Indie Game Roundup - October 2026
Show notes
Welcome back to the NSG Indie Game Roundup, our monthly series featuring indie games news, plus game demos and new release discussions.
To put it bluntly: we were fools. We somehow convinced ourselves that October would not be as busy, hectic and packed with new indie game releases as September. Boy, were we wrong. We've got indie game demos from several different events to share with you this month, from LudoNarraCon, to Steam Next Fest. Plus an assortment of new releases, including some games that were among our most anticipated titles of 2026!
We are also extremely excited to announce that we are once again partnering with Dark Cocooning on another Weird Days event! This time around, that includes hosting our very first games showcase! The Weird Days: Dark Tales by Warm Light kicks off on November 2 with a 90 minute showcase, featuring 70 indie games that all celebrate the creepy, yet cozy side of indie games, hosted by the two of us! The party doesn't end there, though! The festivities continue on Steam from November 2-9 with special deals, featured programming, developer interviews and more! You can check out the Weird Days: Dark Tales by Warm Light Steam Event Page starting on November 2, and don't forget to catch the showcase on YouTube and Twitch, premiering that day at 2pm Eastern.
Also, huge thanks to our newest Patreon supporters! In addition to other fun perks, members on Patreon get early access to all of the Indie Game Roundup episodes. If you love No Small Games and would like to support us in growing the show, while also unlocking fun, exclusive content, you can check out our Patreon page.

Ep. 73 - Project Songbird
Episode 73
Show notes
Project Songbird, developed by Connor Rush and FYRE Games, is a 2026 narrative horror game set deep in the Appalachian forests. Singer-songwriter Dakota is struggling with writer's block and needs to escape their intrusive, dark memories to focus on producing their music. Project Songbird combines survival horror gameplay with a traditional narrative walking sim experience. Players must help Dakota confront their inner demons and make it out of the woods in one piece.
In episode 73 of No Small Games, we're getting into the Halloween spirit by confronting the two scariest things we could thing of: horrifying monsters and emotional vulnerability. We discuss the triumphs and downfalls of this iteration on survival horror gameplay, along with our impressions of Dakota's journey. Best of all, we dig in to the themes of the story, that center around what it means to create things for ourselves, for other people, and how to survive the pressure of expectations.Timestamps

Ep. 72 - Sovereign Tower feat. Robin Bea
Episode 72
Show notes
Sovereign Tower, developed by Wild Wits Games and published by Curve Games, plucks you from obscurity and drops you atop the throne of a small, humble kingdom. Without warning, it becomes your role to listen to subjects and determine whose requests get granted, to develop relationships with potential allies, and to protect the sovereignty of your rule. To do this, you must gather a band of fearsome knights to your round table. You'll be able to choose their quests and strategically send them out on missions that require their specialized skills and hopefully also meet their goals for personal fulfillment. Yes, it is essentially medieval Dispatch, in the best way.
In Episode 72, we're joined by Robin Bea to discuss the many shenanigans we engaged in during our playthroughs of Sovereign Tower. You'll hear about our successes in dating around the tower, and who we chose to ally ourselves with. A heads up to anyone who wants to play the game: every choice matters and the narrative begins to branch meaningfully and quickly, so our narrative discussion will contain some spoilers, even before our official spoiler section. We had a delight chatting with Robin about this incredibly special game, and we hope you enjoy the chat!Timestamps

Indie Game Roundup - September 2026
Show notes
Welcome back to the NSG Indie Game Roundup, our monthly series featuring indie games news, plus game demos and new release discussions.
If you thought your Indie Game of the Year pick or top 10 of 2026 was locked in, September probably threw all of that out of whack. It certainly made us question everything we previously thought, because this month was relentless with its deluge of incredible indies. From Well Dweller, to Woodo, to Sucker for Love, we really drew from every genre and vibe this month in our selection. We're also looking ahead to October, because 2026 does not appear to be slowing down with the game releases.

Ep. 71 - Wax Heads feat. Kevin Cortez
Episode 71
Show notes
Wax Heads, developed by Patattie Games, is a slice-of-life visual novel mixed with a record store management sim. You'll spend your shifts at Repeater Records recommending albums to a parade of strange and charming customers, learning about the panoply of fascinating artists from the Wax Heads cinematic universe, and chatting with your coworkers. Everyone on staff at the store has a fascinating backstory to unpack, but none more than your elusive boss, Morgan Macintyre. But just as you're getting to know and love the store, your customers, and your colleagues, the threat of a closure begins to loom. Can Repeater Records be saved?
In Episode 71, we had the pleasure of chatting with content creator Kevin Cortez about this quirky musical-centered game. Everyone had their own personal experience of spending day in and day out recommending music to the Repeater Records customers, and you'll get to hear about everyone's favorite coworkers. Most importantly, perhaps, you'll also hear our definitive berry rankings!Timestamps

Show notes
We're bringing you along for our first PAX West in Seattle! We're stoked to share all the indie demos, side events, and shenanigans!

But we played more indie game demos than ever at this PAX! We also got to attend some wonderfully indie-centric side events like the MIX Fall Showcase and the Seattle Indies Expo. We're a little loopy from all the travel, but we hope you enjoy this recap of all the games we got to check out, including some exclusive sneak peeks!

