Legends Lookback

The Wraiths have arrived! In this episode we discuss Aaron Allston’s Wraith Squadron, the story of Wedge Antilles assembling a squadron of damaged, dangerous, and deeply weird misfits for the New Republic’s most unconventional missions. We talk characters, covert operations, Allston’s unique blend of humor and heartbreak, and why Wraith Squadron works so well as a team. And, naturally, we ask some questions that the New Republic probably wishes we hadn’t.

We're back from our summer break and ready to usher in a new season of Star Wars Legends content! This week we catch up on the news, acquisitions, life changes, and put our EU knowledge to the test—but the results were NOT what we expected. . .

The Youtini team gathered for a company retreat in Charolette, North Carolina where we had the awesome opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been, plan for the future, and celebrate the galaxy we all know and love. In this special episode, Jared is joined by a menagerie of characters from the Youtini Expanded Universe for a couple of unhinged segments—Stump the Legends Newbie and Hot Takes (Legends Edition). Who had the spiciest take of the episode? Let us know in the comments!

May the Fourth be with you! In this special Star Wars Day episode, the Legends Lookback crew kicks off our Legends Hall of Fame: Mount Rushmore Edition, where we celebrate the very best (and most chaotic) characters from across the Expanded Universe. From legendary Jedi and Sith to underrated favorites and wildly divisive figures, we nominate, debate, and occasionally spiral into complete nonsense. It’s a mix of nostalgia, humor, and passionate fandom as we honor the characters who defined Star Wars Legends.

This week, we’re taking a break from book roundtables for a chaotic deep dive into the emotional baggage of a galaxy far, far away. In “Therapy Time with Rick,” we put iconic Legends characters like Mara Jade, Jacen Solo, and Darth Revan on the couch to unpack their trauma, questionable coping mechanisms, and wildly unorthodox paths to healing. Along the way, we debate the best (and worst) interventions and attempt to answer the ultimate question: could a little therapy have saved the galaxy? It’s insightful, ridiculous, and just unstable enough to require professional supervision.JOIN OUR COMMUNITY▶ Website https://www.youtini.com▶ Discord https://www.youtini.com/discord▶ X https://x.com/LegendsLookback▶ We’re on Instagram▶ Legends Lookback Email | legendslookback@gmail.com▶Newsletter — https://youtini-dispatch.beehiiv.com/subscribeFIND MORE EPISODES▶Find our back catalog of episode at the Youtini Vault▶Find us on Spotify▶We’re back on YouTube!

This week we’re diving into Maul: Lockdown—a brutal, high-octane story that drops Darth Maul into a gladiator prison where survival is optional and chaos is guaranteed. As Maul goes undercover to track down a deadly superweapon for Darth Sidious, he battles through inmates, crime lords like Jabba the Hutt, and some truly nightmare-fuel creatures—all while barely breaking a sweat. We break down the story, explore what it adds to Maul’s character, and ask the important question: what happens when you throw the galaxy’s most dangerous Sith into the worst prison imaginable? Spoiler: it goes very badly for everyone else.

This week on Legends Lookback, we dive into one of the most mysterious and terrifying Sith Lords in Star Wars Legends: Darth Nihilus. Introduced in Knights of the Old Republic II, Nihilus isn’t just another dark side villain—he’s a wound in the Force itself, driven by an endless hunger that can drain the life from entire worlds. We explore the origins of this haunting character, the eerie lore behind his mask and silent presence, and what his existence reveals about the nature of the Force. Along the way, we debate whether Nihilus is truly one of the most powerful Sith in history or simply the most dangerous anomaly the galaxy has ever seen.

In this episode, we dive into Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader by James Luceno and explore the brutal, emotional aftermath of Order 66. We follow Vader’s first uneasy steps as the Emperor’s enforcer — wrestling with his new armor, his shattered identity, and a galaxy that still remembers Anakin Skywalker — while a handful of surviving Jedi struggle to accept that their war, and their Order, is truly over. From Kashyyyk’s tragedy to Vader’s early lightsaber clashes, we break down the character depth, the creeping weight of Imperial rule, and whether this novel is more a story about the rise of a Sith… or the extinction of hope.

