An El Camino Through the Corkscrew At Laguna Seca

An El Camino Through the Corkscrew At Laguna Seca
In this Olds 455 Episode: Mental can't drive a CRX Chris raw dogs the notes, Chrissy takes a stroll by the ocean And Tim learns how to use a trailer hitch.
Episode 455 is the hangover show from the 24 Hours of Lemons 20th Anniversary race at Laguna Seca; invitation only, one day, and the reason you didn't get an episode last week.
We took an El Camino through the Corkscrew. Theme was business up front, party in the back. Nine drivers, 40 minute shifts we somehow actually stuck to, 164 laps, 9th overall and 2nd in class, and it ran out of gas roughly five feet after the race, so we finished with a dance party on the roof of it.

WHAT HAPPENED AT LAGUNA
•
A 280,000-mile C5 got the blue flag shown to a brand new GT3 RS with paper plates
•
Tim's Sunday student bought a 2015 911 with 1,600 miles on it five months ago, had never been on a track, and gathered up a full slide at the Andretti hairpin on command
•
The paddock didn't open to Lemons until 6pm, there are no race motors after 5 at Laguna, so the kill switch test just... happened on raceday
•
Our BS sheet got so soaked in beer the judge couldn't write on it with a Sharpie
•
Italian Job came from Philadelphia and served 300 pounds of cheesesteaks
•
If we missed you, we're sorry. We were drunk.
AND BEFORE ALL THAT
•
The Solstice transmission went in after a fight, and then had to come straight back out
•
A wheel bearing race against a UPS truck, lost at noon and won at 12:15
•
Nine miles per gallon, four days, a dog, and allegedly 24 cases of wine
•
Cracked sidewalls at 40,000 miles — and what the dealer quietly admitted about the compound they put on new trucks

Why Your Race Car Setup is Failing (and how to fix it while getting 20% off!)
If you’ve ever corner-weighted a car and wanted to throw the scales across the paddock, this this Mercedes-Benz SL Mille Miglia 417 episode is for you…
In this episode Tim tours various airport lounges, Chris rewires his home to work without power, Chrissy is running in short sleeves for Colorado winter while Mental goes unguided, tosses his FSAE car onto saw horses, just to have it fall on him. Really, we sit down with Jeff & Tim, the creators of Race Setup Pro—a software tool built by racers, for racers—and break down why most amateur race cars are leaving massive time on the table… even when the parts are “right.”
We talk real-world suspension setup, corner balancing frustrations, and why “just turning a wrench” isn’t enough if you don’t understand what the car is actually doing.Race Setup Pro is grassroots setup software for every level of motorsports from HPDE to IMSA. “It’s software designed to help you optimize your setup. It’s interview based, so you answer questions about your car, how you like it to feel, and what it’s doing on track, and it makes recommendations on how to adjust tire pressures, dampers, sway bars, etc. It will even give advice on aero, spring rates, alignment, and corner balance.”
It can grow with you and your team as you progress through the various forms of motorsport.
And because they are awesome, Tim & Jeff are offering you a 20% discount!

