    Episode 221

    Show notes

    #BMW3Series #AutoNews #CruiseControlMotoring

The all-new BMW 3 Series leads this week’s podcast —with two powertrains and a big question: gas or electric? The i3 50 xDrive makes 463 horsepower, with BMW estimating a preliminary range of 446–468 miles. The gas-powered M350 xDrive makes 437 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in a BMW-claimed 3.9 seconds. We dig into the specs, technology, pricing, and BMW’s new Drift Moment feature.

Diesel averaged $6.38 a gallon for the week of September 28 as the White House considered a proposed 90-day export restriction. We also look at new fuel economy rules, vehicle classifications, Tesla Model Y delivery waits, and Kia’s 2027 K4, which starts at $22,390 before destination.

Plus: the all-new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan and 2027 Atlas, Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, Honda’s hybrid plans, the 2027 Chevy Bolt production outlook, a California Highway Patrol Camaro, Aston Martin DBX GT, Chinese vehicles and Waymo’s robotaxi fleet, Ford’s two-tone F-150, Subaru anniversary editions, two-door vehicle sales, and a manual-style shifter conversion for dual-clutch cars.

  3. 2027 FORD F-150 FIGHTS RAM HEMI & NEW SILVERADO | MORE V8s, CHEAPER RAPTOR

    Episode 219

    Show notes

    #FordF150 #Ram1500 #ChevroletSilverado

The 2027 Ford F-150 is fighting to protect its pickup-truck sales crown as the Ram HEMI returns and an all-new Chevrolet Silverado approaches. Ford’s answer includes a larger standard engine, wider V8 availability, a less expensive F-150 Raptor, BlueCruise hands-free towing and a new Carhartt special edition.

Fred Staab and Les Jackson break down Ford’s strategy and ask whether these changes are enough to keep the F-150 ahead of Ram and Chevrolet.

The new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 becomes the F-150’s base engine with 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet, becomes available across more of the lineup. Ford is also expanding BlueCruise with hands-free trailer towing and offering buyers a more affordable route into the high-performance Raptor.

  7. Ford’s $30K EV Pickup Revealed? Fathom Targets Affordable Electric Trucks

    Episode 215

    Show notes

    #FordFathom #ElectricTruck #ford

Ford has revealed the name and starting price for the first vehicle based on its new Universal EV Platform. Fathom is expected to be a small electric pickup roughly the size of a Ford Maverick, with a starting price of $28,350. Ford sees its new affordable EV architecture as a major step toward bringing lower-cost electric vehicles to the mass market.

But that’s just the beginning of this edition of Cruise Control Motoring. Fred Staab and Les Jackson also dig into the growing problem of negative equity, with nearly 3 in 10 trade-ins underwater and some buyers carrying enormous amounts of old debt into their next vehicle. Mercedes admits touchscreens went too far, Ford explains a major July sales decline, and Ferrari’s roughly $600,000 electric model is already attracting buyers.

Plus: hybrids are beating battery EVs in California, Tesla insurance costs get a closer look, the Camaro could return for the 2029 model year, Hyundai’s Venue becomes one of America’s least-expensive new cars, heated seats top a surprising list of must-have features, and GM develops technology that could automatically adjust your mirrors to reduce blind spots. And yes, there’s still plenty of V8 news: Ford expands V8 availability in the F-150 while Ram changes course with the 5.7-liter HEMI.
