  1. Coby White RETURNS!! | Tidjane Salaun DECISION | Hornets Weekend RECAP

    Episode 2442

    Show notes

This Locked On Hornets episode tackles a whirlwind of news and storylines swirling around the Charlotte franchise. The conversation focused on Coby White's imminent return to the floor — a move described as more critical for the Hornets' short-term prospects than even Kon Knueppel’s comeback, thanks to White’s proven ability as both a scoring threat and playmaker. Listeners get a detailed snapshot of the team’s approach to recurring injury challenges and why the organization is hoping the ramp-up strategy keeps White healthy and productive for the long haul.

A key theme that emerged was the Hornets' decision not to exercise the $10 million team option on Tidjane Salaun for the 2027-28 season. The discussion explored Salaun’s developmental flashes, defensive growth, and shooting from the corner, balanced against the uncertainty of paying starter money for a player still piecing his NBA role together. Questions linger about Salaun’s future fit in Charlotte’s rotation, and what avenues both player and team might consider next.

Several points were raised, including a weekend recap spotlighting the Hornets’ ongoing offensive woes — from abysmal shooting performances to struggles creating quality looks and generating points at the free-throw line. The episode closes with a sense of cautious optimism: could Coby White’s return finally jumpstart the Hornets’ sputtering offense, or will the issues endure until more reinforcements arrive? All the twists, stats, and implications are here as Charlotte faces a pivotal stretch of the season.

  2. Brandon Miller ELECTRIFIES | Grayson Allen DELIVERS | Trick or Treat TRENDS

    Episode 2441

    Show notes

Charlotte Hornets fans are buzzing as Brandon Miller puts on the cape and elevates his game, carrying the offense with back-to-back 30-point performances. This episode spotlights Miller’s emergence as the go-to scorer, his improvements in rebounding and shot selection, and the way he’s handled increased responsibility with key teammates out. The conversation flows through Grayson Allen’s sustained shooting and playmaking off the bench, with analysis of his fit and value to the rotation now that his minutes are up.

Listeners can expect a lively Trick-or-Treat segment where early Hornets trends face a test: which surprises are “treats” here to stay, and which are “tricks” likely to vanish as the season matures? The spotlight shines on Moussa Diabate’s dramatic leap in offensive rebounding, the Hornets’ improved defensive ratings, and the challenging decisions ahead for Tidjane Salaun with his team option deadline looming.

Rounding out the show, there’s a weekend preview covering crucial matchups in East Group C action, the franchise’s NBA Cup chances, and how upcoming returns from Kon Knueppel and Coby White could reshape both the offense and defense. Listeners get advanced stats, sharp wit, and honest takes—with a Halloween twist—on which Hornets storylines are poised to last past October and which might be fading come November.

  3. Naz Reid BENCHED | What Comes NEXT? | Kon Knueppel RETURN?!?

    Episode 2439

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets made waves with a bold coaching decision as Charles Lee benched Naz Reid for the entire second half against the Detroit Pistons, sparking questions about team culture, accountability, and the message being sent to the roster. This episode unpacks why Reid’s on-court actions— and, more importantly, apparent words— led to his benching during a winnable game, as well as what it reveals about the standards being set by Charlotte’s new leadership. The conversation explores the nuances behind Lee's decision, how the locker room is affected, and whether this move could shape team identity for the long haul.

As the Hornets adjust to early season challenges and look to steady their course, there’s good news on the injury front—rookie Kon Knueppel has been assigned to practice with the Greensboro Swarm, signaling a possible return that could boost the Hornets’ struggling offense. The show discusses how a healthy Kon, alongside key shooters, might change Charlotte’s fortunes.

Listeners also get recognition for Brandon Miller's strong performance, even in a tough loss, and the episode touches on the reality of maintaining discipline versus chasing wins in an 82-game season. There’s candid insight into the risks and expectations facing Charles Lee, the importance of treating every player with the same standards, and what lessons Hornets fans can take from a night where culture was on full display. Tune in for a fast-paced, honest look at an eventful week in Buzz City.

  4. How REAL are the Hornets? | Potential Trade RUMOR | Leave MUGGSY Alone!!

    Episode 2438

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets are turning heads with a 3-1 record—despite a roster hit hard by injuries and missing key players like Coby White, Kon Knueppel, and Grant Williams. This episode tackles the big question dominating Charlotte’s social media: is this hot start actually sustainable, or are Hornets fans getting ahead of themselves? The show examines the importance of effort, rebounding, and defense as the true foundations of the team's early success, and challenges the naysayers who chalk up their record to an easy schedule.

