MARRIAGE REDESIGNED WITH LISA LIMEHOUSE
Hope and Healing for Christian Couples After Marital Betrayal
Has infidelity, pornography, sexual addiction, or broken trust left you wondering whether your heart—and your marriage—will ever feel whole again? Are you searching for a clear path forward but determined to heal and rebuild your marriage God’s way?
You’re in the right place.
Welcome to Marriage Redesigned with Lisa Limehouse, formerly the Beauty Beyond Betrayal podcast.
This Christian marriage podcast is for couples navigating the heartbreak and uncertainty of marital betrayal. Whether you are the betrayed spouse trying to make sense of what happened or the unfaithful spouse ready to take responsibility and become a safe partner, you will find biblical guidance, honest conversations, trauma-informed teaching, and practical tools to help you move forward.
Together, we will talk about what it takes to:
• Heal from betrayal trauma
• End destructive patterns and create emotional safety
• Recover from infidelity, pornography, and sexual addiction
• Rebuild trust through honesty, ownership, and consistency
• Navigate triggers, shame, anger, and difficult conversations
• Restore emotional, spiritual, and physical intimacy
• Redesign your marriage with God at the center
I’m Lisa Limehouse—a betrayal trauma and infidelity recovery specialist, wife, mom, “Gigi” to five really rockin’ grands, and a woman who knows this pain personally.
When I married my knight in shining armor, I believed we were living our storybook love story. From the outside, we looked like the couple who had it all together.
Then betrayal entered our marriage, and everything I thought I knew came crashing down.
My heart, my confidence, and my sense of safety shattered. I found myself asking the same questions so many betrayed spouses ask:
“How could this happen?”
“Was any of our marriage real?”
“Will I ever be able to trust again?”
“Can God heal something this broken?”
“Is saving our marriage even possible?”
I felt lost, humiliated, overwhelmed, and completely unsure of what to do next. I didn’t need another person telling me to simply forgive, pray harder, or move on. I needed truth. I needed safety. I needed a plan.
And eventually, I learned that healing a marriage requires more than keeping two people together.
It requires truth before trust.
Safety before intimacy.
Healing before rebuilding.
Character before comfort.
And heart transformation that only God can bring.
Our journey from devastation to restoration was not quick or easy. There were moments when God held my hand and others when He carried me completely. But He met us in the wreckage, began healing each of us individually, and taught us how to build a marriage that was healthier, safer, and more honest than the one we had before.
That is why I created Marriage Redesigned.
My mission is to help Christian couples heal from betrayal, rebuild trust, restore connection, and create a marriage rooted in biblical truth and lasting transformation. Because God heals people—and healed people can rebuild marriages.
If you are ready to move beyond merely surviving the discovery and begin taking honest, intentional steps toward healing and restoration, this podcast is for you.
So grab your favorite latte, maybe a glass of wine, snuggle up with your favorite blanket, and take a deep breath.
Right now, we’re going to focus on your healing, your marriage, and the hope still ahead.
Your story does not have to end here.
Your marriage can be redesigned.
Let’s do this.

Somatic Healing After Betrayal: Why Your Body Still Reacts to Infidelity | E363
Episode 369
Show notes
Why does your body still react to your spouse's affair—even when you've talked about it, prayed about it, and tried everything to move forward?
Your heart races when their phone rings. Your stomach drops when they leave the house. Your muscles tighten during difficult conversations. And even when things seem peaceful, your body refuses to relax.
Could somatic healing help your nervous system recover from betrayal trauma?
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa Limehouse, we explore the connection between somatic healing, betrayal trauma, and nervous system regulation after infidelity—and why talking about the affair may not be enough to address the physical stress responses that follow marital betrayal.
Using neuroscience, Scripture, and trauma-informed research, Lisa explains how the brain and body respond to relational threats and how gentle body-based techniques may support recovery alongside emotional processing, accountability, and professional care.
In this episode, you'll discover:
•
What somatic healing is and how it relates to betrayal trauma recovery.
•
Why your body may continue responding to infidelity triggers even when your mind understands what happened.
•
How the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex contribute to stress responses.
•
Why anxiety, muscle tension, racing thoughts, and physical discomfort can continue after discovery.

Three practical somatic techniques to support nervous system regulation.
•
How to distinguish a physical trauma response from a present-day safety concern.

