  1. Matthew 24:21 The Certainty of the Great Tribulation

    Show notes

Jerusalem expected God to judge her enemies. Jesus announced that judgment was coming upon Jerusalem herself.

Why was the Great Tribulation inevitable? What made that generation’s guilt so great? And how could their opposition to Christ advance the very Kingdom they sought to prevent?

Listen as Pastor Matt presents a judgment that was both decreed & deserved—and a warning for nations, churches, families, & individuals who mistake past blessings for guarantees of future immunity.

The Temple would fall. Christ’s Kingdom would stand.

  2. Acts 5:29-32 What Matters

    Show notes

True allegiance to Christ is revealed when obedience comes at a cost. In this passage, the apostles’ bold confession points us to the crucified, risen, and exalted King who gives repentance and forgiveness. Faith in this merciful Savior bears fruit in costly obedience, sustained by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

  3. Acts 5:21-28 Compliance and Defiance

    Show notes

In this passage the apostles’ courageous obedience exposes the futility of the Sanhedrin’s attempts to suppress the gospel and preserve its authority. The council’s growing confusion and frustration reveal that no earthly power can restrain the advance of Christ’s kingdom or silence the testimony of His people.

  4. Acts 5:17-21 Jealousy, Justice, and Jurisdiction

    Show notes

The Sanhedrin attempt to suppress the apostolic witness because they are jealous of Christ’s growing kingdom. But God overturns their judgment and reasserts his authority in the very place where they believe themselves to be supreme.

  5. Acts 5:12-16 Terrifying Excitement

    Show notes

This passage presents the judgment that terrifies, the evidence that excites, and the God who calls. As God’s holiness drives away casual association and His power draws the attention of the crowds, Christ continues to build His church by adding sinners to Himself.

  6. Matthew 24:15-21 Bravely Run Away

    Show notes

We usually think courage means standing your ground. But what if faithfulness requires you to run?

In Matthew 24:15–21, Jesus prepares His disciples for a moment when everything they had been taught to defend—the city, the Temple, their possessions, their way of life—must be left behind.

Sometimes bravery means standing and fighting. Sometimes it means leaving behind what has always felt safe and trusting that obedience to Christ is safer than the strongest walls men can build.

  7. Matthew 24:15 The Sign of the End of the Age: The Abomination of Desolation

    Show notes

For generations, the “abomination of desolation” seemed easy to identify.

Antiochus desecrated the temple. Sacrifices stopped. The sanctuary was left desolate. Daniel’s words appeared to have been fulfilled.

    Then Jesus said:

“When you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet…”

    Daniel wasn’t finished.

In Matthew 24:15, Jesus reveals that the greater desolation was still ahead—and that what sounded like the end of everything would ultimately reveal the finished sacrifice, the enthroned Priest-King, and the birth of a new temple made of living stones.

  8. Matthew 24:14b The Birth Pangs of the Kingdom: From Testimony to Judgment

    Show notes

Israel’s rulers condemned Jesus. God raised Him from the dead. Before Jerusalem faced judgment, the nations would hear heaven’s verdict: the crucified Jesus is Lord.

Join us as we trace the apostles’ witness from Jerusalem to the courts of kings, discovering how Christ’s resurrection and fulfilled prophetic word establish His reign. In this testimony, we encounter God’s patience, the certainty of His judgment, and the confidence that should shape our obedience to the King today.

  9. Matthew 24:14 — The Birth Pangs of the Kingdom: From Persecution to Proclamation

    Show notes

Is Matthew 24:14 a missionary countdown—a promise that Christ will return once the gospel reaches every modern nation, language, and people group?

That familiar interpretation misses both Jesus’ words and their first-century setting. Jesus wasn’t telling His disciples how they could trigger the Second Coming. He was promising that, despite fierce persecution, the gospel of His kingdom would be proclaimed throughout the Roman world before the end of the Old Covenant age.

But did that actually happen? Listen as Pastor Matt points us to where the New Testament itself says it did.

