Joel Gould is worried about your children.
At least that’s what he said four months ago when preaching at Central Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida.
“There are people out there today that want to harm our children. They want to destroy our families. And they could care less about you and your family and the sanctity of your home, or God for that matter. And lawlessness just seems to be abounding.”
Well, it seems like the call was coming from inside the house.
The 34-year-old was allegedly busted taking pictures up the skirt of a student at the Christian school where he taught fifth grade.
Officers say he admitted it to them when interviewed.

Those are just a few of the claims from pastors and evangelical influencers flooding social media this Halloween season, and in this episode of the Preacher Boys Podcast, I react to the wildest ones.As a former fundamentalist and horror fan, I break down the Christian panic over Halloween, from Chipotle’s Ouija board margarita ad to Red Bull’s “demonic” commercial, Universal Horror Nights, Spirit Halloween, and claims that horror movies are portals to the demonic realm. We look at why so many evangelical influencers are afraid of the horror genre, why the “veil is thin on Halloween” idea is a pagan Celtic belief and not a biblical one, and what fundamentalist culture gets wrong about media literacy.✖️✖️✖️CONNECT WITH THE SHOW:preacherboyspodcast.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoyshttps://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/https://twitter.com/preacherboysdochttps://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspodTo connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/✖️✖️✖️The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. Culty shit is everywhere—and this book shows you how to spot it, escape it, and heal from it.
From former NXIVM insiders turned whistleblowers and hosts of the hit podcast A Little Bit Culty comes a gripping, practical, and surprisingly hopeful guide to understanding how manipulative people and systems get their hooks into us—and how to get your life back when they do.
Drawing from their harrowing experiences inside NXIVM, their roles in HBO’s The Vow, and hundreds of conversations with survivors and experts, Sarah Edmondson and Anthony “Nippy” Ames pull back the curtain on the tactics of coercive control: love bombing, gaslighting, identity erosion, charismatic leadership, toxic spirituality, trauma bonding, and more.
Blending memoir, survivor wisdom, cultural commentary, and hard-won humor, A Little Bit Culty decodes the red flags hiding in plain sight—in relationships, workplaces, wellness communities, social media movements, churches, and anywhere someone claims to have all the answers.
Whether you’re untangling your own experience, worried about someone you love, or simply curious how smart, capable people get drawn into high-control groups, this book is the compassionate, no-BS field guide you’ve been waiting for.
Part cautionary tale, part survival manual, and part rallying cry, A Little Bit Culty will leave you wiser, stronger, and far less likely to fall for anyone promising “transformation” at the cost of your autonomy.
Welcome to the club—the one that helps you stay out of cults.

Ordinarily, women are more religious than men. But these are no ordinary times. In America, where Christianity is still the most common religion, women are vacating churches. In the past decade, 16 million women have left the church. Younger women are disaffiliating from religion faster than men. For some women, leaving is like a dramatic divorce; for others, as one woman tells Stankorb, it's more like women and the church "stopped calling each other."
Exploring trends from the 1980s to today, Damned If She Does is an intimate account of women whose stories got missed during the Christian Right's headline-grabbing rise to power. Their exodus is marked by harm, disillusionment, and drift: from pastors' wives and a national Christian TV show host, to girls whose horrific abuse gives another face to the Catholic sex abuse crisis. Some couldn't stand by a church that cast out their queer friends. Others were maligned for who they loved. Churches with strong opinions on sexual purity and abortion stood beside men with histories of assault. With horror, women who loved the church watched the rise of Christian nationalism and saw their faith bastardized.
Finally, they've had enough. Some are atheists. Others are forging new spiritual avenues through astrology or energy work or connection to their ancestors. Some have a Christian faith they no longer entrust to an institution. Attuned to emotional subtlety, women's agency, and religious longing, Stankorb asks what happens when a woman realizes that she's damned both if she stays and if she leaves. This consequential work of narrative nonfiction is a poignant reminder that women deserve better, and a tale of what happens when they don't get it.

