Who We Are: Penn State Hosted By LaVar Arrington With Guest Amanda Gifford "I Love Giving Back." Pt. 2
Show notes
This is “Who We Are: Penn State” — brought to you by the Penn State Alumni Association. A show where distinguished graduates return to share their stories. Where we dig into the moments that shaped them. And where you discover that wearing these colors never really ends. In part two of this episode of WHO WE ARE hosted by LaVar Arrington, Penn State alumnus from 2004, Amanda Gifford Lockwood continues to share her inspiring journey from Penn State student to Emmy-winning ESPN executive. They discuss the winding path from student teaching to a 23-year ESPN career. She shares how Penn State opportunities, relationships, and persistence shaped her work, and offers advice on using college resources, standing out as a creator, and staying connected to the alumni community.
• Lockwood pursued sports media while double majoring in elementary education and journalism at Penn State, then earned an ESPN radio production assistant internship.
• Her 15-week ESPN internship was followed by student teaching third grade in State College; she stayed connected to ESPN through remote work and occasional weekend production shifts.
• She says adapting how you communicate to each individual child taught lessons she still uses with people across the media industry.
• Her advice to students: use Penn State’s Alumni Association, network, professors, and College of Communications facilities.
• For aspiring content creators, she urges finding a distinctive angle that audiences cannot get from countless competing feeds and shows.
• Lockwood describes the Penn State alumni network as a practical career resource, citing recent meetings with Penn State graduates at Augusta National and in college football.
• She discusses Emmy wins for College GameDay, SportsCenter, and SEC on ABC, emphasizing that large production teams share the achievement.
• After 23 years at ESPN, she credits Penn State’s facilities, professors, access, and experiences with helping prepare her for a career she still considers a dream.#2pros #fsr #upongame #upongamepresents

Chris Plank and Arnie Spanier have different opinions on Lamar Jackson’s future
Show notes
Lamar Jackson is done for this season. But is he done for good in Baltimore? Arnie has a strong opinion on what the Ravens should do with the two-time MVP. The Cowboys are in serious trouble, but don’t that to Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott, who refuse to put the blame anywhere it’s truly deserved. And we look at what teams currently own the Top 6 picks in next year’s NFL Draft, led by the Chargers, but dominated by the Jets, who Chris believes has to hire the biggest coaching name possible this offseason .. We talk to FOX Sports Gambling insider Todd Fuhrman in the second hour, then wrap up the third hour reading listener tweets and hearing postgame sound from NFL locker rooms around the country.

Mark Willard and Ephraim Salaam are 100% done with Justin Herbert
Show notes
Just a few years ago, Justin Herbert threw for 5,000 yards. But he’s a shell of his former self this season, having just 5 TDs and 10 INTs through 7 weeks, to go with their embarrassing 0-7 record. It’s time to cut bait before Tuesday’s trade deadline .. And they’re not the only team who should be tanking. The last-place Ravens need to be sellers too, after Lamar Jackson landed himself on the IL, and Mark has several ideas of QBs they should be shopping for, as well as a Jonathan Taylor trade prediction .. The guys give their props to the Golden State Valkyries winning the WNBA title up in Mark’s corner of the world. But the biggest story in the Bay Area is Yaxel Lendeborg’s instant rivalry with Luka Doncic, and we’re 100% here for it .. And finally, in the last hour, we find out “What’s Your Fantasy?” with the guys’ best fantasy efforts of the week.

Aaron Torres and Jason Martin have a lot to unpack in the Big Ten
Show notes
Ohio State went into the day as the #2 team in the country, but after losing at USC, Aaron and Jason say their season is as good as over. Indiana got a miracle win and both Utah and UCLA remain undefeated, leaving the Buckeyes on the outside looking in … Injuries have always been an issue in the NBA, but the guys dedicate the top of the second hour to the ridiculous rash of star players going down for extended times this season … We give love to Ernie Johnson after that, as well as deep dive into the Aikman vs. Buck feud nobody asked for .. And finally, in the final hour, “I Don’t Wanna Overreact, But ….” predicts that Lamar Jackson will never win a Super Bowl and that this week’s Seahawks/Bears game is an NFC Title Game preview.

Martin Weiss and Alex Monaco say the Bears are making a run at the crown
Show notes
Martin and Alex are both strongly in favor of the Bears trading two first-round picks for one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. It’s a move that could catapult them into a championship contender .. Speaking of championships, the Brewers captured their first this week. The guys wonder what it means to the sport that a team with virtually no payroll and only two All Stars can be one of the best teams of all-time .. We find out “Who Needs It More” at the end of the first hour, we pick the right team for all the top players available on the NFL trade market at the end of hour two, then start out the third hour with our Picks of the Week and Atomic Dogs.

Jason Fitz and Buck Reising don’t trust bad teams to make smart draft picks
Show notes
Buck would rather talk about bobbing for disgusting apples or getting HIV from sitting on toiler seats than having to talk about the Titans, which he covers for a living in Nashville, especially after they traded their best player, Jonathan Simmons, this week. Both Buck and Jason don’t believe the Titans to take advantage of all the draft picks they got from the Bears … Buck was also sick to his stomach the entire first hour as his Hoosiers needed a 60-yard field goal at the buzzer to survive against unranked Minnesota. They almost became the highest-ranked team to lose this weekend. Instead, it was Florida, Northwestern, Wisconsin, SMU and Arizona all taking Top 25 L’s.
