  1. Episode 23: Show Us Your Colors!

    Season 1, Episode 23

    Show notes

Hi friends! Welcome back to the show.

Lydia is wearing her Boyne Sweater. It’s basically a big cozy marshmallow (in a good way). Elyssa is wearing her Erika Vest. Another bulky knit but so chic.

Lydia finished her baby alien in time for Halloween! She used the Oak Folk Doll pattern but made the arms a bit shorter and knit it up in Malabrigo Worsted in the Lettuce colorway.

Elyssa bought one ball of Mohair So Soft that needs to become a bonnet. Possibly the Balabonnet orLilli Bonnet. The Gumnut Hat and 21st Century Austen Heroine are also mentioned.

Lydia has been knitting her Pelica vest and even does a little spit splice demo for ya. Elyssa reminisces about that time she knit an entire Puffball Wrap only to unravel it all (and it was worth it!).

Elyssa is still working on her Sophie Hood. It really is a lot of knitting. She also gives a Sheep Jumper update and describes the modification she’s planning. Lydia weighs in and references how she made her log cabin pullover (very much inspired by Julia Monning.

E and L show off their recent sweater yarn purchases- Elyssa has an electric rainbow of Cascade 220 and Lydia has… 12 balls of light grey Wool of the Andes.

Elyssa’s yarn is for her ‘Lil ‘Lac but Lydia is still deciding what her yarn wants to be. Maybe a Bouquet?

    Show notes

We’re back again with another episode of Procrastiknitting. We’re so glad you’re here.

We chat about Malabrigo Day (can you believe it wasn’t our idea?).

Elyssa has been watching Below and is feeling inspired by the knitwear. However, it startled her so bad that she dropped stitches on her Sophie Hood!

Lydia finishes her Folk People Vest! What a thrilling moment.

Elyssa surprises Lydia with her Sheep Jumper she has been working on in secret. It’s so cool!

Lydia started making a green Oak Folk Doll. It’s going to be part of her son’s Halloween costume.

Lydia scrolled the Knit Picks sale determined to choose a perfect color for her next sweater project and chose… light grey.

Lydia swatched for her Pelica and she’s excited to cast on.

Elyssa mentions Very Pink Knits (an excellent knitting resource).

We chat about a new Rumpelstiltskin picture book.

Lydia attempted to get both her kids to wear handknit sweaters for their picture day photos. The younger kid wore this sweater and the older kid took this sweater off. Oh well!

Elyssa shows us her new toys while wearing a wig and that's it!

  3. Episode 21: The One About Buying Yarn

    Season 1, Episode 21

    Show notes

Hi friends! Welcome back to Procrastiknitting. It's a podcast about knitting- what we’re wearing, what we’re making, and whatever else we happen to think of.

Lydia is wearing her Kinikin Cardigan by Good Night, Day and Elyssa is wearing her Radical Left Scum Knitting Club t-shirt.

Elyssa goes through her ‘Lil ‘Lac yarn color choices and they are majorly dreamy. That Cascade 220 color palette is so good. Lydia also went yarn shopping and bought some equally thrilling yarn(brown!) to knit a Pelica. Snefnug yarn is briefly mentioned, as is Malabrigo Worsted (of course).

Lydia is making progress on her Folk People Vest. The Bronco Vest is also admired (and we love all her designs so just go check her Ravelry page, okay?).

Elyssa has been helping our friend Eliot shop for yarn so she can make him an Erika Vest.

We bond over our love of wigs for a while. We… really love wigs.

Elyssa gives a New Norma update (waiting on a yarn delivery).

Then we give our traditional Halloween countdown and that’s all she wrote!

    Season 1, Episode 20

    Show notes

Episode 20! Thanks for being here with us as we chat about knitting and whatever else we happen to think of.

We are both considering some Halloween costume crafting. Elyssa’s daughter wants to be some kind of Moana coconut demon. Lydia’s kids want to be a cheetah and an alien. Lydia might knit a green Folk Oak Doll as a little alien buddy (maybe).

Lydia is wearing her Carbeth knit in Cascade Ecological Wool. It’s a classic.

Elyssa has been wearing her Erika Vest she knit in Malabrigo Rasta. It was the first garment she knit and it’s so cool.

Lydia is currently working on a Folk People Vest for her younger son. She’s almost done with the intarsia and it’s turning out so cute!! Such a fun pattern.

