  1. The 2026 Halloween Special

    Episode 463

    Show notes

    Surviving the Halloween Apocalypse

It’s Halloween night, your kids are across town, and the guy who just got shot outside your house is getting back up. Then the emergency broadcasts start confirming the impossible: zombies, werewolves, vampires, witches, ghosts, and possessions are real. All at once.

In this Halloween Special, we work through getting the family home, securing the house, and surviving a world where your emergency supplies might need to include garlic, silver, and a gallon of holy water. Along the way, radio interviews and emergency TV briefings reveal what we’re up against and how we might survive it.

We also dig into some truly bizarre defenses from folklore, including scolding werewolves, distracting vampires with seeds, and chasing ghosts out with beans. Plus, what happens when someone in your family starts changing? How do churches, governments, and neighborhoods respond? And who’s worse: the monsters outside or the self-appointed monster hunters knocking on your door?

  2. The Monkey-Man Panic - Mindless Banter 159

    Episode 462

    Show notes

The Monkey-Man Panic of Delhi | Mindless Banter

In May 2001, the streets of Delhi were gripped by fear as hundreds of people reported encounters with a mysterious creature known as the Monkey-Man. Depending on who you asked, it was a four-foot hairy monkey, an eight-foot muscular monster, or a cybernetic humanoid equipped with glowing red eyes, metal claws, a helmet, roller skates, and three buttons that controlled its superpowers. Yes, roller skates.

As sightings multiplied, police launched a massive investigation, armed neighborhood patrols took to the streets, and terrified residents began sleeping in groups. Things got so out of control that innocent people were attacked, several people died during the panic, and authorities were left trying to determine whether they were dealing with an animal, an elaborate hoax, mass hysteria, or something genuinely unexplained.

In this Mindless Banter episode, we dive into one of the strangest urban legends of the modern era.

    In This Episode:

    •

How an alleged monkey attack turned into a citywide monster hunt.

    •

The increasingly ridiculous eyewitness descriptions, including the Monkey-Man's three-button control system.

    •

Superhuman rooftop jumps, spring-loaded shoes, roller skates, and invisibility technology.

    •

The bizarre theories involving military experiments, remote-controlled robots, foreign intelligence agencies, and supernatural creatures.

    •

Police encounters with ordinary monkeys, a stray dog, and a suspicious piece of cloth.

    •

The doctor who nearly started a riot with an inflated surgical glove.

    •

Four actual monkeys casually eating lunch inside a police station.

    •

The deadly consequences of the panic and what investigators discovered when they examined the supposed victims.

    •

The teenagers who allegedly revived the legend by dressing as monkeys and robbing vegetable vendors.

    •

What might actually explain the Monkey-Man phenomenon.

Was there ever a real creature lurking on Delhi's rooftops, or did an entire city collectively create one of the most bizarre monsters in history?

  3. The Mall at the End of the World - A Scenario

    Episode 461

    Show notes

The Mall at the End of the World Casual Preppers Podcast | An October Survival Scenario

What happens when an ordinary Saturday shopping trip turns into an overnight survival situation?

In this episode, we're dropping you into another immersive preparedness scenario, similar to our popular 72 Hours at the End of the Road episode.

You're at a massive shopping mall with your family, 45 miles from home, when a regional infrastructure failure takes down the power grid, disrupts communications, and brings surrounding highways to a standstill.

At first, the mall seems like the perfect place to ride things out. Food, water, shelter, security, and a sporting goods store full of survival gear. What could possibly go wrong?

    Well, quite a bit.

As the hours pass, the remaining shoppers face resource disputes, medical emergencies, a missing child, growing civil unrest, and eventually a frightening situation that forces dozens of people to secure themselves inside a department store.

Would you stay or try to make it home? What supplies would you grab? How would you protect your family when the biggest threat might be the people around you?

We're working through the entire scenario, exploring the decisions, skills, gear, and preparedness strategies that could make the difference between getting through the night and becoming part of the emergency.

    In This Episode

    •

Knowing when to bug out and when staying put is the smarter survival decision.