106 Cars. Two Judges. One Car Shaped Like a Foot.
Show notes
106 Cars. Two Judges. One Car Shaped Like a Foot.
In the ‘Murica 454 Episode; Mental finds a large piece of pipe 4 ft down in concrete, Tim is sticky and doesn't know why, Chrissy’s car should yell at deer in the road meanwhile
Chris is trying to figure out why the rear caliper is leaking while nothing is happening. Really Mental and Tim tell us everything that happened at the Buttonwillow race two weeks ago. Here’s a hint- it was face of the sun hot!
A team of rookies showed up at Buttonwillow with an Acura Integra that they had turned into a giant human foot. Veins painted on it. An ankle. Somebody may or may not have drawn a Camel cigarette logo on one of the toenails. We put it in C class and we did not care what was under it.
Episode 454 is the Buttonwillow hangover: our full 24 Hours of Lemons recap from The Butt, two weeks on, now that everyone can form sentences again. 106 cars, 105 degrees, and a judging staff that started as four people and ended up as what Mental generously called a judge and a half.
The driving was bad. Really bad. Bad enough that they ran out of punishments by Saturday afternoon and started recycling them. Bad enough that Tom Webb called a mandatory Sunday morning driver's meeting, and made everyone meet at the one place on the property they'd been failing to use correctly all weekend.
It didn't help.
The people, though, were tremendous. They always are.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE BUTT
Wrong-hole-itis: teams entering and exiting the track through whatever gap they liked
Four separate teams, many of them engineers, defeated by one children's jigsaw puzzle
A rookie team raising money for a dog rescue who spent a 100-degree weekend in full black ninja costumes selling fresh fruit cups. Sorry for Party felt, well, sorry and eventually gave them an EZ-up out of pity.
Tim's cool shirt failed three different ways in one stint: iced with no water, then a fitting that blew off and hosed him down, then a box nobody strapped in
The LA firefighters put on full turnout gear in 105 degrees to do a demo, then cut a car apart with the jaws of life
Sunday morning: a car shaped like a foot parked next to a car shaped like a wiener, as a visual aid
AWARDS
Dual Heroic Fix: a rookie Mini team who discovered the previous owner installed the clutch backwards, fixed it off YouTube overnight — and 30 college kids who blew up their Accord and got it back on the track Sunday to cheers
I Got Screwed: a cone kicked up by another car shattered a windshield in the driver's line of sight while they were leading C
Organizer's Choice: the foot. The judging notes read, in full, "it's a foot."
IOE: a bone stock Iron Duke S10 that had a transmission driven in from Los Angeles overnight

We Held a Séance With Our Range Rover It Didn't Help.
On the second night of the Colorado Lemons Rally, we put a lit candelabra on the hood of a Range Rover & held a séance to ask the ghosts of the founders of the Rover Group why it was leaking coolant. They were unhelpful. The wax is still on the hood.
In this BMW M1 episode 453, Mental has a dusty butt, Eric makes cat/supercharger noises, Chrissy types feverishly & Chris didn’t go to public school
Really, we talk all about our experience on the 2026 Lemons Rally Colorado Breakdown with our 2008 Range Rover & 1993 Volvo 945 turbo.
Episode 453 is the full 24 Hours of Lemons Colorado Rally recap. Three days, eighteen cars, Denver to Craig to Grand Junction & back, with Eric Kritzler — DJ 914 — sitting in for Tim, who was busy getting sunburned at Buttonwillow. Our theme was The Coastal Elite: popped collars, boat shoes, a top hat, enormous diamond earrings, a sweater draped over the shoulders, a pocket full of fake hundred dollar bills, & three days of calling each other "my good man."
Two cars, both bought on a whim: an 18-year-old Range Rover on its fifth owner, & a 1993 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon that Eric won at auction from 1,200 miles away. The seller left the keys under the mat & wasn't there. Eric drove it 700 miles to Colorado with no working radio, in total silence, & called it cathartic.

WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE
At the Stanley Hotel the challenge was to recreate a scene from The Shining. Nobody planned for Chrissy to be the star. Chrissy became the star. "Here's Chrissy."
We left a note on the Range Rover's dash: the car is not broken, we'll be right back
Lunch beside a river on actual china, with a tablecloth & a candelabra, eating grocery store shrimp
A man walked up to our car in the middle of a nice town & simply got in. We took him to our Airbnb.
Handing out fake $100 bills, including to a gas station clerk who told her entire staff she'd gotten a hundred dollar tip
The awards, including a 1957 International race truck with a Volvo five-cylinder, Crown Vic suspension, no windows, & a full Austin Powers costume in the heat
ALSO IN THIS EPISODE
Lemons is racing Laguna Seca, & the 45-car field was picked by writing team names on 10mm sockets & fishing them out of a pan of used oil by hand
A Stellantis patent for an EV that ejects its own burning battery pack & drives away from it
The Batman Returns Batmobile heads to auction at $5-7 million. It's two Impala chassis welded together under hand-laid fiberglass. That's a Lemons build.

