USC stuns No. 2 Ohio State, prepared statements, tunnel spats and rushing the field
Show notes
The Helium Boys, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino, are back behind the microphones after a spooky season 30-18 Halloween upset by USC of No. 2 Ohio State. The Helium Boys break down all the wild affairs that took place from the second-play-from-scrimmage touchdown, the new hurdle highlight, fans (sometimes ungraciously) storming the field in a storm, tifts in the tunnel and prepared statements to close out the night.
The podcasting duo opens with the Two-Minute Drill where Shotgun has his prepared statement about Saturday night's win over the Buckeyes while Chris talks about how frustrating this Trojans team can be this season before delivering his own prepared non-serious statement.
The boys of Helium jump into listener comments before discussing the win over the Buckeyes where the Trojans were able to win in a Big Ten manner, getting an early lead and then sitting on it while playing in poor weather. Chris and Shotgun have a laundry list of positives in the Stock Up/Stock Down section as they break down the latest dynamic play of the USC freshman class, Lincoln Riley getting his getback, special teams being special in a positive manner and a defense that bothered a freshman quarterback all night.
After a break, the podcasting pair answer a number of listener questions, including talking about confrontations on the way off the field and whether storming the field was the proper thing to do for USC fans. They eventually close out the show with Shotgun taking on Trevino's Take It or Leave It segment before an Overtime period of things to possibly do during a field storming, if you are the star player.

Lincoln Riley and his players deserve credit for how they responded after Wisconsin. It feels great to beat No. 2 Ohio State at the Coliseum. Now comes the test: can we take that same physical play on the road to Indiana? November football is here!

Coach Harvey Hyde on the Trojans historic victory over Ohio State on Halloween night
Show notes
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans following their worst performance of the season with their best: a 30-18 victory over No. 2 Ohio State on a rainy Halloween night in the Coliseum. USC played well in all three phases of the game, taking an early lead on the Buckeyes and never looking back. USC was able to run the ball effectively, the defense stiffened up in the red zone by forcing field goals instead of touchdowns, and special teams stepped up and did its job despite the wet conditions.
Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on everything that happened Saturday night, from the massive turnaround between the Wisconsin game and the Ohio State game, to the fans storming the field and head coach Lincoln Riley's comments after the huge win.
Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting.

Tunnel Vision - Big Ten weather can't stop the Trojans from upsetting No. 2 Ohio State
Show notes
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision, http://USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham and RJ Abeytia are in studio, joined remotely by Shotgun Spratling, talking about USC's massive 30-18 upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State on a rainy Halloween night in the Coliseum. It was a spooky week for head coach Lincoln Riley, who had to address questions about whether he was the right man to lead the Trojans, but he gave his critics pause following his squad's dominating performance against a Buckeyes team that was one of the betting favorites to win the national championship.
Our crew breaks down what they saw Saturday night, from the 69-yard catch and run by Trent Mosley on the second play of the game to the first field storming by Trojan fans in the Coliseum since the 2013 win over No. 4 Stanford. The offense was able to bounce back from its poor showing in Madison, running the ball effectively and utilizing its freshmen pass catchers in Mosley and tight end Mark Bowman. The defense was also exceptional, keeping OSU out of the end zone until 2:12 left in the game and getting the ball back for Jayden Maiava and the offense.
Following the game, Lincoln Riley was able to take his victory lap, talking about how they believed in the building that they had something special going despite the two losses. He also read from a prepared statement that our guys give their thoughts on. Next up, USC has another bye week before hitting the road to take on defending national champion Indiana. Three games left, two top-10 teams, and a clean sweep needed to make the College Football Playoff.

Show notes
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and India Otto previewing the 2026-27 USC women's basketball season after the Trojans completed their preseason with scrimmage wins over Arizona State and California.
But first Makena Arteaga and Shotgun are joined by USC associate head coach Beth Burns for a season preview interview. Burns talks about where the Women of Troy are currently at and how much growth the team is still capable of thanks to a ton of talented young players on the roster.
Burns also discusses the return of National Player of the Year JuJu Watkins after she missed the 2025-26 season with a knee injury. Watkins, who Burns described as "ferocious" in everything she does, returns to lead a group that has three of the last four No. 1 overall recruits. Burns discusses where Watkins may have grown and the leadership role she has on this year's team.
The Trojans signed one of the top freshman classes in the nation and the signees should play significant roles in how far the Trojans can go this season. Burns talks about international recruiting as well as the different type of teaching she is doing this season with such a young squad.
After a break, Shotgun and India discuss their thoughts after seeing one preseason exhibition and what can be gleaned from how USC performed. The podcasters then break down the roster, the schedule and give their superlative predictions for the USC women's basketball season and where the Women of Troy could potentially finish in the Big Ten.

