Most Likely to Teen Movie

It’s the first day of high school, and the untalented, ugly gays gather at their lockers to discuss what they love most: Teen Movies! We discuss what we think the teen movie is, the Teenage Bill of Rights (1945), and nostalgia’s role in the teen movie. BO-RRRING!!!! Bring on the muscle cars and masculinity as we discuss: American Graffiti (1973)! Eric takes Meaks and Luke to Shop, Sex Ed (hot!), and Art History.

Notes Passed in Class:

• Risky behavior is important for teenage life!
• Epilogue title cards are dumb!
• Be curious about your female characters!
• Gender politics of the film are… terrible!
• George Lucas is deeply heterosexual, but Toad’s lust for Milner’s car gives us hope!

Homework:

• Teenage Bill of Rights
• Machines of Youth: America’s Car Obsession by Gary S. Cross
• Hays Code
• For the highly homoerotic muscle car teen, watch Rebel Without a Cause