80% of Crashes Happen at This Buttonwillow Corner.
Show notes
Eighty percent of the incidents at Buttonwillow happen at one corner. It's a slight rise, the curve keeps going as you climb it, and there's a flag station at the top holding all the information about whatever tragedy is waiting on the other side. It's called Phil Hill. Don't be a statistic on it.
Episode 452 is a big one: our full 24 Hours of Lemons Buttonwillow preview, yes, The Butt, plus the results from NCM and everything you need for the Colorado Lemons Rally. In this old Russian Van Episode 452; Chris double twangs ratchet straps
Chrissy requires you to bring something other than grapes to the rally dinner
Tim aka, Ol’ asbestos balls, is at it again while Accu-Mental warns you of the weather at Buttonwillow raceway, AKA The Butt.
106 cars are entered at Buttonwillow this weekend. Tim is racing it, Mental is judging it, and we walk all 13 turns of the clockwise layout; Sunrise, Off Ramp, Cotton Corners, Grapevine, Club Corner, Bus Stop, Truck Stop, Riverside, Phil Hill, Sweeper, Star Mazda, the Esses and Sunset. Also with the schedule, the gate fee nobody expects, and the Accu-Mental Forecast. Short version on the weather: 99 on Thursday, and no, you do not want that rain you're wishing for. It turns the place into peanut butter and adds thirty pounds to your car.
Meanwhile Chris and Chrissy are hosting AND running the Colorado Lemons Rally, which launches from their driveway. There is a five-foot hole in the yard. There is caution tape. We are all a little worried.

Mom's Friendly Racing Company was 8th overall with 15 minutes to go, blew up, and finished the race on jack stands leaking into a drip pan. We made them push it to the awards ceremony and keep leaking in front of everybody.
Heroic Fix: a dad drove 600 miles home to Alabama for a charge pipe. He left his son at the track.
A team climbed a barbed-wire fence at 5:30 in the morning to retrieve another team's forgotten tires
IOE: drag racers who'd never turned left or right showed up with a fist-sized hole in the bell housing patched with wire mesh and JB Weld. They ran 230+ laps.
97 degrees and humid, the most fueling issues anyone could remember at a Lemons race

Your Light Bar Will Fail. Here's What Actually Passes Tech
In this episode Mercedes Rally SLC 450; Chrissy has never raced at night, Chris did not fix the boat, but Mental did fix the 912 and Tim is paking up to drive across country….again. And if you show up at High Plains Raceway with a light bar on your roof, you are going to fail light tech. If you tape over the top of it, you are still going to fail. There is a light meter, there are measuring boards, and there is a hard 40-inch cutoff.
Episode 450 is our full 24 Hours of Lemons High Plains Raceway preview — and this one is a true 24-hour race. Green flag at noon Saturday, checkers at noon Sunday, running straight through the night on a completely unlit track thirty minutes from the nearest anything. Ninety cars are entered. Chris, Chrissy and Tim are racing it. Mental is one of the four judges who will be holding the light meter.
We cover the race car lighting rules in detail, the complete weekend schedule from Thursday gates to Sunday awards, the weather for Deer Trail, Colorado, night-driving technique for your first race in the dark, and our patented E1R Virtual Track Walk — every corner at High Plains, from three people who've raced it.

