  1. A Timely Wake Up Call for Michigan Basketball. Everything they need to improve upon. Go Blue Hoops Episode 56

    Episode 56

    Show notes

Michigan Basketball suffered an 83-66 exhibition loss to the Houston Cougars, but should Wolverines fans be concerned? On this episode of Go Blue Hoops, former Michigan basketball star and NBA veteran Tim McCormick breaks down what went wrong against Houston, why the loss could be the perfect wake-up call, and what Michigan must improve before the regular season.

Houston's physical defense, rebounding dominance, and offensive efficiency exposed several areas Michigan needs to address. Tim explains why the Wolverines must become more physical defensively, improve their pick-and-roll coverage, and establish a stronger inside-out offensive identity to compete for a Big Ten championship.

Tim also evaluates the growing expectations surrounding Trey McKinney and Elliot Cadeau, Roddy Gayle Jr.'s encouraging 14-point performance, and the potential impact of Moustapha Thiam. Could Cham become Michigan's most important interior presence this season?

With a deep roster featuring Oscar Goodman, Jalen Reed, Ricky Liburd, and other emerging contributors, Tim examines Michigan's rotation decisions, player development, and the challenges of finding the right combinations in competitive games.

    🏀 IN THIS EPISODE:

Michigan vs. Houston: What the 83-66 exhibition loss revealed about the Wolverines.

Defensive Concerns: Physicality, rebounding, pick-and-roll defense, and improving drop coverage.

Trey McKinney & Elliot Cadeau: Leadership expectations, offensive execution, and Cadeau's foul trouble.

Mustafa Cham's Potential: Why Michigan's talented big man could become a major difference-maker.

Roddy Gayle Jr.: Breaking down his 14-point performance against Houston.

Michigan's Offensive Identity: Why paint touches, ball movement, and smart shot selection matter more than forcing three-pointers.

Rotation & Depth: How Michigan can maximize its talented roster while establishing a reliable nine-man rotation.

Big Ten Championship Outlook: Where Michigan stands against Illinois, UCLA, and Michigan State.

Michigan vs. Oakland Preview: What the Wolverines need to demonstrate against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.

CAN MICHIGAN COMPETE FOR A BIG TEN TITLE?

Despite the exhibition setback, Tim believes Michigan has the talent and depth to compete near the top of the Big Ten and make a run to the Sweet 16. The key will be developing defensive toughness, establishing consistent guard play, and getting the most out of Michigan's frontcourt.

  3. New Era, Same Dominance? Michigan Basketball Makes a Statement vs. Eastern Michigan! Go Blue Hoops!

    Episode 54

    Show notes

Michigan basketball vs Eastern Michigan gave Wolverines fans their first look at a new era as the defending national champions opened the 2026-27 preseason with an impressive 87-62 victory. With Mike Boynton Jr. taking over as head coach, Michigan showed flashes of the offensive firepower, defensive intensity, and depth that could make the Wolverines a serious contender for another national championship.

In this episode of Go Blue Hoops, we break down Michigan's exhibition win over Eastern Michigan, the biggest individual performances, and what this early showing tells us about the Wolverines heading into the new season.

Trey McKenney led Michigan with 21 points, while freshman Quinn Costello made an immediate impact with 16 points and four three-pointers. Elliot Cadeau helped direct the offense, Moustapha Thiam provided a strong defensive presence in the paint, and J.P. Estrella showed his scoring ability as Michigan pulled away in the second half.

But beyond the final score, how different will Michigan basketball look under Mike Boynton Jr.? Can the Wolverines maintain the championship standard established last season? And which players will emerge as the difference-makers in Michigan's pursuit of another Big Ten title and deep NCAA Tournament run?

    In this episode, we discuss:

Michigan basketball's 87-62 exhibition win over Eastern Michigan

Mike Boynton Jr.'s debut and Michigan's new coaching era

Trey McKenney's 21-point performance and offensive leadership

Quinn Costello's impressive debut and three-point shooting

Elliot Cadeau's playmaking and leadership in the backcourt

Moustapha Thiam's defensive impact and rim protection

J.P. Estrella's offensive contributions and frontcourt versatility

Michigan's offensive execution, defensive intensity, and roster depth

What the Wolverines need to improve before the regular season

Whether Michigan has what it takes to defend its national championship

New era, same dominance? Michigan basketball has plenty of new faces, but the expectations in Ann Arbor haven't changed. Go Blue Hoops takes a closer look at what worked, what needs improvement, and why this Wolverines team could be dangerous in the 2026-27 college basketball season.
