Anakin and Obi-Wan sprint through the Halls of the Invisible Hand, lightsabers ready for the battle to come. R2 has given them a good idea of where the prisoner is thanks to accessing the ship's logs. However, the strange thing is neither of them can sense him.

Once they arrive at the detention block, it becomes clear as to why. The chancellor is dead. He lays slumped over his chair, a burning hole right through his heart where a lightsaber impaled him.

Dooku wakes up to the sound of birds chirping and children laughing. His eyes immediately narrow suspiciously as he rises to his feet. To his surprise, his body moves with a vigor he had not felt in years.

He begins to rise and wipe the sweat from his brow. And then something feels off he blinked and stared at his hands, which are attached to his body once again. Dooku’s body shakes as his mind races. Something is not adding up, and he tries to make sense of it.

Even from his childhood, Anakin showed signs of being the chosen one. It was why Jedi like Qui-Gon-Jin took such an interest in him. But while the evidence was there, the Jedi failed to take the right action and it took Qui-Gon dying before they allowed Anakin to join the order. Even then, they placed Anakin under the watch of Obi-Wan, an inexperienced Jedi instead of someone more accomplished. This raises the question, of what would have happened if Yoda took the responsibility for himself.

Anakin’s eyes widen as he spots Obi-Wan descending Padme’s ship. A spark of betrayal crosses his face, followed by anger as his mind thinks of all the possibilities. He turns to Padme and feels the Force reaching out and urging him to lash out and strike them. But as he stares at their faces, his anger fades and he instantly feels ashamed.

Padme was his wife and the mother of his kids. The kids she’s carrying right now. How could he possibly hurt her?

This was a failure, and there is no denying that. And in the Sith, failure is normally only punishable by death. He considers leaving him here to die or perhaps constructing a suit to punish him, forcing him to live with his weakness for the rest of his life.

He looks around at the rest of the hooded Jedi Council/ They make for a solemn sight and while he appreciates the respect they show, doubts creep into his mind. They were a grim lot and far too rigid. Hardly the place for someone like Anakin to be raised.

Anakin: How long were we gone…

Anakin’s voice trails off as he stares at the viewport. He sees nothing but the wreckage of Republic and CIS ships everywhere. A battle must have taken place here and a big one at that. His heart clenches as he thinks of the people below including Padme.

The only comfort is that some Republic ships are patrolling the planet, showing that at least the Republic still controls the planet. One of the ships hails them and orders them to identify themselves.