This 4,300 lb Chrysler Won Racing's Best Trophy
In this Ford big block stroker episode 449; Chrissy wrecks a riding mower (not on a race track though), Chris was chief judge and makes a bluping exhaust noise, Mental talks about Yoga, I mean Yugo, Tim tried to body build by moving a cast iron stove, and we have Julian on to talk about how the Pacific Raceway.
Fifty cars took the green at Pacific Raceways. Fewer than twenty were still running at the checker. And in two full days of racing, Chris — who was chief judge for the weekend — handed out exactly one severe penalty.
That never happens. Episode 449 is our full 24 Hours of Lemons Pacific Raceways race recap from both sides of the fence: Chris was judging it, and our guest was racing it.
Sometimes-Lemons-judge Julian Cordle brought his family, a 2005 Chrysler 300C, an inflatable polar bear, and fifty pounds of Alaskan reindeer sausage to Kent, Washington — and drove home with the Index of Effluency, the most coveted award in low-buck endurance racing. It's given to the team that has no business finishing and finishes anyway. His car weighs 4,300 pounds empty, runs all-wheel drive, and rides on three-year-old $83 tires.
New here? We do this every week for the world of low-dollar racing and oddball car culture. Hit SUBSCRIBE — we're chasing 1,000 and you clicking that button genuinely matters.
WHAT'S IN THIS EPISODE
Why episode 449 is a Ford FE big block — the engine that beat Ferrari at Le Mans, now available as a 449ci stroker
Bonneville got nine inches of rain the day the land speed car was ready. Nine.
Moving a 450-pound cast iron wood stove with winches, a 6x6, and one badly regretted lower back
A Tesla robotaxi in Austin quoted a 2.3-mile trip at 66 minutes — and another one ended its shift and put a four-time Tesla owner out three miles from home
A 1990 Yugo with 25 miles on it sold for $27,257, and the Petersen Automotive Museum was the underbidder
Arizona lawnmower racing: 80 mph, tethered kill switches, no blades, "How the West Was Mowed"
Heroic Fix: their Fiero blew a clutch, so they bought an entire Mustang that had been sitting in a field for seven years, chased live mice out of it, and raced it
Judge's Choice: a rookie dad, three kids, a 70hp Civic, a blown head gasket in cylinder three, and a YouTube video

Real Monterey Car Week

Real Monterey Car Week
In this Mercedes People carrier Episode 447, Chrissy’s dislocated pinky is Citroen better, Chris drives on some rocks, Mental is drowning in ACVW parts and Tim gets real itchy. Actually we bring on Neal Losey on to talk about Concourse d’Lemons, and why you should go check it out!Forget million-dollar hypercars. The best part of Monterey Car Week might be the cars nobody else would let onto the lawn.Five-time National Effing Champion Neal Losey joins Everyone Racers to take us inside the 2026 Concours d’Lemons, the gloriously disreputable counterpoint to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance—and possibly the purest celebration of weird car culture anywhere. While Pebble Beach is polishing priceless classics, Concours d’Lemons fills the Seaside City Hall lawn with forgotten marques, questionable engineering, tiny cars, enormous drivers, former demolition-derby survivors and automotive decisions that seemed like a good idea at the time.In other words: our people.Neal tells us what it’s actually like inside Concours d’Lemons during Monterey Car Week, including the packed crowds, bizarre awards, Lemons racers, rally cars, kids painting race cars, Buttercup the horse-car becoming a slide, and the Red Fang Chevy wagon arriving the most Lemons way possible: being pushed across the grass because it stopped running. That wagon has an even better ending. After winning an Index of Effluency, becoming a Red Fang tribute car and appearing at Concours, it was sold to a group of excited 22-year-old dairy farmers from Visalia preparing to become brand-new Lemons racers. That right there is why we love this community. But this is Everyone Racers, so before we reach Monterey, things get appropriately weird. We recap the Hell on Wheels Lemons Rally, including a Mitsubishi camper, a 1959 Edsel, an International Harvester, a V8-swapped RX-7, a purple Smart car and two rescue puppies. Chris and Chrissy take an old Range Rover through Colorado, where Chrissy dislocates a pinky mountain biking, Chris performs a field-expedient repair, and they continue hiking because apparently pain is merely advisory.Tim talks Pebble Beach, PGA HOPE, moving to Maine, his ’59 El Camino and the rapidly expanding definition of “garage project.” Mental works on the land-speed VW and Porsche 912. Neal shares the incredible story of his mother’s 1966 Mustang, bought new with six-tenths of a mile and later V8-swapped by her personally. We also hit automotive news, cheap race cars, Honda selling pieces of racing history, a spectacularly expensive Ferrari, terrible car names and the latest opportunity to make financially irresponsible racing decisions.Above all, this episode is about what Neal calls the world around Lemons: weird cars, rallies, racing, ridiculous ideas and people genuinely excited about the things they love.If you’re into 24 Hours of Lemons, amateur endurance racing, low-budget motorsports, DIY race cars, classic cars, Monterey Car Week, weird automotive history or garage-built insanity, you’ve found your people.Because expensive cars are nice. But pure dumb joy is better.Check out Neal’s Radio Shows, Morning Cup & Night Train on Demand here;https://www.kcbx.org/programs-ondemandUber Rich Guy pays too much for a stupid Ferrari (Matt Hardigee @ the Autopian)https://www.theautopian.com/someone-just-spent-40000000-on-the-first-ferrari-luce-ev-because-the-world-makes-no-sense/ Honda Will Sell And Restore Its Iconic Race Cars Through New Heritage Racing Program (Andy Kalmowitz @ Jalopnik)https://www.jalopnik.com/2235518/honda-restore-iconic-race-cars/Naming a New Vehicle Is Way Harder Than You Think (Dan Roth @ The Drive) https://www.thedrive.com/news/naming-a-new-vehicle-is-way-harder-than-you-think-and-experts-still-arent-sure-ford-got-it-rightPGA Reach Foundationhttps://www.pgareach.org/Any VW Rabbit in Stillwater MN for $3k on Racing Junk https://www.racingjunk.com/volkswagen/184812654

