uncomfortable middle” is a necessary part of meaningful career change
• Why jumping straight into another familiar job can take you back to exactly where you started
• How Rebecca used design thinking to approach her own career
• The questions to ask yourself when you don’t know what you want next
• Why your values matter just as much as your skills
• How to stop defining yourself by job titles and start thinking about the problems you love solving
• Why experimentation is often more useful than trying to have your entire future figured out
• How networking and visibility helped Rebecca attract her next opportunity
• Why sharing what you know online isn’t just “self-promotion”
• What redundancy taught Rebecca about job security and identity
• Why AI doesn’t have to mean panic — and how to start using it to make your work easier
• Why a learner’s mindset will be one of the most valuable career skills over the next few years
• How to identify the human skills you want to double down on as AI changes workOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
You don’t have to know the exact answer immediately.
Sometimes the most important thing you can do is resist the urge to jump into solution mode.
What are you really good at?
What kind of work gives you energy?
What problems do you love solving?
What do you want to be known for?
What are you no longer willing to compromise on?Rebecca’s story is a brilliant reminder that clarity doesn’t always arrive in one big moment.
Sometimes you have to sit with the uncertainty, experiment, learn, put yourself out there and let the next opportunity reveal itself.
As Rebecca puts it: great opportunities come from movement.
If you’re in that uncomfortable middle right now, this episode is for you.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the five-part strategy I’m teaching women inside the Bold Move Career Accelerator right now:
Clarity. Network. Positioning. Tailored CV. Visibility.
And I’m sharing exactly why each one matters.
One woman had applied for a role and heard nothing for four weeks. She reached out to one person she knew inside the company and, within 24 hours, she had an interview and was moved through to the next round.
Another woman repositioned her LinkedIn profile and, within roughly 40 hours, a recruiter contacted her about a role she genuinely wanted.
This episode is for you if you’re applying and hearing nothing, wondering why your experience isn’t translating into interviews, or simply want a clearer plan to help you land the right role before the end of the year.
In this episode:
• Why September is such an important hiring window
• How to get clear on the role, company, environment and culture you actually want next
• Why your network is one of your biggest career assets
• How to activate relationships strategically without networking feeling awkward
• Why recruiters are increasingly using AI and LinkedIn search tools to find candidates
• How to position your LinkedIn profile around where you’re going, not just where you’ve been
• Why tailoring your CV is now non-negotiable
• Why five strong applications can be more effective than 50 generic ones
• How AI is changing screening and first-stage hiring
• Why visibility is becoming career currency
• How posting and commenting can create opportunities you never applied for
• The five-part strategy: clarity, network, positioning, tailored CV and visibilityThe goal isn’t more applications.
It’s more choice, options and the right opportunities.
If you want a new role before Christmas, make these five moves now.

It’s a powerful reminder that in today’s market, your experience matters, your CV matters, but so does who knows you, what they know you for and whether you’ve built relationships before you need them.
The conversation also explores why women are leaving technical careers at a higher rate than men, what AI means for women returning from career breaks, why flexibility still matters, and the growing opportunity for women to step into emerging AI and transformation roles.
In this episode:
• Why women are leaving highly technical careers at almost twice the rate of men during mid-career
• Why age 40 is such a critical point for women working in technology
• What happens when career progression collides with caring responsibilities
• Why organisations that want more women need to rethink flexibility, hiring and workplace culture
• How quickly technology and AI can change while someone is on parental or carers leave
• Why structured reskilling can rebuild confidence after a career break
• Why some of the most exciting new AI roles require far more than traditional technical skills
• Why brilliant women are still being overlooked for emerging AI leadership opportunities
• Why referrals and relationships can dramatically change your job search
• Georgie’s experience receiving almost 600 applications for a single role
• Why relying solely on job boards is becoming an increasingly difficult strategy
• How to network without becoming someone you’re not
• Why LinkedIn visibility and personal brand matter more in an AI-driven hiring market
• How to use AI to improve your CV without removing the stories, personality and impact that make you different
• Why continual learning needs to become part of your career strategy, regardless of your roleOne of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
Opportunities come through people, not job boards.
You don’t need hundreds of transactional connections or to spend every night at networking events.
Start with the people already around you. Former managers. Colleagues. Clients. Stakeholders. People you’ve enjoyed working with throughout your career.
Stay connected. Share what you’re working on. Be visible. Help people understand where you’re heading next.
Because your network shouldn’t be something you start building when you suddenly need a job.
It’s career currency you build long before you need to spend it.