    •

Everyday carry and the importance of having a get-home kit in your vehicle.

    •

Turning an ordinary shopping mall into an emergency shelter.

    •

Overlooked survival supplies and unexpected places to shelter inside a mall.

    •

Resource sharing, group dynamics, and dealing with self-appointed leaders.

    •

    Surviving a commercial building blackout.

    •

Family communication and what to do when someone goes missing.

    •

Civil unrest, personal security, and sheltering during a violent threat.

    •

The moral dilemma of helping strangers when your family's safety is on the line.

    •

Medical emergencies, sanitation, and managing a group overnight.

    •

Recognizing when your shelter is no longer safe.

    •

Making critical decisions with limited or unreliable information.

It's part survival exercise, part disaster movie, and hopefully a reminder that you don't always get to choose where you are when everything goes sideways.

  4. Movie Curses - Mindless Banter 158

    Episode 460

    Show notes

    Movie Curses

Some movies have rough productions. Others seem to have something genuinely strange hanging over them.

In this episode, we dig into some of Hollywood’s most infamous “cursed” movies and the bizarre stories that built those legends. We get into the real human skeletons used in Poltergeist, the string of deaths surrounding the franchise, the ridiculous amount of bad luck connected to The Omen, the fire that destroyed The Exorcist set while leaving Regan’s bedroom untouched, and the John Wayne movie that may have exposed hundreds of people to radioactive fallout.

We also get into Brandon Lee and the eerie coincidences surrounding The Crow, the supposedly deadly Atuk screenplay, the tragedies connected to Rosemary’s Baby, the modern curse mythology around The Conjuring universe, William Shatner’s nearly lost Esperanto horror movie Incubus, the Superman curse, the insane working conditions on The Wizard of Oz, and plenty more.

Some of these stories are pure Hollywood folklore. Some are horrible accidents and coincidences that got turned into supernatural legends. And a few are strange enough that they’re a little harder to shrug off.

  5. Apartment Survival

    Episode 459

    Show notes

    Apartment Survival

Living in an apartment changes the entire preparedness equation. You’ve got limited storage, neighbors on every side, shared utilities, elevators that may stop working, lease restrictions, and a whole bunch of critical systems that you don’t actually control.

In this episode, we break down how to realistically prepare when you don’t have a basement, garage, backyard, or unlimited room for supplies. We get into apartment water and food storage, cooking during a blackout, portable power, heating and cooling, fire safety, security, communications, sanitation, dealing with neighbors, and what happens when those elevators stop working.

We also talk about one of the biggest differences with apartment survival: knowing when it’s time to get out. Your apartment might be completely fine while a fire, sewage backup, failed heating system, security problem, or something happening several floors away makes the entire building unsafe.

Apartment prepping isn’t about trying to cram a suburban prepper setup into 700 square feet. It’s about keeping things compact, mobile, useful, and having enough options to handle the emergency or get out before things get worse.

    In this episode:

    •

    Why apartment preparedness is different

    •

    Making limited storage space work

    •

Water and food storage in small spaces

    •

    Cooking safely without power

    •

    Portable power stations and charging

    •

Heating and cooling during an outage

    •

    Elevators, stairwells, and evacuation

    •

    Apartment fire safety

    •

    Security and home defense

    •

    Neighbors and shared resources

    •

    Emergency communications

    •

    Toilets and sanitation without water

    •

    Medical needs and medications

    •

Working with building management and lease restrictions

    •

Bugging in vs. knowing when to bug out

  6. Q&A - Mindless Banter 157

    Episode 458

    Show notes

This week we’re answering some of the weirdest, funniest, and surprisingly useful questions sent in by the Casual Preppers community.

We get into everything from alien invasions, apocalypse custody arrangements, hospital go-bags, EDC overload, and how much ammo is enough when velociraptors can open doors. We also tackle the important stuff, like whether diarrhea is survivable, which fictional gun we’d want in the apocalypse, what animal would make the best survival companion, and what exactly you should do if you encounter Lady Bigfoot during mating season.