Triumph! General Wakemen Problems Couldn't Stop The Charge!
Show notes
Triumph! General Wakemen Problems Couldn't Stop The Charge!
The regular Everyone Racers crew missed the 24 Hours of Lemons race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park—but Uncle Dave was there, and Jeff makes his triumphant return to explain exactly how much trouble two experienced amateur racers can find in one weekend.
In this EVAP episode 446; Mental eats Lamb Chops at an AC/DC concert, Tim drunk finishes 2nd in a golf tourney, but #1 in fun, Chrissy consoles Jeff for a blend line violation and Chris helps Hack Factory win B.
Really we welcome back Uncle Dave and Jeff to discuss the Thompson Race last weekend! BTW, if Jeff had listened last week about the blend line, they would have won.
Yep, episode 446 is the complete Thompson Lemons race recap: test day, tech inspection, race strategy, fast pit stops, questionable traffic, award-winning themes, broken race cars and the relentless phenomenon known as “General Wakeman Problems.”
Dave arrives with his 1986 Toyota Cressida freshly repaired after New Jersey: transmission, clutch, driveshaft, center support bearing, universal joint and a questionable hub. The Cressida develops a vicious one-wheel peel during Friday testing, so Dave adjusts the cross weight until the car finally hooks up, then spends the rest of the day fighting a generator that works perfectly until the sun comes out.
Naturally, Thompson still delivers a torrential downpour.
With only Dave and Jeff driving Saturday’s nine-hour race, the Cressida climbs from roughly 31st to sixth overall. Their reward is a broken cool-shirt system, an accidental fire-extinguisher discharge during a pit stop, Dave taking extinguisher powder directly to the face and a dehydrated Jeff discovering that his drink tube now tastes like fire-suppression chemicals.
Sunday somehow gets better.
An exceptional pit stop puts Jeff back on track during a full-course yellow, where he immediately accepts a friendly wave into traffic and earns a blend-line violation black flag. He recovers, drives the Cressida into the top five and puts the team within reach of a podium.
Then, with approximately 40 minutes remaining, a another car locks its brakes and hits the Cressida’s right-front wheel. Jeff limps the damaged car back with a binding brake, ending their charge toward third place.
But General Wakeman Problems do not respect the checkered flag.
While packing, Jeff crushes his phone in the hatch of his Veloster N, discovers its battery is dead after the hatch stayed open all weekend and drives home unable to restart the car at fuel or meal stops.
We also cover the Thompson award winners and themes, cage-tech lessons, tow-strap rules, aggressive traffic, race results and why a well-built 180-horsepower Toyota can embarrass much faster machinery through consistency and strong pit work.
Elsewhere in Episode 446:
• P0446 EVAP-code misery • Mental’s work on the Project 213 land-speed Ghia • AC/DC with luxury-box lamb chops • Lotus wiring removal and DIY camping batteries • Garage insulation and kitchen remodeling • Competitive yoga at Red Rocks • New Jersey police disguised as shrubbery • Subaru’s attempt to make its cars more fun