This episode is for every senior woman who's been keeping her head down doing excellent work and hoping that's enough. For every woman who knows she should be networking but doesn't know where to start. For every woman who's terrified of putting herself out there on LinkedIn because she doesn't want to look like she's showing off.
Maryanne has spent her career jumping before she was ready. From Queensland to Melbourne. From no tech experience to leading transformation programs at Origin Energy and now in retail. From staying invisible to posting on LinkedIn every week, even when it terrified her. From letting her network slip to building it with intention. And from hoping someone would notice her work to making sure the right people know exactly what she brings.
This conversation is about the three things senior women need to focus on right now if they want to stay relevant, visible, and in demand: network, brand, and value. It's about why the old playbook of working hard and waiting to be noticed doesn't work anymore. It's about why networking as a woman doesn't have to look like the male version. And it's about the mindset shift that changes everything: you don't need to be perfect, you just need to start.
Maryanne shares how she's using AI to build her personal brand without losing her voice. Why she moved to 80% work to be there for her daughter starting prep, and how she's teaching her to be willful, not quiet. Why she signed up for cold water swimming in winter to challenge herself. And the one thing she wishes she'd done earlier in her career: build her network before she needed it.
If you've been waiting for permission to start building your visibility, this is it.

Only 1 in 5 AI leadership roles are held by women. Only 13% of women hold C-suite roles in AI, across 27 countries. We're still chasing our tail on the gender pay gap, still fighting for more women in leadership, and now AI is reshaping the entire workforce with women's voices dangerously underrepresented before the wave has even properly started.
This episode is for every woman who's applied for AI roles and heard nothing back. For every woman who thinks she's too far behind, or not technical enough, or doesn't have the right experience. For every woman who's kept her head down doing excellent work and hoped that would be enough.
It's not enough anymore. The old playbook doesn't work. The women who get chosen for AI roles aren't always the most technical. They're the ones who are visible, connected, and strategic. They understand AI is a people problem, not just a technology problem.
Lou and I catch up after a few weeks apart. She's just back from Stanford, where she completed the AI-Powered Organisation course. I'm back from the UK, where I noticed something striking: AI is everywhere. My parents are using it. My nan is using it. And my brother, a professional golfer with zero technical experience, built himself a website using Claude in three hours flat. He then built one for the new owners of his golf club too, made himself impossible to overlook, and he's now in discussions about a promotion.
This conversation is about what happens when you stop waiting to feel ready and start positioning yourself for what's next. Why the most successful AI agent at Stanford wasn't built by the most technical person in the room. Why hurt people hurt people, and how Lou handles the trolling that comes with being a woman speaking publicly about AI. And the one mindset shift that changes everything. Don't try to become someone else. Add AI to what you already know.
If you've been waiting for permission to start, this is it.

🟣 Why AI is everywhere in the UK and the US, but Australia is still catching up
🟣 The disconnect between companies hiring for AI roles and not knowing what they actually need

12 Years Recruiting. I've Never Seen a Job Market Like This (Here's What's Working Now)

After 12 years in recruitment, I can tell you this: I have never seen a job market quite like this one. And the women who get chosen aren't the ones waiting for things to settle. They're the ones reading the shift early and positioning themselves before the market does it for them.

This episode is for every woman who's been applying for roles and hearing nothing back. For every woman who's wondering why her experience isn't translating into interviews. For every woman who's starting to feel like the old playbook doesn't work anymore.
Because it doesn't.
The old way was simple: apply online, send your CV, wait for the call. The new way requires something different. You need to be easy to find. Easy to understand. Easy to remember. And easy to choose.
In this episode, I break down exactly what's working in the market right now. Why applying online isn't enough. Why your LinkedIn profile needs to be searchable, not just presentable. Why your CV needs to be tailored to every single role, not just updated. And why your network is the most valuable career asset you have, whether you're actively looking or not.
I also share the new rules that matter: get explicitly clear on what you want, position yourself for those roles, package yourself correctly on LinkedIn and your CV, activate your network before you need it, and show up visibly so the right people can find you.
This isn't about doing more. It's about doing the right things strategically. And if you've been keeping your head down doing excellent work and hoping that's enough, this episode will show you exactly what's missing.