Show notes
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and RJ Abeytia previewing the 2026-27 USC men's basketball season after the Trojans completed their preseason with wins over UC San Diego and San Diego State after a loss to North Carolina.

With Ohio State looming, Lincoln Riley said he's the right fit at USC
Show notes
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast, hosts Ryan Abraham, RJ Abeytia, and Makena Arteaga are in the studio discussing the nationwide criticism facing head coach Lincoln Riley following USC's worst offensive output of his tenure—scoring just 7 points in a brutal loss to Wisconsin. On Tuesday, Riley addressed pressing questions regarding his future in Los Angeles and whether he will continue as the team's primary play-caller.
The crew breaks down Riley’s responses, analyzing whether he remains the right fit for USC, addressing rumors linking his name to other job openings, and evaluating his relationship with athletic director Jen Cohen. They dive into exactly what went wrong in Madison, why Riley insists on keeping the play-calling duties, and how the offensive players are responding after offering their unanimous support for their head coach.
While the loss was devastating, the Trojans have no time to look back with No. 2 Ohio State coming to the Coliseum this weekend. Though the Buckeyes are starting a backup quarterback, they still feature the best player in college football in wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, alongside a ferocious defensive front that poses an even greater threat than the Badger unit that dominated USC's offensive line. Finally, Ryan, RJ, and Makena preview the massive matchup against OSU and look at where this Trojans team currently stands according to the latest advanced statistics.

USC dismantled by Wisconsin, Halloween date with No. 2 Ohio State and food poisoning
Show notes
The Helium Boys, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino, return behind the microphones after a trip to Madison where things didn't go anyone's way from USC being manhandled up front in a 24-7 loss to Shotgun losing his voice and Chris constantly losing his lunch. They break down all the losing as well as preview USC's return home to take on the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in a Halloween affair.
The podcasting duo opens with the Two-Minute Drill where Chris gives a shoutout to a Culver's employee that gave him free ice cream coupons before voicing his disappointment in the performance from USC while Shotgun goes on a rant about the Trojans' performance against Wisconsin that eventually extends into a seven-minute drill.
The boys of Helium jump into listener comments before discussing the disappointing trip to Wisconsin where everything was fun for Trojan fans until the opening kickoff, an opening drop and a quick three and out followed by a pair of interceptions. Chris and Shotgun try to find a couple of positives in the Stock Up section before rattling off several Stock Downs.
After a break, the Helium Boys preview USC's primetime matchup with No. 2 Ohio State, a wounded team that enters without its starting quarterback but coming off a bye week that gave the Buckeyes a little more time to determine what it wants to do against the Trojans. They look at the matchup and what USC needs to do to potentially pull off the upset.
The podcasting pair also answer a listener question about media availability before closing out the show with Shotgun taking on Trevino's Take It or Leave It segment before an Overtime period of underrated Halloween candy and the proper way to disperse or not disperse Halloween candy when not at home. Finally, Chris regales listeners with the tale of his food poisoning and attempts to travel back to California while down bad.

Coach Harvey Hyde addresses fan outrage following USC's 24-7 loss at Wisconsin
Show notes
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about what likely was the worst performance by a Trojan football team of the Lincoln Riley era, the 24-7 beatdown at the hands of Wisconsin. Following USC's big win at Penn State and a bye week to get rested up, the Men of Troy went to Madison and laid an egg in all three phases of the game and lost by three scores to a team that only put up 200 yards of offense.
Trojan football fans have made their thoughts clear, they are out on Riley and want change. We received voicemails, text messages and emails from angry SC supporters and spend the majority of the show responding to all of the questions that were sent in.

Tunnel Vision - Trojan fans have seen enough after USC's abysmal effort against Wisconsin
Show notes
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision http://USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, RJ Abeytia and intern Riley Sager are in studio to breakdown the Trojans breaking down in Madison, falling to Wisconsin 24-7. It was a pathetic attempt at playing tackle football in all three phases of the game and afterwards head coach Lincoln Riley admitted as much, saying how disappointing it was and that they "Just flat out didn't play good enough on any of the three sides of the ball." With a week off to heal up following an impressive road performance in Happy Valley, USC looked like it had taken a couple of months off, flew in on the early morning redeye and maybe had a few too many adult beverages the night before.
From the opening whistle until UW lined up in the victory formation, the Trojans were pushed around and beaten up by the Badgers. Certainly there were issues on defense and special teams, but for a Riley offense to have 92 total yards at halftime and score just 7 points for the first time in his career as a head coach was absolutely shocking.
Sitting at 6-2, USC's championship window is still technically open, but that would require the Trojans winning out and beating three top-10 teams. Even if SC is able to rally and take down a Julian Sayin-less Ohio State squad on Saturday, this team just doesn't seem capable of carrying that momentum over into the next game. The seat of Lincoln Riley couldn't be any hotter, and the crew talks about what realistic options athletic director Jen Cohen has if the Trojans can't pull off a miracle late season rally against the toughest part of the schedule.

