40/40 is Better Than 15/15 (Twins-Rangers Recap, 9/25-9/27)
Season 7, Episode 58
Show notes
For the last time during the regular season, David and Dan recap a Minnesota Twins series, and it's another good one for the Twins, who take two of three from the playoff-contending Texas Rangers at Target Field. David and Dan were conflicted, though, because the result of the series meant the Houston Astros won the AL West and got a spot in the postseason. Dan recalls an episode of the show six years ago to the day; David wonders what jerseys we will see most frequently in five years at Target Field. They marvel at the fact that this was the most victories Derek Shelton has ever managed an MLB team to, and they dare to dream about more victories with this young core next season. They also make their picks in the MLB postseason and look ahead to what they hope will be a memorable playoff. Thank you all for listening, and always, go Twins!

The Young Guys Keep Bringing It (Twins-Giants Recap, 9/21-9/23)
Season 7, Episode 57
Show notes
Out on the west coast, the Minnesota Twins take two of three from the San Francisco Giants, and David and Dan are excited about what it means for the team's future. David is ready to start calling Walker Jenkins "Captain America." Dan is ready to anoint Taj Bradley as an ace. Both are ever so hopeful that baseball will indeed happen in 2027. Dan asks David which seven players he would give long-term contracts to (and which he would not). They also make their crucial selections for Puckett's Picks, which is coming down to the year's final series. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

9 Wraps to 1 (Twins-Angels Recap, 9/17-9/20)
Season 7, Episode 56
Show notes
With the focus turned toward next year in so many ways, David and Dan were pleased overall with much of what they saw in this Minnesota Twins series split with the (Los Angeles) Angels in Anaheim. David is trying to tamp down his optimism about 2027, given what he has seen from players like Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez. He's not sure, though, how exactly they will end up in the same lineup as Byron Buxton. Dan has questions about the back end of the bullpen after a couple more implosions, though he is confident about the starting rotation. Puckett's Picks is coming down to the wire, so if there's nothing else at stake this week, there is at least that. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

Let's Just Hear the Rest of It (Twins-Yankees Recap, 9/14-9/16)
Season 7, Episode 55
Show notes
Hoges joins Dan to discuss the Twins' slow burn toward the end of the season, which included a win-one-in-three series against the New York Yankees at Target Field. Hoges sneaks in plenty of pro-Packers jabs, even though the Packers lost to the Vikings last weekend. Dan tries to keep the show focused on the Twins, who played a mostly listless Game 1 and Game 2 before striking back in Game 3 against the evil empire of the East. They consider which players have impressed them most this season while also assessing the work of first-year Twins manager Derek Shelton. Puckett's Picks becomes a hot segment, and Dan introduces a new factor in his grading system. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

An Assortment of Other Guys (Twins-Guardians Recap 9/11-9/13)
Season 7, Episode 54
Show notes
The Minnesota Twins drop 2 of 3 to the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field. The guys are disappointed in the Twins showing, but they couldn't hide their glee at the Vikings victory over the Packers. Dan is wondering if he should be nervous about Joe Ryan's rocky return from injury, but David tries his best to calm his fears. David is wondering if Derek Shelton second guessed his decision to use Gomez in a non-save situation, while Dan wants to know what will this outfield look like next season. Dan is also curious if we will ever see a Prime-Non-Injured Byron Buxton ever again. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!