In this episode of the Preacher Boys Podcast, host Eric Skwarczynski reacts to a purity culture sermon preached by Eddie Lapina, assistant pastor at First Baptist Church of Hammond, at a youth conference.
Using two apples as an object lesson, Lapina compares sexual activity to bruising and "splitting open" fruit that forever loses it's value.
Eric unpacks the sermon's violent language around sex, the objectification baked into purity culture teaching, and how this kind of messaging disproportionately targets young women. He also reacts to the moment Lapina brings his own granddaughter on stage as a live illustration for the sermon, and shares insight from sex educator Erica Smith on how purity culture teaching can compound harm for survivors of sexual abuse.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT — I’m so glad I don’t have to keep this a secret any more!
Show notes
Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys
✖️✖️✖️
I hate surprises. I hate having to keep secrets. I cannot handle it one bit.
Ask my wife. I am the guy who always buys gifts weeks early and then wants to give them the minute I get home.
Having to keep a secret for months is EXCRUCIATING. In April 2022, I filmed for a documentary series called Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals — and then had to keep it under wraps for a year and a half, until the show premiered in November 2023. By the time the trailer premiered I was DYING.
That’s why I’m so relieved that I can officially, finally announce that in December 2025, I flew across the country to film for another hush hush television series — and now, almost 8 months later, I can tell you about it!
Variety reports, “Season 2 of Toxic, the Elizabeth Chambers-hosted true crime series that explores poisonous romantic relationships and the trauma they cause, will premiere on Investigation Discovery on Sept. 15. According to ID’s announcement, the series will continue doing what it does best, following “Chambers as she speaks with survivors of toxic relationships, domestic abuse, and intimate partner violence and explores cases from all over the country.”
I think my audience will be interested to know that one episode in particular is going to feature a case about coercion and abuse within an Independent Fundamental Baptist church — and it’s going to feature my friend and survivor, Sarah Jackson! The best part of the whole experience was that after years of talking virtually, I got to fly out and meet her in person.
The episodes premiere on ID at 10 pm ET/PT on Tuesdays, and roll out weekly, also streaming on HBO Max — this episode looks like it’ll land somewhere in the latter half of the releases.
I'm so excited to see this episode air, and for Sarah's story to reach more people who might need to hear it.
I can’t wait to see how this turned out, and I’m honored I got to participate. Elizabeth was incredible — even if she was concerned about my Red Bull intake on set.
And the rest of the crew were clearly talented and also so kind and accommodating as well. Really enjoyed getting to have a lot of great conversations on and off-camera with them.
A cool bonus piece of context is that Toxic is going to appear on Investigation Discovery — which is where Let Us Prey premiered a few years ago, so it’s cool to be back on the same network. But another cool piece of context is that this particular project is produced by Breaklight Pictures — they have an amazing track record, putting out shows like Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed. Great company to be in.
Obviously can’t share much more now, just wanted to drop something on the channel and podcast feed to let you know to keep an eye out for Season 2 of Toxic! Throw a reminder on your calendar, set that TiVo, get that blank VHS ready… or just tune in to HBO Max… that probably makes the most sense.

IFB Evangelist Gets Life in Prison for Child Rape; His Wife Awaits Sentencing

Traveling evangelist Benjamin Garlick and his wife Shaantal Garlick have been convicted of child sex crimes in Rutherford County, Tennessee — nearly three years after I first covered their September 2023 arrest. In this episode, I revisit my original reporting and break down everything that's happened since: the March 2024 reindictment that added new charges, the delayed trial, the August 2026 guilty verdict, and Judge Barry Tidwell's sentence of life in prison without parole for Benjamin Garlick. Shaantal Garlick was convicted of facilitation and child neglect charges and is now in custody as well. Both will be sentenced on their remaining charges November 10, 2026.
This case involves an IFB (Independent Fundamentalist Baptist) traveling minister who preached across Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas, and was supported by ministries including First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. Law enforcement identified multiple victims during the investigation and specifically appealed to Hispanic religious communities, where Garlick focused much of his ministry, for anyone with information to come forward.

In this episode of the Preacher Boys Podcast, host Eric Skwarczynski sits down with Travis Chappell (host of the Travis Makes Money podcast) to dig into the financial side of high-control religious environments—specifically how sermons on tithing, offerings, and "giving by faith" can be used to manipulate and financially pressure congregants.
Eric and Travis break down real sermon clips from pastors preaching controversial and occasionally predatory theology on the topic, including telling people to pay their tithe before their bills, teaching homeless individuals to tithe 10% of their income, and to give so God keeps protecting their families... which sounds a bit like the Mafia, don't you think?

Today on the Preacher Boys Podcast, we're diving into one of the most under-discussed forms of church abuse: financial exploitation. From guilt-tripping congregants into tithing during the COVID-19 pandemic to shaming members with bizarre, homophobic rhetoric, this episode breaks down real sermon clips from prominent pastors and ministries who use weaponized biblical language to control their congregations' finances.
In this episode, we react to and unpack clips from:
— Josh McPherson's viral "tithe shaming" sermon
— Paul Chappell of Lancaster Baptist Church on tithing during COVID-19
— Jabin Chavez, a Las Vegas pastor with a surprisingly refreshing take on financial hardship
— Kenneth Copeland's fear-based prosperity gospel messaging during the pandemic
— Pastor Larry Smith and his "first fruits" tithing philosophy
— Bruce Goddard (featured in HBO Max's "Let Us Prey" documentary) and his complaints about members leaving during COVID and not tithing when they sold their homes
We explore how tithing, sacrificial giving, and "faithfulness" are often twisted into tools of manipulation — pressuring people already struggling to pay bills, feed their families, or survive a global pandemic into handing over money to the church.

CT Townsend's Arise Youth Conference just wrapped July 20–23, 2026 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee — with thousands of teenagers and youth pastors gathered under the banner of "powerful worship" and "bold preaching."
But one guest speaker at the event is raising some serious questions.
That speaker is Jon Jenkins—the pastor who resigned from his church in 2019 amid controversy surrounding how he handled criminal sexual abuse cases involving his staff.
