Deep Dive: Dr. Larissa Portnoff and The Congressional Report Detailing Trump's Links to Epstein
Season 3, Episode 302
Show notes
TW: Witness statements detailing SA, child abuse, harassment, and sadistic treatment of women and children.
Previously known as one of many 'Jane Doe' survivors, Dr. Larissa Portnoff, PhD, a clinical psychologist practicing in NYC, went public this week with her statement that Donald Trump abused her in her childhood and made efforts to maintain contact with her through 2025. In response to her request for people to share her story, this pod includes a recording of her statement in her own words. Then, we begin Part 1 of going through a newly released, 53-page report from the U.S. House Judiciary Committee entitled, "We Have Certain Things in Common Jeffrey: The Case Against Donald Trump Emerging in the Epstein Files and DOJ's Desperate Efforts to Cover It Up". The report walks through the history of Trump and Epstein from their 90's era of brazenly targeting girls and young women from modeling agencies and beauty pageants, to their similar coercion and outreach strategies, and 11 statements from Epstein survivors and others who remember the two men's predatory conversations and/or interactions. Part 2 will cover the remaining seven survivor stories that include Katie Johnson and Maria Farmer.

The Murder of Sandra Birchmore
Season 3, Episode 301
Show notes
TW: This pod discusses detailed accounts of grooming, SA, violence, sadism, and allegations of self harm.
The murder of Sandra Birchmore typically centers around her death in February 2021, but the path that led there begins with a childhood program, Explorers, run by the Stoughton Massachusetts police department. This pod goes back to that time, walking alongside that path from 12 years old on. In doing so, demonstrating the insidious and patient nature of a predator grooming a child that results in the victim's attachment, dedication, and persistent hope to please them. With her abuser and alleged killer, Matthew Farwell, currently on trial, understanding how he, and his network of dangerous men, obtained positions of power and control over children is also key. In the end, the real heroes of her story are the friends and family who refused to stay silent after her death, the agencies who listened, and what they revealed as a result.

In episode six, Mary hosts a lunch to heal their rifts and performs a miracle, getting Meredith to apologize. Roasting the Broligarchy: How Starlink Screwed Ukraine, Why Ken Paxton is Terrible, and The Risks of Public Investment Accounts for Kids
Season 3, Episode 299
Show notes
Who restricted vital Starlink satellite access in Ukraine, and why? What's the record for the shortest term of a Press Secretary? How do the new mandatory investment accounts for kids work, what risks do they present, and why is the Annabelle doll there? What's going on with the reflecting pool and other D.C. landmarks? Why is Ken Paxton unfit for public office and arguably one of the worst people to ever run? Why is a tubby, pale poser with daddy issues dedicating more of his inflated wealth to meddling in America's midterms? This pod attempts to answer these questions and more with a comedic take, stack of sources, and lack of tolerance for the patriarchy.

Season 3, Episode 298
Show notes
After a summary of what The Golden Life premier event in NYC was like, we jump back into a Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Recap. The women are still kicking off their San Francisco trip by kicking Ashley Quai when she's down, disarmed by the betrayal of Whitney. Angie confides in Heather that her marriage is struggling and confides to cameras about how bad its been. Heather continues to try to make Triflin' Tripp happen, Brittany grills Bronwyn, and Meredith remains a master of scowling. A trip to a vibrator museum adds some extra spice to a dinner that we already knew was going to go badly, with Lisa's lipliner is the uncredited housewife of this episode. Recap: Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Season 7 E1-3
Season 3, Episode 297
Show notes
Catching up on Season 7 of what is arguably the most entertaining Real Housewives franchise on Bravo for a nice break between deep dives. In the premier, the ladies set their petty differences aside to support Mary in her time of loss and through her decision to remain a cast member alongside women she refers to as family. We also meet Heather's new-old cheater boyfriend and get up to speed on three women currently leaving their sub-par husbands, and one who almost did. Across the episodes, heartfelt moments and hilarity ensue as the group delves into their personal struggles while also bickering about ridiculous perceived offenses. By episode three, we have props, wigs (both costume and incognito), accusations, and tears. It's pure joy. Season 7 is starting off strong.