Elyssa is on an journey of color discovery for her future ‘Lil ‘Lac sweater. She’s been using the Pantone website as a resource and she’s thinking she'll probably use Cascade 220.

Lydia is seriously considering making a Passing Through Cardigan.

Elyssa learned how to get her dropped stitches back on the needles and she’s happily knitting her New Norma again. Phew!

Lydia recently listened to an episode of the Cast On podcast that she found very illuminating. And now she wants to buy more yarn.

Elyssa’s mom has asked for a sweater and Elyssa has been choosing some potential patterns. The Cumulus Blouse is a serious contender.

    Season 1, Episode 19

    Show notes

Hi everyone! It’s another nighttime episode here on Procrastiknitting. Spooky!

This week we discuss the NY Sheep and Wool Festival (aka Rhinebeck). We mention @needle_beetle’s coach bus. Elyssa might go but she also wants to attend the Big E this year and one woman can only do so much.

Lydia cast on a Folk People Vest and she’s loving it so far. Here’s a great MDK article with some intarsia tips.

Need someone to detangle your yarn? There’s a subreddit for that!

Lydia is wearing her Coloured Crosses. It’s one of her favorite sweaters ever.

Elyssa mentions this great post from @TheIronSnail about gansey sweaters.

Elyssa is still working on her New Norma and tries it on for us (a few stitches pop off the needles but we’re totally not worried about it!).

Lydia shows off the weird stuff she bought at Art Scraps (pompom trim, googly eyes!).

Elyssa has made it to the midpoint of her Sophie Hood!

We take a moment to acknowledge the viral reel Elyssa made about The Garment. What a wild ride that was.

Elyssa might abandon her plan to knit a ‘Lil ‘Lac sweater (but she probably won’t) and Lydia hopes to knit a Puppy Sweater someday.

    Episode 18! Hi! Welcome!

We start off this episode with a very special shout out and then Elyssa tells us about what’s happening in her mouth.

Elyssa has been very busy knitting her New Norma and it is stunning. She ran out of yarn and sped over to Cleo’s for more. She’s also been wearing her Cardi du Coeur and her Pressed Flowers Kerchief.

Lydia finished knitting her Scrappy Checkers Sweater! Everyone please clap. She’s super excited to start the Folk People Vest next. We also mention the Jane Vest (also by Megan Faith Makes).

Lydia is wearing her Port Jacket and she loves it! She’s having a tough time deciding what to knit for herself next. Elyssa suggests the Ava Jacket and it’s a serious contender. Or maybe the Petra Jacket? We also mention the Pelica and the Jilli Jacket.

Elyssa is having the best time color planning for her ‘Lil ‘Lac. She might use Cascade 220 because they have allll the colors.

Then we talk about finding the perfect brown yarn for Lydia’s next project for a bit before we descend into madness.

    Season 1, Episode 17

    Show notes

Hi friends and Happy Equinox! Welcome to another episode of Procrastiknitting.

As the heat of summer fades away we’ve been feeling our brains turn back on and the creative ideas are flowing.

Elyssa has been admiring My Favorite Things Knitwear and recently bought a few of her patterns. After plenty of swatching she cast on the New Norma and it’s looking great so far. She’s using DROPS Air held with Brushed Alpaca.

Elyssa tried on her Airy Blouse in progress. She’s knitting it with Woolerton Estates Cousin Benny.

Lydia is wearing her Boyne Sweater. She knit it in Wool & the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool that she dyed last summer using Bengala dye.

Elyssa has been getting back into ice dyeing. Check out more of her dye work on Instagram.

Elyssa is also dreaming of knitting a ‘Lil ‘Lac Sweater or maybe a Wave Sweater. She’s been using the Entrelac Scarf patternas an intro to the technique.

    Lydia tells Elyssa aboutStevenBe.

Lydia is so close to finishing her Scrappy Checkers. Sooo close!!

Elyssa mentions the IG account @penelopes_fiberarts. Penelope is a prolific knitter and has great style! Note: After we recorded we noticed that Penelope uses they/them pronouns. Sincere apologies for our error.

Thanks so much for listening! xox

    Show notes

Welcome to episode 16 of Procrastiknitting! An episode in which we repeatedly celebrate recording our 15th episode… because we are supremely confused. Whoops!

