Clyde Confidential

Business, Careers, TV & Film

Hollywood doesn't run on red carpets; it runs on assistants. Behind every headline is the person who booked the car, confirmed the call time, and packed the snacks. In Hollywood, assistants aren't background; they're the operating system. From mailroom gigs, set runners and first feature films to all the chaos behind closed doors, Clyde Confidential lifts the curtain on the industry's most defining (and sometimes mortifying) early career moments. Hosted by Meghan Grimm, founder of the elite entertainment staffing agency Clyde, this podcast brings together the movers and shakers of Hollywood: clients, creators, and ex-assistants turned power players to dish on the real stories from their career journeys and biggest lessons that came out of them.

  1. The Man Barack Obama Pardoned Turned His Life Around with John Gargano

    Show notes

This week, Meghan is joined live from Moby’s in East Hampton by John Gargano, director of events and revenue for a group of restaurants between New York and the Hamptons, and Xavier, the 25-year-old he took in and who just walked his first runway at fashion week. John’s story is one for the ages: a farm kid from South Jersey who found his purpose in hospitality, then lost his way and was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. He wrote his own clemency petition to President Obama and got the call that he was going home, after 13 years, from the warden’s office. He rebuilt his life by cracking beer cans in a beer garden for $10 an hour, then rose to GM of Craft. Now John’s life rights have been sold for a movie, with any proceeds pledged to helping others get a second chance. Xavier shares his own path to New York with $400 and a love of fashion, and why John’s belief in him changed everything. Together, they make the case for hiring the “unconventional workforce,” paying it forward, and never giving up, especially if you’re 25 and think your life is over.

  2. How Jackie Schimmel’s Resume Lie Changed Her Career

    Show notes

This week, Meghan sits down with a very pregnant Jackie Schimmel, the mom who definitely named her son Clyde after the company, and her assistant (and chief of staff) Josh Cabello, for their first podcast together. Jackie’s origin story is wild: she lied her way into an internship as a “UCLA broadcast journalism major”, with no high school diploma, and was hired because everyone liked her. Josh, meanwhile, landed the job by sending surprise materials after the interview, and he’s now the guy who knows exactly which fonts Jackie will hate and runs her annual “off-brand October” content. Plus: the prenatal “labor induction” massage with a heart-shaped Himalayan salt block, a stork lawn display that welcomed baby Clyde home, and the Boston tour stop, where the venue was a suburban community center with a farmers market out front, a folding-table bar, and an audience clutching green onions, while Josh secretly learned new lighting software 30 minutes before showtime. They close with real talk on why likability beats skill, why an assistant job is a more personal relationship than any other, and why you should make sure you actually like the person you’re applying to work for.

  3. The Woman Who Built The AI Future of Fashion Shopping with Lisa Yamner

    Show notes

This week, Meghan welcomes Lisa Yamner, co-founder of Daydream and host of The Fashion Stack, to the guest chair. Lisa’s path is anything but linear: gym membership sales, cocktail waitressing (where she learned to upsell Grey Goose real quick), and 12 years at Google, where she convinced Chanel to buy the YouTube homepage for $1 million. Then came the leap she did NOT want to take, a “rebound relationship” at Condé Nast, and the founding of The Yes. Now she’s behind Daydream (“if Net-A-Porter and ChatGPT had a baby”), which she and co-founder Julie Bornstein raised $50 million for before they even had a product. Lisa gets real about why relationships are a founder’s superpower, how she hires on instinct (could you survive an airport delay together?), the names that almost beat “Daydream” (RIP, Palette), and why you have to be a delusional optimist to be truly happy building a company.

  4. What It’s Really Like Being Ivy Getty’s Assistant

    Show notes

This week on Clyde Confidential, Meghan sits down with Ivy Getty and her right hand, Renee Canterna, who just hit their three-year work anniversary. They look back on a hiring process that barely counted as an interview (it was a restaurant meet-up where Ivy’s kindness to the waitstaff sealed the deal), the early-days mix-ups, including the fitting-versus-show-location mishap, and how an art gallery background turned out to be the perfect training ground for wrangling Ivy’s world. Along the way, they get into astrology, Ivy’s rescue Chihuahuas, the T-Pain concerts they’ve attended together, and the Fashion Week car ride where one of them fully sobbed after meeting a childhood idol while the others tried not to die laughing.

