E75 Why I'm Not Very Good At Taking A Break
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
I’m not very good at taking a break. After a big project or launch, my first instinct is usually to dive straight into the numbers, figure out what worked, and start thinking about the next thing. In this episode, I’m sharing why slowing down doesn’t come naturally to me, what actually helps me reset, and why I’m starting to think that rest doesn’t always mean doing nothing. Sometimes it simply means creating enough distance from your normal routine to come back to yourself.
👉 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
✨ Why my first instinct after a big project is to analyze everything instead of rest
✨ How the rhythm of running an online business can make it hard to ever feel truly finished
✨ Why unused massage gift certificates have become a funny reminder that I need to slow down
✨ How travel—especially Paris—helps me step out of my normal pace and reset
✨ Why I’m beginning to think rest is less about doing nothing and more about creating space

E74 I Don't Always Try To Figure It Out Alone
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
If there’s something I really want to get good at, I usually don’t try to figure out every single part of it by myself. In this episode, I’m sharing three very different learning experiences—from tennis, to becoming fluent in French, to building an online business—that taught me the value of learning from people who already know the path. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is stop wandering, find the right teacher, and let them help you move forward faster.
👉 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
✨ Why practicing with someone better than you can help you find the rhythm you can’t reach on your own
✨ What learning French through total immersion taught me about making progress quickly
✨ Why I chose to learn online business from Amy Porterfield instead of piecing everything together myself
✨ What I mean when I talk about “cutting a check for speed”
✨ Why being capable of figuring something out yourself doesn’t mean you always have to

E73 Confidence Comes After You Begin
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
If you’ve been waiting to feel more confident before you start something creative, this episode is for you. I’m sharing why confidence usually doesn’t come first—it grows from the small pieces of evidence you collect when you try, learn, make mistakes, and keep going. You don’t have to feel completely ready. Sometimes you just need enough courage to take the very next step.
👉 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
✨ Why confidence often comes after you begin—not before
✨ How small creative wins become evidence that you really can do this
✨ Why giving yourself permission to be a beginner changes everything
✨ How one first step can turn something intimidating into something familiar
✨ Why you don’t need a ten-year plan—you just need the courage for the next step

I’m showing you exactly what you can expect inside Doodles Coaching Week, from the short live lessons and same-day replays to the step-by-step written guides and community support. E71 What Happens After You Create Your First Repeating Pattern
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Your first repeating pattern doesn’t need to be a masterpiece. In fact, that’s not really the point.
In this episode, I’m talking about what happens when you take that first tiny step into surface pattern design, even if you have no idea where to start and technology feels intimidating. Your first pattern is proof that you can learn something new, take it one baby step at a time, and do something that once felt completely out of reach.
If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your own designs on fabric but wondered whether Illustrator might be too hard, this episode is for you.
👉 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
✨ What surface pattern design actually means if the term is new to you
✨ Why your first repeating pattern does not need to be a masterpiece
✨ Why learning only the Illustrator tools you need at the beginning can make the process feel much more manageable
✨ How one small creative success can give you real evidence that you are capable
✨ Why you do not need to know where your creative journey is going before you begin

E70 Why Another Random Tutorial Won't Solve That
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Have you ever opened YouTube looking for help with surface pattern design—and ended up with twelve tabs open about Procreate, Photoshop, Illustrator, and several completely different ways to make a pattern?
You may learn something from every tutorial, but you’re still no closer to seeing your own designs on fabric. In this episode, I’m sharing why random tutorials can leave you feeling even more overwhelmed—and why the problem isn’t your ability. What you need isn’t more disconnected information. You need a clear path that shows you what to learn, what can wait, and how all the pieces fit together.
👉 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
✨ Why having access to more information isn’t the same as following a complete framework
✨ How random tutorials give you useful pieces without showing you how they fit together
✨ Why you don’t need to learn every Illustrator tool to create a repeating pattern
✨ Why finishing one small project builds your confidence more than watching twenty tutorials
✨ The three things you actually need: a clear outcome, a dependable sequence, and support when something goes wrong

