  1. "The Worst Haunted House" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

The Death House has terrible props, predictable scares, and a seven-dollar admission fee that barely seems worth paying. For David and his friends, making fun of it is practically a Halloween tradition. This year, a change at the entrance forces the most easily frightened member of their group to go through alone. The others expect her to catch up somewhere between the fake prisoners and the zombie hillbillies. But as they approach the exit, her bright pink princess dress is still nowhere in sight. They’ve spent the evening laughing at the costumes, ignoring the warnings, and reminding themselves that none of it is real. But in a place where everyone is pretending to be a monster, how would you recognize the one who isn’t?

  2. "Mickey's Not So Scary" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

The posters promise one night of Halloween fun: a parade, a stage show, hypnotism, and fireworks. Nobody in Wabeno seems to know who’s organizing it. Everybody seems determined to go. Jon wishes he could share their excitement. But the wolf-like figure grinning from the advertisements has started appearing in his dreams, accompanied by a song he wakes up struggling to forget. As the posters spread, his girlfriend, his sister, and his best friend offer the same reassurance: “Mickey’s not so scary.” By the time the tents appear on the high school football field, Jon has heard those words everywhere. He tells himself he’ll keep his distance. Stay near the back. Leave if anything feels wrong. Then the lights go down, and Mickey takes the stage.

  3. "Worth the Having" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

The night before Halloween, a boy takes a familiar shortcut through a neighbor’s backyard—and sees something he cannot explain. Before he can escape, it notices him. The visitor promises him something extraordinary: whatever he most wants for the coming year. But he cannot refuse its attention, and he cannot choose what it takes in return. Every October brings another reminder. Every wish brings another reason to endure the visit. As childhood hopes grow into adult ambitions, the life he builds becomes increasingly difficult to separate from the thing that claims to own him. How do you escape a creature that has made itself part of everything you value?

  4. "The Halloween Funeral" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

Nicholas Saint loved Halloween—the costumes, the ghost stories, the pleasure of giving someone a good scare. When he dies just days before his favorite holiday, his siblings know an ordinary funeral will never do. Their farewell belongs at the Timber, the wooded Missouri property where they grew up beside the Sac River. But another family owns the land now, and permission to return has been firmly denied. Determined to honor their brother, they arrange a secret journey by boat under cover of darkness. With his ashes in a guitar case and their aging mother beside them, they set out for the riverbank that holds a lifetime of memories. Then lights begin moving across the water.

    Show notes

Everyone in Hollisfield loves Granny Clark. Will knows he should, too, but something about visiting her little green house at the edge of the woods has always made him uncomfortable. At twelve, he would rather spend Halloween collecting candy than testing his nerve. His friend Spencer has other plans. Determined to answer a school rival’s dare, Spencer persuades Will to help play a prank on their elderly neighbor. All Will has to do is ring the bell and keep her talking while Spencer slips around back. Her porch light is already off when they arrive. Will wants to leave, but someone is moving inside, and Spencer refuses to turn back.

    Show notes

After a long day asking strangers to care, Amelia wants a quiet ride home. Her driver wants to talk. She smiles, offers explanations, and overlooks a few uncomfortable remarks. But as the ride continues, the questions begin to sound like accusations—and every answer seems to make things worse. With unfamiliar streets passing outside the window, Amelia must decide how much longer she can afford to dismiss the feeling that something is wrong.

    Show notes

Off Florida’s Forgotten Coast, a stranded shrimp trawler promises Jonah Daughtrey the payday he has spent years chasing. Its hull appears intact, its cargo remains aboard, and no rival salvager has reached it. For once, the advantage is his. But the crew has left no tracks on the beach, and a scavenging bird soon draws his attention to something caught in the nets. Aboard the Job 2:7, Jonah finds signs of a disaster that never made it into the ship’s distress calls. While his first mate searches the deck, he ventures below, following the prospect of salvage into cramped compartments fouled by decay. Somewhere beyond a closed door, something scratches. As the evidence mounts, Jonah must decide how much danger he is willing to overlook for a profit—and whether he has already waited too long to leave.

  9. "Drip" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

In 1994, the Lechtler family checked into room thirteen at the White Valley Hotel. By morning, both parents and their two children had vanished. The investigation yielded no answers, and the death of the hotel’s owner left White Valley with a mystery it would spend decades retelling. The hotel still welcomes guests, including visitors eager to spend a night in its most infamous room. For the young employee covering the overnight desk, that reputation is simply another way to keep a struggling business afloat. Then the newlyweds upstairs call to report an unbearable smell. With snow falling outside and the owners away, an apparently routine complaint draws the employee into the room at the center of White Valley’s unresolved past.

SmallDoc promises to make routine doctor visits a thing of the past. One simple injection puts microscopic medical machines to work inside the body, treating illness before it can disrupt everyday life. Dean Swanson’s friends swear by it. His mother feels better than she has in years. His boss sees no reason he should refuse. Dean would rather keep his cold. Then an unsettling phone call and a trip to the pharmacy give him something more serious to worry about. Familiar voices sound wrong. Ordinary movements seem strangely rehearsed. And the treatment everyone recommends begins to look less reassuring with every encounter.

At a small-town Florida carnival, the Ferris wheel stands still, the concession stalls sit abandoned, and something is growing where it should not. Detectives Dachery and Margot arrive to investigate a scene neither can explain. Flowers bloom from human remains. Moss spreads across the attractions with impossible speed. And a strange proclamation invokes a name that means nothing to them: the Moss Prophet. With daylight fading and backup still on the way, the partners search for answers among the remnants of a celebration gone terribly wrong. But every discovery makes the grounds less familiar—and their route back to the car more unsettling.

FEATURING GUEST NARRATOR MARK "MARKIPLIER" FISCHBACH! For a coroner-in-training in Washington, D.C., a call to the Metro should be another opportunity to learn. But as the autopsy proceeds, the young intern finds it increasingly difficult to work beneath the dead man’s attentive gaze. After all, how do you examine a body when you’re not sure it's really dead?

  17. "I Met Someone Who Claimed to Be the Devil" - Chilling Tales for Dark Nights

    Show notes

Seeking a quieter end to a night out, a skeptical narrator settles into a London bar, expecting little more than cheap whiskey and football on television. Then a young woman with bright red hair, ruined makeup, and someone else’s drink drying on her clothes takes the neighboring stool. She introduces herself as Lucifer, though she’s happy to answer to Lucy. Concerned that she needs help, the narrator offers to call someone. Lucy would prefer a cocktail and a chance to tell her story. Her proposition seems simple: hear her out before deciding what to do about her. But as she talks about Eden, her father, and the circumstances of her fall, the conversation becomes increasingly difficult to dismiss. Her humor conceals a deep resentment, and the certainty behind her impossible claims begins to make the crowded bar feel disturbingly isolated. Settle in for an intimate, unsettling encounter with a stranger who has plenty to say—and every intention of being heard.