Beneath the chaos, there’s real heart. They talk about the giving-back projects they dream up together, from filling a school’s winter wish list to packing backpacks and delivering meals to homebound seniors. They also share what keeps a boss-assistant relationship working when you’re close in age and the lines blur: open communication, mutual respect, a lot of patience, and finding the right fit.

  5. How Yale Breslin Turned Grunt Work Into Industry Access

    Show notes

This week, the tables turn as Meghan welcomes Yale Breslin — host of Office of, the buzzy men's-focused podcast that's carved out space for guys to be vulnerable, curious, and unguarded — onto her side of the interview. A former magazine editor (Nylon, V Magazine) turned first-time podcaster, Yale breaks down the hustle behind building Office of from scratch: recording 30 episodes before ever launching, passing a make-or-break studio "test" with a friend he's still apologizing to, and the relentless DM-sliding, favor-calling, no-means-not-yet mentality it took to land guests with zero team behind him.

Yale gets candid about evolving the show for season two — pivoting from studio interviews to filming guests in their actual "offices," wherever that may be — and unpacks the loaded question of whether he's ever been a "personality hire." Plus: lessons from his dog-walking, coffee-order-anxiety internship days, why he refuses to dwell on rejection, and his blunt advice for anyone trying to launch something of their own: get clear, ask for help, and don't be afraid of the cringe.

  6. The Woman Making Hollywood Laugh Again with Heather McMahan

    Show notes

Meghan welcomes comedian and actress Heather McMahan alongside her longtime producer and best friend Christina "Tina" Tompkins — a duo who met in college and have been running each other's lives ever since. Fresh off a red-eye during Emmys week (and running on champagne, Diet Coke, and pure adrenaline), Heather and Tina break down what it actually takes to keep a touring comedy empire from falling apart: the theater-world etiquette outsiders don't expect, the "strap on your rollerblades" energy required of any assistant who wants to survive, and why finding the right person means trusting them with everything from your dogs to your dinner order.

Plus: Heather's hard-won advice on tenacity, thick skin, and betting on yourself — even when the internet has other opinions — ahead of her new Hulu special, By a Thread, out October 16th.

  7. Diego & Natalia Boneta: The Sibling Duo Redefining Hollywood Family Business

    Show notes

    Welcome Diego and Natalia!

This week, Meghan sits down with her first-ever sibling duo: actor/producer Diego Boneta and his sister (and producing partner) Natalia Boneta. Diego takes us back to the Tom Cruise advice that changed everything — "don't just be an actor waiting for the job, create your vehicles" — and traces the wild path to landing an overall deal with Amazon that terrified them as much as it excited them. Enter Natalia: a Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan alum with zero "industry experience" on paper, who turned out to be exactly what Three Amigos Productions needed to actually deliver on an unreal deal.

Diego and Natalia get real about what it's like to build a company with your sibling — the boundary-setting battles (finance hours vs. film set hours), the trust that lets them call each other out when no assistant could, and the "divide and conquer" dynamic that's kept them working together for years. Plus: advice for the next generation, why this business is "not a meritocracy," and why family always comes first.

  8. Savannah Engel On How to Make Yourself Indispensable

    Show notes

Savannah Engel, founder of the buzzy agency Savi, and her VP (and self-described "sister") Claire O'Connor sit down with Meghan Grimm for a hilarious, no-filter conversation on building a company together for nearly eight years. Savannah traces her wild path from a Michael Kors intern who caught the designer's eye mid-internship to launching Savi after shattering her leg on her 30th birthday (on painkillers, no less). Claire shares the chaotic, extremely candid story of how she first met Savannah as an 18-year-old assistant. They break down what actually makes their agency different — chasing atypical community instead of traditional press, building brand-new communities through events and unlikely partnerships, and why fashion PR has become so saturated that authenticity is the real currency now. Plus: the wildest work-trip stories (hello, Venice), the secret to running a company with your best friend without losing the friendship, and why Dua Lipa keeps waving at them like she knows them (she doesn't). A masterclass in hustle, chaos, and building something real.