Heartbroken, We're Missing Thompson!
Show notes
Heartbroken, We're Missing Thompson!
In this Wildcat 445 Episode, Mental points at the wrong part, Tim can’t identify smoke, Chrissy gushes about ice cream and tells you when to shower while Chris enjoys a tepid tub.
Really, we’re a little heartbroken. Because for the first time in Everyone Racers history, none of us will be at the 24 Hours of Lemons race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, and naturally, the weather forecast looks fantastic.
You’re welcome.
Before the green flag drops in Thompson, Connecticut, we deliver the full race-weekend survival guide: arrival times, test day, BS and tech, the Saturday potluck, strict quiet hours, Sunday’s late start, crowded paddock logistics, trailer drop, fueling, pit vehicles, showers, and why you should leave before the golf course starts launching balls toward the paddock.
Then comes the famous Everyone Racers Virtual Track Walk.
We break down Thompson’s strange combination of road course, oval and changing pavement, including pit out, visual references, passing zones, flag stations, elevation, camber, bumps, surface transitions, traffic management and the corners most likely to punish overconfidence.
Whether you’re a Thompson rookie or have already collected trophies and broken parts there, this is the Thompson Speedway track guide to watch before the race.
More importantly, we provide critical navigation to Bogey’s Ice Cream and Snack Shop: leave the track through the parking lot, continue through the country club parking lot and go around to the back. Bring a bike, scooter or patient teammate, expect a line and respect the enormous portions.
Also, ask the rest of your team whether they want ice cream before returning alone and eating yours in front of them. That is how broken race cars become broken friendships, just ask Chrissy.
Elsewhere in Episode 445:
• Mental prepares a land-speed car with wheel smoothies, Lexan and a drag parachute he may eventually have to deploy himself.
• Tim hauls 2,100 pounds of drywall, prices $4,000 worth of insulation and welcomes his 1941 Lincoln Continental project.
• Chris rewires the Lotus, climbs Colorado fourteeners without enough water and returns to sailboat racing.
• We discuss Flock license-plate-reader failures, Waymo crash data and a Zoox robotaxi that drove into an active fire scene.
• “Show Us Your Junk” brings a BMW 6 Series race-car project, a sorted Saab 9-3 Lemons racer benefiting Ranger Road and charity seats in Paul Dolan’s 1941 Ford for Lemons of Love.
• Listener feedback proves this community can inspire rookie race teams—and turns four podcasters into spaghetti eaters using AI… err…”AL”

Everyone Laughed at This Race Car..(until they drove it)
Show notes
In this C&C-less Packard 443 Episode, Tim drops a turd… off so our buddy Matt can start his next project while Mental hides from the Vegas sun.
Really we talk to our buddy Paul, the creator of the Distilled Racing 41 Ford. What happens when a retired contractor decides that "good enough" isn't nearly crazy enough? Well, He Built the Ultimate LS-Swapped '41 Ford, and it became one of the most talked-about cars in the 24 Hours of Lemons paddock.
... Now he's selling time in the driver's seat, and donating the money.
This week on Everyone Racers, we're joined by Paul Dolan, builder of the legendary 1941 Ford Sedan that's become an icon of grassroots endurance racing. Powered by an LS V8 mounted an incredible 22.5 inches behind the front axle, this handcrafted machine has stunned racers, judges, and spectators everywhere it goes.
But this episode isn't just about horsepower.
Paul shares the incredible story of discovering endurance racing after retirement, designing and building this award-winning car from the ground up, learning the hard lessons of making an endurance racer survive, and finding the community that changed his life.
Even better...
For the 24 Hours of Lemons 20th Anniversary race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Paul is doing something almost unheard of.
Instead of keeping the driver's seat for himself, he's offering seat time in the car to raise money for Lemons of Love, helping families affected by cancer. Every lap supports a cause far bigger than racing. Wanna be a part of it? Reach out to us, we’ll put you in touch.
Along the way we also dive into:
🏁 Building one of the wildest LS-swapped endurance race cars in America
🏁 Why moving an engine behind the front axle completely changes a race car
🏁 Suspension, cooling, transmission and reliability lessons learned after thousands of race miles
🏁 Why the Lemons community keeps bringing racers back
🏁 Private equity buying automotive aftermarket companies
🏁 Waymo's Fourth of July robotaxi traffic disaster
🏁 Racing Junk finds
🏁 Upcoming Lucky Dog and 24 Hours of Lemons races
🏁 Why endurance racing is more about people than lap times
Whether you're into 24 Hours of Lemons, Lucky Dog Racing, ChampCar, NASA HPDE, SCCA, track days, LS swaps, hot rods, grassroots motorsports, race car fabrication, or simply love incredible automotive stories, this episode is for you.
If you've ever dreamed about building your own race car—or wondered why thousands of people willingly spend weekends fixing broken cars with their best friends—you've found your people.

