Not Just Tactics

A 35-health, 19-armor warcaster on an 80mm base and he can turn enemy spellcasters into power for even more damage. Chris, Jon, and I break down Terminus, the Dread Hulk’s brutal weapon options, and Jon’s plans for building a list around the colossal. They also explore Aiakos’s Doom-token tricks, which let ranged attacks set enemies up to be dragged toward friendly models, plus a game where Chris’s Gunny feat gave me a surprising way to score: simply stop attacking and take the objectives. Along the way, we share the difficulty with list-building via learned lessons, hobby progress, and preparations for Lock and Load.

The Dread Armada has arrived, and we are diving headfirst into everything the new Cryxian faction, Dread Armada, has to offer. We break down Skarre, Dread Tides, Angram, Dredgers, Blood Hags, Marauders, Reavers, and all the movement shenanigans that have Angus already cooking up questionable ideas. We also talk Lock & Load prep, my growing painting confidence, Dread Armada’s incredible value, upcoming content, and what’s next for the community.

Adam or better known as“Astrangerdanger”, started Warmachine after a friend handed him a huge Menthe force and sealed the deal by showing him how to turn models into a rack. Now he’s back in the game, building community in Oklahoma and testing his way into Colorado’s meta. Adam joins Chris and I to break down Menoth’s new options, including Thyra’s defense-boosting feat and assassination tricks, the hard-hitting Blood of Martyrs, and Malekus paired with the arc-node-like Eye of Truth. Along the way: tournament-team plans, hobby stories, and why Adam came to trust NJT’s community-building wasn’t just a slogan.

A Behemoth tried to stop a moving train and got run over. Warmachine and SFG Lore Master Sherwin Mathews shares the story behind Lock & Load EU's sprawling 20-foot narrative battle, where players can switch tracks, race through tunnels, and even ride the train into the fight, spoilers ahead FYI. Angus, Chris, and I also get into why Dozer is purple (the answer is super simple), how living narrative events can change the fate of characters like Admiral Boomhowler, and how story and rules shape new armies and returning favorites. Along the way: the Dread Armada’s grim bargain with the Orgoth, the future of the Trollbloods, and Sherwin’s own love of the Thornfall Alliance.

Menoth’s new flame-themed army may be more frightening than I first thought. One caster can set enemies ablaze, turn that fire into boosted attacks or damage rolls, then teleport out after an assassination attempt. Chris and I break down Fiora and the starter box’s fire-slinging Crusader, Valeria, Pyrrhus, and Flame Guard Defenders. Ever wonder whether these forces were really designed to fight each other? We also build Chris’s Lock & Load troll list live, hear about my 14–16-hour Abyssal King paint job, and tease a first-of-its-kind episode to come... next epsiode. In this episode, I share my experiences playing two 100-point Warmachine games with my Brinebloods. After being quickly defeated in the first game by a spray-heavy list, I adjusted my army composition for a more competitive second game. The crew and I discuss tactical insights around units like the Abyssal King, Scuttlebutt, and Ragemonger, while debating list-building strategies. We also touch on the War Table digital platform, upcoming community events, painting tips, and the growing mainstream acceptance of tabletop gaming culture, all while looking ahead to the Lock and Load event.

We're BACK! After a much needed break the crew and I return to talk about the new sneak peeks from the Warmachine preview event. We also discuss Chris and Pauls tournament antics and how they faired down at Grognards in Algonquin.

We also are on the hunt to find the random fan of the show who was wearing one of our shirts at NOVA in the team tournament. Shoot us a message if you are them or know who they are. Enjoy.

In this episode, I sit down with Angus and Chris to talk about the recent updates to the Warmachine page on the Steamforged Games website. I point out how much more streamlined the design is now, and how much easier it is to find things like mercenary units and customer support. We also take a moment to celebrate our podcast’s one-year anniversary, which is a huge milestone for us, and I tease an upcoming live stream that we’re all really excited about.

The main topic of the episode is the new caster, Neymar. I share my thoughts on her lore, admitting that I find it a bit underwhelming compared to some of the older casters, which is a bit disappointing. However, I’m really impressed by her gameplay mechanics, especially her unique hunger point generating system, her cavalry abilities, and her strong field marshal skills. Overall, while I have mixed feelings about her backstory, I think Neymar brings some exciting new elements to the game.

In this episode Chris and I dive into the Warmachine hobby with enthusiasm. We review Pro Acryl "One Step" paints, sharing positive experiences with coverage and blending. I talk about a visit to a local Games Workshop store, reinforcing the podcast's "hobby first" philosophy. The main focus is a detailed lore and rules breakdown of two Mercenaries faction models: Constance Blaize & Gallant and General Gunnbjorn. The episode wraps up with excitement about the upcoming Lock and Load convention and a new Discord community merging fitness and wargaming interests.

I break down challenging matches against Paul's ranged-heavy Dusk army and Josh's formidable Ashmael ("Oatmeal") list, discussing struggles with hunger generation and positioning at 30 points. The whole crew is back from vacation and jump straight into everything happening in the world of Warmachine. We talk about the updates on our latest hobby projects, and talk about our push into YouTube with quick, beginner-friendly painting guides and bite-sized tutorials designed to help players get models on the table faster. We also dive into WarTable and what it does well, where it falls short compared to in-person, and why nothing quite replaces rolling dice across the table from your opponent. From league prep and hobby progress to the challenges of building a thriving local community, we share what's been keeping us busy both on and off the tabletop.

We have a malfunction and lose almost 15 minutes of audio, but we continue to make it happen. Finally, we kick off our newest lore series with a discussion of Thunderhead and Azdharak, breaking down what we loved, what didn't quite hit, and where we'd like to see. It's a packed episode full of hobby talk, gameplay discussion, lore, and plenty of laughs, just about everything you need to stay connected to the game and the community that makes it great.