But it’s not all optimism—Dennis Schroder’s impressive performance has sparked trade chatter, especially with his OKC Thunder ties and the league’s constant injury shuffles. The discussion features smart debate about when, if ever, the Hornets should pull the trigger on deals for assets versus chasing wins, with a hard line drawn at a 50-win pace for making any big moves.

In the final segment, the hosts take on the viral controversy about Muggsy Bogues’ jersey retirement and which city—or franchise—should honor the Hornets legends of the past. With humor and deep Hornets knowledge, the podcast exposes the flaws in arguments against Charlotte celebrating its own, and sets the record straight on NBA history. Whether you’re curious about Brandon Miller’s emergence or just tired of people being “stupid about Muggsy Bogues,” this episode delivers all the angles Charlotte fans need.

  5. Hornets Announce Jersey RETIREMENT | Brandon Miller ASCENDS | New CAREER High |

    Episode 2437

    Show notes

On today’s episode, the Charlotte Hornets’ early-season resilience takes center stage as the team pushes to a 3-1 record despite missing key contributors like Coby White and Kon Knueppel. The conversation spotlights Brandon Miller’s career-high 39-point game—a showcase of his leadership and evolving all-star potential. The Hornets’ strong response to a disastrous 47-point loss shows a uniquely tough DNA, with impressive efforts from Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, Tidjane Salaun, and particularly Moussa Diabate, who turned heads with his relentless rebounding and energy.

Listeners are treated to thoughtful player analysis and shoutouts, from dissecting the chemistry between Miller and Naz Reid to highlighting Diabate’s growing role on both ends of the floor. The episode also reflects on how the team culture of moving on from mistakes and supporting each other is becoming a Hornets hallmark.

A key highlight is the announcement that Charlotte legend Muggsy Bogues will have his number 1 jersey raised to the rafters—becoming only the third player in franchise history to receive such an honor. The hosts discuss Bogues’ ongoing legacy as both a player and community icon, making it clear that this jersey retirement is about much more than novelty—it’s a deserved tribute to a local and NBA legend. Tune in for insightful Hornets coverage, unscripted reactions, and a celebration of the game’s impossible made possible.

  6. Big Hornets Bounce Back WIN | ALWAYS Beat the Heat | Brandon Miller STEPS UP!

    Episode 2436

    Show notes

Charlotte basketball faithful got the performance they desperately needed as the Hornets stormed past the Miami Heat in a gritty showdown. This episode of Locked On Hornets highlights the turning points and top contributors from Charlotte’s redemption win, with discussion focused on Brandon Miller’s assertive offense and late-game poise. Grayson Allen’s all-around physicality and timely shot-making earn special praise as he steps up for a depleted Hornets rotation. The analysis details how the Hornets’ frontcourt, including Ryan Kalkbrenner and Moussa Diabate, responded to Miami’s physicality and made crucial mid-game adjustments when foul trouble struck.

The conversation explores how Miami nearly erased a 20-point deficit, what went wrong for the Heat’s defense early, and what allowed the Hornets to hold on under pressure. Another major theme is the value of Southeast Division games, with a spirited take on why these matchups still matter for franchise history and future tiebreakers. Listeners are treated to lineup insights, thoughts on Sion James’ offensive struggles, and the spark provided by Naz Reid.

Plus, the episode recognizes the Hornets’ improvement in turnovers, rebounding, and in-game execution compared to their collapse against the Hawks. Whether discussing the Heat rivalry, individual player accountability, or the evolving depth chart, it’s a compelling episode for fans who crave both detailed basketball talk and the stories that fuel Charlotte’s NBA journey.

  7. Hornets have HISTORIC Loss | Brandon Miller STRUGGLES | Should We PANIC?

    Episode 2434

    Show notes

The discussion explored one of the roughest nights in recent Charlotte Hornets memory as Atlanta handed the home team a staggering 47-point loss. The episode opens with a recap of just how quickly things unraveled for Charlotte, highlighting the ineffectiveness of their pick-and-roll attack, the constant turnover issues—25 in total—and the inability of stars like Brandon Miller and Naz Reid to deliver. One concept discussed was Miller’s continued struggle to find his rhythm, finishing just 2-of-14 from the field and 1-of-11 from deep, as well as his defensive lapses against CJ McCollum.

