Native Land Pod
In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.
In each episode, Angela, Bakari, and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls.
Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' This isn't just news analysis; it's a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

The N-Word Debate | Cite Your Source
Show notes
In this episode of Cite Your Source with Angela Rye tackles the N-word debate head on and what it really means in 2026 -- Who gets to say it, who gets a pass, and who benefits from keeping the debate alive?
The word has been argued over for decades stemming from its racial disparagement roots and the conversation hasn’t gotten any simpler. Angela sits down with a panel of experts including Charlamagne Tha God, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Delano Squires, and more to separate history from hot takes, and to ask whether the fight over the word is taking up space that could go towards bigger issues.

Why Does Everybody Want to Say the N-Word? | Angela Rye SoloPod
Show notes
It’s in our music, our group chats, and some of our most painful memories. But familiarity hasn’t erased the history of the N-word or the weight it carries. Angela explores how a word used to degrade and terrorize Black people became, for some, an expression of familiarity, identity, and connection. What does reclaiming it actually mean? Does changing the ending change its impact? And why do so many people outside the Black community feel entitled to say it? It’s a conversation about language, power, and why who says it still matters.
Our guest is Dr. Hiram Smith, author of “Wassup, My Nigga Book.”

Show notes
Mississippi’s attorney general, Lynn Fitch, and her office have cleared the Senatobia police of wrongdoing after one of their officers shot and killed a 1-year-old in a Walmart Parking lot last summer.
The A.G.’s office said the use of force was “justified” since the officer felt threatened, alleging that the child’s mother was in a vehicle driving toward them. The Senatobia police have not released any footage from the event.

Are We Bold Enough to Finish What Our Ancestors Started?
Show notes
What is our duty to the ancestors? Particularly for those in power.
Barack Obama asked himself this question in an interview with author Ta-Nehasi Coates. Chicago’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, joins us to answer it as well.
Violent crimes in Chicago (despite what Trump is saying) are falling, in 2025 they hit a decade-low. How did they do it??
Join hosts Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers, and Andrew Gillum for episode 152 of Native Land Pod. We are 26 days away from the midterm elections. Welcome home y’all!