Why You Can't Just Move On After Infidelity (Even When Your Spouse Wants You To) | E361
Episode 367
Show notes
Why can't you just move on after infidelity—even when your cheating spouse has apologized, ended the affair, and promised to change?
If your spouse is telling you to stop bringing up the past, forgive them, or move forward before you're ready, you may be wondering why healing from betrayal trauma is taking so long.
Here's what many couples don't understand: Just because the betrayal has stopped doesn't mean the injury has healed.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa Limehouse, we explore why betrayed spouses and unfaithful spouses often experience completely different recovery timelines—and how pressure to move on can interfere with rebuilding trust, emotional safety, and intimacy after an affair.
Using neuroscience, Scripture, and current research on infidelity recovery, Lisa explains why your brain may continue searching for danger even after the affair ends, why forgiveness doesn't automatically restore trust, and how couples can move toward reconciliation without rushing the healing process.
In this episode, you'll discover:
•
Why your spouse may be ready to move forward while you're still struggling with betrayal trauma.
•
What happens in the brain and nervous system after discovering infidelity.
•
Why apologies and promises aren't enough to rebuild emotional safety.
•
How pressure to forgive or “get over it” can undermine genuine healing.
•
Why the passage of time doesn't automatically mean recovery is happening.
•
Three practical steps couples can take to rebuild trust without rushing reconciliation.
•
How to recognize real progress through truth, transparency, accountability, and consistent character change.

True Remorse or Manipulation After Infidelity? 5 Signs Your Spouse Is Really Changing | E360
Episode 366
Show notes
Is your cheating spouse genuinely remorseful—or are they manipulating you into trusting them again?
After discovering infidelity, an affair, pornography, or sexual betrayal, one of the hardest questions a betrayed spouse faces is: “How do I know if my spouse is truly sorry and actually changing?”
They've apologized. They've cried. They've promised it will never happen again. Maybe they're attending counseling, going to church, or doing everything they believe will save the marriage.
But how can you tell the difference between genuine remorse, temporary regret, and manipulation after cheating?
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa, we explore 5 signs of true remorse after infidelity, using biblical principles, neuroscience, and current research on betrayal trauma and rebuilding trust.
In this episode, you'll discover:
•
The difference between guilt, shame, genuine remorse, and biblical repentance.
•
Why apologies and tears don't necessarily mean your spouse has changed.
•
How to recognize manipulation, blame-shifting, defensiveness, and spiritual bypassing.
•
Why genuine remorse welcomes transparency and accountability instead of resisting them.
•
How a truly repentant spouse responds to your pain and betrayal trauma triggers.
•
Why consistent character transformation matters more than temporary good behavior.
•
How to recognize whether your spouse is respecting your healing process or pressuring you to move on.
Plus, Lisa shares three important questions to help you evaluate whether the changes you're seeing are genuine.
If you're wondering whether your marriage can survive infidelity, whether your spouse is truly repentant, or how to know when it's safe to begin rebuilding trust, this episode will help you approach those questions with greater clarity and discernment.

Betrayal Trauma & Your Nervous System: Why Your Body Won’t Calm Down After Infidelity | E358
Episode 364
Show notes
Why can’t your body calm down after discovering infidelity—even when your mind knows you’re safe right now?
Betrayal trauma can affect far more than your emotions. The racing heart, sleepless nights, stomach drops, hypervigilance, panic, emotional flooding, and even numbness can be connected to the way your brain and nervous system respond when someone you trusted becomes associated with danger.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned, Lisa explains the neuroscience behind the fight, flight, freeze, and stress responses that can occur after marital betrayal—and why a simple text notification, work trip, phone, location, or change in your spouse’s behavior can suddenly send your body into survival mode.
You’ll also learn 3 practical ways to help regulate your nervous system after betrayal, how Scripture speaks to embodied distress, and why creating real safety—not simply telling yourself to “calm down”—is essential to healing.
Plus, Lisa shares her free couples resource, We Are Not Crazy, created to help couples understand what is happening to them after betrayal and begin moving toward healing together.
If you’re experiencing betrayal trauma after an affair, pornography, sexual addiction, or ongoing deception and wondering, “Why can’t I just calm down?”—this episode will help you understand what your body may be trying to tell you.