Ep. 69 - Mixtape feat. Brendon Bigley & AJ Fillari
Episode 69
Show notes
Mixtape is a cinematic narrative adventure developed by Beethoven and Dinosaur and published by Annapurna. In the few months between its release and the time of this recording, it earned itself many accolades and also much discussion among the gaming community, for better or worse. Players join three friends on their last night together after senior year of high school. Knowing they have just a few hours together before their lives change forever, they set out to have the most epic night ever, including an iconic soundtrack. The game features tracks from DEVO, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, The Cure, and many more artists who created the vibe for a generation.
It's Episode 69, so of course we had to make it extra... nice! This is the first time we're welcoming two guests from different shows on for one episode, and we're delighted that Brendon and AJ picked out Mixtape to discuss with us. We've all been chomping at the bit to throw our hat into the ring of the Mixtape discourse that briefly set the internet on fire. Ep. 68 - Relooted
Episode 68
Show notes
Relooted, developed and published by Nyamakop, is a strategy heist game with a big dash of free running and a huge amount of charm. You play as Nomali, a free running coach who has to take a break from her career in athletics to rescue her little brother, only to find herself committing to an unexpected career change. She and her crew (which includes her brother Trevor, her grandmother, her best friend, a quirky acrobat from the neighborhood, and more) set off on a new venture to covertly reclaim African artifacts that have been wrongfully held by museums and collectors. And by "covertly reclaim," we mean pull a heist. Actually, many heists.
In episode 68 of No Small Games, we're diving into Relooted to discuss a game that managed to break out of the indie game bubble and initiated discussions in the art and curation world. In fact, this very week of the episode releasing, Relooted just won the award for "Best in Community Empowerment" at the Games for Change Awards in New York. We'll be discussing its emotional and cultural impact, as well as the narrative and gameplay successes. We hope you enjoy this episode and, seriously, go listen to the Relooted soundtrack!!Timestamps

Ep. 67 - Fishbowl
Episode 67
Show notes
Fishbowl, developed by imissmyfriends.studio and published by Wholesome Games Presents, is a quietly emotional narrative game about a young woman processing her grief while the world around her changes forever. You play as Alo, who has just moved to a new city to start a brand new job, just one month after the passing of her dear grandmother. As Alo is coping with this loss, along with all of the changes that come with moving and starting a new job, she learns that her work will abruptly shift to all-remote, due to a surge in illnesses leading to a global pandemic. The experience of living through lockdown while processing her own personal loss is deeply relatable, and takes both Alo and players to many places emotionally, all while staying within the four walls of Alo's apartment.
In episode 67 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily reflect on their own experiences of the pandemic in 2020, as they discuss their time playing Fishbowl. The game brought up many memories for both hosts, as they compare their experiences to Alo's. This conversation was a cathartic flashback to the year that life as we knew it turned upside down. We hope that listening can be cathartic for you as well.Timestamps

Indie Game Roundup - June 2026 feat. CGDannyB
Show notes
Welcome back to the NSG Indie Game Roundup, our monthly series featuring indie games news, plus game demos and new release discussions.
We made it through June and gaming press and podcasters everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief! Don't get us wrong, it was a great month for gaming news, announcements and showcases, but boy, was it a whirlwind! From Summer Game Fest, to some heartbreaking announcements out of Xbox, to the chaos of digging into Steam Next Fest, a lot has happened in the last 30 days. The month was just too big to discuss on our own, so we brought in CGDannyB to help us discuss some of the biggest news stories to touch the indie game space. Ep. 64 - Hermit and Pig feat. Jerica and Kayla, JK! Games!
Episode 64
Show notes
Follow the escapades of two unlikely heroes and community builders in Hermit and Pig, a charmingly odd turn-based RPG. Hermit has grown comfortable in his life of solitude and foraging alongside his best friend, Pig. But the pair feel uncharacteristically called to act when they hear that a local factory has been taken over by a corporation that is firing its workers and destroying the local environment. You must help Hermit and Pig overcome numerous challenges and grow as people... er, yeah, people.
We were so glad to get to chat with our friends at JK! Games! about this singularly quirky and hilarious title. Jerica and Kayla join Kate and Emily to discuss the fast-paced and engaging turn-based combat and unique dialogue mechanics. You'll hear where Hermit and Pig hit its mark, where it fell a little flat, and where it was just so outside the box that it's hard to qualify. We hope you enjoy this episode!Timestamps

Ep. 63 - Cairn feat. Adam Gumbert, The Tier List
Episode 63
Show notes
Cairn, developed by The Game Bakers, is a 2026 survival climbing game that follows world-renowned alpinist Aava as she attempts to single-handedly (well, figuratively, at least) climb one of the highest and most treacherous mountains in the world. Players must familiarize themselves with a unique control schema for climbing and choose their path to ascent wisely as they guide Aava up this formidable peak. In addition to the climbing itself, players need to monitor the supplies she's carrying in her backpack wisely, to make sure Aava never runs out of food or water on her journey. The adventure is harrowing, but so are the emotions that get stirred up on the way to the top.
It was an absolute pleasure to get to talk about this powerful and extremely challenging game with Adam Gumbert, of The Tier List and Respawn Aim Fire podcasts. In this discussion we share our thoughts on the climbing mechanics and whether the survival elements supported or detracted from our experience of the game. We also take a close look at Aava's personal journey and ask ourselves which is the "good" ending and which is the "true" ending of this game.Timestamps

Show notes
Say No! More is a quirky game with a powerful message, developed by Studio Fizbin. You play as a young person, trying to get their footing in a new career, dealing with the pressures of office life. Simultaneously, you're also trying to navigate social pressures, as your roommate keeps asking you to cover their half of the rent, month after month. You'll get to see the power and the consequences of saying "no" to a variety of people, in a variety of manners, and discover the collective power we all have when we encourage each other to put our foot down.
We were delighted to be joined for this episode by Kanisha and Claire of Date with Us, a dating sim podcast, to discuss this unique gaming experience. We chat about which "no" style fits each of us best, our experiences with saying "no" more in our real lives, and the pressures the world puts on us all to say "yes."