It’s getting dark in here, so tune into this episode of Legends Lookback! We’re introducing a new season of Sith-related content. In this episode we’ll be discussing and debating why books about Sith Lords are so great and selecting books to cover on upcoming roundtable episodes.

In this episode we dive into the second half of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, from the galaxy-spanning hunt for the Star Maps to the dark halls of the Sith Academy on Korriban. Along the way, we unpack one of the greatest plot twists in sci-fi history—the reveal of Darth Revan—and explore the mystery of the Star Forge and the ancient powers behind it. Big ideas, bold choices, and why KOTOR still hits so hard all these years later.

We’re wrapping up the year, looking back at the good times, and dreaming of what’s ahead. So before you put away your stockings, put on your red Wookiee Life Day robes one last time for the season, and mix some egg nog into your blue bilk as we celebrate the holiday with Star Wars Legends and ring in the new year with the old Legends we’ve known and loved for decades.

Our KOTOR coverage continues! Hop on board the Ebon Hawk with us as we do a character deep-dive on the illustrious crew of diverse companions that accompany you throughout the game. We’re talking Juhani, Jolee, Bastila, and more. Who’s your favorite? Did you kill Juhani? Let us know in the Discord.

One of the best things about the Star Wars Legends community is the wonderful network of like-minded fans who all share our love of these fantastic stories and characters. We connected with one such new friend of ours is Kyle (Xezene), the creator of a tremendous undertaking—detailed, a multi-part, behind the scenes account of the making of the New Jedi Order. He went back in the archives and conducted brand new interviews to find all of the personal accounts of what went down all those years ago to form this unbelievably ambitious storytelling initiative. We ask Kyle all about what it took to tackle such a big project, as well as just general nerding out about the NJO. Thanks to the folks at Legacy Expo for bringing us together. Recorded on September 13th in Burbank, CA.

In this episode we explore the lore of Revan and Malak, their triumphs, their falls to the dark side, and their brutal breakup with galaxy-spanning consequences. We'll explore the brilliant tactical minds of Revan and Malak and their sudden, shocking fall to the dark side. We cover their motivations and the philosophical seeds that led them to forge a new Sith Empire

At Legacy Expo we had the unbelievable opportunity to talk with one of the early architects of the Expanded Universe—Barbara Hambly! We reflected on her experiences writing Children of the Jedi, Planet of Twilight, as well as short stories in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina and Tales from Jabba’s Palace. She took us on a thrilling adventure down memory lane, recounting some of the behind-the-scenes action that resulted in the creation of these epic tales we all know and love.

You’re going to love getting to know Freddy’s new best friend, Christian Gossett. Artist on Tales of the Jedi and creator of the double-bladed lightsaber, Christian helped shape a beloved era of Star Wars back in the 90s. We became fast friends and learned so much from his mindset, approach, work ethic, and personality. Enjoy!

Another great interview with an absolute legend of a Star Wars Legends author is headed your way! In this interview we talk with Matthew Stover about the making of the Revenge of the Sith novelization, the behind-the-scenes of the new Deluxe Edition, what goes into writing psychological mind-bending books, morally grey characters, and so much more. He’s such a great person to talk to and we can’t wait for you to hear it.

Pick up your copy of the Deluxe Edition of Revenge of the Sith here!

Our suitcases are unpacked, swag is everywhere, and so are the memories. In this episode we will continue our Knights of the Old Republic deep dive with the planet we all love to hate—Taris. We’ll talk about the gangs, the dueling ring, the Rancor, and of course the Rakghouls. But first, a briefish update on Legacy Expo.

Have you ever heard the legend of James Luceno the wise? Now you can hear from this brilliant author directly from the source because Jared and Freddy sat down with him for a phenomenal chat at Legacy Expo. He is the author of great Star Wars books like Darth Plagueis, Cloak of Deception, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, and several books in the New Jedi Order including its epic finale, The Unifying Force. We asked him about the development of the NJO, many mind-blowing behind-the-scenes details, and also what it was like crafting such a dark and twisted tale as Darth Plagueis. You’re going to love this one.
