  1. Second Watch: Keep It SIMPLE | Texas Football | Arch Manning

    Episode 4962

    Show notes

Jeff Howe and Rod Babers reveal how Steve Sarkisian has simplified the Texas passing game to produce two efficient performances from Arch Manning. The new formula emphasizes quick throws, screens, carefully designed deep shots and timely quarterback runs while largely removing intermediate passes. Rod explains why the approach fits Manning’s strengths—and why rediscovering his decisive scrambling ability could unlock another level.

The film also shows how Will Muschamp’s increased use of three-high safety looks has weaponized Rasheem Biles as a pass rusher while allowing Jelani McDonald to patrol the middle. Plus, the guys break down Texas’ struggling run game, Manning’s increased pressure-to-sack rate and the adjustments the Longhorns must make before facing Missouri.

  4. “It’s Going to Be the Death of This Team” | Lunch with the Coach

    Episode 4959

    Show notes

Jeff Howe, Bobby Burton, Coach Bob Shipley and Coach Bryan Erwin diagnose the problems holding back Texas’ offense after the 31–3 win over Mississippi State. The panel explains why the Longhorns keep failing to recognize basic stunts, running into unfavorable defensive numbers and facing unmanageable third downs. Their potential solutions include using more tight ends, moving under center, attaching RPOs and giving Arch Manning greater freedom to escape bad looks before the snap.

The coaches also examine why Will Muschamp’s defense is performing at a championship level, led by Rasheem Biles, Jelani McDonald and a dominant defensive front. With Colin Simmons nearing a return and three difficult road games remaining, the question is clear: can Texas develop a dependable offensive identity before inconsistency costs the Longhorns their playoff opportunity?

  8. Breaking Down the Texas Injury Bug: Who’s In and Who’s Out?

    Episode 4956

    Show notes

Jeff Howe, Bobby Burton and Hank South deliver the latest on six injured Longhorns ahead of Texas’ road test at Missouri. Colin Simmons is believed to have a better-than-50-percent chance of returning from his ankle injury, while Hollywood Smothers received encouraging knee MRI results but continues battling a shoulder issue. Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo are also considered week to week with shoulder and quad injuries.

The crew provides additional intel on Kade Phillips’ nagging groin injury and Graceson Littleton’s uncertain timetable after leaving the Mississippi State game. They also examine how expanded roles for Warren Roberson, Smoke Matthews, Raleek Brown, Michael Terry and Derrek Cooper could help Texas survive its growing injury list during a critical November stretch.

  9. VOICEMAILS: Texas’ O-Line Is WASTING a Championship Defense

    Episode 4955

    Show notes

Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel react to viewer voicemails after Texas’ 31–3 victory over Mississippi State. The biggest concern is an offensive line that has allowed 24 sacks through eight games and ranks near the bottom of the country in tackles for loss surrendered. The guys explain why the problem may not be fixable during the season—and why personnel or staff changes could be coming after another year of protection and run-blocking failures.

The conversation also covers Arch Manning’s gritty, efficient performance and a dominant Texas defense led by Rasheem Biles, Jelani McDonald and Will Muschamp. With Colin Simmons nearing a return, the Longhorns possess a unit capable of competing for a championship. But can Sark manufacture enough offense to survive upcoming road tests against Missouri and LSU?

  10. BURNING Questions: Can Texas’ Offense Catch Up to Its Championship Defense?

    Episode 4954

    Show notes

Jeff Howe, Lifetime Longhorn Marcus Myers and Coach Bob Shipley examine the biggest questions surrounding Texas after its 31–3 victory over Mississippi State. The offensive line surrendered five sacks and eight tackles for loss, leaving the crew concerned about the unit’s communication, physicality and inability to establish a dependable running game. With three difficult road games ahead, Marcus rates his confidence in the rushing attack at just three out of 10.

The outlook is dramatically different on defense, where Will Muschamp has built a championship-caliber unit led by Rasheem Biles, Jelani McDonald and an increasingly disruptive front. The guys debate whether Biles and a healthy Colin Simmons would form the nation’s best defensive duo, what Arch Manning must improve before November’s road tests and whether Texas can discover an offensive identity in time for Missouri.

  12. From the Field: Texas Rolls... But Injury Bug Strikes Again

    Episode 4952

    Show notes

Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel report from the field after Texas’ 31–3 victory over Mississippi State. Rasheem Biles delivered a dominant performance with three sacks, four tackles for loss and two forced fumbles, including one that Maraad Watson returned 61 yards for a touchdown. Arch Manning added 220 yards and three scores as Steve Sarkisian returned to several proven concepts to finally produce a third-quarter touchdown.

The comfortable win came with a significant concern as Ryan Wingo, Cam Coleman, Hollywood Smothers, Graceson Littleton and Kade Phillips all left with injuries. The guys examine Texas’ struggling interior offensive line, five allowed sacks and a running game that averaged fewer than two yards per carry. With three of the next four games on the road, can the Longhorns get healthy and rediscover their rushing attack before facing Missouri?

  16. Max Browne Reveals Texas’ BEST Path With Arch | Steve Sarkisian

    Episode 4948

    Show notes

Former USC quarterback Max Browne joins Bobby Burton to break down Arch Manning, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas offense. Browne explains how Manning delivered cleaner reads and better decisions against Ole Miss, including successfully executing the same concept he missed one week earlier against Florida. He also examines why Sark’s aggressive downfield passing game can showcase Arch’s NFL talent while still creating unnecessary pressure on the quarterback.

Browne reveals why Texas’ best offensive identity may involve letting its playmakers “drive the car” while Manning operates more as a game manager. The conversation explores the offensive line’s protection problems, the need for more screens, bubbles and quick throws, and whether the Longhorns can build on their breakthrough performance. Plus, Browne discusses Lincoln Riley’s future at USC and the remarkable parity across college football.

    Episode 4947

    Show notes

Bobby Burton and Rod Babers preview Texas’ Halloween showdown with Mississippi State and explain why avoiding a post–Ole Miss letdown is the Longhorns’ biggest challenge. With star quarterback Kamario Taylor unavailable for the Bulldogs, Texas enters as a heavy favorite—but must protect the football, eliminate special-teams mistakes and bring the same urgency that fueled last week’s statement victory.

The guys also examine whether Arch Manning, Raleek Brown and the Texas offense can build on their best performance of the season by establishing the run and sustaining more scoring drives. Plus, they predict the final score and break down the weekend’s biggest games, including Florida–Georgia, Auburn–Ole Miss, South Carolina–Oklahoma and Missouri–Arkansas.

  20. Can 9–3 Texas Still Make the College Football Playoff?

    Episode 4944

    Show notes

Jeff Howe, CJ Vogel and Hank South examine whether the SEC’s nine-game conference schedule will help or hurt its College Football Playoff contenders. With the Big Ten looking vulnerable and other conferences lacking dominant teams, could a three-loss SEC program possess a stronger résumé than a 10–2 team from another league?

The crew applies that debate directly to Texas, which would likely be safely inside the field at 10–2 but faces uncertainty at 9–3. A third loss to LSU or Missouri might be survivable, while a defeat against Mississippi State or Arkansas could be fatal. They also discuss injuries, the eye test and why nobody fully trusts the selection committee to reward strength of schedule.