• Clarity comes first. You cannot position yourself for something you have not named. Most women can list what they do not want. Far fewer can say what they do.
• Your LinkedIn is optimised for the roles you want, not the roles you have had. If it reflects your past, you will keep attracting your past.
• Every line on your CV has to answer "so what?" Responsibilities are what everyone lists. Outcomes are what get you shortlisted.
• Build the relationship before you need it. One coffee a week with a recruiter, an old colleague or a former manager.
• Visibility is an investment, not showing off. AI models pull from LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit and Wikipedia. Being findable now is what makes you findable later.with confidence

Georgie and Lou are taking a short break from AI Ready Women. Georgie's back in the UK with family and Lou is travelling for work, and they'll be back on the mic together again soon. Rather than go quiet, they've left you the library. Georgie sends to senior women who know they need to get current on AI and have no idea where to start.
Don't start with 45. Start with three.
Georgie's shortlist — about seven hours all in:
1. Generative AI Explained (NVIDIA) — one hour, no code, free digital badge at the end. The fastest way to stop feeling behind.
2. Career Essentials in Generative AI (Microsoft & LinkedIn) — three to four hours. This certificate posts straight to your LinkedIn profile, where recruiters are actually looking.
3. AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations (Anthropic) — three hours. Built for women who lead teams rather than build things. How to make AI decisions, not how to write code.
One honest note: 36 of the 45 are completely free with a certificate. The rest are free to study but charge for the certificate — they're marked on the page.
Why this matters more than it sounds like it should
This isn't about becoming a data scientist.
After 12 years inside recruitment, the pattern Georgie sees is this: the women who get approached for the roles that matter are not the most technical women in the room. They're the most legible ones, the women whose profile makes it obvious, in seconds, that they've kept up.
A named certificate does that before anyone has read a single line of your experience.
So pick one. Start it this week. Let confidence catch up.

After 14 years in recruitment and nine years running my own firm, I can tell you this: 75% of jobs aren't advertised. They go to the people who are doing what most women aren't. They're reaching out. They're visible. They're strategic.
If you're applying for jobs online and hearing nothing back, this episode is for you. If you've been keeping your head down doing excellent work and hoping someone will notice, this episode is for you. And if you think networking means awkward small talk at events you don't want to attend, this episode is definitely for you.
This is about the hidden job market. It's about the one mistake that's costing you opportunities you don't even know exist. And it's about the three types of networks you need to activate right now if you want to get seen, get hired, and stop sending CVs into the void.
I break down the exact strategy I teach inside the Bold Move Career Accelerator: the hot list, the warm list, and the cold list. Who should be on each one. How to reach out without feeling desperate. And what to say to get a response from recruiters and hiring managers in minutes, not weeks.
One woman inside the program applied this exact framework and landed a role that was never advertised. Another reached out to two connections at a company, got introduced to the hiring manager, and had an interview within days. This works. But only if you do it.
If you've been waiting for the right time to start networking, this is it. If you've been hoping your CV will speak for itself, it won't. And if you've been wondering why other women are getting opportunities while you're being overlooked, this episode will show you exactly what they're doing differently.

In This Episode:
🟣 The one thing 99% of people miss when applying for jobs online (and how to stand out instantly)
🟣 Why customising your CV isn't enough, and the one extra step that gets you noticed by recruiters
🟣 The hidden job market: why 75% of roles are never advertised and how to access them
🟣 The hot list, warm list, cold list framework: who should be on each one and how to activate them
🟣 The real story of a woman who landed a role in three weeks that was never posted online
🟣 How to reach out to recruiters and hiring managers on LinkedIn without feeling desperate

🟣 What to do if you haven't spoken to someone in years and you want to reconnect

Georgie and Lou sit down with Erin Ashton, AI Enablement Lead at EY, whose background is organisational psychology, not code. Erin has spent her career solving messy people problems. And it turns out that's exactly what AI needs right now.

