We LOVED this book and it is among our top reads for the day. Pick it up wherever books are sold.

-The Inheritance Games meets Bridgerton in the riveting companion novel to The Queen's Spade, where our heroine must play a deadly game and risk everything to get to the truth that’s poisoning Victorian England’s royal court.

Favored by Queen Victoria, Vicky Davies has survived royal courts, financial ruin, and the loss of her mother, Sarah Forbes Bonetta — the famous African princess turned royal goddaughter — but Cheltenham Ladies’ College is about to test her in new and wicked ways.

Every Thursday evening, the senior girls play a secret game and Vicky just became their latest pawn. Truths must be confessed, commands obeyed, and whoever claims the coveted title of winner will have her wish granted, no matter how outrageous and seemingly impossible it may be.

But when the game yields frightening and fatal results, Vicky vows to put an end to this ghoulish tradition that twists minds and makes enemies out of friends. With dangerous foes closing in and truths that could shatter her world clawing to the surface, Vicky must uncover the secrets buried not only in Cheltenham but by her own mother. In a school where survival is a gamble, will she emerge victorious — or fall victim to its deadly game?

I don't know what blessed astrology I stepped into when I got Omid Scobie to agree to guest-host the pod BEFORE we knew about Prince Harry and Meghan's Nottingham engagements, but there is no one better to talk to than someone who was there back in 2017 for the couple's first royal visit as a newly engaged couple

Omid was an Honorary Member of the Royal Rota for years and is the NYT Bestselling author of "Finding Freedom", "Endgame" and a fictional series co-authored with Robin Benway called "Royal Spin" that has it's paperback release early next year.

Omid and I get into today's engagements, the press coverage, what's changed in Royal reporting since he was last in the game and why he decided to put himself back in the narrative (sorry I couldn't resist a Hamilton reference) with his brand-new Substack, Off-Script.

Thanks again to Omid and we'll see you next week (Amanda too!)

Hello (Hahhhloohw), it's still Meredith here with your Royal Briefing, but have no fear, Amanda will be back next week and, if not, I'll have one of those Margaret Thatcher Foundation bros deport her back to the States.

In the meantime there's a ton of Royal news to discuss including:

-Former Prince Andrew's court victory & King Charles footing the bill...for the payments he owes for repairs on the Royal Lodge.

-A college professor accused of an actual crime who isn't getting the Dr. Jason Arday treatment.

-A preview of Prince Harry & Meghan's "non-Royal" engagements on Thursday.

-Will & Kate's engagements, especially Charlotte and Catherine 'spotted' on the Tube (Royals, they're just like us!)

-and a very silly story about courtiers being 'too woke' about this particular sport.

In some ways it feels like October 2025 all over again. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is in the news and Meghan is upsetting someone with an As Ever drop.

In today's Rrrroyal Briefing, we discuss Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's legal complaint against the Thames Valley Police in conjunction with his Feb. 2026 arrest, the announcement from unnamed sources that King Charles will not foot the bill, Prince Harry & Meghan spotted out and about and a "holy" uproar over As Ever's Advent Calendar drop, ending things with King Charles upcoming Caribbean Tour and where he stands on the issue of reparations in regards to the transatlantic slave trade.

It was a whirlwind week of royal reports, scandals, rumors, and appearances…and it all left us wondering, “What if Meghan wasn’t the problem after all?”

From (another) security threat seemingly inspired simply by the Sussex family existing in the UK, to allegations of Buckingham Palace taking measures to address “drinking culture” in its staff quarters, it seems that with every passing news cycle we get more evidence all that glitters isn’t, in fact, gold.

Plus, updates on a threatened defamation suit against Charles, Earl Spencer, and discussions of Prince William and Prince Harry’s increasingly different approaches to honoring their mother’s legacy.

This week is all about comings and goings: Prince Edward makes a return trip to Mount Vernon to mark America's 250th, and WME's Ari Emanuel confirms the agency and Meghan split in 2025.

And a social pages photo we somehow missed has us revisiting Natasha Archer's exit from Kensington Palace, plus the Wales equerry who left just before her.

Did the serialization of "Swan Song" do it dirty? How would Charles Spencer's book for his late-sister, Princess Diana, land if Prince Harry's book "Spare" didn't exist? We get into "Swan Song" plus: an op. ed. from an old favorite, an entire article dedicated to Catherine getting off a tractor, the Wales' + their third wheel--Tom Cruise--at the "Digger" premiere, Prince Harry's AI speech snafu in NYC and more.

Enjoy!

When every single day of the week brings us a royal “bombshell,” you know it’s time for an OWTH debrief!

We’re recapping everything from Earl Spencer’s rebuke from King “Recollections May Vary” Charles, to the overlap in public appearances from Prince Harry, the Waleses, and Charles himself.

Plus, some more context on Harry and Meghan’s security struggles since returning to the UK, and a spotlight on the newly engaged Princess Alexandra of Hanover.

This week, we’re remembering Princess Astrid of Norway, as well as the world’s last “master royal coachmaker” - who died before completing his next tribute to the Royal Family.

Plus, updates from the House of Sussex, and a discussion of one of Kate Middleton’s most central patronages - how does it link her to Princess Diana?

Amanda and Meredith catch up on this week’s royal news, including an unintended consequence of the King’s “clarifying” letter about the Sussexes. Seems it has done exactly the opposite, with Uganda’s military chief publicly indicating he’s felt the need to pick a side in the “nonsense.”

Plus, royal fashion breakdowns from recent Wales family appearances and… why did no one acknowledge the 4th anniversary of QEII’s death? The Telegraph’s royal editor has a theory.

It’s back to school season, and even the royals find themselves hitting the books as the fall term begins! With two heirs (and a spare) headed off to their next academic chapter, the royal landscape is getting smarter by the day.

Plus, the attendees for King Harald V’s funeral in Oslo - the largest security operation in Norway’s history - have been announced, and King Charles III felt the need to issue a letter to “stakeholders” clarifying the Sussex family’s status.

This episode is packed with the kind of commentary that makes the headlines make sense… and makes the people writing them look even worse. From Queen Camilla’s (apparent) connection to Dolly Parton to King Charles’s charity quietly putting Camilla’s sister Annabelle Elliot on the payroll, we’ll examine the larger pattern of how palace spin really works.

That, of course, involves the “men in gray suits” that Princess Diana warned us about: the courtiers and strategists who decide which principal is a problem, which scandals vanish, and which royals get protected at all costs. We’re highlighting three major players from the past few decades to shed some light on these shadowy figures at the heart of “The Firm.”

Somehow, the coverage (or, rather, fanfiction) about Harry and Meghan’s UK return has escalated this week… so we’re swapping our favorite batsh*t headlines and deranged takes for this Friday episode!

We’ll also share updates about the King of Norway's health, interesting reporting on King "Everyman" William, an announcement that the British royals will once again (attempt) to tour the Caribbean, and the entertainment legends who we lost this week.

Rumors and reports are swirling that the Sussex family are set to move back to Britain this fall, where Archie and Lilibet will even be enrolled in school. Is setting up a UK home base another sign that Harry and Meghan are pursuing the “half in, half out” model of royal life they first sought in 2020?

All your burning questions about this bombshell reporting, answered! How does King Charles III’s health fit into this decision? What about the Sussexes’ security? Is Meghan simply out of opportunities? And how oh how did the Prince of Wales take the news?
