    Season 16, Episode 1488

    Show notes

Tony and Chris catch up on the Jeep Talk Show about why people still want a Jeep even when gas prices and sales numbers make it tough, how the community and mods keep the love going, and real-world use of a Gladiator. They talk through fixing a vibration on a TJ with a cheap Amazon driveshaft, why a Jeep feels like a superpower in floods or tight spots, and the ongoing install of a Wolfbox G900 Pro tri-camera mirror on Tony's Gladiator, including the front nose cam for trail visibility, sentry mode, and practical mounting notes. Chris also shares how the R/Thair Camper has worked out on his Gladiator for camping without the cost of a traditional setup.

    Show notes

On this episode of the Jeep Talk Show, Tony and Josh dig into the massive 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator fire risk recall tied to the electric hydraulic power steering pump connector that can overheat even when the vehicle is parked. They break down NHTSA 26V363 and FCA campaign 21D, what the roughly one-hour inspection and possible harness or pump replacement actually involve, and how owners should prep before heading to the dealer. The conversation also covers the final 12 for 12 Switchback edition with its fluorescent green accents and head-scratching H1 badging, plus wild talk about Tesla Roadster cold thrusters and how 10,000 PSI compressed air tech could show up on the trail.

  6. Ram Outsold Jeep This Quarter. First Time in Years

    Season 16, Episode 1481

    Show notes

Stellantis is not going out of business. The clickbait title said Jeep and Ram were done, and the numbers underneath it are the part worth arguing about. Stellantis posted a full-year 2025 net loss of 22.3 billion, mostly from writing down electric vehicle plans after demand came in lower than expected. Jeep was down about 20 percent in the third quarter and about 8 percent for the year. Ram was up about 29 percent for the quarter, roughly 20 percent year to date, and outsold Jeep for the quarter for the first time in years. Jeep still leads the year, but only by roughly 45,000 units.

    Timestamps

    • 00:00 – Stellantis net loss, EV write‑downs, and clickbait hype
    • 02:53 – Pacific Northwest reflections on environment, off‑road life, and Jeep passion
    • 04:38 – Political distrust, AI watchdog ideas, and Jeep vs RAM sales analysis
    • 08:19 – Jeep sales decline, RAM outpaces Jeep, and round‑table movie night
    • 14:45 – Predicting RAM to overtake Jeep by year‑end
    • 17:05 – Sales outlook, Jeep perception, and design quirks discussion
    • 18:04 – Self‑driving technology overview and personal skepticism
    • 21:04 – Commuter traffic frustrations and alternative route strategies
    • 24:08 – Advocating full self‑driving and hybrid powertrain concepts
    • 33:35 – Hybrid and diesel‑generator powertrain ideas
    • 35:04 – Critique of driver‑assist tech and human reliance

    • 50:55 – Patreon promotion and Nicky G sign‑off
    • 51:45 – Nicky G cameo and episode wrap‑up
    • 53:57 – Legal disclaimer and final remarks

    Key Highlights

    • Third-quarter 2026 Stellantis volume was essentially flat at 324,270 units, about 600 fewer than the same quarter last year.
    • Josh's read is that Ram takes the year-to-date lead by December. He calls it a feeling, not a fact, and says do not buy stock off this conversation.
    • Tony's case for full self-driving on a Jeep or Ram: a chauffeur for $99 a month, cameras instead of Waymo's lidar pods, and no requirement that the truck be an EV. Off-road stays hands-on.
    • Josh was out a couple of weeks with a lung infection and a jaw abscess that ruptured. Tony had a non-melanoma skin cancer cut off his wrist the day before this recording, about an inch long and half an inch wide. The line from the dermatologist: if a sore does not heal in 30 days, get it looked at.
    • Unverified, and labeled that way on the show: Flock cameras may be reading plates plus Bluetooth, phones, and TPMS. Nicky G still closes it. The bread factory bit is intact.

Like the video if the sales gap is the part you came for. Comment with this: do you buy Josh's bet that Ram passes Jeep by year end, or is the 45,000-unit lead still enough? Subscribe for the next round. Full episodes and the contact page are at jeeptalkshow.com.

  9. She Built Rebelle — Then Can't Race It

    Season 16, Episode 1477

    Show notes

Emily Off-Road joins the Jeep Talk Show to talk about founding the Rebel Rally, why a long women's-only endurance event had to be bold and raw, and how course design, strategy, and firsthand competition shape every mile. She explains the third-day breaking point, why she skipped a saturated men's racing space, and how rented stock Wranglers helped prove unmodified Jeeps can succeed. Hear about her Morocco CARTA run, mini expeditions, the Trinity Road Rally, and why a Jeep Rubicon still wins the campfire "do-it-all" vote.