E69. Three Shifts That Help You Find Time for Your Creativity
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Judy spent more than twenty years sewing beautiful things for everyone she loved, all while quietly dreaming of seeing her own designs on fabric. She just never made room for that dream, until one shift changed everything. In this episode, I share Judy's story and walk you through three small shifts that make room for your creativity, even in the middle of a very full and busy life. None of them require more hours in your day. If you've ever told yourself you'd get to your creativity "someday," this one is for you.
👉 What You'll Learn:
• Why "I don't have time" is often standing in front of something much quieter, and what's really keeping you stuck
• The first shift: how to think about your busy life differently and make room for your dream
• The second shift: why waiting for "someday" keeps you stuck, and how a small, doable starting point changes everything
• The third shift: why putting yourself first isn't selfish, and how it gives the people you love a more alive version of you
• How students like Ann Marie and Wendy built creative lives in the margins of full, busy seasons➡️ Important Links:

E68. The Real Reason Your Doodles Stay Stuck In Your Head
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Have you ever bought a course, watched a lesson or two, and then quietly let it slip away? If so, I promise there is nothing wrong with you. In this episode I share the real reason beginners stop before they finish their first pattern, and it has almost nothing to do with talent or willpower.
I walk you through the three keys that actually help women cross the finish line, and I tell you about a former student who went from never opening Illustrator to selling her art on products in about two weeks. If your doodles have been stuck in your head for too long, this one is for you.
👉 What You'll Learn:
• Why finishing has far more to do with your environment than your discipline
• How a real deadline turns endless "watching lessons" into an actual finished pattern
• The hidden fear that makes beginners stall right before the finish line, and how to move through it
• Why confidence comes after you finish, not before, and what that means for you
• How the right kind of support meets you exactly how you learn, so a small snag never becomes a full stop➡️ Important Links:

E67. How One Simple Doodle Becomes a Real Product
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Pauline was once told by a teacher that she had no talent, so she walked away from art for decades. Then she learned to turn her doodles into repeating patterns, and one simple design of her little village became cards, mugs, and tea towels that drew a queue at her local fair. In this episode I share three truths about how one small doodle becomes a real product you can hold, gift, or sell, using the stories of three women who each started with nothing more than a simple drawing. If you have ever looked at your own sketchbook and thought your doodles were too simple to ever count, this one is for you.
👉 What You'll Learn:
• Why your doodle was never meant to be the finished product, and what it actually is
• The one learnable skill that turns a simple drawing into a sellable product
• How a single design can multiply onto cards, fabric, tote bags, and more
• Why artistic talent is not the thing standing between you and real products
• The one simple starting point every one of these women had in common➡️ Important Links:

E66 Five Signs You're More Ready Than You Think
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
If you've been waiting to feel ready before you start something creative, this episode is for you. I share the reframe that changed everything for me and for thousands of my students: readiness isn't a feeling you wait to arrive. It's a set of quiet signs that are probably already showing up in your life right now. I walk through five of them, from the pull that won't leave you alone to the season quietly making room, and show you why you may be far more ready than you feel to turn your doodles into surface patterns.
👉 What You'll Learn:
• Why "feeling ready" and "being ready" are two completely different things, and why the feeling may never arrive the way you expect
• How the fear of technology can actually be a sign you're ready, not a sign you're not
• Why the making you already do (sewing, quilting, doodling) is a lifetime of creativity you've simply never called design
• How to answer the fear that you're too late or that the industry is too crowded
• The quietest and most powerful sign of all, and why choosing yourself isn't selfish➡️ Important Links:

E65 Three Reasons It's Not Too Late to Learn Illustrator
Show notes
SHOW NOTES:
Kathleen was so scared of the technology that she almost never started. She loves her gadgets, but Adobe Illustrator felt like a wall. Fast forward and her fabric designs have sold at farmers markets as tablecloths, napkins, and bundles for quilters and sewists.
In this episode I share the three reasons she went from frozen to selling, and why, if you've ever dreamed of seeing your designs on fabric, you may be closer than you think. This one is for you if you've told yourself you're too old, too behind, or just not tech savvy enough to learn Adobe Illustrator.
👉 What You'll Learn:
• Why you don't need to be tech savvy to create beautiful, sellable patterns
• The small slice of Adobe Illustrator that actually matters (and how much you can safely ignore)
• Why trying to learn alone keeps so many women stuck, and what changes everything
• How a small, supportive community makes the hard parts feel doable
