2026 Honda CB650R Review: The Truth About Honda’s E-Clutch
Episode 63
Show notes
Is Honda’s new E-Clutch technology cheating, or is it the future of manual riding? Annick takes the 2026 Honda CB650R out for an in-depth, real-world road test. After logging over 1,100 miles through heavy rain, stop-and-go highway traffic, and loose gravel, she breaks down how the E-Clutch actually works, how it stacks up against Honda’s DCT and traditional quickshifters, and whether it’s worth your money.
⚙️ Key Bike Specs & Highlights
• Engine: 649cc liquid-cooled inline-4, four-stroke
• Horsepower: 95 HP stock
• Exhaust Design: Four-into-one header pipe styling
• Curb Weight: 459 lbs with fluids (E-Clutch hardware adds approximately 4.4 to 6.6 lbs)
• Transmission: Standard 6-speed manual foot-shift with automated electronic clutch actuator and manual lever override
• Rider Aids & Electronics: TFT display, ABS, adjustable Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), customizable shift feel (soft/medium/hard), and adjustable shift RPM points (no dedicated preset ride modes)
• MSRP: $9,299 (including destination fee)💡 Key Takeaways from the Ride
• Not a DCT: Unlike Honda’s fully automatic Dual Clutch Transmission, the CB650R still retains a physical clutch lever and requires foot shifting.
• Anti-Stall & Seamless Stops: You can come to a full stop in any gear without touching the clutch lever, and the bike will not stall.
• Instant Manual Override: Pulling the clutch lever immediately returns full manual modulation to the rider; releasing the lever returns the system to automated operation.
• No Stoplight Revving: Because the automated clutch engages directly with throttle input in gear, you cannot blip or rev the throttle at a standstill without propelling the bike forward.🔗 Links & Community

Suzuki GSX-8TT: Neo-Retro Performance Review & Test Ride! 🏍️
On this beautiful, glorious day in Vermont, Annick takes the stunning Suzuki GSX-8TT out for a full walkaround and a spirited test ride! This unique, neo-retro machine blends design cues from the '60s, '70s, and '80s into a modern, head-turning package that appeals to every generation of riders. In this episode, we'll dive deep into its daily street manners, break down its standout design elements, and see if its performance on the winding back roads and open highways lives up to its fierce looks.
📊 Key Specs & Highlights Covered:
The Engine: Powered by the responsive 776cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine (shared with the V-Strom 800 platform but configured for street riding), delivering smooth power at any speed.Underslung Exhaust Done Right: Suzuki nailed the aesthetics by tucking the exhaust underneath the belly pan with a short side pipe and a sleek, decorative stainless steel shield.
Ergonomics & Seat Height: With a 31.9-inch seat height and a narrow tank-to-seat junction, shorter riders (like Annick at 5'2") can confidently touch on the balls of their feet while enjoying a highly comfortable, upright standard stance.
8TT vs. 8T Upgrades: Discover the premium touches that set the TT apart, including custom stitching details, bar-end mirrors, a front quarter fairing, and a plastic lower cowl.
Handling & Suspension: Built with beefy 41mm front forks (non-adjustable), adjustable rear damping/preload, and grippy Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tires on 17-inch wheels.
Highway & Comfort Test: We put the wind-buffeting protection of the quarter fairing and the vibration-dampening capabilities of those large bar-end mirrors to the highway test.

And that is a wrap on an absolutely incredible week at the 10th anniversary of the DirtDaze Adventure Rally! From presenting on the unexpected connections between spoon carving and motorcycling in the Moto Session barn, to testing out new gear from Indie Ridge and catching up with the riders at She ADV, it was a jam-packed adventure.
A massive thank you to Suzuki for bringing out the demo trucks and letting us test-ride their lineup—including the V-Strom 800, V-Strom 800DE, GSX-8TT, and the DRZ4SM—on actual dirt roads, which is a rare treat for a demo day!
The absolute best part of the week was being reminded of how supportive and awesome the motorcycling community truly is. Whether rallying together to help out during breakdowns and crashes, catching up with old friends, or welcoming new riders to the trails, this community always shows up for one another.

Annick provides a detailed review of the 2026 Honda Rebel 1100T, focusing on its capabilities as a touring motorcycle. Annick evaluates the bike’s 1084cc engine, its various riding modes, and the convenience of integrated features like cruise control and hard panniers. A significant portion of the analysis addresses the debate over the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) versus manual shifting. Annick also examines ergonomics, noting that while the low seat height is accessible for shorter riders, the reach to the handlebars and the stiffness of the stock seat may require aftermarket adjustments. Ultimately, the she advises that while the motorcycle is powerful and high-performing, it is better suited for experienced riders rather than beginners.

This episode features a detailed review of the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP, highlighting its technical specifications and real-world performance. Annick emphasizes the bike's 1000cc inline-four engine, noting its 155 horsepower and sophisticated Ohlins and Brembo components. A significant portion of the analysis focuses on the electronic ride modes, specifically how adjusting engine braking and traction control can vastly improve the handling experience. While the motorcycle is praised for its nimble chassis and competitive $11,000 base price, the review also critiques the restrictive stock exhaust and the "clunky" nature of the quick shifter at low speeds. Comparisons are drawn to the smaller CB750 Hornet, concluding that while the 1000cc model is a powerful "bare-knuckle brawler," the lighter sibling remains a more practical choice for daily commuting. Additionally, Annick addresses ergonomics for different riders and the bike's behavior during high-speed highway cruising.

Annick emphasizes that the film is particularly inspiring for motorcyclists during the winter off-season, offering a raw look at the physical and mental toll of long-distance records. The review highlights the bike's ease of riding, nimble handling, and comfortable ergonomics, which she attributes partly to its parallel twin engine and relatively light wet weight of 422 pounds. She contrasts the Hornet with the Honda CB650R, noting that the Hornet is a simpler, more affordable machine at an MSRP of $7,999, making it an attractive option for both novice and experienced riders. The review also touches on the bike’s features, like its digital display, ABS, and quick shift capability, before concluding that it offers great value and fun for the price point, suggesting it is an excellent "blank canvas" for customization.