Nick effing Pon!
Show notes
For 20 years, the 24 Hours of Lemons has proven that cheap race cars, questionable engineering, brilliant themes, and terrible decisions make for some of the greatest motorsports in America.
This week we're joined by Nick Pon, Associate Perpetrator of the 24 Hours of Lemons, for one of our favorite interviews ever.
Nick takes us behind the curtain of the 20th Anniversary Laguna Seca race, revealing how nearly 360 teams were narrowed to just 45 invitations, why some legendary cars made the cut while others didn't, how the infamous oil-pan lottery actually worked, and what it really took to convince Laguna Seca to host the biggest celebration in Lemons history.
We also dive into:
🏁 The true origin story of the 24 Hours of Lemons
🏁 The evolution from a joke race into America's premier grassroots endurance racing series
🏁 Why the average Laguna entry dates to 1979 (and why that's perfect)
🏁 Team history vs. outrageous car themes in the selection process
🏁 The legendary cars returning for the anniversary race
🏁 What spectators can expect at Laguna—including FREE admission
🏁 Sound restrictions, technical challenges, and why 90 dB matters
🏁 The possibility of winning Halloween Meets Gasoline...without even racing
🏁 Behind-the-scenes stories you've never heard about organizing a once-in-a-generation endurance race
We also cover this week's automotive news and oddball car culture, including:
🔧 Private equity buying Jiffy Lube—and why that's probably bad news for anyone who doesn't wrench on their own cars.
🔧 Research suggesting driving a manual transmission may actually help keep your brain sharp.
🔧 A bizarre Tesla crash that reminds us why drivers—not technology—are still responsible.
🔧 A genuine IMSA/SCCA Dodge Shelby Charger race car that deserves a second life.
Whether you're a 24 Hours of Lemons racer, Lucky Dog Racing, ChampCar, NASA, SCCA, WRL, AER, or just someone who loves cheap race cars, hilarious paddock stories, grassroots motorsports, and automotive comedy, this episode is packed with history, insider information, and plenty of laughs.
If you've ever wondered:
• How Lemons chooses special-event entries
• Why some cars become legends
• What makes an unforgettable race theme
• What it takes to race at Laguna Seca
• How the 24 Hours of Lemons became the phenomenon it is today

