  3. Record Turnout in Israel: Voice of the People & Exit Polls Show No Clear Winner| Ep. 891

    Episode 891

    Show notes

Polls have closed in Israel’s first election since October 7th, and the exit polls show no clear winner. Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud is projected as the largest party with 24–25 seats, ahead of Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar! at 21–23. The bloc opposed to Netanyahu edges his bloc, 52–53 seats to 50, but neither side reaches the 61 seats needed to form a government. Arab parties surge to a projected 17–18 seats. Channel 14’s exit poll is the outlier, giving Netanyahu’s bloc 60.

Exit polls are only an early indication, not results. The official count is still underway, and we expect a much clearer picture tomorrow.
In today’s episode, we break down a record-turnout Election Day: complaints to the Central Elections Committee, voting-hour fights, and security incidents. Then Shanna takes to the streets of Tel Aviv to bring you the voice of the people. You’ll hear from voters across the political spectrum right after they cast their ballots, including Nidal, an Arab Israeli fish shop owner from Jaffa.

  8. Bringing Yiddish Back: Daniella Rabbani on New Album "Klezmerette" Ep. 886

    Episode 886

    Show notes

What happens when a Jewish artist uses music to preserve her heritage, confront antisemitism, and pass Jewish joy on to the next generation?

On this episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, host Shanna Fuld sits down with Daniella Rabbani, a singer, actress, and filmmaker whose work spans Yiddish theater, television, film, and Jewish music.

Daniella’s new album, Klezmerette, brings classic Yiddish songs to life through dance tunes, cabaret, folk ballads, and tango. Produced by Grammy winner Joanie Leeds and klezmer clarinetist Michael Winograd, the album reflects Daniella’s two-decade journey with Yiddish music and her determination to keep the language and culture alive.

The granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, Daniella shares how her family’s history shaped her connection to Yiddish, while her Persian Jewish heritage taught her that Jewish identity can encompass many languages, traditions, and backgrounds.

Together, Shanna and Daniella discuss how Jewish music carried people through some of history’s darkest moments, the meaning of “We Will Dance Again” after October 7, and the importance of preserving stories for future generations. Daniella also reflects on rising antisemitism, speaking out as a Jewish artist, and her personal experience of grief and family ties to Israel.

Hear Daniella sing excerpts from classic Yiddish songs, explain the stories behind the music, and share why her latest project is about more than preserving the past: it is about inheriting joy.

    In this episode:

    • The story behind Daniella Rabbani’s album Klezmerette
    • Why Yiddish music survived even during the Holocaust
    • Jewish pride, identity, and rising antisemitism
    • Persian and Ashkenazi Jewish heritage
    • “We Will Dance Again” and the cultural legacy of October 7

  10. “He Was Supposed to Be Home in Hours": Eilat Widow Remembers Her Husband Itamar, 3 Years After October 7th; Israel Daily News; Mon. Oct 5, 2026

    Episode 884

    Show notes

“He was supposed to come back home just a few hours later.”

For this special Israel Daily News October 7 series, Shanna Fuld sits down with Alma Levin-Friedman, a 34-year-old mother of two and PhD student from Eilat whose husband, Major Reservist Itamar Levin-Friedman, was killed fighting in Gaza.

Itamar was a teacher, a reservist, a sniper commander and a member of Lotar Eilat, an IDF counterterrorism unit. On October 7, 2023, he was among the first forces to respond in southern Israel. He spent months serving in the south before repeatedly entering Gaza.

His final mission was his seventh deployment into Gaza.

On November 11, 2024, Itamar was killed by a Hamas sniper. It was the final day of his mission. He was expected to return home to his wife and two young children just hours later.

In this deeply personal conversation, Alma shares what it was like to wake Itamar up on October 7, watch him leave their home in his uniform, and hear him say:

“This is not something small. We are at war.”

She talks about raising their children without their father, preserving his memory, rebuilding a sense of safety for her family, and carrying on the values he believed in.