Deep Dive: The Cornell Gang Rape Seven
Season 3, Episode 296
Show notes
Trigger Warning: Detailed discussion of multiple SA incidents.
In October of 2024, an inebriated 20 year old woman (Jane Doe) was advertised as "free pussy" on a snapchat thread for the Chi Phi fraternity on Cornell's campus. According to her lawsuit, after reporting the incident and providing evidence, her case was never criminally investigated and she was never informed about outcomes beyond a separate Title IX process. This pod reviews that recent lawsuit against fraternity members, the bar who served her when underage, her sorority, and Cornell. Included are statements from her lawyer on how the case was mishandled, articles from campus papers about the school's failures, the history of widely reported sexual abuse at Cornell, and examples of different situations where the university didn't hesitate to expel students.

Books/Movie Review: The Love Hypothesis, Love on The Brain, and Not In Love
Season 3, Episode 295
Show notes
Spoiler alerts are provided but listen at your own risk.
An enemies-to-lovers, dating trope romcom? Yes, please. Having recently read several of Ali Hazelwood's STEM romance series, and just now watching the adaptation of The Love Hypothesis, this pod presents a review of each. It's understood that a movie will never be able to fully capture the nuances and detail provided in a 300+ page book, so the goal here is to critique the film as a stand alone work before comparing it to the book's plotlines. Those comparisons can be subjective, but specific choices did alter the book in a way that fundamentally changed the characters. Whether those changes were good, bad, or inconsequential is up for debate. Then, a quick synopsis and review of two more books I read, Love on the Brain, and Not In Love. While several elements remain constant throughout Ali Hazelwood's books, each one presents different scenarios and struggles that her lovable characters must overcome in order to find happiness. Along the way, witty banter, stellar references, awkward moments, and lots of yearning make for a great read.

Roasting the Broligarchy: Remembering 9/11, Seeing Midterm Stress, and Understanding Gas Grifts
Season 3, Episode 292
Show notes
Twenty five years later, we're still learning more about what happened on 9/11 and the weeks after. Newly uncovered records change the narrative about New York City's lauded leaders and their motivations to, yet again, prioritize money over the good of the people who became heroes in the aftermath of tragedy. That tragic afternoon then became months, years, of toxic clean-up efforts, aided by people who went unknown and unnamed for decades. As families of those who were lost speak out against political indifference and societal bigotry, I remain in awe of their strength and resilience.
With midterms coming up, we also see desperate moves by desperate men who once again squandered their opportunity to improve the country in favor of personal gain. Their choices resulted in the loss of relationships with most of our allies, like Canada. This pod aims to explain what led to that particular loss, and how it will affect our daily lives. Also, a shameless gas grift, why real estate developers aren't peace negotiators, the latest efforts to turn Washington D.C. into a shrine for idiocy, and why bribes for voting a specific way is both unconstitutional and not feasible.

Deep Dive: The Lindsay Clancy Trial - How The Wearable Tech Suggests It Was Her
Season 3, Episode 289
Show notes
*DISCLAIMER: Discussion of violence and murder involving small children
The last two days of the Lindsay Clancy trial have been pivotal. Days 14 and 15 presented data from her iPhone and wearable technology, information about her state of mind, and devastating testimony from her mother. All these factors answered key questions and presented conflicting information from what was previously shared in court. When reviewing her Apple Watch data, it reveals her heartrate monitoring that abruptly ends and consequently presents a timeline where she could have committed the crimes. Then, when considering her mental state as reflected in confirmed iPhone notes, confusing elements fall into place. That new timeline is described, along with the impact of new information, a rant about the prosecutors, and the lingering questions and caveats that remain.
As devastating as that acknowledgment can be, finding out what happened is the entire point of following the trial. What's even clearer is her myriad, desperate attempts to get help and how gravely she was failed.
This is an ongoing trial, currently in progress, that has sparked an important discussion about post partum care and mental health, please see resources listed below for support.