Made Redundant and Back in a Role in 2 Weeks: The Visibility Strategy That Works
Show notes
Two weeks. That's how long it took Jodie Coomer to go from redundancy to landing her next role. And it wasn't luck. It was visibility.
Jodie spent 12 years climbing the ladder the traditional way. Junior business analyst. Project manager. Portfolio manager. Head of delivery. Linear. Logical. Safe. Except safe doesn't exist anymore. And Jodie knows that now.
When the redundancy conversation came, she wasn't completely surprised. But that didn't make it easier. Five days of shock. Tears. Imposter syndrome. The feeling that she'd been dumped. And then something shifted. She remembered the work she'd already done. The LinkedIn profile she'd optimised. The recruiter relationships she'd been building. The visibility strategy she'd been quietly putting in place.
Two weeks later, she was in a new role. A fixed term contract. Not permanent. And for the first time in her career, that felt like freedom.
This episode is about what happens when you stop waiting for the next rung on the ladder and start building a portfolio career instead. It's about why permanent roles aren't safe anymore. It's about the mindset shift from closed to curious. And it's about the one thing that changed everything for Jodie: visibility.
If you've been keeping your head down doing excellent work and hoping that's enough, this conversation is for you.

Anthropic's Fable 5: Shut Down in 3 Days Worldwide (And the Woman Behind the Twist)
Show notes
Sometimes the most dangerous thing about AI isn't what it can do. It's who gets to decide when to turn it off.
Anthropic built the most powerful version of its AI model yet, released it to the public, and then three days later, the US government ordered them to shut it down. Worldwide. For everyone.
But here's the twist: the security loop that triggered the shutdown wasn't found by a malicious hacker in a hoodie. It centred around an elegant shift in framing, pointed out by cybersecurity pioneer Katie Moussouri, proving that a simple change in perspective can completely bypass a multi-billion-dollar tech filter.
In this episode of AI Ready Women, Georgie and Lou unpack the Anthropic drama, the race to build more powerful AI, and what it all means for women trying to stay ahead in a world where the rules are changing faster than anyone can keep up.
This is about control. It's about trust. It's about who gets a say in the future we're building. And it's about why women's voices, women's questions, and women's perspectives matter more than ever before.

While the initial vulnerability testing was documented by researchers at Amazon, Moussouris became a defining voice of this event by publicly challenging the U.S. government's abrupt policy response. From Marketing to AI Leadership: The Career Pivot Senior Women Need to See, with Rebecca Lewis
Show notes
Welcome to Real Women, Real Talk, a brand new mini series inside the Career Confidence Podcast where we go behind the scenes with incredible women who are navigating career transitions, redundancies, reinvention, and the AI revolution.
No fluff. No filters. Just real, raw, honest conversations about what it actually takes to stay relevant, confident, and in demand in a world that's changing faster than ever before.
In this first episode, Georgie sits down with Rebecca Lewis, a former Head of Digital Transformation with over eight years of experience leading AI-driven change in heavily regulated industries including telco, energy, legal, and education. Bec is a single mum, a leader who's known for translating between the technical people and the CEOs, and someone who's made bold career moves without letting fear hold her back.
This conversation is about mindset, identity shifts, how to lead through AI disruption, and what it really takes to balance being a mum and having a thriving career. Bec shares what she's doing to stay ahead of the AI era, how she's raising her eight year old daughter to think differently, and the career advice she wishes she'd known five years ago.
If you've ever felt like you're behind, if you've wondered whether you can have it all, or if you're trying to figure out how to position yourself for the future, this episode is for you.

In This Episode:
🟣 Why Bec believes if you're in the room, you're there for a reason, and how that mindset shift changed everything for her career🟣 From digital marketing to Head of Digital Transformation: how Bec built her career across telco, energy, legal, and education, all heavily regulated industries
🟣 Why Bec went back and did a behavioral economics degree to understand why customers do what they do, and how that led her into the AI space
🟣 How Bec led a complete digital transformation at Vocus, taking the business from 20% to 50% digital first, and then did it all over again for service
🟣 Why AI isn't going to replace jobs, but it will change the way we bring ourselves to market and the things we do on a daily basis
🟣 The biggest concern for graduates: they're going to be expected to go from zero to 1,000, and why the education sector needs to prepare them differently
🟣 What Bec is teaching her eight year old daughter about AI, and why she's both embracing it and combating it at the same time
🟣 The human skills that will matter most: curiosity, analytical thinking, and not trusting data on face value
🟣 Why many CEOs and GMs are putting in AI tools just to say they're doing AI, but they're not really understanding what it can do
🟣 Bec's honest advice for women who are fearful of AI: find someone who's been playing in it for a long time and just sit down and talk to them
🟣 The AI tools Bec is using right now: Claude, Figma for wireframing, N8, and CoPilot, and why she's not a huge fan of ChatGPT
🟣 Why Bec believes women are still sitting in the fear space when it comes to AI
🟣 The old career advice that doesn't work anymore: that you have to choose between being a parent or having a career
🟣 The new bold advice: learn what your glass balls, rubber balls, and concrete balls are, and start setting some of those concrete balls down before you burn out
🟣 What Bec loves to do most: translate between the technical people in the room and the CEOs, because they both speak completely different languages