The interview also features the powerful words Itamar wrote for his students about October 7 and the responsibility of reservists who leave behind their families, jobs and ordinary lives to defend Israel.

His message was ultimately about more than military service. It was a call for Israeli society to remain united, respectful and compassionate—and to be worthy of the sacrifices made by those who serve.

Alma also discusses the community of Israeli widows and orphans created by the war, her ongoing PhD studies in sociology, and the challenges of rebuilding a life while the war itself continues.

As Israel approaches another election, Alma explains what she believes Itamar would have wanted for the country: a society where people with different political views can stand together, serve together and feel that they all have a place.

This is the story of one family, but also a conversation about loss, resilience, motherhood, military service, Israeli society and what it means to keep living after October 7.

Watch, listen and remember Itamar Levin-Friedman.

  11. Israelis Stop Hijacking and Land Plane in Saudi Arabia& Israel Daily News; Thu. Oct 1, 2026

    Episode 935

    Show notes

Israeli passengers are being hailed as heroes after stopping an attempted plane hijacking on a flydubai flight carrying 174 passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

According to the report, the co-pilot allegedly attacked and repeatedly stabbed the captain before attempting to take control of the aircraft. The plane then plunged more than 4,000 meters — roughly 13,000 feet — in about one minute.

Israeli passengers and off-duty pilots rushed into the cockpit and restrained the attacker. One passenger, Yaniv Hayun, helped pull the aircraft's nose up, while dentist Dr. Shota Musayev treated the wounded captain throughout the emergency.

The plane was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, before the passengers were eventually flown back to Israel. Four passengers are being recommended for Israel's Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism.

The episode also covers President Trump's rejection of Iran's proposed broader deal involving the Strait of Hormuz, the reported possibility of renewed U.S. strikes on Iran, the death of a Hamas terrorist connected to the kidnapping of Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or on October 7, and a new report alleging that a Houthi weapons cell used Anthropic's Claude AI to develop missile guidance software.

  13. Aoun and Macron Meet in Paris Over Lebanon's Future as Israel Confirms Hamas Rafah Commander Killed; Election Petition War Escalates; Thu. Sep 17, 2026

    Episode 879

    Show notes

Lebanon’s future is at the center of a major diplomatic push as President Joseph Aoun meets French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Paris. The talks come as Israel and Lebanon explore a possible security framework, including what could eventually replace UNIFIL in southern Lebanon.

In this episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, Shana Fuld breaks down the history behind the Israel-Lebanon conflict and explains why UNIFIL has remained in southern Lebanon for nearly 50 years.

The discussion covers the origins of UNIFIL, the PLO’s presence in southern Lebanon, Israel’s 1978 and 1982 operations, Hezbollah’s emergence, and the aftermath of the Second Lebanon War.

Shana also explains the current proposal being discussed: Israeli forces could withdraw as the Lebanese military moves into southern Lebanon and Hezbollah is disarmed. But Israel says the Lebanese army must prove it can actually remove Hezbollah from the area before an Israeli withdrawal can take place.

    The episode also covers:

    🇺🇳 The future of UNIFIL

  14. Iran's Nuclear Chief Skips Vienna as Netanyahu's Likud Moves to Ban Arab Parties; Trump Shrugs Off China-Iran Intel Report; Mon. Sep 14, 2026

    Episode 878

    Show notes

Iranian pressure, the Strait of Hormuz, Houthi attacks, Israel's political tensions, Fauda's depiction of October 7, and a powerful Rosh Hashanah story from a freed hostage.

On today's episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, Shanna Fuld brings you the latest developments across Israel and the Middle East.

Iran is accusing the United States and Austria of blocking its nuclear delegation from attending the International Atomic Energy Agency conference in Vienna, as the diplomatic relationship between Washington and Tehran remains deeply strained.

We also look at reports of Chinese intelligence sharing with Iran ahead of an Iranian missile strike on a U.S. base in Jordan, as President Trump prepares to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House.