Mixed in with the nonsense are some genuinely solid preparedness takeaways about keeping your everyday carry practical, planning for blended-family emergencies, having a grab-and-go hospital bag ready, knowing tsunami evacuation routes, and avoiding the doom-prepping rabbit hole. Because prepping should enhance your life, not become your life.

As usual, things eventually go completely off the rails.

  7. Surviving a Water Crisis

    Episode 457

    Show notes

    Surviving a Water Crisis

You probably use way more water every day than you realize. In this episode, we break down what happens when the tap suddenly runs dry, or worse, when the water is still flowing but you’ve been told not to drink it.

We cover how much water you actually need, what to do in the first 30 minutes of an outage, hidden water sources around your house, ways to stretch every gallon, emergency water collection, filtration and disinfection, sanitation problems, and the weird little tools that can make a water crisis a whole lot easier to manage.

    We also get into:

    • How much water a family should realistically store
    • Why your water heater can become a massive emergency reserve
    • Bathtub bladders, rain catchment, pools, snow, dew, and other backup sources
    • The difference between biological and chemical contamination
    • Filters vs. purifiers vs. boiling
    • Why clear water can still absolutely wreck you
    • Conserving water for cooking, hygiene, and cleaning
    • The poop problem when toilets stop working
    • Useful gear like siphons, transfer pumps, sillcock keys, and collapsible containers
    • What to do when municipal water finally comes back
    • Our must-have water crisis kit

The big takeaway: storing water is only the beginning. You need a plan for collecting it, moving it, treating it, rationing it, and keeping the good stuff from getting contaminated.

    Episode 456

    Show notes

    Our Top 20 80’s Movies

This week we’re stepping away from the apocalypse for a very important topic: the greatest movies of the 1980s.

Coby and Cam each bring their personal Top 20, which means plenty of nostalgia, questionable rankings, ties, childhood favorites, and movies we’ve probably watched way too many times.

We’re talking Back to the Future, Predator, The Lost Boys, Indiana Jones, The Burbs, Top Gun, RoboCop, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Gremlins and a whole pile of other 80s greatness.

Plus, honorable mentions, forgotten classics, Corey Feldman appreciation, dystopian Arnold movies, Spielberg, John Hughes, Christmas movies, and the inevitable argument over what deserves the #1 spot.

Basically, if you grew up in the 80s or just love the movies from that era, this one’s for you.

  9. 72 Hours at the End of the Road - A Scenario

    Episode 455

    Show notes

72 Hours at the End of the Road

What happens when a completely normal neighborhood gets cut off from the outside world for 72 hours?

In this episode, we drop into a fictional cul-de-sac after a violent storm washes out the only road, knocks out power, disrupts water service, and leaves twenty households to figure things out on their own.

As the hours pass, the problems start stacking up: medication shortages, generator fuel, questionable water, stranded family members, neighborhood security, hidden supplies, rumors, theft scares, and one very unfortunate missing gas can.

We work through the scenario hour by hour and ask what we would actually do, what gear really matters, how much we would share with neighbors, and how quickly a group of normal people could either become a functioning community or completely turn on each other.

The Last Grocery Trip Before SHTF

Something is happening, the shelves are still stocked, and you’ve got one more shot to make a grocery run before things get weird. In this episode, we break down how to handle that last trip without becoming the guy panic-buying 11 cases of water and a pallet of toilet paper.

We cover what to prioritize, how to shop based on the actual emergency, overlooked second-wave shortages, foods that require more water and fuel than you might think, checkout and payment problems, cold storage, and knowing when it’s time to stop shopping and get home. More importantly, we talk about how to build enough everyday preparedness that someday this entire trip becomes optional.

  12. The Paul Bennewitz Affair - MB 154

    Episode 452

    Show notes

    The Paul Bennewitz Affair

Paul Bennewitz was a successful businessman, pilot and electronics expert who lived near Kirtland Air Force Base and became convinced he was intercepting communications from extraterrestrials. What started with strange lights and bizarre radio signals quickly exploded into claims involving alien abductions, implants, underground bases, cattle mutilations, government-alien treaties, Dulce Base and even an underground war between humans and aliens.