  9. How DOGPOUND Became the Gym for the Stars

    Show notes

Meghan heads to her favorite gym for a full roundtable with the trainers of DOGPOUND — the "exclusive performance members club" beloved by everyone from A-list actors to marathoners. The NYC Team kick things off talking about what actually separates DOGPOUND from every other gym (hint: it's the people, not the equipment), while the LA Team each share their own winding paths into fitness. From Whole Foods cashier to certified trainer, from construction work in Illinois to training celebrities within a few years. They get into what it really takes to work with high-profile clientele without making them feel weird, how they track everything from BMI to body fat with next-level tech, and why the gym's rotation system builds a genuine community instead of the usual gym-bro energy. Plus: the real advice from DOGPOUND's Owner, for anyone trying to break into fitness training, and a peek into the bigger vision to expand that rare Dogpound energy beyond just NYC and LA.

    Season 1, Episode 23

    Show notes

Live from the Hamptons, NYC IT-girl and content creator Lilly Sisto sits down with her head-of-brand and best friend, Sophie Krakoff, for a rare double interview into the business behind the brand. With Meghan, they break down how their friendship turned into a nearly four-year partnership, the "guinea pig" pitch that started it all, and why they compare their working relationship to a marriage (first call in the morning, last call at night, no secrets). Lilly gets candid about working for a luxury fashion job right before going all-in on content creation — and why it was the best thing that ever happened to her — while Sophie shares her winding path through influencer marketing at brands like Halsey's beauty line before landing on the talent side. Plus: what it's really like negotiating with 150+ brands, the "cringe until you're successful" mentality that got Lilly through the early days, why she'll never share her kids online, and their dream collab (hint: it involves Shake Shack). A masterclass in building a creator business without losing the friendship.

For the first time, Meghan turns the mic on herself. In this episode, the founder of Clyde Staffing and host of Clyde Confidential traces her wild path from a nursing major at Georgetown to celebrity assistant to agency founder. She opens up about using Covid isolation to finally build the company she'd always dreamed of, and the mentors — including Jennifer Lawrence, Ty Stiklorius, and Jason Weinberg — who believed in her before anyone else did. Welcome Jeff Klein!

Hotelier Jeff Klein — the man behind San Vicente Bungalows, Sunset Tower, and the West Village — pulls back the curtain on building the most coveted membership clubs in LA and New York. He talks starting his career as a bellman before working his way up through housekeeping, the (very unconventional) way he hired his longtime right hand Gabé, and why loyalty to staff like Gabé and Dimitri is the secret sauce behind his clubs' cult-like followings. Plus: the real vetting process behind who gets in (and who gets kicked out), the biggest green and red flags in both employees and members, and why he thinks San Vicente will outlast every other club in the game. From assistant to producer — Loni Rodgers spills on nearly a decade of climbing the industry ladder, and the discretion it took to do it quietly. She opens up about leaving her role with a notoriously "old Hollywood" boss right as the tabloids came calling (and why she never said a word), plus her journey through Amazon Studios, working under Angela Bassett's production banner, and now producing her own slate of features and a limited series. Along the way: a French Bulldog Instagram account that started an internet fight, a background-actress cameo that never made the final cut, and the two things they say actually matter in this business — taste and network. Show notes

    Welcome Jae Rae!

This week on Clyde Confidential, Meghan sits down with her spiritual advisor, healer, and now-client Jay Rae — recorded (fittingly) on the eve of a full moon. Jay Rae isn't just a psychic; she's been Meghan's coach through business decisions, friendship drama, and every spiral in between. They dig into the real difference between new moons and full moons, why "timing is everything" isn't just a platitude, and how Jay Rae went from a kid who thought everyone could see dead people to reading charts for JLo and building a client list of A-listers who need someone they can actually trust. Jay Rae opens up about her own origin story — the astrologer who took her under her wing and threw her in front of a radio mic a week after they met, the phone call from Hollywood, and why she's never once broken a client's confidence in 20-plus years. Oh, and yes — there's a live reading. Multiple live readings. Buckle up.

    Season 1, Episode 18

    Show notes

    Welcome Frankie!

Meghan sits down with one of her oldest and dearest friends, Frankie Carattini — Director of Events and Client Relations at People's and the man the New Yorker crowned "New York's pickiest doorman." What started as a coat-check gig while Frankie worked full-time in PR turned into the most powerful door in New York nightlife, and this episode has the full ride: getting scouted by legendary Acme doorman Patrick, surviving COVID club closures, and becoming the gatekeeper A-listers has had to charm their way past.

