Little by Little Homeschool - Christian Homeschooling and Motherhood

Christianity, Kids & Family, Parenting, Religion & Spirituality

Do you wish you felt confident in your homeschool decisions instead of constantly second-guessing yourself? Are you overwhelmed by questions, pressure, and the many roles you carry as a homeschool mom?

The Little By Little Homeschool Podcast offers tactical and realistic encouragement to free you from the stress, pressure, and constant uncertainty that so many homeschool moms feel. You'll find practical guidance and mindset shifts that help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and peace.

Hi, I'm Leigh, a Christian wife and mom who spent far too many years trying to duct-tape my priorities together. I chased approval, tried to meet unspoken expectations, and navigated homeschooling without a clear foundation.

I finally realized that if I was going to fully embrace the life I had, I needed to operate from a place of peace and joy. That's when I planted my feet firmly where I was and began to create beauty, seek simplicity, and live intentionally.

If you are ready to love your life as a homeschool mom and to know with confidence that you are doing the right thing for your children--this podcast is for you!

Together, we'll dive into homeschool hot topics, practical adjustments, and mindset shifts that help you create a homeschool where both you and your children can flourish—little by little.

  1. 492. After Graduating All My Homeschoolers, This Was My Approach to High School

    Show notes

High school is one of the top reasons parents decide not to homeschool. There is a huge fear aspect attached to it.

"How could I ever homeschool the high school subjects?"

I've heard that one more times than I'd like to tell you. And to be honest, I used to say that too...until!!!! I started homeschooling high school.

But, I didn't go into it blindly: I had a plan and an end goal of the teen years. And guess what? It worked!

I'd like to share with you my approach and some of what I learned about homeschooing high school. Grab a pen and paper and let's get rid of the fear and come up with a solid plan.

    Show notes

Today, we're going to spend a few minutes running around the hamster wheel in your mind. You know, the one that yet again, says it's probably best to quit homeschooling. Or at the very least, it's what you want to do.

Honestly, I care too much about the success (and joy) of your homeschool to let you go down this path again. I'm not holding back in this episode because I really want to see you get to the other side of this thought (and behavior) pattern.

These days are truly too important to dwell even one more minute upon wanting to quit homeschooling.

Let's sit down and have a heart to heart.

    Show notes

When we take on the responsibility of home educating a child, a whole lot of "what if's?" pop into our head as homeschool moms. And we don't usually easily (or quickly) shake those.

It feels like a lot of pressure and we don't want to get anything wrong. And I get that.

But what if we could name the fears that you are facing and work through them one by one? That is the goal of today's episode: confront the top fears you are facing and really talk about how to overcome them.

I pray this episode blesses and equips you!

    Show notes

We can all (and should) admit that homeschooling can be hard. There are highs and lows and concerns that moms have that are legitimate.

At times, it all just feels so overwhelming.

And you might feel stuck...wishing for someone to swoop in and wave a magic wand and everything will be better.

But what if I think that outsourcing is what is keeping you stuck in that cycle of concerns and problems? Today, I'm going to spell that out and show you what it looks like.

And by the end, there will be layers of hope in you that you don't need to outsource your child's education. I promise.

    Show notes

It can be so easy to slip away from our first goals of homeschooling and become so rigid in our home education. The pressure from state requirements, family members, the desire for them to excel, or just getting lost in the weeds of what we are really preparing our children for is very common.

One thing that gets pushed easily to the back burner is creativity.

Children are naturally creative and as adults, with the weight of the world on our shoulders and a home full of children, it doesn't always feel important to protect and encourage creativity.

Whether you need to add or embrace creativity...or are wondering if you're doing enough of it...I have a few ideas on what this could look like in your homeschool.

Take some notes and then run with it and get creative yourself!

    Show notes

The academics are important in homeschool, but it wasn't the only reason you decided to homeschool. Were you hoping to preserve your children's innocence, time, and heart?

If so, it can be so easy to fill up and maximize every moment of the homeschool years. And those may be filled with really good things, but what if you look back someday and realize they lost childhood because of your zeal?

I have a few questions for you to think on as you consider if there is room for childhood in your homeschool. And I think this is a really good time of the year to weigh all your plans against the big picture of their childhood years.

These types of days can be turned into good for our homeschool when you learn how to recover from it.

As a homeschool mom with three graduates and a front row seat to older teens and young adults, I can see first hand the benefit of taking the time when our children are young to teach them specific habits and skills.

    Does it take longer? Yes.

Will it sometimes be frustrating? Yes.

Do you only do the easy things as a parent? No.

Today's episode is my {insert dramatic sigh} plea to see the opportunity of homeschool beyond the academics. Consider this an opportunity to shift some priorities and take a look at the big picture of launching your kids out into the world.

Guess what? They're going to grow up and be out on their own in the world someday. There is no stopping that. But what if they could be "domesticated?" I believe it will benefit them and others greatly.

    Show notes

When you think about homeschool, your mind most likely goes straight to curriculum, co-ops, field trips, and so on. And that is totally understandable, as it is a part of homeschool.

But, take a step back and look at the big picture of homeschooling. It's not just the education of particular subjects, but more like an entire way of living.

Beyond the home education, moms have a lot to factor in. Things like meals, naps, discipleship, bed times, routines, sports, church, friendships, holidays, vacations and on and on.

All of these things combined can feel overwhelming, so I thought it would be good to bring this up as you begin a brand new homeschool year. Let's get out of feeling overwhelmed so you aren't fried and exhausted at the end of each day.

Let's have a chat about it...

    Show notes

More than anything else, homeschool moms question their own ability to homeschool. We don't typically doubt our children's ability to learn.

Am I enough? Can I really do this? Will they be doomed because of me? And...do I have the capacity to homeschool?

I'm not mincing words in this episode because you probably don't need any fluff right about now. What I want is to shoot it straight and then build you up. That combination has the possibility of launching you into a really good homeschool year.

Grab an ice tea and pull up a chair while the kids play and let's have a good chat.

In an effort to make sure that we are "doing enough," the typical homeschool mom will add a bunch more things to the list and then wonder if it's too much.

Funny how we like to swing that pendulum from one end to another.

Today's episode is aimed at how much is too much for your homeschool. I have a few key points that will help you to measure this as you step into the new homeschool year soon. However, these take-aways are applicable for any time of the year.

My hope is that my words lead you and your family to a place of contentment with your homeschool education.