  10. Acts 4:36-5:11 Where God Dwells

    Show notes

This passage reminds us that the God who dwells among His covenant people is holy. Through the judgment of Ananias and Sapphira, we see that God’s presence demands sincere obedience and holy fear from those who draw near to Him

  11. Acts 4:32-37 A People in Common

    Show notes

This passage reveals a new covenant community united around the risen Christ even as the old covenant order fractures around them. Their unity, generosity, and care for one another display the fruit of Christ’s kingdom and the faithfulness Israel had failed to produce.

  12. Acts 4:23-31 Kiss the Son

    Show notes

In Acts 4, the disciples recognize the opposition of Israel’s rulers and the Gentiles as the raging nations of Psalm 2 gathering against God’s Anointed King. Rather than retreat, the church prays for boldness to proclaim Christ. May we be ever confident that the risen King has received the nations and His kingdom cannot be stopped!

  13. Acts 4:18-22 We Cannot Not

    Show notes

What happens when those entrusted with authority become enemies of justice? Acts 4:18–22 shows that authority is good but never absolute, and when human authority conflicts with Christ, Christians must recognize and obey the higher authority.

What happens when an opponent can no longer win the argument? They resort to ad hominem, suppression, and intimidation. Luke shows us that is exactly what happened with the Sanhedrin court with Peter and John.

  15. Matthew 24:10–13 — The Birth Pangs of the Kingdom: For the Purpose of Purification

In Matthew 24:10–13, Jesus reveals that persecution wasn't merely something the early church endured—it was something Christ used. The birth pangs preceding Jerusalem's destruction would expose false disciples, purify the visible church, and reveal those whose faith was genuine.
This message explores the intentional connection between Matthew 24 and the Parable of the Soils, showing that Jesus had already explained why some would fall away, why others would be deceived, and why only those who endure would be revealed as His true disciples.

Jerusalem was headed for judgment—but Jesus’ next warning was even more personal. Before the Temple fell, His disciples would be arrested, beaten, & killed, at the hands of Jews and Gentiles alike because they confessed His name.

A few questions beg for answers. Why would that confession provoke such opposition? Would such persecution remain a permanent aspect of Christ’s Kingdom—or can the church work toward peaceful and quiet lives?

Listen as Pastor Matt explains Matthew 24:9—The Birth Pangs of the Kingdom: The Persecution of the Church—and why the church can expect the blessings of the Kingdom in this life, as well as reward in the life to come.

  17. Matthew 24:4-8- What the Sign Isn’t: Three Distractions the Disciples Must Avoid

    Show notes

Wars. False messiahs. Famines. Pestilences. Earthquakes.
For generations, Christians have pointed to these events as signs that the end of the world must be near. But Jesus says something very different: “See that you are not frightened…that is not yet the end.”
Before telling His disciples what the sign would be, Jesus first warned them what the sign was not. False christs would attempt to lead them astray. Fighting nations would threaten to frighten them. Frightening disasters would shake the world around them. But these events were not the decisive sign. They were only “the beginning of birth pangs.”
In this message, we examine the biblical and historical evidence surrounding the years between Christ’s resurrection and Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70—and discover why these upheavals were not evidence that Christ’s kingdom had failed, but that the old covenant order was passing away and the reign of the true Messiah was advancing.
Join us as we consider three distractions the disciples had to avoid—and why Matthew 24:4–8 is not describing the end of the world.

  18. Matthew 24:3- The Unsettled Dilemma: When Will These Things Happen?

Jesus has declared that the Temple will be utterly destroyed. The disciples know what is coming. Their unsettled dilemma is when.
“Tell us, when will these things happen, & what will be the sign of Your coming, & of the end of the age?” — Matthew 24:3
These are not the speculative questions of prophecy-chart enthusiasts. They are the trembling questions of men whose entire covenantal world has just been shaken.
    The Temple will fall.
The Old Covenant age will end.
The Son of Man will be vindicated.
The Kingdom will no longer be centered in Jerusalem, but in the risen Christ ruling from heaven.
Listen as Pastor Matt explains what the disciples were asking when they asked, 'When Will These Things Happen?'

Peter and John had the full weight of the political and religious apparatus stacked against them. This passage shows how the Christian today should expect the cultural pressure to be mobilized against them and how they can confidently stand against that pressure.