Elyssa really enjoyed this Instagram postby Marusique Stories.

Lydia reminisces about buying yarn from Downtown Yarns during the height of the pandemic.

Elyssa refers to another IG postwe both really liked.

Elyssa has been hanging out at BKBworking on Gumnut Hats.

Lydia was absolutely thrilled to find a Troll dollwith real wool hair at an antique store and then we go off on an Ostheimertangent for the ages. Sorry! But also, you’re welcome.

Elyssa chatted with Fia ofSchmookie Knits and got her Mini Bunny(aka Rainbowhead) back on track.

Elyssa is also working on her Sophie Hood again.

Lydia is still slowly working on her Scrappy Checkers. She loves it but steered Elyssa away from it as a pattern for herself due to lack of short row shaping for the yoke. Here’s some really illuminating short row infofrom Tin Can Knits. Lydia also brought out her Azorsweater to help explain this concept.

Elyssa saw Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and it really blew her mind AND inspired her to knit.

Elyssa swatched again (wow!). She used Noro Kureyon and Drops Air. Elyssa also finished and blocked her Pressed Flowers Kerchief.

PSA: If you're thinking about knitting Christmas gifts you should start making them now. Elyssa already made an Oslo Hat to gift to a lucky someone. Her go-to gift knit is the Chunky Twist Headband.

Elyssa attempts a little French and we reminisce about a childhood commercialfor those Muzzy tapes.

Elyssa surprised us all and knit a swatch! She used Qing Teddy and Drops Air. The swatch might be for a Scrappy Checkers or possibly some kind of vest.

Elyssa has more of the Teddy yarn she’s saving to make a Parquet Vest.

We talk colorwork knitting for a bit and Lydia tries to explain the concept of Color Dominance.

Elyssa considers the Gerhard Sweater by Kolibri by Johanna. She also likes the Hilma.

Hi guys! We have been knitting some stuff and we can’t wait to show ya.

Elyssa shows off herRe:designed Project bag and it’s stunning, as always. It’s currently filled with Linen Quill yarn that she’s using to knit a gorgeousMix Tape Tee.

We talk about decreases for a minute. Just remember: Your BFF is always right! And she (usually?) comes first.

Anyway, we discuss Mix Tape construction and Elyssa gives a shoutout to The Yarn Randomizer on YouTube for all the knowledge she shares, specifically a video about picking up stitches.

Lydia has cast on for a kid size Scrappy Checkers Sweaterand has been knitting on it like a fiend. She’s making the 6-8 year size in various yarns. She also posted on Instagramabout why you might want to knit your sweater neckbands sooner than you think. Lydia pops the wip over her head and we discuss the beautiful but ill-fated Holgersweater our friend Malisa made.

Elyssa wants to start a Scrappy Checkers too so she went to Knit & Pearls and got to dig through some ancient orphan yarn treasures. What an absolute dream.

Lydia finished a Berry Baby Hatfor her niece. She used Malabrigo Worsted in the colors Rose Damask and Lettuce.

Elyssa gives us a Mix Tape Tee update… it’s gorgeous! She’s also really loving working with Linen Quill. It’s mostly going great but Elyssa did get a little help from Laura at Knit & Pearls. Thanks, Laura!

Elyssa puts on her finished Cardi du Coeur! It is gorgeous! Everyone please clap.

After going back and forth between a couple different blanket patterns for her Purl Soho Linen Quill Minis, Elyssa has taken a different direction entirely- the Mix Tape Tee by Wool & Pine and it’s going great so far.

Lydia has cast on a Berry Baby Hat for her niece. She’s using Malabrigo Worsted (duh!) in Damask Rose. Lydia picked up some Malabrigo Nube roving in the colorway Pocion. Lydia has also been spinning some Merino-Silk from Miss Babs (discontinued, apparently) in the color Hoarfrost.

Elyssa teaches us a little about why people hoard and references this article.

Elyssa finished her Pressed Flowers Kerchief. She’s working on an I-cord tie for it. She also got to visit Madison Wool, a yarn shop in CT. She spent some time knitting and chatting with the owner and got inspired to knit the Flutter Buttshorts by Jessie Maed. She even bought some yarnfor them!

We are both geeking out over the work of Anna Husemann, her new Beaded Treasure Purse patternis stunning.