A key theme that emerged was the impact of injuries: with Coby White, Kon Knueppel, and Grant Williams out, the team’s lack of depth became glaringly obvious. Several points were raised, including whether the absence of these players alone can excuse such a lopsided result or whether deeper issues are already surfacing in Charlotte’s new-look roster.

The conversation turned to the fan reaction, notably the rare sounds of boos from the Spectrum Center crowd, and what that signals about expectations and frustrations in the Queen City. The episode also touches on the resilience shown in past seasons, and whether this squad—still adjusting with many new faces—can respond in kind.

  8. Rookie Runs LIMITED | Christian Anderson STRUGGLES | Depth FUELS Win

    Episode 2433

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets are 1-0, but the story isn’t just about the win—it’s who didn’t play. In this episode, we explore why highly-touted rookie Hannes Steinbach was left on the bench for his NBA debut, despite being a lottery pick and having a strong showing in the preseason’s final game. Drawing comparisons to recent Hornets rookies, it’s clear this isn’t the first time a top pick has had to wait for his moment. We examine whether Steinbach’s slow transition reflects concern or just a learning curve, with insights from Coach Charles Lee about the nuances of NBA adjustment and player development versus competing for wins.

Attention then turns to Christian Anderson, the only Hornets rookie to see action, whose promising preseason momentum hit a wall against Brooklyn’s aggressive defense. We break down Anderson’s stat line and game impact, the challenge of facing tough backcourts right out of the gate, and how injuries to Coby White and Kon Knueppel create opportunities—while raising pressure—for young players.

Listener celebrations and Sicko Brigade shoutouts add some fan flavor after the victory, along with a conversation about new depth pieces like Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, and Royce O’Neale. As the schedule heats up with a tough five-games-in-seven-days stretch, we preview what to watch, how the Hornets’ rotations might adapt, and what early returns mean for their playoff hopes.

  9. Hornets WIN 6th Straight Season Opener | Naz Reid Goes OFF | Hornets' Bench WRENCH

    Episode 2432

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets opened their season with an impressive 110-103 road win against the Brooklyn Nets, overcoming injuries and silencing doubters with energetic team play. On this episode, the focus is set squarely on Brandon Miller’s explosive first half and how a slow start turned into a momentum-shifting stretch thanks to his tough finishes and confidence, even as he cooled off in the second half. Naz Reid’s emergence as a facilitator, scorer, and gritty presence in the paint also commands attention, with his near triple-double performance providing a crucial anchor for the offense. The conversation also highlights Doug Branson's observations about Moussa Diabate’s relentless rebounding, Dennis Schroder’s rim pressure, and Grayson Allen’s timely shooting and surprising defensive impact.

Attention shifts to rotation changes, with early takes on Sion James filling in for Kon Knueppel and Coby White, as well as how the lack of LaMelo Ball was felt in both organization and shot creation. Expect sharp insights on rookie struggles—especially Christian Anderson’s tough second half—and the challenges of integrating new faces in a new system under coach Charles Lee. The duo celebrates the Hornets’ hard-nosed defense becoming a foundational identity, while also touching on role players like Ryan Kalkbrenner and Royce O’Neale, who could become critical as the season progresses. It’s a spirited, analytically rich look at what might be in store for this reshaped Charlotte squad.

  10. Kon and Coby are OUT!! | What Does it MEAN? | What Can We EXPECT

    Episode 2431

    Show notes

The season couldn’t start with more intrigue for the Charlotte Hornets: injuries have sidelined Coby White and rookie Kon Knueppel for the opener against Brooklyn, forcing head coach Charles Lee to get creative with rotations and rely on new faces. With two potential starters out, who steps up to drive the offense, and how might this impact the Hornets’ hunt for a play-in spot or more in the East? The discussion digs into what fans should expect as Dennis Schroder, Christian Anderson, and especially Sion James and Naz Reid are thrust into larger roles, with Grayson Allen’s health proving a crucial X-factor.

Attention also shifts to Brandon Miller’s $209 million rookie extension—the structure, fan reaction, and why much of Hornets Nation is still linking the move to the recent LaMelo Ball trade. Hear a clear-headed take on the logic of the new contract in the context of the NBA’s current economics, role player deals, and why this agreement could age well regardless of heated social media debate.

Finally, join in as we run the numbers, revisit rookie extension history, and size up where the Hornets stand in the East. Are expectations of 37+ wins realistic with the current roster? Can this patchwork lineup keep pace and provide hope, or are the early injuries a sign of things to come?

