    Join the challenge! https://courses.espressoenglish.net/real-world-english-challenge/

Why is it so hard to understand English in the real world?

You've been learning English for a while, and you can understand your teacher... but when you watch a movie or read something written for native speakers... suddenly English seems a LOT harder.

    There's a reason for this:

πŸ’‘ English lessons are designed to help you understand.

🌎 But real-world English is NOT designed for English learners.

    The vocabulary is NOT simplified.

The speed of speaking is NOT slowed down.

Nobody is stopping to explain new idioms or expressions.

That means it's more difficult - and more frustrating. πŸ˜–

But if you want to become more fluent and confident, you need to go beyond English lessons and textbooks, and start becoming comfortable with the language that native speakers ACTUALLY use.

That's exactly what you can do inside the NEW Real-World English Challenge! - starting November 1!

For 30 days, we'll learn English from a variety of real sources like news reports, YouTube videos, presentations, blogs, and more. These are all created by native speakers, for native speakers - so this challenge is designed to help you become comfortable and confident with native-level English.

We'll work with each piece of real-world English for 3 days. This gives you time to understand the English deeply, practice what you learn, and use it yourself.

πŸ’‘ DAY 1: LEARN. Read or listen to a piece of real-world English and learn key words and phrases. ✍️ DAY 2: PRACTICE. Do the exercises to review the new vocabulary and try using it yourself. πŸ’¬ DAY 3: CHAT. Share your ideas and opinions on the topic inside our private student WhatsApp group. πŸ” AND REPEAT! Start the cycle again with a NEW piece of real-world English to learn different vocabulary and discuss a new theme.

By the end of the month you will β˜‘οΈ Improve your understanding of native-level English β˜‘οΈ You'll learn authentic vocabulary and expressions in context β˜‘οΈ You'll practice using new words and phrases in your own English β˜‘οΈ You'll discuss real-world topics within our private WhatsApp group β˜‘οΈ And best of all, you'll be more confident understanding and using English in the real world!

This is a brand-new challenge, and when you join by November 3, you can save $30 and get the best possible price.

Click here to learn more about the Real-World English Challenge, and join us if you're ready to level up your fluency in November.

    πŸ“˜ Basic & Intermediate Grammar E-Books

    Do you say:

"I enjoy to read"… or "I enjoy reading"?

"I decided going"… or "I decided to go"?

If you're not sure and you're guessing… you're not alone.

Gerunds vs. infinitives are one of the most confusing parts of learning English grammar. But today I'll make it clear when to use which one - so you can be correct and confident.

A gerund is a verb with an -ing ending, which functions as a noun in the sentence πŸ‘‰ "reading," "going," "eating"

An infinitive = to + verb πŸ‘‰ "to read," "to go," "to eat"

The problem is that when we have two verbs in a row… πŸ‘‰ Sometimes the second verb ends in -ing πŸ‘‰ Sometimes the second one is to + verb πŸ‘‰ Sometimes BOTH are possible!

Let's look at each case step by step.

You'll definitely want to download today's lesson guide to review all the examples - it also includes a quiz so you can test yourself and see if you've mastered gerunds and infinitives: https://espresso-english.kit.com/download-to-ing-25-verbs

How good is your English pronunciation? Let's put it to the test with some tongue twisters!

Tongue twisters are sentences that are intentionally difficult to say, especially when you try to say them quickly. And they're not just fun – they're great pronunciation practice because they make you repeat similar sounds again and again.

In this lesson, we're going to practice six English tongue twisters. I'll say each one slowly first - try to say it with me - and then we'll try it faster.

And I have to warn you – the last one is REALLY hard. I'm not even sure I can say it perfectly!

Not all English is the same - we have formal English vs. informal English. The way you speak to a close friend is probably very different from the way you talk to your manager or communicate with a client!

Informal English is friendly, relaxed, and conversational. Native speakers use it with friends, family, classmates, and coworkers they know well. It's common in text messages, casual emails, and everyday conversations.

Formal English is more polite, professional, and carefully worded. You'll often see it in business emails, job applications, academic writing, customer service, presentations, and communication with people you don't know well.

Today I'll show you 10 phrases and how they're different when we're speaking formal vs. informal English.

And I've got a super bonus for you - a guide to 50 phrases in formal English and informal English. It's really helpful in seeing how we say it differently in each situation.
