  1. 562 – Wild Waits Week (Wildwood and Wild Horse Nine)

    Show notes

This week, all four hosts assemble, but during the daytime to attempt to record a podcast. First, David and Patches report back on the newest Laika stop motion film Wildwood, which is in theaters now and gets the old millennial boys back together again talking about The Decemberists. Then, in the second segment of a two segment podcast, Katey, Da7e, and Patches talk about Wild Horse Nine, the new Martin McDonagh movie starring John Malkovich and and Sam Rockwell as CIA hitmen on vactation in 1973. If you’re wondering what our podcast title is about, both movies feature Tom Waits. *bad-dum-tiss.

This week, three segments, three movies, three hosts. First up, Da7e saw Whalefall which is a movie that probably would have captured more of the adult audience if a certain documentary hadn’t devoured all the buzz at the box office. Then, Katey reports back from Wicker, a sexy romantasy about having relations with a basket man. Finally, all three hosts have see You Can See Everything and can finally talk about it now that the movie is in theaters. Most of the discussion is about the topics the movie brings up in general, so the “spoilers” for the mysterious second half don’t start until 57 and a half minutes into the podcast (there’s a gong for a warning).

This week, everyone is back in the war room so Da7e can go on vacation this weekend. First, everyone politely let’s Da7e refer to his notes on why The Social Reckoning isn’t just bad drama, but nobody should actually see it if they want to understand anything about humans, let alone Facebook or America. Then, Katey and David fill in the other two guys about what’s been going between Kelly Clarkson and the (Magic?) store Art of Play in Brooklyn. Finally, the Amazon Studios movie Love of Your Life is flitting in and out of theaters before going streaming which seems like a shame as the movie might deserve to be seen a little bit more

This week, Da7e was in a theater seeing Wild Horse Nine, but your other three hosts made it to the podcast despite being very sleepy! First, it’s time to talk about this past weekend’s domestic box office winner Verity with Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway. Then, David hasn’t played Zero Company (last week’s episode) but has played Star Wars: Galactic Racer and reports back on the new racing game. Finally: Digger. The final movie released in theaters by an independent Warner Bros studio bombed, let’s talk about it.

This week, David is the one who can’t make the podcast, so Katey and Patches tell Da7e about the new Mahershala Ali hitman movie Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother (it’s not out in Denver yet so Da7e literally can’t see it). Then, Patches has been playing Star Wars: Zero Company and Da7e is deep into the lore and bond farming. Then, Katey and Da7e weigh in on Primetime, a very sweaty very intense Rob Pattinson performance in a movie about 2006’s To Catch A Predator. But, before that, a check in with Matt Patches who has some thoughts about movies and nudes (separate topics) after coming home from France, and some more catch up if you haven’t joined the Fitwarriors in the Vulture Movie League quite yet.

Then, Patches and Da7e debate just how big this game is going to be come November. Then, Katey has a sophisticate question for us about our bed-making habits. This week, we assure you David Ehrlich is returning to this podcast. In a return to some sort of format, you left reviews and sent e-mails but it still takes Katey, Patches, and Da7e a good 20 minutes to get started this week. When they do, Katey and Da7e weigh in on the perfectly cromulent Tony, Da7e wonders what (if anything) his cohosts think of the new X-Men Disney announced at their Disney convention, then Katey fills in the boys on the newest Amblin-throwback dinosaur movie in theaters – The End of Oak Street. Patches sneaks in a stealth Paw Patrol segment.

Matt Patches and Katey Rich were unable to catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters, but Katey shows up to referee a discussion between Davids, one Ehrlich who did not like Brand New Day as much as one Da7e who thought it’s a new kind of Spider-Man installment that points towards some good tidings in Marvel’s immediate future. It’s another Fighting in The War Room Quarter Quell!

For this edition of a FITWR Quarter Quell, each host picked a movie that was released 50 years go in 1976 and was NOT one of the super popular ones (no Network, no Rocky). Katey finally watches the Barbra Streisand/Kris Kristofferson version of A Star is Born, Da7e caught up on a Sherlock Holmes movie he had never seen with The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, Patches picked the final Alfred Hitchcock film called Family Plot, and David exposes his cohosts to In Realm of the Senses .

On this episode, Da7e has questions for Patches about the no-good-very-bad news for the console gaming industry over the past couple of weeks. Then, Katey reports on Minions and Monsters, which sounds fun but is underperforming at the box office. Then, Katey and Da7e talk about The Invite, expanding to more theaters this weekend and though since they disclose the premise the trailer is hinting at, consider it LIGHT SPOILERS, I guess.

This week, it was David’s turn to be felled by solo-parenting, so Katey, Patches, and Da7e convene in the War Room. First, an Instagram post from the art director of surprise hit Obsession intended to spur discussion about profit sharing and her low pay on the movie. For better or for worse, Da7e and Patches leap into that discussion. Then, Da7e and Patches try to explain to Katey how her Zelda-obsessed children are probably going to want to play the Switch 2 Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming this year. Finally, Katey and Patches have really been enjoying Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay and talk about the high points in anticipation of the upcoming season conclusion.

This week, Patches was felled by solo-parenting, so Katey, David, and Da7e make it to the war room. Katey found a puzzling post on threads and Da7e and David try to speculate about just what a “90s Summer” would have actually been. Then, David has since seen Backrooms as have (checks box office numbers) a LOT of you, so Ehrlich gets to throw his thoughts into the endless hallways. Then, in Segment Three, Katey wants to talk about Pressure (which is NOT the one about aliens, Da7e learns) and Da7e wants to talk about I Love Boosters, so they slam them into one segment without pausing for a music break.

This week, everyone is back in the war room and the numbered episodes resume! David, Patches, and Katey took the families to Star Wars: Mandalorian and Grogu, so the show must finally give it a full review. We swear we’re done talking about this movie, David’s son didn’t even want to stay to the end of the movie. Then, Da7e reports from having seen Backrooms and doesn’t spoil anything, if the movie explains anything, and if you know what Backrooms is at all. Finally, Patches has a big overarching question I have decided to summarize as “What’s Wrong with American Dramas?” because that’s a provocative part of it.
