What’s Hiding in Your Pets Food? The Contaminants Labels Don’t Show

- Fish-based cat foods can contain more mercury because contamination originates in the fish itself, leading Callen to recommend rotating proteins instead of feeding the same fish-based diet every day.
- Higher price does not necessarily mean cleaner pet food, and Callen says fresh, canned, freeze-dried and dry foods can all contain contaminants depending on their ingredients and sourcing.
