It’s time to unravel everything we currently know about Koschei the Deathless—ACOTAR’s ancient, lake-bound death god who may be poised to become one of the series’ greatest villains. We’re breaking down his mysterious origins, his connection to the Bone Carver and the Weaver, his imprisonment, his powers, his curse on Vassa, and the role he played behind the scenes in A Court of Silver Flames.

We also dive into the Slavic folklore and Firebird ballet inspirations behind his character, including the theory that Koschei’s immortality may be hidden inside Elain’s mysterious onyx box. Plus, we explore the imprisoned swan women, the significance of Made weapons, his strange connection to shadows, and why Elain, Lucien, Azriel, and Vassa could all be central to his eventual defeat.

Consider this your complete Koschei masterclass—full of canon, folklore, Maasverse connections, and plenty of theories about what his story could mean for the future of ACOTAR.

Spoilers for the entire ACOTAR series and minor spoilers for the Throne of Glass and Crescent City series.