But the craziest part of the story may be what happened behind the scenes. Air Force intelligence figures, including Richard Doty, allegedly encouraged Bennewitz’s beliefs and fed UFO disinformation into his investigation, possibly to keep him away from real classified military activity. Eventually, Bennewitz’s obsession consumed his life and contributed to a severe mental breakdown.

In this episode, we dig into Project Beta, Bennewitz’s bizarre decoded alien messages, Myrna Hansen, cattle mutilations, alien implants, Dulce Base, the alleged government treaty, Phil Schneider’s underground battle, MJ-12, William Moore and one of the strangest alleged government disinformation operations in UFO history.

    The Contingency Planner

Most families have emergency supplies, but their actual plan is usually scattered across phones, random notes, old conversations, and the brain of one person who supposedly knows where everything is.

In this episode, we break down how to build a family emergency plan that still works when the phones are dead, the roads are blocked, everyone is separated, and the household’s main prepper is not around to run the show.

Using the MAD Gear Contingency Planner and ReadyPlan app as our guide, we cover realistic threats, conditions for action, PACE planning, communication backups, meeting locations, evacuation routes, fuel, family roles, medical information, pets, gear locations, security, and how to create different loadout plans based on how much time you have to leave.

Because owning the gear is only half the job. Your family also needs to know when to act, where to go, what to grab, and what happens when Plan A falls apart.

  14. Annie Jacobsen - Biological War: A Scenario

    Episode 449

    Show notes

Biological War: A Scenario with Annie Jacobsen

Today we’re joined by bestselling author and investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen to discuss her brand-new book, Biological War: A Scenario. Annie is the author of Area 51, Operation Paperclip, The Pentagon’s Brain, Surprise, Kill, Vanish, and one of our favorites, Nuclear War: A Scenario.

In this episode, we talk with Annie about why she moved from nuclear war to biological war, how a biological attack could unfold, and why the pathogen itself may only be part of the disaster. We get into public distrust after Covid, how misinformation and panic could make a biological event far worse, and how quickly a crisis like this could overwhelm institutions, hospitals, government response, and normal civilian life.

We also discuss how biological war could spiral into military escalation or even nuclear conflict, what continuity-of-government plans and martial law might look like, and how regular people can think about preparedness without living in fear.

This is a heavy one, but it’s an important conversation about one of the most unsettling threats facing the modern world.

    In This Episode

    • Why Annie wrote Biological War after Nuclear War: A Scenario
    • The basic scenario behind the new book
    • Why public trust may be one of the biggest survival factors
    • How Covid changed the way people respond to public health warnings
    • Biological weapons, engineered pathogens, and institutional failure
    • How misinformation, rumors, and panic could accelerate collapse
    • Why a biological event could lead to military escalation
    • How a pathogen crisis could potentially trigger nuclear decisions
    • Continuity of government, martial law, and emergency powers
    • What regular people should do with terrifying information like this
    • How to take biological threats seriously without becoming consumed by fear

CPP Classics: 2020 Halloween Special – Legendary Creatures

Due to a family emergency, we’re reaching into the vault for one of our favorite Halloween episodes.

In this 2020 Halloween Special, Coby and Cam explore the strange world of legendary creatures, terrifying folklore, and the monsters people have claimed to encounter throughout history. We look at where these stories came from, what might be hiding behind the legends, and how prepared you would actually be if one of these creatures showed up outside your tent.

It’s creepy stories, questionable survival plans, legendary monsters, and classic Casual Preppers nonsense pulled directly from the dirty little archives.

Listener Q&A: Apocalypse Superpowers, Cave Bugouts and the Stay Survived Sandwich

We’re answering another round of listener questions, and this one goes in every possible direction.

Would we use an old diesel tractor to help stranded people after a CME? Is bugging out to a cave actually a good idea? Would we rather survive Jurassic Park or Predator? And which apocalypse superpower would be the most useful?

