Votann Ironkin | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 82
Show notes
In our Warhammer 40K lore dive episode 82, we explore the Ironkin of the Leagues of Votann, fully sentient mechanical beings who live as equals alongside their flesh-and-blood Kin. Created by the ancient Votann Ancestor Cores, these artificial intelligences are not servants or disposable machines, but valued members of their Kindreds, possessing individual identities, personalities and a shared ancestral heritage. We examine their origins, unique Cerebral Units and specialised roles, from industrious miners and Warp-navigating Wayfinders to heavily armoured Steeljacks and brilliant Memnyr Strategists. Along the way, we uncover the increasingly troubling decline of the Ancestor Cores, the mystery of why fewer Ironkin are being created, and the extraordinary contrast between Kin society and the Imperium, where such independent machine intelligence is condemned as heresy.

Inquisitorial Factions | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 81
Show notes
In our Warhammer 40K lore dive episode 81, we explore the Puritan and Radical factions of the Imperial Inquisition, uncovering the bitter ideological divisions within the Imperium’s most powerful and secretive organisation. We examine the Puritan philosophies of the Amalathians, Monodominants and Thorians, who seek to preserve Imperial order, eradicate corruption or bring about the Emperor’s rebirth, before turning to the Radicals who believe that forbidden knowledge, Chaos itself and even rebellion can be weapons in Humanity’s defence. From the daemon-binding Xanthites and resurrectionist Horusians to the reformist Recongregators and warmongering Istvaanians, we explore the dangerous beliefs that drive Inquisitors into conflict with one another. Along the way, figures such as Gregor Eisenhorn reveal how easily conviction can become obsession, raising the central question at the heart of the Inquisition: how far can an Inquisitor go to save Humanity before becoming the very enemy they swore to destroy?

The Blood Pact | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 80
Show notes
In our Warhammer 40K lore dive episode 80, we explore the Blood Pact, the terrifying Khornate army that proves devotion to the Blood God does not have to mean mindless berserk fury. Forged from the warrior cults of the Sabbat Worlds and bound personally to Urlock Gaur, the Blood Pact combines fanaticism with discipline, logistics, communications and sophisticated combined-arms warfare. We examine its distinctive grotesque masks and blood-red uniforms, its hierarchy of Etogaurs, Damogaurs and Sirdars, and specialist forces ranging from Death Brigades and Gore Mages to Loxatl mercenaries, Chaos Space Marines and daemonic war engines. Across battles such as Belshiir Binary, Phantine and Jago, the Pact repeatedly demonstrates an unsettling ability to learn from Imperial doctrine and turn it against its creators. Ultimately, its greatest threat is not simply brutality, but organisation.

Catachan Jungle Fighters | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 79
Show notes
In our Warhammer 40K lore dive episode 79, we explore the Catachan Jungle Fighters, the legendary Astra Militarum regiments forged on one of the Imperium’s deadliest Death Worlds. We discover how simply surviving childhood on Catachan produces exceptional soldiers skilled in tracking, infiltration, fieldcraft and close-quarters warfare, and how strong family bonds create a fiercely independent military culture where authority must be earned rather than merely imposed. We examine their distinctive weapons, Devil Squads, snipers, sappers and Scout Sentinels, alongside legendary warriors such as Colonel “Iron Hand” Straken, Gunnery Sergeant Harker and the almost mythical Sly Marbo. Most importantly, we explore the Catachan approach to warfare: patiently studying the battlefield, manipulating enemy movement and transforming terrain itself into a weapon.

We examine its role in preserving Aeldari knowledge lost during the Fall, its carefully controlled dealings with exceptional Imperial agents such as Inquisitor Czevak, and the dangerous secrets that make it both an invaluable weapon against Chaos and a potential source of catastrophe. At the heart of the story stands Ahzek Ahriman, whose millennia-long obsession has brought the Thousand Sons perilously close to penetrating its defences.

Tau First Sphere of Expansion | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 76
Show notes
In our Warhammer 40K lore dive episode 76, we explore the First Sphere of T’au Expansion, the centuries-long Great Expansion that transformed a recently unified species into an interstellar empire. Driven by the Greater Good and coordinated through the caste system, the T’au established their first colonies and seven new Septs, developing distinct centres of military power, science, industry and diplomacy. We follow their earliest encounters with alien peoples, including the tragic Poctroon, the psychic Nicassar and the Kroot, whose alliance was forged through a shared war against the Orks. Those same Orks would teach the young empire a harsher lesson, as failed diplomacy gave way to the Campaign of Cleansing and the realisation that some peoples would be conquered rather than persuaded. Ultimately, the First Sphere ended not through defeat but through success: the empire had expanded beyond the practical limits of its ships and population, leaving the T’au searching for new technology that could carry the Greater Good still farther across the stars.

Infamous Genestealer Cults | Warhammer 40K Lore
Season 1, Episode 72
Show notes

From there, we examine the fanatical Pauper Princes, whose downtrodden followers embrace martyrdom in service to their alien "Star Children," and the militarised Hivecult, masters of infiltrating the Astra Militarum and turning the Imperium's own armies against themselves.
