Detroit Pistons getting no respect? J.B. Bickerstaff thinks so
Show notes
After the #DetroitPistons lost to the New York Knicks, coach J.B. Bickerstaff came out guns blazing, particularly dwelling on how his team is officiated. Yes, Bickerstaff wasn't thrilled with how his team played in the 111-97 loss to the defending champions, but he couldn't resist pointing out what he thought was a bad whistle. So are the Pistons actually getting a lack of respect? And what are the positives and negatives to take away from the Pistons' first three games? Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor break it down on the Freep Sports Show.

People still don't understand Lions coach Dan Campbell
Show notes
Dan Campbell made another big fourth-down gamble in the Lions' Week 7 win vs. the Packers and while it didn't work out in the moment, the Lions still won because of it. Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor open the Freep Sports Show by discussing Campbell's big risk and why the reaction to it on social media and elsewhere proved most people still truly don't understand the Lions' coach.
Then Shawn and Andrew discuss Michigan football's game vs. Indiana. How did Tommy Carr play in his first start? And is Kyle Whittingham trending towards a one-and-done in Ann Arbor?
All that and more with Shawn and Andrew.

Sam LaPorta is 'all good' if he's not playing for Lions next year
Show notes
It's not every day that an athlete shares how they ACTUALLY feel in 2026, but Lions tight end Sam LaPorta did just that this week. On a recent episode of the popular podcast "Pardon My Take," LaPorta made headlines when discussing his contract, saying in part, "in three months if I don't get to wear the Honolulu Blue and play for the Lions anymore, it's going to be all good. I'll get paid somewhere else."
Did LaPorta sound like a mercenary when he made these comments? And was he right about what he said? Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor debate it on the latest episode of the Freep Sports Show.

Are Lions actually in great spot for Super Bowl? And should Red Wings just trade Dylan Larkin?
Show notes
What can recent history tell us about the Detroit Lions' Super Bowl chances? If the Seahawks, Eagles and Chiefs are any indication, the Lions are in a great spot to contend. Shawn Windsor and Andrew Birkle open the latest episode of the Freep Sports Show by discussing the Lions' position coming off the bye and why Dan Campbell was in a good mood coming off the bye week.
Then, another week, another Dylan Larkin trade Rumor. ESPN's John Buccigross was the latest to make waves, saying he thinks the Red Wings will trade Dylan Larkin in the next seven-to-10 days. Is now the right time to make the move? And should the Wings be looking for picks or a win-now player? Shawn Windsor and Andrew Birkle break it down in the latest episode of the Freep Sports Show.

Did Pistons get any better this offseason? And disaster watch for Michigan football?
Show notes

Then after the break, Michigan football beat writer Tony Garcia joins the show to talk about Michigan's huge game against Penn State. Should we be on "disaster watch" in Ann Arbor with what feels like a make-or-break game against the Nittany Lions?

Is Kelvin Sheppard on hot seat after Lions' defense torn to shreds again?
Show notes
Andrew Birkle and Jared Ramsey were LIVE on the Freep Sports Show recapping the Detroit Lions-Carolina Panthers Week 4 game. What's next for the Lions after the fourth game with little to no progress? Is Kelvin Sheppard on the hot seat?
Plus, the guys answer questions from listeners live, who are fed up after a poor start to the season. That and a lot more on this episode.

ANDY DIRKS on Scott Harris' plan, Detroit Tigers season review, Kevin McGonigle and more
Show notes
Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor are joined by former Tigers outfielder and current Detroit SportsNet analyst Andy Dirks. The guys ask Andy about a frustrating Tigers season, what’s next for Scott Harris and this front office in an important offseason and if Kevin McGonigle was really the most valuable player in the American League after leading in Baseball Reference's "Wins Above Replacement."

Is Jalen Duren-Pistons situation fixable? And is Scott Harris too stubborn for Tigers?
Show notes
Happy Detroit Sports General Manager Day, to all who celebrate! Detroit Tigers president Scott Harris and Detroit Pistons president Trajan Langdon both spoke to the media on Monday for the ending and beginning of their respective seasons.
Shawn and Andrew begin the episode by discussing the 2026 Tigers season that was by all accounts a disappointment. Was Harris too inclined to blame the lack of success on one month? Is he being too stubborn in his approach to not build at all through free agency? Plus, what does the future of Spencer Torkelson and other familiar Tigers look like in a big offseason?
Then, the guys pivot to Detroit Pistons media day with Jalen Duren is still nowhere to be found. As the big man tries to decide if he should take the roughly $200 million contract the Pistons are offering, Shawn and Andrew discuss how a deal still makes sense for both sides, with Shawn pouring water on the idea that the situation is unfixable.

Lions dodge another bullet vs Jets. Are they improving?
Show notes
Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor are back on the Freep Sports Show to recap the Detroit Lions-New York Jets Week 3 game. The Lions had another too-close-for-comfort win, just like Week 1, after the Jets and Geno Smith got hot in the second half. This time, the Lions got a stop on a forced fumble. Is this a sign that they're actually improving, albeit slowly?
Plus, how did the Lions' secondary hold up? Did Dan Campbell outduel his former apprentice, Aaron Glenn? Did Kelvin Sheppard cool some of the pressure he was facing after a historically bad start through two games?
That and a lot more on this episode.

Are Lions actually missing Aaron Glenn more than Ben Johnson?
Show notes
As the conversation about the Detroit Lions' defense reaches a fever pitch, the team's former coordinator, Aaron Glenn, is coming to town with his new squad, the New York Jets. Despite an ugly performance on Thursday Night Football, Dan Campbell and the Lions are still 6.5-point favorites against the Jets and Glenn in the game on Sunday. With Campbell's old protégé coming back to face his old team, Shawn and Andrew debate if the Lions are actually missing Glenn as the defensive coordinator more than Ben Johnson as the Lions' offensive coordinator, despite Johnson's instant success in Chicago.
The guys also talk about general manager Brad Holmes and how the Lions' are feeling the pain of some of their recent front office mistakes.

Chris Ilitch? Dylan Larkin? Steve Yzerman? Who gets blame for Red Wings mess
Show notes
It's been a busy and newsworthy offseason for the Detroit Red Wings, who have seemed to get in their own way one time after another since the 2025-26 season ended. With the Red Wings in the midst of training camp, Free Press beat writer Helene St. James joins the show to discuss the Wings' wild year. Why did Steve Yzerman not work out with the Wings? And what made owner Chris Ilitch wait so long to make a decision? Plus, Helene makes the case for why tanking again is an absolute non-starter for the Wings.

Are the Detroit Lions' problems fixable? Dan Campbell thinks so
Show notes
Andrew Birkle and Shawn Windsor are back with another loaded episode of the Freep Sports Show. Fresh off a trip to Allen Park, Shawn gives an update about what Dan Campbell said at his press conference to start Jets week. Campbell kept a positive tone and indicated he still thinks the Lions' problems are fixable, despite the frustrating start.
Plus, the guys discuss if Kerby Joseph will ever play another game for the Lions after another injury setback and take a look around the NFL at some of the league's biggest storylines this last week, like how the injuries to Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams impacts the Lions.
And last but not least, Shawn and Andrew discuss the big Michigan State vs. Notre Dame game from over the weekend (28:00). Did MSU's performance against the Fighting Irish change your expectations for this year? And based on what we've seen, can the Spartans beat Michigan?