We also get into camping lantern recommendations, embarrassing early prepping mistakes, keeping an offline phone or tablet in a Faraday bag, Flock cameras, surviving extreme heat versus extreme cold, celebrity man crushes, unfinished Casual Preppers film projects, and what we would change to make the podcast better.

Then we create the ultimate Arby’s collaboration: the Stay Survived Sandwich, featuring every meat on the menu, roughly 180 grams of protein, 3,500 calories, a 72-Hour Calorie Stick and emergency-ready packaging.

Plus, grocery-store survival strategy, questionable childhood movie crushes, biblical survival, machete collections and more completely necessary preparedness discussion.

  17. 2026 Prepper Movie Draft

    Episode 447

    Show notes

    THE 2026 PREPPER MOVIE DRAFT!

It’s time for the first-ever Casual Preppers Movie Draft.

Cam and Coby build their ultimate SHTF movie rosters by drafting from a pool of survival, disaster, apocalypse, alien invasion, zombie, and end-of-the-world movies.

They have to choose which movie world they would survive in, which nightmare they would force their co-host into, the best bug-out vehicle, the most survivable prepper character, the most fun apocalypse, and much more.

Once a movie is picked, it’s gone.

Who built the better prepper movie lineup?

    MAD MAD WORLD

A freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in Pennsylvania, leading authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order.

  18. Wilhelm Reich - Mindless Banter 152

    Episode 446

    Show notes

Mindless Banter: Wilhelm Reich and Orgone Energy

Wilhelm Reich started as a serious psychoanalyst in Freud’s world and ended up building orgone boxes, weather machines, and UFO-fighting pipe cannons.

This episode has everything: childhood trauma, cosmic sex energy, healing cabinets, Einstein’s basement, FDA raids, burned books, deadly sky poison, blueberry rainmaking, cloudbusters, Arizona UFO battles, and maybe even an alien dad.

Reich believed he had discovered orgone, a universal life force tied to sex, health, weather, radiation, and outer space. Then he spent the rest of his life trying to collect it, measure it, weaponize it, and defend Earth with it.

It’s one of the strangest spirals we’ve ever covered. A Freud guy goes full cosmic plumber.

  19. The Last Safe Town

    Episode 445

    Show notes

The Last Safe Town: Could Your Town Hold It Together?

In most emergencies, people think about two choices: stay home or bug out. But there’s another piece that matters just as much: the town you already live in.

In this episode, we’re looking at your actual town as a survival asset. The roads, water system, grocery stores, fuel, comms, schools, churches, public works, medical care, local businesses, and the people who keep the whole thing running.

Could your town handle 72 hours? What about three weeks? What about three months?

We talk about what could cut your town off, how weather and geography shape your risks, whether people and supplies can actually move, where your water and food really come from, how fuel and power keep the town functioning, and why public works might be one of the most important groups nobody thinks about until something breaks.

We also get into local comms, gathering places, medical weak points, outside support, leadership, outsiders coming in, and how to score your town with a simple green, yellow, or red “hold-together” test.

Your town is not automatically safe because it’s small. It’s not automatically doomed because it has limits. The real question is whether you know what’s actually there and whether those things can hold under pressure.

  20. Q&A - Mindless Banter 151

    Episode 444

    Show notes

    10 Year Anniversary Q&A

This week we’re celebrating 10 years of The Casual Preppers Podcast with a listener Q&A full of survival talk, questionable vehicles, tactical animals, hook-hand attachments, Arby’s controversy, movie kids, horses, cults, FEMA camps, and plenty of mindless banter.

We get into bug out bags for kids, the best SHTF vehicles, which movie crew we’d rather babysit during the apocalypse, survival skill priorities, grid-down celebrity cabin buddies, EMP-proof transportation, stashed motorcycles, checking in on family, and whether prepper anxiety ever really goes away.

Most importantly, thank you. Ten years of this show only happened because you kept listening, sharing, sending questions, supporting sponsors, buying merch, and letting us crawl into your dirty little ear holes every week.

    Thanks for 10 years.

    Stay Survived.