  12. Hornets LOCK UP Brandon Miller 💰 | Sam Farber HYPES Kon Knueppel's Bigger Role | Nets Opener PREVIEW

    Episode 2430

    Show notes

It came down to the buzzer, but the Charlotte Hornets got it done. Brandon Miller agreed to a five-year, $209 million rookie scale extension less than an hour before Monday's deadline, and Doug Branson and Walker Mehl are here to explain what it means. The number lands $1 million above Amen Thompson's deal in Houston, and that matters. It tells you the Hornets see Miller as a first or second option, a future All-NBA talent, and a pillar of this roster. He's been a model citizen, he's averaged 20 points in each of the last two seasons, and the only real question left is health.

Then the radio voice of the Hornets, Sam Farber, joins the show for two segments recorded just before the news broke. Sam explains why Miller is vital to this team's ceiling, what Kon Knueppel's bigger role will look like, and why the Hornets' defense could be the biggest early surprise of the season. He also singles out Tidjane Salaun's offseason work on his body and the summer chemistry that has newcomers like Coby White raving.

With the opener Wednesday in Brooklyn, Sam previews a Nets team built around Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr., and talks about how rookies Christian Anderson Jr. and Hannes Steinbach can earn minutes while Knueppel and White are out. Plus, a trip through Sam's minor league baseball days, the story behind "goodbye baseball," and a pitch for "goodbye basketball" on the first big blocked shot of the year.

  13. Hornets Preseason is OVER! | Rookies NAIL Dress Rehearsal!! 😤| Tidjane Salaun OVER Pat Connaughton??

    Episode 2428

    Show notes

Walker is back and flying solo! Good news: Hornets preseason is over! Bad news: They lost to Memphis 117-98 to end the session. What were the positives? Walker goes over the performances from the rookies and why they nailed their dress rehearsal, even if the team played poorly overall. Plus, why did the Hornets decide to cut Pat Connaughton over Tidjane Salaun? Was it the right decision?

With Moussa Diabate held out by a knee injury the team is calling day-to-day, Hannes Steinbach got real minutes and made the most of them, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He started slow again, but he ran the floor, showed his strong hands, and kept getting better as the night went on. His two-man game with Christian Anderson Jr., his teammate on the German national team, already looks like a weapon in transition.

Anderson gets a closer look too. His pick-and-roll reads, low dribbles, and quick passes are why he's being compared to a quarterback, and one of his turnovers says more about Liam McNeeley's missed slip than about Anderson's decision. Charles Lee is coaching McNeeley hard, and that tells you something about where the young wing stands.

Finally, the roster is set. Jeff Peterson waived Pat Connaughton and kept Tidjane Salaun as the 15th man. Was it the right call, and what does Salaun's upcoming option decision mean for his future in Charlotte? Real basketball is almost here, and so is opening night for this young Hornets team.

  14. Hornets LEARN Hard Lessons 😬 | Brandon Miller's Extension Clock TICKS | Hannes Falling Behind?!

    Episode 2427

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets got a real measuring stick in Boston, and the 114-93 loss showed exactly where this roster stands before opening night. Doug Branson walks through what this week taught us, starting with a problem that won't go away: real size. Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta controlled the paint, Boston won the points in the paint 56-20, and thirty turnovers made a tough night worse. Moussa Diabate is stronger, but the center spot is still the biggest weakness on this roster, and in a playoff series it's an easy one for opponents to attack.

Then it's on to Brandon Miller, with the extension deadline arriving Monday. Miller had Paul George on roller skates at times and got to his spots, but a 1-for-11 start is a reminder that being the number one option is easier said than done. Does he deserve max money before he's had a fully healthy season to prove it? Jeff Peterson has a tough call to make.

Doug also looks at Charles Lee's postgame comments on rookie Hannes Steinbach, who mentioned competitiveness and details, and asks whether Christian Anderson Jr. could earn a rotation spot first. Plus, the annual NBA GM survey is out. The Hornets finished third for best offseason moves, Naz Reid placed third for most underrated acquisition, and Kon Knueppel picked up votes for best pure shooter behind Steph Curry. A Sicko Satchel question wraps up the show: is it too early to worry about this team?

  15. Hornets Fall to Celtics: Turnovers, Brandon Miller's Deadline, and Christian Anderson Jr.'s Debut

    Episode 2426

    Show notes

The Charlotte Hornets took their first road trip of the preseason, and the Boston Celtics sent them home with a 114-93 loss. Preseason caveats apply. Injuries are piling up, and Coby White and Kon Knueppel weren't available. But this one raised real questions.