The Road to Laguna
Show notes
The Road to Laguna
In this Willy’s Gasser 441 Episode; Chris rubs his seats, Chrissy sits in a field, Tim eats oysters and while Mental does not break 150, but he also did not get kicked out (again). Really, the crew dives into the upcoming lottery announcement for the 20th anniversary celebration race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca—a once-in-a-generation 24 Hours of LeMons event with an absurdly competitive selection process and massive national interest.
That's right! The countdown is on for one of the most anticipated grassroots racing events ever: the 20th anniversary celebration at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
So the team breaks down everything you need to know about the upcoming race lottery, what it means if you get selected, and what to do if you don’t—because either way, you’re probably still going to California. But this isn’t just about racing. It’s about the journey.
From there, the episode turns into a full-blown cross-country motorsport pilgrimage guide, covering:- Classic racing museums worth detouring for (Peterson, IMS, Henry Ford)- Route 66 nostalgia for cross-country drivers -Copilot strategy, snacks, audiobooks, and keeping drivers alive.
The conversation expands into a survival manual for hauling race cars cross-country, including:
- Trailer safety, sway control, and pre-trip inspections
- Wind zones in the Rockies, desert crossings, and and sketchy mountain passes
- Fuel planning in long empty stretches (New Mexico, Arizona, West Texas)
- GPS towing modes and avoiding trailer-unfriendly roads (PCH warnings)
- Why I-40 might save your sanity vs. the chaos of I-70
- What NOT to do with a race trailer on scenic highways
- How to plan food, sleep, and sanity for multi-day hauls
Finally, they zoom into Laguna Seca logistics and lifestyle planning:
- Camping inside the track (highly recommended, sells out fast)
- Nearby RV parks, hotels in Salinas/Seaside
- Classic Monterey region attractions: Cannery Row, 17-Mile Drive, Carmel, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Route 66 nostalgia connections for inbound travelers
- Why Laguna Seca is a bucket-list track (corkscrew, history, elevation drop, ocean views)
- What to do if you don’t get selected (spectate, Lucky Dog at Chuckwalla, HPDE options)
- Multi-track “racing vacation stacking” (Laguna → Sonoma → Hooked on Driving events)
- Deep-dive travel planning for racers towing across the U.S.It ends with classic Everyone Racers chaos: road trip survival humor, copilot strategy, snacks philosophy, and stories of trackside organization (including the legendary “Chrissy restoring order at Laguna” anecdote).
Whether you're racing, spectating, or just dreaming about it—this is the roadmap to getting there.

Don’t Get Stranded! Essential Trackside Spares.
Show notes
Don’t Get Stranded! Essential Trackside Spares.
Welcome back to Everyone Racers. FUCKING MOPAR 440 EPISODE in which Mental just doesn’t sleep, Tim buys more parts cars, Chrissy chicken likes wooden and fresh eggs, and Chris removes a sunroof. Really, we talk all about spares. Every racer has a story. A wheel bearing that failed without warning. A fuel pump that quit at the worst possible moment. A brake hose that turned a podium run into a parts-store scavenger hunt. Spare parts can save your weekend, what should you get, where to get them, how to keep them, and when to call it.
What’s the one spare part that can save an entire race weekend? We dive deep into one of the least glamorous—but most important—topics in amateur motorsports: the spare parts you should always bring to the track.
Using lessons learned from years of endurance racing, LeMons racing, ChampCar, Lucky Dog, SCCA, NASA, grassroots road racing, rally adventures, and countless trackside repairs, we cover the spare parts strategy that keeps race cars on track and out of the paddock.
We’ve lived through all of it, and in this episode we break down exactly what belongs in your trailer, tow vehicle, paddock box, or race car so you can spend more time racing and less time searching for parts.
In this episode:
🏁 The Mazda hub failure that proved why spares matter
🏁 Wheel bearings, hubs, ball joints, tie rods, CV axles, fuel pumps, brake components, sensors, and other high-value spares
🏁 Why pre-assembled suspension components can save hours during a race
🏁 How to identify the parts most likely to fail on YOUR car
🏁 Consumables every endurance racing team should stock
🏁 Spare wheels, tires, brake pads, rotors, fluids, hoses, fittings, relays, switches, and hardware
🏁 Listener stories about roadside saves, emergency repairs, and race-saving spare parts
🏁 Trackside repair tricks we've used at races across the country
🏁 How to organize and store spares so you can actually find them when disaster strikes
🏁 The difference between carrying too many parts and carrying the right parts
Whether you're building your first race car, preparing for your first 24 Hours of Lemons event, competing in ChampCar, Lucky Dog, SCCA, NASA, Time Trials, endurance racing, autocross, rallycross, track days, or simply taking a project car on a road trip, this episode could save your weekend.
Because sooner or later, something WILL break.
The question is whether you already have the replacement part.
If you enjoy amateur endurance racing, grassroots motorsports, race car tech tips, paddock stories, DIY repairs, budget racing, automotive comedy, and oddball car culture, make sure to subscribe and join the Everyone Racers community.