In Gaza, President Trump says Hamas is willing to give up its weapons, while Israel continues to insist that Hamas must disarm. The ceasefire remains fragile, with Israel and Hamas offering competing accounts of the situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, Iran-backed Houthi forces continue attacking Saudi Arabia. With the Houthis controlling key territory along Yemen's Red Sea coast and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz dramatically reduced, the security of regional energy and shipping routes remains a major concern.

We also examine the Israeli political debate over whether Arab-majority parties Ra'am and the Joint List should be barred from running in the upcoming October 27 election, including the legal history surrounding previous attempts to disqualify political parties.

Then, a major cultural story: the fifth season of Fauda has drawn international attention for its dramatization of the October 7 massacre. The episodes have sparked strong reactions from viewers around the world, while the series' Israeli cast and production team have personal connections to the war.

And we end with a powerful Rosh Hashanah story.

Israel has reached its first Rosh Hashanah since October 7, 2023 without a hostage remaining in Gaza. Freed hostage Matan Angrest, who spent 738 days in Hamas captivity, returned home from a five-month trip through South America so he could celebrate the holiday with his family.

His story is a reminder of what freedom means after years of captivity—and why being together with family during the holidays can carry a significance that is difficult to put into words.

    In this episode:

    • Iran's dispute with the IAEA and Austria
    • U.S.-Iran tensions and China's alleged intelligence connection
    • Trump's Gaza ceasefire efforts
    • Israel's position on Hamas disarmament
    • Ra'am, the Joint List and Israel's upcoming election

Israel says it is prepared to respond decisively if Iran attacks during the upcoming holiday season, while the region continues to experience heightened tensions. We also discuss Israel's decision to release five Lebanese prisoners as a goodwill gesture and the possibility of a historic shift in Israel-Lebanon relations.

In Israeli politics, a new poll shows the race between Netanyahu's coalition and the opposition tightening, with both blocs currently struggling to reach the 61 seats needed to form a government.

The episode also examines continuing tensions in Judea and Samaria, including settler violence and clashes in Al-Mughayyir, as well as President Herzog's comments regarding the difficulty of bringing perpetrators to justice.

The episode features highlights from a Sunset Series event with Iran scholar Professor Meir Litvak, who discussed Iran's internal water crisis, brain drain, aging population, and the possibility that internal societal pressure could ultimately pose a greater threat to the Iranian regime than military strikes.

We also preview the upcoming Jewish Women Changing the World panel and the HER Tel Aviv Festival.

The episode concludes with a Torah thought from Rabbi Yosi Madvig exploring the seventh Haftarah of consolation, God's relationship with humanity in times of suffering, and the meaning of divine mercy as we approach Rosh Hashanah.

  17. U.S. Strikes Iran Now that MOU is Out & Israel Daily News: Mon, Aug 31, 2026 Ep. 875

    Episode 932

    Show notes

The 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding has expired — and the United States is taking military action.

In today's episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, Shana Fuld breaks down the latest escalation after American forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, following reports that the IRGC was preparing to target shipping lanes. Iran is now threatening to respond.

With the Strait of Hormuz effectively shut for business and Iran's economy under growing pressure, what comes next for the U.S., Iran, Israel, and the wider region?

Shana also examines the growing political battle inside Israel ahead of the October 27th election, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's concerns over Ofer Winter's new People of Israel party and the latest polling showing Netanyahu's coalition below the 61-seat threshold needed to form a government.

The episode also covers growing tensions over Haredi military service after 16 Givati Brigade soldiers refused to board an armored vehicle because a female paramedic was onboard, the ongoing debate over religious accommodations in the IDF, and the political battle over Haredi enlistment.

Shana marks two years since the IDF recovered the bodies of six hostages murdered by Hamas: Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Ori Danino, Alex Lubnov, and Almog Sarusi. She reflects on their lives, their families, and the impact their deaths had on Israel and the world.