We’re thinking about knitting the same sweater for our kids. Scrappy Checkers might be the one. We both have some Knit Picks Wool of the Andes we might use. Elyssa probably won’t swatch and you can't make her! @me_and_simone made a postrecently that really illustrated this concept of swatching as a thief of creative joy.

Hi friends! Welcome to Episode 10! Woo!

In this episode Elyssa reveals that she is a major Phish fan and has been attending multiple shows at MSG this week. Here’s the song that started it all for her.

Lydia has been attending water aerobics classes. What a dream!

Elyssa had to pause her Pressed Flowers Kerchief (free pattern!) when she realized she made an error. Ransom Canyon may be partly to blame.

Lydia is also making a Pressed Flowers (inspired by Elyssa, obviously) and after a bit of a learning curve she is zooming right along.

Lydia’s Marshlandsweater in on a time out. The colors are just not vibing for her. Time to rip. @Lou.Dangit is briefly mentioned. We both love watching their creative process.

Elyssa is considering the Antipodessweater. But there’s also the Sophie Hood, her mohair top, the Pressed Flowers, etc… How many wips is too many (is there a limit?).

Elyssa is doing some pest prevention for her stash- jumbo Ziplocks at the ready.

Lydia picked up an older project; a mohair hat made of 2 strands of mohair held together. She doesn’t really like this project either! Go figure. She’s using the Big Cuff Hat pattern as a guide.

Have you seen the work of Nancy Marchant? It is stunning! Go look at it now!

Lydia found aWeir Crafts Kit at a thrift store and it was an absolute thrill.

Elyssa’s story of Phish concert life totally astounds Lydia and then Lydia tells a story that makes them both want to puke. Speaking of gross stuff; remember this creepy tale? Also, Lydia recommends Scary Stories to Tell on the Pod for a spooky laugh.

A bit more random rambling and that's it!

Thanks so much for ten funky episodes! It's been a wild ride so far and we're excited to keep going.

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting with Elyssa and Lydia!

This week we are bringing you an episode we recorded back in the spring. In this episode we discuss the origin of the pod and also how we each got into knitting.

Lydia is babysitting and has just put the baby to bed which reminds Elyssa of an episode of Euphoria.

Elyssa is having trouble with her Sophie Hood. Some day Lydia will convince her to use stitch markers…

The gals sing the praises of their pod mentor, Victoria. Hi, Victoria!

E and L discuss the origin story of the podcast and a serendipitous exchange that occurred at the Showplace Tag Sale.

Elyssa explains how she learned to knit from her grandma. Also, eyelash yarn- What is it, anyway? And what was that thing Elyssa’s sister found in the basement?

Teenage Lydia taught herself how to knit using this exact booklet.

Have you ever noticed how characters knit on tv?

Lydia shares a couple of crafting horror stories. Skip this part if you’re squeamish.💀

Elyssa mentions her fave ceramicist; Menlo Mud (but please be careful with that metal straw!!).

Elyssa had a tender waxing experience and might know how to pronounce "hirsute".

Don’t you just love a fancy grocery store? Del Deli delivers.

Elyssa opines about the coffee ice cream sodas from Friendly's and is figuring out how to replicate them at home.

And that’s all for this week! We hope you enjoyed it.

Welcome back to Procrastiknitting with Elyssa and Lydia!

In this episode Elyssa shows us her exciting yarn purchase from Purl Soho and we discuss whether she should knit a Charm Blanket or an Alpenglow. Tough choice! Lydia mentions a Very Pink Knits episode in which the challenges of the Alpenglow are discussed.

Lydia has finished her Port Jacket and she loves it! She even made a project page on Ravelry. She's hoping to make the Baby Loon Sweater next. She might use some of the yarn from her very first cardigan that she unraveled.

Elyssa's 21st Century Austen Heroine is on hold. She has been working a bit on her Airy Blouse in Woolerton Estate yarn and her Sophie Hood is making slow but steady progress as well. She also has a Pippa Dress on the needles and she's loving the lace knitting process.

Lydia discovered SchmookieKnits and immediately fell in love with these whimsical creatures. She and Elyssa are both knitting the Butterfly.

Lydia will soon be acquiring a spinning wheel and is dreaming of the hand dyed wool from Hedgehog Fibres. And if we talk about spinning wheels we obvi talk about Rumplestiltskin. Both the creepy classic and the modern chill.
