Reel Boring Podcast
Jared Mathias and Anthony Nelson are two old buddies who met in film school and never stopped talking movies. Now separated by a few thousand miles, they reunite each week on the Reel Boring Podcast to bore into the films they can’t stop thinking about. Bringing their own distinct tastes and sensibilities, Jared and Anthony dig past “good” or “bad” to get at what makes a story work, what makes it memorable, and why any of it matters. From new releases and old favorites to television, games, and whatever else has hijacked their attention, nothing interesting is off the table. Come hang.

Show notes
Beware, the Unknown! Jared and Anthony are no more. The magic of Halloween has transformed them into their favorite Over the Garden Wall characters: Wirt and Jason Funderberker. Join our favorite cartoon frog as he guides his companion through the Unknown using nothing but a state-of-the-art PowerPoint presentation. The way home is long, the trials treacherous, and something sinister seems to lurk in the darkness behind them... but I'm sure it's nothing. And hey, at least they have movie trivia!
In this special episode of the Reel Boring Podcast, Jared and Anthony celebrate Halloween with an Over-the-Garden-Wall-themed journey through Dante's eight(?) circles of Hell! Inspired by the beloved Cartoon Network miniseries, each circle presents a new challenge designed to test their knowledge of movies. Will they find their way out of the Unknown, or will they be lost forever?
Along the way, they'll decipher one-star Letterboxd reviews, go on blind dates with horror movie villains, rank the highest-grossing horror movies of all time, assemble teams of iconic movie monsters, identify famous movie deaths through some truly terrible haikus, and more, all culminating in a final showdown that could put their very souls in jeopardy.
So grab your lantern, fear the Beast, and leave these woods… if you can.
All that and more on the Reel Boring Podcast!

‘Wildwood’ is Pure Art, Plus ‘Clayface,’ ‘Wicker’ and A Stop-Motion Character Draft
Show notes
Shush! We're hiding from a witch and her army of coyotes in what might be the most beautifully crafted forest we've ever seen. Now that you mention it, the witch and the coyotes are pretty impressive, too. Guess it's time to talk about Wildwood, LAIKA's latest stop-motion animated movie!
In this episode of the Reel Boring Podcast, Jared and Anthony discuss Wildwood, exploring the latest handcrafted fantasy adventure from the studio behind Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings. Does LAIKA's newest animated film live up to the studio's reputation for breathtaking stop-motion animation? Is it actually Absolute Art?
With the witch and her coyotes only puppet-sized, we've also got time to discuss two more new movie releases: Wicker and DC's Clayface. Plus, we cover the latest entertainment news, including even more Netflix drama, James Bond casting news, The Rings of Power trailer, and Dune: Part Three box office updates.
And just in case we need to placate the coyotes, Jared and Anthony draft some of their favorite stop-motion animated characters and throw them into mystery scenarios. Who will survive, who will thrive, and who will end up as coyote chow?
All that and more on the Reel Boring Podcast!

Show notes
Well, this is awkward. Jared and Anthony went diving in whale-infested waters and wound up trapped inside a whale, which can only mean one thing: it's time for a Whalefall movie review!

We dive into the film's survival thriller premise, explore its themes of fatherhood and the complicated relationships between fathers and sons, and ask the most important question of all: Is Josh Brolin slowly turning into Jeff Bridges?
Join the Reel Boring Podcast as we break down Whalefall and decide whether this whale of a tale is worth your time. Or is it tale of a whale?

'You Can See Everything' and Why You Should See Everything
Show notes
Nathan Fielder showed up with a film crew to the Reel Boring Podcast with the hopes he could make a follow up to his new movie, You Can See Everything. To his disappointment, Jared's eyes weren't blue enough and Anthony wasn't intimidating enough to make a worthy sequel. So until they come up with a scandal on the level of Elizabeth Holmes, they're diving into his new documentary as if their lives depend on it.
Plus, they're breaking down the new trailer for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, discussing the latest A24 movie news as Zendaya teams up with Alex Garland, and looking at the latest Netflix news and executive shake-ups. And that's not all: Anthony faces a Letterboxd challenge to see whether he really knows the highest-rated movies on the platform as well as he claims. The results might surprise you.
From movie reviews and film analysis to the latest entertainment news and a test of Letterboxd movie knowledge, Jared and Anthony cover it all in this episode of the Reel Boring Podcast.