No Anchor To Hang Your Hat On (Twins-Tigers Series Recap, 9/7-9/9)
Season 7, Episode 53
Show notes
Dan and Hoges are hanging onto the smallest bit of hope now after the Twins lost two of three in Detroit to the Tigers. Hoges, filling in for David, still needs to see the Minnesota Twins lose to the Cleveland Guardians to truly let go of any playoff hopes, even though his heart gave up after Game 1 of this series. Dan is already looking toward the offseason, but he's wondering whether Walker Jenkins is going to produce better next year than he has so far. When trying to explain what has gone wrong in August and September, Hoges points to something about every aspect of the team. He's also wondering: What are the Twins doing with Trevor Larnach? Waiting for That Last Nail (Twins-White Sox Series Recap, 9/4-9/6)
Season 7, Episode 52
Show notes
It might be the end ... but maybe it's not the end. It's been hard to tell just when, exactly, the Minnesota Twins season is or will be over from a playoff hopes standpoint. Surely, though, losing two out of three to the Chicago White Sox did not help their cause. David and Dan discuss how much hope they should have left and when we should be turning focus to how what remains of this season could affect the 2027 season. David is looking at Ryan Jeffers and sees a lot of senioritis; Dan is asking whether it's time to shut down Byron Buxton and the other veterans. They look around at the scandal at Coors Field and also the scandal in Ann Arbor, and they harbor enough hope on this season to make their picks for the Tigers series. Kent Hrbek in the Produce Aisle (Twins-Tigers Series Recap, 8/31-9/2)
Season 7, Episode 51
Show notes
There is less than a month of the regular season remaining and the Minnesota Twins continue to tread water along the edge of the wild card following a series win over the Detroit Tigers. Both David and Dan lament the Game 3 loss and all the chances the Twins had to win it before the Tigers did. David is happy to see Derek Shelton doing everything he can to win games; Dan likes what he sees when Kody Clemens hits a home run. They are perplexed as to how the Twins will explain not calling up Walker Jenkins earlier, and they both are excited about what the future holds for this team as they hope for baseball in 2027. Season 7, Episode 50
Show notes
The Minnesota Twins drop 2 of 3 to the Chicago White at Target Field in Minneapolis. "The Chaos" Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for Dan and the boys try and keep their spirits high feeling that the postseason chances are slipping away from the Twins. Hoges is pumped about Walker Jenkins MLB debut, and David relishes Luke Keaschall's stellar series performance. David gives his plug for the Minnesota State Fair, while Hoges tries to start an international conflict. The guys look forward to what this roster may look like in 2027, and breakdown the Twins remaining schedule. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!

This is Where it Hurts (Twins-Athletics Series Recap, 8/24-8/26)
Season 7, Episode 49
Show notes
Much to the disappointment of David and Dan, and most certainly the Minnesota Twins as well, the Twins lose two of three in Sacramento to the Athletics, the team with the worst record in the American League. And to make it worse, Byron Buxton has aggravated his hip injury. David analyzes that play and worries that Luke Keaschall may not be up to the task of playing center field. Dan is curious if Derek Shelton has a little Herb Brooks in him, and David delves again into the murky waters of Walker Jenkins' call-up status. There is still hope, they agree, but that hope is slim, and much rides on the next stretch of series against AL Central teams. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

Generic Player No. 4 (Twins-Padres Series Recap, 8/21-8/23)
Season 7, Episode 48
Show notes
The back-and-forth nature of the Minnesota Twins' relationship with the National League continued this weekend as the Twins lost all three games they played in San Diego to the surging Padres. David got the result he expected, though he and Dan hoped for better in Game 2. Dan has questions for Derek Shelton about his pitching choices in Game 1, but David defends the manager's work in Game 2. David has yet to hear a good argument about when it's OK to change your fandom, though Dan sees a way to make it legitimate. They both are confused about Luke Keaschall's haircut, and they question Kaelen Culpepper's judgment at shortstop. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

Season 7, Episode 47
Show notes
In one of the bigger surprises of a surprising season, the Minnesota Twins didn't just beat the Atlanta Braves in a series -- they swept them at Target Field. David, fresh off attending two of the games, is full of praise for manager Derek Shelton, for DH Josh Bell and for many more members of a team that is now alone in the third AL wild card position. Dan is still hung up on the absence of Walker Jenkins and the call-up instead of Alex Jackson. Both are happy to see the success of the Twins' bullpen since the deadline. Season 7, Episode 46
Show notes
After looking as if they might salvage a victory in this three-game series, the Minnesota Twins get swept by the Philadelphia Phillies: one game in Iowa and two more at Target Field. David, who was in Iowa for its state fair, sees the Minnesota State Fair as far better than what Iowa offered. Dan is convinced that he must make a trip to the Field of Dreams at some point, even if the Twins aren't playing there. Both of them are still hopeful about the Twins' chances considering the schedule ahead, and they are curious to see who gets called up to take Austin Martin's spot after the outfielder injured his hamstring on Sunday. One Small Step for Alan Roden (Twins-Orioles Series Recap, 8/10-8/12)
Season 7, Episode 45
Show notes
Playing at home for the first time in August, the Minnesota Twins took two of three games against the Baltimore Orioles, a fellow AL Wild Card contender. David mounts a defense of Alan Roden that frankly confuses Dan, who is ready to send Roden back to Triple-A to clear a roster spot for Byron Buxton. They are equally mixed on what to do with Kaelen Culpepper while being impressed with the play lately from Josh Bell in the DH spot. They discuss the strange play in the Blue Jays-Red Sox game earlier this week as well as a darkhorse bid for an MLB expansion team. And then, of course, they make their picks for a fun series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which opens at the Field of Dreams in Iowa. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