Tunnel Vision - From White Out to Jump Around, a rested USC is heading to Wisconsin
Show notes
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision http://USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham and RJ Abeytia are in studio to take a look at USC's trip to Wisconsin. The Trojans are fully rested and fairly healthy after their successful journey to Happy Valley and downtime during the bye week. The Badgers are coming off a tough expedition to the West Coast, falling to UCLA 17-7 in the Rose Bowl.
For head coach Lincoln Riley, this is another important step towards making the college football playoffs, winning a tough conference game on the road in a hostile environment. The Trojans come in with the No. 1 ranked offense in the country according to FEI and Wisconsin has one of the best defenses in the country, so that will be a battle worth watching. It could come down to each team's weaknesses, however, with the plodding Wisconsin offense trying to move the ball against what has been a leaky USC defense.

Healthy Trojans squad prepares for road trip to Wisconsin
Show notes
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, RJ Abeytia and Makena Arteaga are in studio talking about the No. 16 Trojans coming off the bye week and heading back on the road to take on Wisconsin. Lincoln Riley was able to get a huge road win at Penn State, but the team was banged up with several starters like left tackle Elijah Paige, tight end Mark Bowman and defensive lineman Jide Abasiri either out or highly limited.
The time off gave this USC squad time to heal up and on Tuesday Riley said they are the freshest and healthiest they have been at any point during the season. Last weekend there was absolute carnage in college football, not a bad time for the Trojans to be sitting on the sidelines watching all of the action including the remaining five opponents for the regular season. The Badgers were actually out in Los Angeles, falling 17-7 to UCLA in the Rose Bowl. UW did a nice job shutting down the Bruins potent run game, but couldn't get much going offensively. In Madison it sets up what could be a battle of strengths, with UW's defense trying to slow down USC's offense. Physicality will be the key, with the team using the bye week to focus on strong play up front to finish on a high note in Big Ten play.
The crew also takes a look at the big picture for SC, making the College Football Playoffs. The expansion to 24 teams won't happen until next year, but with recent developments the door is wide open for this Trojan team to make the playoffs for the first time. Three of USC's five remaining opponents are in the AP top-10, but Ohio State won't have quarterback Julian Sayin available, Indiana looks a bit more vulnerable and anything can happen with the Trojans and the Bruins face off.

USC football heads to Wisconsin, updated Trojan fantasy draft and World Series
Show notes
The Helium Boys, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino, return with a rejuvenated glow after getting a weekend free from college football, which they naturally spent watching college football. After USC's bye week, they are back to talk about college football's changing landscape for this season and the future. They also preview USC's road trip to Camp Randall to take on the Wisconsin Badgers and update the Trojan fantasy draft standings.
The podcasting duo opens with the Two-Minute Drill where Shotgun thanks the scheduling gods for allowing USC to have a bye week during one of the most consequential weekends in college football regular-season history while Chris discusses his plan of attack for the trip to Wisconsin and his desire to partake in a Culver's meal.
The boys of Helium jump into listener comments before discussing the happenings of the weekend where the college football landscape got flipped on its head with five of the top seven teams in the Associated Press top 25 losing. They then tally up and review their Trojan fantasy draft teams and the performances from the first seven games of the season to see who has the lead at the halfway point.
After a break, the Helium Boys preview USC's trip to Wisconsin to take on a Badger bunch that has a stingy defense and a quarterback that creates problems with his legs. The podcasting pair also answer listener questions about playoff expansion and the Trojans' chances to make it into the College Football Playoff this season. To close out the show, Shotgun takes on Trevino's Take It or Leave It segment before an Overtime period of Wisconsin items.

Show notes
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing USC's bye week before the upcoming trip to Wisconsin. The 6-1 Trojans picked a good weekend to sit on the sidelines as the rest of the sport went through absolute carnage with top-10 upsets all over the place, making the race to make the College Football Playoffs wide open.
After watching a full slate of Saturday games, Coach Hyde got a good feel for the talent levels in the Big Ten and he compares and contracts those offensive and defensive players with what head coach Lincoln Riley has on his roster.