Frankie gets brutally honest about what it takes to run a door — the "first ten people get a no" rule, his mental blacklist for bad tippers, and the wildest things drunk guests have said to him. He and Meghan dig into how their careers mirror each other, plus the philosophy behind People's as a phone-free, human-connection-first space in a city that's forgotten how to be present.

Part friendship reunion, part masterclass in hospitality — from two people who found each other at a coat check and never looked back.

    Season 1, Episode 17

    Show notes

    Welcome Clyde Staffing!

This week on Clyde Confidential, Meghan flips the mic around and introduces the team behind the scenes — the people you've probably been emailing without ever putting a face to the name. For the first time in her life, she's running a team instead of being the assistant, and she gets candid about the learning curve that comes with it.

She sits down with Reuben, the intern who transformed Clyde's social presence into scroll-stopping content, and Sterling, her head of people, whose "you need systems" energy turned a scrappy group of interns into a fully organized machine. Along the way, Grace and Emily round out the picture of a team that shows up for each other far beyond the job description — including major support during the LA fires.

By the end, it's less "meet the team" and more "meet the family." Tune in for the interviews, the inside jokes, and the reminder that behind every great placement is a team that genuinely loves working together.

  18. How Jessica Diehl Went From Assistant To Vanity Fair Fashion Director

    Season 1, Episode 16

    Show notes

    Welcome Jessica Diehl!

Meghan sits down with brand consultant and creative director Jessica Diehl for a long-overdue catch-up — the two haven't seen each other since a chaotic trip to Puebla right before the world shut down in 2020. What follows is one of those conversations that goes everywhere and stays interesting the whole time.

Jessica's career is the stuff of fashion folklore: she bartended her way into a Marie Claire internship, worked her way up to become Grace Coddington's assistant at Vogue, spent 13+ years at Vanity Fair, and has since collaborated with nearly everyone on the A-List. She's lived through the full arc of magazine culture — and she has thoughts.

They get into what real mentorship actually looks like, why any hospitality job is the most underrated training ground in any industry, and what it felt like to leave Vogue just as Vanity Fair came calling. Jessica is refreshingly self-aware about the person she used to be and equally candid about what she'd do differently now.

With Devil Wears Prada 2 in theaters and the press tour breaking the internet, the timing couldn't be better for a conversation with someone who actually lived that world. This one's for anyone who's ever been an assistant, wanted to be one, or wondered what it was really like behind those doors.

  19. Fertility Doctor Explains How Egg Freezing Actually Works with Dr. Ghadir

    Season 1, Episode 15

    Show notes

    Welcome Dr. Ghadir!

This week, Meghan sits down with her own fertility doctor, Dr. Shahin Ghadir — a 20-year veteran and partner at HRC Fertility in Beverly Hills — for a refreshingly open conversation about egg freezing. Fresh off completing the process herself at 33, Meghan walks through her personal experience from first consultation to retrieval, breaking down everything she wishes she'd known going in: the hormone shots, the blood tests, the unexpected waddling, and the one needle mix-up that had her facetiming her nurse.

Dr. Ghadir covers the science in a totally digestible way — what AMH levels actually mean, why younger is better (but later is still worth it), and HRC's brand new needle-free injection device that Meghan is already signing up for in round two. Whether you've been thinking about it for years or this is the first time the topic has crossed your mind, this episode is the no-filter guide you didn't know you needed.

  20. Love Story Creator Connor Hines on Turning Rejection Into Success

    Season 1, Episode 14

    Show notes

    Welcome Connor!

Connor Hines — actor, writer, producer, and creator of Love Story — stops by Clyde Confidential with his assistant Sam for one of the most candid, behind-the-scenes conversations yet. From how Sam went from saying "good morning" as a Ryan Murphy receptionist to packing up his life in five days and moving to New York, to Connor pitching his way into the "Show Creator" title against all odds, this episode is a masterclass in saying yes before you're ready.

Connor opens up about what it was really like to create and showrun for the first time — the imposter syndrome, the 18-hour shoot days, the loneliness of the job, and the moment he watched the pilot in the back of an Uber and finally knew they had something. Sam gets his flowers too, because this is just as much his story: navigating eight Brooklyn roommates, a flooded apartment, and learning on the fly what it means to be a creator's right hand — not just logistics, but creative sounding board, confidant, and therapist.

Whether you're chasing your own big break or just need a reminder that momentum beats standing still, this one's going to hit.