All the Colors of Royce Lewis (Twins-Brewers Series Recap, 8/7-8/9)
Season 7, Episode 44
Show notes
After the Minnesota Twins took the first game in this three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers, David and Dan found themselves wanting another victory. But they and the Twins settle for just one in this border battle against the National League's best team. David shares his experiences from watching the Savannah Bananas at Target Field with his family, and he works through the ups and downs of Royce Lewis' performance this series. Dan is pleased to see Kody Funderburk's excellent play over the last couple of months, and he, like David, thinks that if Kaelen Culpepper is on this team, surely Walker Jenkins should be, too. More Than a Deadline (Twins-Royals Series Recap, 8/4-8/6)
Season 7, Episode 43
Show notes
It wasn't the outcome that might have been expected after the way the Minnesota Twins handled the MLB trade deadline, but the Twins do come away with one victory in Kansas City, and they still managed to keep pace in the AL Central. David and Dan discuss the close competition for playoff spots in the American League and how they think the Twins will figure in that as they head into a difficult stretch of opponents. They are at odds over whether Tom Pohlad can be trusted, even after coming through with some trades this week. But they are in agreement that Royce Lewis looks great, Joe Ryan should have said something earlier, and that there are two key prospects waiting in St. Paul who should no longer be waiting for their call-up. So Many Echoes (Twins-Mariners Series Recap, 7/31-8/2)
Season 7, Episode 42
Show notes
The Minnesota Twins lost two of three to the Seattle Mariners, both of them in walk-off fashion, ending a series that felt eerily like the Twins' last trip to Seattle -- and in a way, much like an inversion of their most recent series against the Kansas City Royals. Hoges fills in for the traveling David again to discuss the series with Dan, who was able to attend all three games in Seattle. Dan pins a lot of blame on the starters' troubles in the first inning, and Hoges pins plenty of blame on Royce Lewis for his mishandling of the last play of Game 2. They also discuss the future of Trevor Larnach, Victor Caratini and Alex Jackson, and they assess the new bullpen order after the trades this week. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

The Team That Never Dies (Twins-Royals Series, 7/28-7/30)
Season 7, Episode 41
Show notes
Sandwiched around one of their most disappointing games of the season were two of the Minnesota Twins' most exciting ones, with walk-off hits from Royce Lewis and Kody Clemens giving them a series victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for David and raves about the walk-offs as well as the Twins' bullpen, which made both the victories possible. Dan stands pat with his feelings about the trade deadline, while Hoges is still prepared to trade one of the team's key players so long as Minnesota gets a good return. They look around the league at Tariq Skubal's possible landing spots, and generally they just bask in the joy of watching a team in late July contend for the playoffs. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

The Quadrants of the Heart (Twins-Athletics Series Recap, 7/24-7/26)
Season 7, Episode 40
Show notes
The Minnesota Twins took two of three from the visiting Athletics and gained a little ground on their AL Central Division rivals as the race tightens one week ahead of the trade deadline. David grills Dan for his opinion about which players should be traded before then; Dan is wondering how the Twins find a way to get Walker Jenkins onto this roster. David praises the pitching staff's performance but questions Derek Shelton's use of a newly healthy reliever, and Dan slips up and calls the Twins' third catcher by the wrong first name. Thanks for listening, and go Twins!

More Questions Than Answers (Twins-Guardians Recap, 7/20-7/23)
Season 7, Episode 39
Show notes
The Minnesota Twins split a four game series against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for Dan and the boys have mixed feelings about the Twins performance on the road trip. The guys question a lot of Derek Shelton's decisions, and they have nothing but questions about this roster heading into the trade deadline. Hoges is upset with ESPN's Power Rankings, and wants David to join him on a road trip to Iowa. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!