Why You Still Don’t Feel Safe After Infidelity—even When You Know the Truth | E357
Episode 363
Show notes
Your spouse says the affair is over.
They’ve answered your questions. You may have the timeline, the passwords, the location access and the information you spent months searching for.
So why don’t you feel safe?
And why can’t you trust them yet?
After infidelity and marital betrayal, knowing the truth and feeling safe are not the same thing.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned, Lisa explains why betrayal trauma can leave your nervous system on alert even after the secrets have been exposed—and why telling the truth is only the beginning of rebuilding trust.
You’ll discover:
• Why learning the truth can initially make a betrayed spouse feel less safe, not more
• Why disclosure isn't the finish line for affair recovery
• Why your body may still react even when your mind knows the betrayal has ended
• Why triggers don't automatically mean your spouse is unsafe today
• Why the unfaithful spouse cannot simply announce, “I'm safe now”
• How honesty, transparency, accountability and empathy create evidence of change
• Why small, consistent actions—or “micro-repairs”—matter when rebuilding trust
• Why consistency is often more powerful than big promises and dramatic gestures
• How to recognize genuine character transformation after infidelity
• Why the betrayed spouse doesn't have to force trust before they're readyLisa also speaks directly to the spouse who caused the betrayal:
Your spouse doesn't need bigger promises. They need consistent evidence.
Trust isn't rebuilt because you say you've changed.
It begins to grow when your spouse repeatedly experiences a different version of you.
And for the betrayed spouse, healing doesn't require pretending you're ready to trust simply because your spouse is finally doing the right things.
You can acknowledge progress and still need time.
Because truth opens the door to rebuilding trust.
Consistency is what walks through it.
If you and your spouse are trying to heal after an affair, pornography, sexual betrayal or other marital betrayal, this episode will help you understand why safety must come before trust can truly grow.

Why You Can’t Stop Thinking About the Betrayal: Intrusive Thoughts After Infidelity | E356
Episode 362
Show notes
Why can’t you stop thinking about your spouse’s betrayal—even when you desperately want to?
You replay conversations. Reconstruct timelines. Search for missing details. Revisit old memories. Check the phone. Ask questions you’ve already asked. And sometimes you wonder, “Why can’t my brain just let this go?”
After infidelity or marital betrayal, these intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors may be connected to something deeper than simply “overthinking.” Your brain and nervous system may be trying to make sense of a reality that suddenly no longer feels safe.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned, Lisa explains why betrayal trauma can leave a betrayed spouse searching for answers, why the same questions may come up repeatedly, and what your mind may actually be looking for beneath all that searching.
You’ll learn:
• Why betrayal can disrupt your sense of what was real
• Why your brain keeps reconstructing the timeline
• Why triggers and hypervigilance can continue after the betrayal has ended
• Why betrayed spouses sometimes ask the same questions repeatedly
• Why “I already told you everything” may not create safety
• How truth, transparency, consistency and evidence help rebuild trust
• How to recognize when searching for answers is no longer helping you heal
• What the unfaithful spouse can do differently when questions and triggers ariseAnd if you’re the spouse who caused the betrayal, this episode is for you too. Understanding what may be happening underneath your spouse’s questions can completely change the way you respond to their pain.
Healing after infidelity isn’t about forcing yourself to forget what happened or demanding that trust return.
It’s about rebuilding in the right order:
Safety before intimacy.
Truth before trust.
Healing before rebuilding.
Character before comfort.God heals people. Transformed people heal marriages.

I’M BACK: AN UNEXPECTED PAUSE, A NEW SEASON & WHAT’S COMING | E355
Episode 361
Show notes
It’s been almost four weeks since I’ve been behind the microphone—and today, I’m finally back.
What started with bronchitis turned into laryngitis, and just as I thought I was beginning to recover, I developed shingles. What I expected to be a short interruption became four weeks of slowing down, resting, healing, and being reminded of something I teach couples every day:
Healing cannot be rushed.
In this short minisode, I’m sharing where I’ve been, what this unexpected season reminded me about healing, and where we’re headed next on Marriage Redesigned.
We’re going deeper into betrayal trauma, nervous-system healing, truth, safety, rebuilding trust, character transformation, and what real Christ-centered restoration can look like after marital betrayal.
If you’re the betrayed spouse, the spouse who caused the betrayal, or a couple wondering whether your marriage can truly be rebuilt, this next is for YOU!