Deep Dive: The Tate Brothers - Detailing Their Connections to the White House and How They Mirror Epstein
Season 3, Episode 286
Show notes
*Trigger warning: Discussion of abuse of women, girls, and children including sex trafficking, SA, DV, and CSAM.*
Who are the Tate brothers and why was their arrest in Miami earlier this month a big deal? What are their connections to the current administration? How have they been able to continue amassing wealth and online attention amidst longstanding allegations of abuse of women and children? How were they able to fly to the U.S. despite a travel ban and while charged with sex trafficking?
This pod walks through the known origins of Andrew and Tristan Tate, two toxic pillars of a hellish grift referred to as the "manosphere", and addresses the questions above. The correlations to Epstein abound, with several familiar names making cameos. We also delve into what young women have stated happened to them at the hands of the Tate brothers, and we review statements the brothers have made that show an ethos, bravado, and ego that seem to blatantly contradict their claims of innocence. What becomes clear, is that the analog era of modelling agencies and referrals Epstein relied on to recruit victims has been replaced with the immediate access social media allows via one quick DM. Understanding modern sex trafficking is vital in any setting, but especially in a country where nothing is being done about abusers revealed from the Epstein files.

Movie & Book Review: Obsession (2025), Yesteryear, and the Shatter Me Series
Season 3, Episode 285
Show notes
After catching up on Salt Lake City divorce drama and the mediocre manosphere that I believe contributed to it, we jump into a review of the psychological "horror" film, Obsession. An instant classic, Obsession tells the story of a cowardly man's choice to put his crush under a spell to love him, rather than muster the courage to express his feelings and accept whatever hers may be. His choice to force his will upon her has devastating consequences for her, for him, and their entire community, but his resolve to have her love him remains. The movie is layered and filled with clues about motivations and messages regarding both the characters and the script. It's a powerful cautionary tale about how quiet, polite, unassuming men can still be dangerous and how narcissism, patriarchy, and fear can warp understanding what love is and isn't.
Then, a review of the book Yesteryear, by Caro Claire Burke, another psychological ride. This one takes you into the mind of a "modern day trad wife" as her commitment to being a perfect, content generating, wife and mother plays out. With a fixation on a life mirroring that of the early frontier and wild west, Natalie, strives to project a specific image and aesthetic. Yet, she hides the unsavory truth of her hard forged reality, perhaps to herself most of all. While the main hook is Natalie suddenly waking up in the early 1800's, the book's observations on centering men, the roles women play to enable that illusion, and the high stakes of religious extremism, are also primary topics.
We close with my plug for a series of books that I've recently discovered, the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. The series begins by introducing a girl named Juliette as she's trapped in an asylum due to her dangerous supernatural powers. From there, it evolves into a dystopian, la resistance, self acceptance, enemies to lovers arc - with a love triangle. I'll do a more thorough review when I finish all the books! Both Yesteryear and Shatter Me are currently being adapted into theatrical releases.

Roasting the Broligarchy: Epstein Dive - Eva Dubin, The Blueprint
Season 3, Episode 284
Show notes
When looking into Jeffrey Epstein's abusive world, Eva Andersson-Dubin appears to be the origin for his delusions that the girls and women he victimized would eventually prosper due to their involvement with him...if they were obedient. Known as his former girlfriend, Eva Dubin stayed in Epstein's life, providing him with the useful expertise of a doctor and seemingly benefitting from his wealth and contacts. Her husband and children had their own relationships with Epstein. He called himself godfather to Eva's children and, as emails and documents show, had a particular interest in her oldest daughter, Celina. In an effort to better understand the nature and depth of these connections, as well as the allegations against the Dubins as levied by Virginia Giuffre and others, we walk through what has been stated by Epstein survivors. Additionally, we look at personal communications via Epstein's email, articles detailing business connections, and from testimony and depositions given as a part of Ghislaine Maxwell's trial.

Recap and Rant: RHORI Reunion Part 2 and Reviewing Propaganda Memes
Season 3, Episode 283
Show notes
It all started so upbeat, a fun recap of the last reunion to dull the senses in a stressful time, taking a moment to enjoy the last episode of a new Real Housewives franchise. Then, opening a thread about JoEllen liking a slew of propaganda memes and being transported back to the harsh, hateful reality of what America has become, at the hands of those who divide us for profit.
Once the menfolk exit the stage, after adding to the conversation and controversy of the season, regrets and hopes are shared amongst the women. The season ends with a customary toast...only for fresh information to hit us via online posts. Between Liz's departure and the discovery of JoEllen and Alicia's online activity, the end of the season suddenly feels both welcome and needed.
"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group." - Coretta Scott King