Charlotte turned the ball over 30 times, and Boston scored 27 points off those mistakes. The Celtics won the paint 56 to 20. Defensive miscommunication left Jayson Tatum wide open from three, and Derrick White got to the rim almost whenever he wanted. Without a reliable way to score inside, the Hornets leaned on the three-point line to stay in it. Tidjane Salaun's shooting off the bench was a big part of that.

Brandon Miller's night tells two stories. He opened 1 of 11 from the field, then rallied for 12 points in the third quarter. That comes with his extension deadline on Monday and reports that he wants a max deal. A matchup with Paul George, the player Miller modeled his game after, showed the gap that's still there in finishing inside with strength and body control.

There's good news too. Christian Anderson Jr. scored 10 points in his debut, with two steals and a clean shooting stroke that puts a rough summer league behind him. Meanwhile, Hannes Steinbach didn't check in until 6:10 left in the fourth, which raises fair questions about where the rookie stands. Plus, Dennis Schroder passing up an open Sion James in the corner, Naz Reid's frustration against Boston's pressure, and what Charlotte has to clean up before opening night.

    Episode 2425

    Show notes

On today's episode of Locked On Hornets, hosts Doug Branson and Nata Edwards tackle the burning question every Charlotte Hornets fan is asking: should the front office offer Brandon Miller an extension that could rival or even surpass Amen Thompson's deal? With contract rumors swirling, and experts split on Miller’s worth, the guys dissect the biggest risk factors, performance updates, and financial implications facing the franchise ahead of the looming deadline.

But the off-court drama isn't the only headline. Doug and Nata check in on the injury front—especially the potential returns for Kon Knueppel and Coby White—gauging how those timelines could shape the season opener and Charlotte’s playoff hopes. They play their classic “Chance, Not a Chance” game to predict if the Hornets can deliver a winning record or surprise anyone in the postseason.

There's more: the episode covers rookie Hannes Steinbach’s NBA readiness, Tidjane Salaun and Sion James battling for rotation minutes, and the critical importance of functional strength, basketball IQ, and depth during the grueling NBA calendar. Plus, in the Hornets X-Files segment, the spotlight shifts to LaMelo Ball’s fit in Minnesota and what his success (or failure) might mean for Charlotte’s rebuild.

    Episode 2424

    Show notes

Brandon Miller is back in the lineup, and the Charlotte Hornets wasted no time putting him front and center in their second preseason matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. Host Doug Branson spotlights Miller’s confident return following a shin injury and shoulder surgery, noting his impressive 18-point performance and leadership on the floor despite a limited offseason. The show highlights how Miller’s shot creation and passing spark optimism for his Most Improved Player odds, and discusses the improvements in his physical play and defensive presence.

The Hornets’ depth takes center stage as Doug Branson outlines key performances from the bench, including standout games from Seon James, Royce O’Neale, Ron Ball, and promising minutes from rookie Hannes Steinbach. Naz Reid’s efficient night is spotlighted along with updates on other young talents such as Liam McNeely, Tijane Salaun, and Ryan Kalkbrenner. The episode also sets the stage for crucial preseason battles for rotation spots and questions what the Hornets’ evolving depth might mean once regular season play begins. 20. How REAL is the Hornets' depth? | What to EXPECT from the Player Tiers | Rookies have to EARN it

    Episode 2421

    Show notes

Is the Charlotte Hornets’ revamped roster truly deeper, or is the bench just better disguised? In this episode, Walker Mehl assesses the franchise’s much-discussed overhaul—highlighting the veteran arrivals of Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, and Dennis Schroder—and explains why their playoff experience could impact more than just the win column. With the ascent of Kon Knueppel and the healthy return of Brandon Miller, the path for first-year players like Hannes Steinbach and Christian Anderson suddenly looks steeper this season.

Walker Mayo discusses why Charlotte’s latest moves might finally give the Hornets a true support structure for its young core, spelling out how the “soil for the stars” could help talents like Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller flourish into All-Star territory. He unpacks last year’s rookie playing time and why this season’s higher expectations and depth might mean fewer opportunities for immediate impact from Steinbach and Anderson—even if they’re ready. Plus, hear a strategic take on tradable contracts, future cap flexibility, and how Jeff Peterson’s approach gives the Hornets real options whether their homegrown stars leap forward or level off.