Why Can’t I Believe Anything My Spouse Says After Infidelity? | E354
Episode 360
Show notes
Why can’t I believe anything my spouse says after infidelity—even when they may finally be telling the truth? After cheating, affairs, pornography, or repeated deception, your brain can learn that your spouse’s words are no longer reliable evidence of reality.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned, Lisa explains the neuroscience behind why betrayal can leave you questioning everything your spouse says. You’ll learn why your brain begins scanning for deception, why reassurance alone doesn’t rebuild trust, and why consistency, transparency, and changed behavior matter more than promises.
We’ll also look at what Scripture teaches about truth, trustworthiness, and recognizing change by its fruit—and the important difference between forgiving someone and automatically trusting them again.
If you’re struggling with betrayal trauma, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, or wondering, “How will I ever know if my spouse is telling me the truth?” this episode will help you understand why you feel this way and what rebuilding trust can actually look like.

Why Do Cheaters Keep Lying Even After They’re Caught? | E353
Episode 359
Show notes
Why do cheaters keep lying even after they’ve been caught? And why does the truth about an affair so often come out one painful piece at a time?
For many betrayed spouses, discovering the affair isn’t the end of the deception. Instead, they experience what is often called trickle truth—new details, contradictions, omissions, and partial disclosures that can make betrayal trauma even harder to heal.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned, Lisa Limehouse explores why an unfaithful spouse may continue lying after discovery through the lens of neuroscience, psychology, betrayal trauma, and Scripture.
We’ll unpack shame and self-protection, cognitive dissonance, compartmentalization, fear of consequences, and why deception can become a practiced response. You’ll also learn what repeated dishonesty does to the betrayed spouse’s nervous system—and why hypervigilance, questioning, and searching for inconsistencies can intensify when the truth keeps changing.
Most importantly, we’ll talk about what has to happen for deception to stop and genuine trust to begin rebuilding.
Because healing after infidelity doesn’t come from demanding trust.
Safety before intimacy. Truth before trust.
And trust is rebuilt through consistent evidence over time.

What Happens Inside the Brain During an Affair? Dopamine, Limerence, and Deception | E352
Episode 358
Show notes
What happens inside the brain during an affair—and why can an unfaithful spouse become so consumed by someone they barely know? In this episode, Lisa Limehouse explores how dopamine, novelty, limerence, cognitive dissonance, and compartmentalization can fuel the fantasy and deception surrounding infidelity.
You’ll learn why an affair can feel addictive, how the unfaithful spouse may rewrite the history of the marriage to justify betrayal, and why secrecy can strengthen the brain’s reward cycle. Lisa also explains the difference between understanding the neuroscience of an affair and excusing the choices that caused it.
If you are the betrayed spouse, this episode will help you understand why the affair’s intensity does not mean the affair partner was more valuable, desirable, or compatible than you. If you are the unfaithful spouse, you’ll discover why ending the affair requires more than waiting for your feelings to disappear—it requires no contact, complete honesty, accountability, renewed thinking, and genuine character transformation.
Grounded in Scripture, neuroscience, and current research, this episode offers truth and hope for Christian couples healing from infidelity, sexual betrayal, and marital deception.

Why Does My Cheating Spouse Seem Fine While I’m Falling Apart? | E351
Episode 357
Show notes
Why does your cheating spouse seem completely fine while you are falling apart after discovering the affair? Why can they work, laugh, eat, and sleep normally while you are overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts, anxiety, anger, and grief?
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa Limehouse, formerly Beauty Beyond Betrayal, Lisa explains the neuroscience behind these painfully different reactions. You’ll learn how betrayal trauma affects the betrayed spouse’s brain and nervous system—and how compartmentalization, emotional suppression, avoidance, shame, and moral disengagement may allow an unfaithful spouse to appear unaffected.
We’ll also examine the biblical difference between regret, remorse, and genuine repentance—and why you should look for consistent fruit instead of relying on tears, apologies, or outward emotion.
If you’re wondering, “Why am I suffering while they seem fine?” this episode will help you understand that you are not weak, unforgiving, or crazy. Your response makes sense after what you have experienced.

Should You Tell Your Children About the Affair? What Parents Need to Know | E350
Episode 356
Show notes
Should you tell your children about the affair—and how much should they know? Talking to kids about infidelity requires honesty, wisdom, and careful protection of their emotional safety.
Children often sense that something is wrong long before they understand what has happened. They notice the tension, tears, arguments, closed doors, and sudden changes in the family. When no one explains what is happening, their developing brains may fill in the gaps—and they may even come to believe the problem is their fault.
In this episode, Lisa explains how to speak the truth without burdening your children with adult details. Using Scripture, neuroscience, and current research, you will learn:
• The difference between healthy privacy and damaging secrecy
• How marital conflict affects a child’s nervous system
• When children may need to be told about an affair
• How to adjust the conversation for different ages
• What children need to hear to feel safe
• What parents should never disclose
• How to avoid blame, triangulation, and loyalty conflicts
• Why children need reassurance more than graphic informationYou will also hear practical examples of what you can say to younger children, older children, and teenagers.