The episode also examines rising settler violence in the West Bank, concerns raised by senior IDF officials about Palestinian retaliation, the controversy surrounding Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount, and the vandalism of a Reform synagogue in Jerusalem.

And on a more positive note, Israel has scored another major achievement in the defense industry, signing its largest-ever defense export deal — a $3.5 billion agreement with Greece for a comprehensive missile-defense system known as the "Achilles Shield."

  18. Dolly Parton’s Library Idea Reaches Israel & Israel Daily News; Thu. Aug 27, 2026

    Episode 874

    Show notes

An IDF social media video appeared to advise ultra-Orthodox Israelis facing military draft enforcement on how to avoid arrest at Ben Gurion Airport — and it was quickly deleted. In this episode of Israel Daily News, Shanna Fuld breaks down the controversy surrounding the now-deleted IDF video ahead of the annual Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman, Ukraine.

The video reportedly used an AI character called “Dudy the Explainer” to explain how draft evaders could avoid being detained at the airport. The controversy comes as Israel's long-running battle over Haredi military service intensifies and new legislation has left some pilgrimage-bound Israelis facing draft-evader status.

Shanna also examines the growing security tensions in Judea and Samaria, including the strategic significance of the proposed E1 settlement expansion, British pressure over Israeli settlements, and warnings about settler violence.

Meanwhile, election season is heating up. Gadi Eisenkot is calling a two-state solution “delusional” following October 7th while simultaneously criticizing the E1 expansion as a strategic mistake. He also takes aim at Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir over settler violence.

The episode also looks back at the 2014 Gaza war, including reports of secret direct back-channel contacts between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas through intermediary Shlomi Fogel — contacts that Netanyahu's office and Fogel have denied.

Plus, Shanna speaks about Tal Goldstein-Almog, a young survivor of Hamas captivity, and highlights his interview with Australian journalist Erin Molan. And in a cultural tribute, Shanna remembers Dolly Parton and the extraordinary impact of her Imagination Library, including its connection to PJ Library and Israel's Sifriyat Pijama program. The episode also remembers Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, including her acclaimed 2021 exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Finally, Rabbi Yossi Madvig explores this week's Torah portion, Ki Tavo, discussing light and darkness, the Messianic era, and the difference between the afterlife and the “world to come.”

    In this episode:

    • Why the IDF deleted the video

    • The Haredi military draft crisis

Iran’s 60-day window with the United States has expired — and there is still no diplomatic breakthrough.

In today's Israel Daily News, Shana Fuld breaks down the latest developments across Israel, Iran, and the region, including reports that Tehran used the 60-day period to expand missile and drone production and strengthen coordination with its proxy forces in Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon.

The Trump administration is now pushing what it calls an “economic D-Day” against Iran, targeting the country's oil exports, banking system, and foreign trade networks. Iran's currency has fallen to a record low, while tensions continue to rise across the region.

Meanwhile, Israel's domestic political battle is intensifying ahead of the October 27 election.

Ultra-Orthodox protesters blocked Highway 4 near Bnei Brak following the arrest of a yeshiva student who failed to report for his IDF draft summons. The Haredi draft exemption debate has become one of the defining political issues in Israel, with coalition parties pushing new legislation while critics argue that all Israelis should share the burden of military service.

Shana also breaks down Netanyahu's warning to right-wing voters about smaller parties potentially failing to cross the electoral threshold — and why reaching 61 seats is so important for forming a government.

    Plus, a major historical discovery:

Divers have located the wreck of the Altalena, the ship at the center of one of the most painful episodes in Israel's early history.

The ship, carrying weapons, fighters, and immigrants, arrived in Israel in 1948 and became the center of a confrontation between David Ben-Gurion's government and Menachem Begin's Irgun. When the IDF opened fire on the ship, Begin ordered his fighters not to retaliate in order to prevent a civil war.

Now, decades later, the wreck has been located intact roughly 500 meters underwater off the coast of Tel Aviv.