  18. Red Jeep Found After 1 Year Missing + California Tire Ban

    Season 16, Episode 1468

    Show notes

Jeep Talk Show – Tragic Oregon Jeep Discovery, California's Tire Ban (2029/2033), Shopping Cart Roundtable & More

Well hey Jeepers, welcome back to another jam-packed episode of the Jeep Talk Show with Tony and Josh. We open on a somber note with the recent discovery of a crashed 2005 red Jeep Wrangler off Highway 6 in Oregon's Tillamook area. Loggers/ODF personnel found the vehicle (linked to a September 2025 missing persons case out of Beaverton) along with skeletal remains believed to be those of Eddie Hair (Hare) and Scott Smith, both in their late 60s. Official identification is pending (dental records/personal effects), but the registration and circumstances point strongly to the two men who never returned from an outdoor/wheeling trip. We discuss the tragic accident angle, the "red Jeep curse" running joke since 2020, and some classic banter about James Dean and why red Jeeps seem to stick in people's memories.

Then we dive deep into California's brand-new Replacement Tire Efficiency Program (approved by the CEC in mid-August 2026). Starting with tires manufactured on or after January 1, 2029, replacement passenger and light-truck tires sold in California must meet a maximum rolling resistance of roughly 9.0–9.1 N/kN (with a minimum wet-grip requirement). Phase 2 tightens it further to about 7.1–7.2 N/kN beginning January 1, 2033. Industry estimates suggest this could eliminate ~70% of current tire models from California shelves.

Listener voicemails follow (including DR in Utah checking in after a long absence and sharing updates on the Jeep Scrambler/IFS talk plus personal notes, and Nicky G with a string of classic dad jokes).

Then it's Round Table time: When (and why) do you put the shopping cart/basket/buggy back? Tony fires off a rant about free labor and shaming stickers; the crew (Glenn, John Lee, Rick, Bob, Travis and others) share honest takes ranging from "always, respect/karma/old-school raising" to "only if it's right next to me—I'm not working for the store." Robots, Walmart in-home delivery, and future trail-side parts robots even make an appearance.

We close the "F*CK You, You F*CK" segment with a heated takedown of drivers who come to a near-complete stop to turn into a strip-mall, Burger King, or driveway—white-knuckle, wedding-cake-in-the-trunk style. Pit maneuvers and cow-catcher fantasies ensue.

  19. Tom Zielinski Interview: Detroit 4Fest 2026, Tread Lightly & Moab Secrets

    Season 16, Episode 1467

    Show notes

Welcome back to the Jeep Talk Show! In this episode, Tony sits down with Tom Zielinski — lifelong off-roader, event creator and operator, Tread Lightly! board member, former racer, and one of the most connected people in the off-road and automotive event world.

Tom shares stories from the "alleged" early days of sneaking into gravel pits, the motivation behind serving on the Tread Lightly board, why he still rides the bumper a little too close on the trail, and how Detroit traffic and Houston Beltway driving shaped his need for speed. They talk V8 Gladiator dreams, meeting at Easter Jeep Safari, the magic (and occasional chaos) of Moab, and why new people at EJS come away wide-eyed.

Tom also opens up about appearing on the Automotive Advantage podcast with Dr. Jamie Meyer and Justin Chesler, how he builds real industry relationships ("be in the mix every day, don't be an idiot, follow through"), the origin story of his events (born from dealership sponsorship frustration and a bit of youthful guilt), and the importance of Off-Road 101 education.

    Key Highlights

    • Tom's path from power-sports dealerships and mentors to creating major events
    • Why Holly Oaks works so well and how new Jeepers become "one of us"
    • Tread Lightly, trail stewardship, and the difference between appropriate "shenanigans" and damaging public lands
    • The heartwarming side of guiding first-timers and industry newcomers at Moab and 4Fest
    • Real talk on building contacts, saying yes (sometimes too often), and staying behind the curtain while delivering

    Season 16, Episode 1466

    Show notes

Jeep Talk Show – Tire Tread Depth Reality Check + How to Properly Tow Your Jeep (XJ, JK, JL, JT & Gladiator)

Tony and Josh are back with another no-BS episode. We start by correcting the record on tire tread depth after some listener pushback, then dig deep into the right (and wrong) ways to tow a Jeep so you don't melt your transfer case or destroy your drivetrain. After that Tony shows off a pile of new website tools he's built for the community — Jeep of the Week, networked show timer, JTS Honor Badge generator, live chat, Best Of archive, Discord discount codes, and more.

    Key Takeaways

    • Legal minimum tread in most U.S. states (including Texas) is 2/32". The widely recommended replacement point for everyday/wet driving is 4/32". Many shops and safety groups push 5–6/32" for trucks, SUVs, and wet/snow climates.
    • Safest way to tow any Jeep (TJ/YJ/JK/JL/JT/Gladiator): all four wheels off the ground (flatbed or wheel-lift + front dolly).
    • Minimum setup if you must two-wheel tow: transfer case in Neutral, automatic transmission in Park (or manual in gear), steering unlocked, parking brake off, lockers unlocked. For longer distances, remove driveshafts.
    • Atlas transfer cases have distance limits when flat-towed — pull the shafts if you're going far.