Why Do I Feel Crazy After Betrayal? Understanding Betrayal Trauma | E349
Episode 355
Show notes
Do you feel anxious, obsessive, forgetful, emotionally overwhelmed, or completely unlike yourself after discovering an affair, pornography use, or sexual betrayal? You are not crazy—your brain and nervous system are responding to a devastating loss of safety.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa, she explains how betrayal trauma affects the brain through fight, flight, freeze, amygdala activation, hypervigilance, and fragmented memories. You’ll learn why you keep replaying what happened, asking the same questions, searching for answers, and reacting intensely to seemingly small triggers.
Drawing from Scripture, neuroscience, and current trauma research, Lisa shares three practical steps to help you regulate your nervous system, understand your reactions, and begin rebuilding safety through truth, consistency, and evidence.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
• Why betrayal can produce trauma-like symptoms
• How the brain’s threat-detection system responds after discovery
• What fight, flight, freeze, and fawn may look like in betrayal recovery

Why Do Good Men Cheat? The Hidden Roots of Affairs and Sexual Addiction | E348
Episode 354
Show notes
Why do good men cheat—even when they love God, love their wives, and say their marriage matters? In this episode, Lisa Limehouse explains the hidden roots of infidelity, pornography, and sexual addiction without excusing the choices that cause betrayal.
Using Scripture, neuroscience, and current research, Lisa explores how emotional avoidance, entitlement, secrecy, compartmentalization, and unguarded opportunities can gradually lead a man away from integrity. You’ll also learn five practical ways a man can safeguard his heart, interrupt destructive sexual patterns, establish real accountability, and protect his marriage before temptation becomes betrayal.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
• Why a good reputation is not the same as strong character
• How pornography and sexual behavior can become emotional escape
• Why dopamine strengthens cue-and-reward patterns without removing personal responsibility
• How entitlement turns pain into permission
• Why secrecy creates a dangerous divided life
• Five biblical and practical safeguards against affairs and sexual addictionUnderstanding the root is not the same as excusing the behavior. Healing begins when a man brings what is hidden into the light, takes full ownership, and chooses truth over image—one decision at a time.

Why Shame Keeps Men Trapped in Porn Addiction and Affairs | E347
Episode 353
Show notes
Why does shame keep you trapped in pornography, affairs, or other sexually destructive behaviors—even when you genuinely want to change?
Shame does not simply make you feel bad about what you have done. It can activate the brain’s stress response, increase the urge to escape, and drive you back toward the very behavior you promised yourself, your spouse, and God you would stop. This creates a painful cycle: shame produces emotional distress, sexual behavior offers temporary relief, and the secrecy and damage that follow create even more shame.
In this episode of Marriage Redesigned with Lisa Limehouse, formerly the Beauty Beyond Betrayal podcast, Lisa explains:
• The critical difference between healthy guilt and destructive shame
• How the shame–cortisol–escape cycle reinforces compulsive sexual behavior
• Why pornography and affairs can become forms of emotional escape
• How secrecy protects addiction and prevents genuine healing
• The difference between biblical conviction and condemnation
• Three practical, Christ-centered steps you can take toward freedom todayFreedom from shame does not mean avoiding responsibility. It means learning to face the truth, accept accountability, and step into the light without believing that your worst decisions have become your permanent identity.

How Can a Man Love His Wife and Still Cheat? Why Men Compartmentalize Affairs | E346
Episode 352
Show notes
How can a man love his wife, care for his family, attend church—and still maintain an affair, watch pornography, or live a secret sexual life? In this episode, Lisa explains why some men compartmentalize infidelity and sexual sin, how the brain separates conflicting identities, and why understanding this behavior does not excuse betrayal.
You’ll discover how shame, emotional avoidance, cognitive dissonance, moral disengagement, and the brain’s reward system can help sustain a double life. Lisa also shares five biblical and practical ways the unfaithful spouse can stop compartmentalizing, embrace genuine repentance, rebuild integrity, and begin creating safety after betrayal.
