Episode 302
Show notes
Welcome to another empowering episode of the Lovefly podcast! In this session, we sit down with Melissa—whose entire family, including her father Rick, worked in aviation for British Airways—to discuss her personal journey overcoming a severe fear of flying. Joined by veteran BA training captain Rick, this episode bridges the gap between technical aviation reality and the emotional psychology of flight anxiety.
What You'll Learn: Why growing up around aviation doesn't automatically immunize you against flight fear. How evolutionary instincts and the need for control fuel aviation anxiety. Practical, hands-on grounding techniques (like the dot-to-dot flight log and sensory blocking). Inside insights on pilot training, redundancies, and why flight crews are just as invested in safety as you are.

Ep. 299 - Suzanne's story - From being unable to board a plane to looking forward to Jamaica…
Episode 299
Show notes
Meet Suzanne...
• Suzanne’s fear of flying began suddenly at 21, despite never having experienced a bad flight or aviation incident.
• She went through years of avoiding flying, including periods lasting more than a decade.
• She tried Flying Without Fear courses, books and other techniques over many years, with varying degrees of success.
• A particularly difficult experience saw her refused boarding because she was so distressed about flying.
• In 2022, her fear reached its lowest point when she couldn't even leave home to go to the airport for a family holiday.
• She then discovered Lovefly and the 30-day programme, returning to the resources and community that had helped her in the past.
• She explains how the constant exposure to other fearful flyers successfully boarding flights and arriving safely helped change her mindset.
• Her biggest breakthrough came when she decided: she would only allow herself to be afraid if the pilot actually declared an emergency.
• She also discovered the value of keeping her brain fully occupied, using puzzle and strategy games during the airport experience and flight.
• She successfully flew to Barbados, describing it as a trip of a lifetime—and is now looking forward to Jamaica.
• Suzanne now describes herself as someone who “used to be a fearful flyer.”
• Her message to other fearful flyers is simple and powerful: if she could overcome a fear that had affected her for decades, change is possible.Lovefly Courses www.lovefly.co.uk/courses/ FB - Lovefly Insta @loveflyhelp #fearofflying #flyingwithoutfear #anxiety #aviation #lovefly #pilots #turbulence #claustrophobia #cleithrophobia Private Members Group: https://lovefly.podia.com/

Ep. 298 - Andrea and her 35 year battle with anxiety and trapped panic
Episode 298
Show notes
In this episode of the Lovefly podcast, Paul speaks with Andrea about her 35-year battle with flight anxiety and trapped panic. After an offhand remark during a 1991 flight triggered a panic attack, Andrea spent decades avoiding air travel, missing out on family trips, and struggling with anticipatory dread.
Discover how she broke a 35-year avoidance loop using full-scenario visualization, EFT tapping, flight chunking, and the Lovefly community—and how she’s now heading to Europe! What you'll learn in this episode: Why fear of flying is often about panic and control, not plane safety. How childhood memories and offhand comments can plant seeds of flight anxiety. The danger of "stopping the mental movie" at peak panic—and how visualization fixes it.
Daily preparation habits: EFT tapping, flight footage desensitization, and positive affirmations. The 15-minute in-flight "chunking" method to stay grounded during long trips.

Ep. 289 - Caroline Milne Menopause Coach, Fear of Flying and Anxiety
Episode 289
Show notes
Did you use to fly with ease, but now the mere thought of an airplane cabin triggers intense panic and heart palpitations? The problem might not be the flight itself—it could be your hormones. In this episode of the Lovefly Podcast, we sit down with former NHS nurse and specialized Menopause Coach Caroline Milne to pull back the curtain on the hidden biological link between perimenopause and sudden travel anxiety. Discover how fluctuating oestrogen and progesterone levels steal your brain's natural ability to stay calm, why it leads to "catastrophizing" on flights, and how you can take control of your nervous system to travel freely again. What you’ll learn in this episode: The science of how a drop in progesterone directly sparks sudden, midlife anxiety. Why physical symptoms like hot flushes are frequently misidentified by the brain as flight panic. Unusual signs of perimenopause you probably haven't heard of (tinnitus, joint pain, and formication). The exact step-by-step lifestyle changes—from hydration to strategic breathwork—that eliminate brain fog and anxiety. What "postmenopausal zest" is and why there is massive hope for the future.