"I Got Paid $22 for Weeks of AI Work" - The Hidden Cost of Training Your AI | Julianne Hickey
Show notes
Sometimes the most important conversations about AI aren't happening in boardrooms or on conference stages. They're happening in data labelling sweatshops, in schools, and in the quiet moments when we ask ourselves: what are we actually building

Pope Leo XIV just released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, and it's about AI. Not the hype. Not the productivity gains. Not the trillion dollar valuations. It's about protecting human dignity in the age of artificial intelligence. And it's a 42,000 word love letter to the world that centres women's voices, women's labour, and women's leadership.
In our first conversation with Julianne, we discussed this encyclical before it was released. Now it's here, Lou has read all 42,000 words of it, and the more he reads, the more women he finds inside it.
In this episode of AI Ready Women, Georgie and Lou sit down again with Julianne Hickey, social justice leader, AI governance expert, and one of the spokespeople for the encyclical in New Zealand. Julianne has met Pope Francis twice, worked in Gaza and Palestine, and now leads AI strategy for a major government organisation. And she's also done something most of us haven't: she signed up to work for a data labelling company to see what the AI supply chain actually looks like from the inside.
What she found was harrowing. And it's the conversation your organisation isn't having. Yet.
This episode is about what happens when we stop asking what AI can do, and start asking what it should do. It's about the hidden workers training AI for a few dollars while someone becomes a trillionaire in the same week. It's about the cognitive disarmament of AI. It's about building a civilisation of love, brick by brick. And it's about why the future of AI isn't just a technical question. It's a spiritual one.

The Bold Move I Kept Off Social Media - 8 weeks, one big leap, and coming home to myself
Show notes
Sometimes the boldest move is the one you don't announce. The one you make for yourself, not for the algorithm.
Eight weeks ago, I left Melbourne. I moved to Queensland. I bought a house. I didn't post about it. I didn't share it on social media. I just did it. And it was one of the hardest, most clarifying decisions I've made in years.
This episode is different. It's personal. It's unfiltered. And it's about what happens when your body starts sending you signals that something isn't right, even when everything on paper looks like it's working.
I'm recording this from an empty room, sitting on a camp chair, in my new home in Queensland. And I'm sharing the full story of why I left the city, what I learned about values, alignment, and listening to yourself before burnout makes the decision for you.
If you've ever felt out of alignment with where you are, even when you can't quite explain why, this one's for you.

In This Episode:
🟣 Why I moved to Melbourne CBD after finishing The Bold Move — and why it was exactly the right decision at the time
🟣 The moment I realised the city energy was no longer serving me, and how my body started sending signals before my mind caught up
🟣 The values exercise that changed everything — health, freedom, and growth — and why living out of alignment with them became impossible to ignore
🟣 How I could stand there teaching clarity and values inside the Bold Moves Career Accelerator while I wasn't living aligned with my own
🟣 Why I kept the entire move off social media — and what that taught me about making decisions for yourself, not for external validation
🟣 Why "peace is productive" became my new measure of a good decision — and how feeling calm and aligned made me more effective, not less
🟣 The one regret from The Five Regrets of the Dying that shapes every bold move I make — and the question I asked when I doubted everything: "would I regret not doing this?"
🟣 What happens when you finally listen to the quiet voice that's been trying to get your attention for months
🟣 Why the bold move isn't always the loud one. Sometimes it's the one you make in silence.

If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you. Send me a message on LinkedIn or Instagram and let me know your biggest takeaway. Have you ever made a decision that felt right in your body before it made sense in your head? Have you ever had to leave something that looked good on paper because it didn't feel good in your life?
The bold move is not always the big dramatic career pivot. Sometimes it's the quiet decision to listen to yourself before burnout makes the decision for you.
The future belongs to the women who are ready for it. Let's make sure that's you.
