S6:E19-Acts 13:33-43-Paul’s Sermon in Pisidian Antioch Pt. 3: Forgiveness of Sins Through the Risen Jesus
Season 6, Episode 19
Show notes
Paul’s sermon in Pisidian Antioch reaches its conclusion and its purpose. Having shown that God raised Jesus from the dead, Paul now proves from the Hebrew Scriptures that this was God’s plan all along, then tells his listeners what it means for them: forgiveness of sins.
In Acts 13:33–43, Paul quotes Psalm 2 (“You are my Son”), Isaiah 55 (the sure blessings promised to David), and Psalm 16 (“You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave”). He then makes a simple, unanswerable argument: David died, was buried, and his tomb was still in Jerusalem. So David’s words must point to someone else. Jesus was raised on the third day, before His body saw decay. The promise was never about David. It was about David’s heir.
In this episode we cover: what “Today I have become your Father” does and does not mean (the Son is eternal, not created — what began was His role as the Messiah and Savior); why God’s everlasting covenant with David was always a promise of Jesus; why Psalm 16 can only be fulfilled by the resurrection; Paul’s declaration that through Jesus there is forgiveness of sins and a right standing with God that the law of Moses could never provide; his warning from Habakkuk not to mock what God is doing; and the response; that is, people begging to hear more, and Paul and Barnabas urging them to continue in the grace of God.

S6:E18-Acts 13:21-32-Paul’s Sermon in Pisidian Antioch Pt. 2: From King Saul to King Jesus
Show notes
Paul’s sermon in Pisidian Antioch continues — and it builds to the most explosive sentence in history: “But God raised him from the dead!”
In Acts 13:21–32, Paul walks his audience from King Saul — the king the people demanded, who ended in fear, jealousy, and defeat — to King David, the man after God’s own heart, whose priority was to obey and honor God despite his flaws. And from David’s line, exactly as promised, God brought Israel and the entire world the Savior: Jesus.
In this episode we explore: why God gave Israel the king they wanted before the king they needed; what “a man after God’s own heart” really means (and doesn’t mean); the striking contrast between two men of Benjamin named Saul — one who rejected God, and one transformed by Christ; how the Sanhedrin fulfilled the very prophecies they read every Sabbath by condemning Jesus; and why the resurrection changes everything — God saved the Savior, so the Savior can save us.

S6:E17-Acts 13:13-20-Paul's Sermon in Pisidian Antioch: Remembering the God Who Saves
Season 6, Episode 17
Show notes
In this episode, we follow Paul and Barnabas from Paphos to Perga and then on to Pisidian Antioch, where John Mark leaves them and returns to Jerusalem. On the Sabbath, Paul and Barnabas go into the synagogue. Jesus chose Paul as the apostle to the Gentiles, yet in city after city Paul goes to the synagogue first because he longs for his own people to be saved (Romans 9:1–5).
After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders invite the visitors to speak. Paul had been trained under Gamaliel. He stands up and addresses both the men of Israel and the Gentiles who worship God. Luke records only one of Paul's many synagogue messages, and this is it.
Join us as we walk through the first part of Paul's message (Acts 13:16–20). Paul reminds his audience that the God of Israel is a saving God. He chose their ancestors and made them prosper in Egypt. He led them out with mighty power. He endured their grumbling and rebellion for forty years in the wilderness, from the manna and quail to the golden calf to their refusal to enter the Promised Land. And He overthrew seven nations in Canaan to give His people their inheritance. In spite of His people's unfaithfulness, God kept saving them.

S6:E16-Acts 13:1-12-Barnabas and Saul Are Sent: Paul's First Missionary Journey Begins
Season 6, Episode 16
Show notes
We're back from summer break! In this episode, we open Acts 13 as the story of the early church turns from Peter to Paul. While the leaders of the church in Antioch are worshiping and fasting, the Holy Spirit speaks: "Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them." After more prayer and fasting, the church lays hands on the two men and sends them out, and Paul's first missionary journey begins.
We follow Barnabas, Saul, and John Mark to the island of Cyprus, where they preach in the Jewish synagogues first, from Salamis all the way to Paphos. There they meet Sergius Paulus, a Roman governor who wants to hear the word of God, and Bar-Jesus, a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet who tries to keep him from believing. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Saul, now called Paul for the first time, confronts the sorcerer, who is struck blind, and the governor believes.
Join us as we explore what it means to be sent by the Holy Spirit, why the gospel went to the Jews first, how fasting and prayer prepare us to hear from God, and the striking parallel between Paul's own blindness on the Damascus road and the blindness that falls on the man who led a governor into spiritual darkness.

S6:E13-Acts 11:19-30-The First Christians and the Church in Antioch
Season 6, Episode 13
Show notes
In this episode, we study Acts 11:19-30 and the founding of the church in Antioch of Syria. After Stephen's death, believers scattered as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching at first only to Jews. But some from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to Gentiles, and a large number believed and turned to the Lord.
We walk through what happened next: the Jerusalem church sent Barnabas to Antioch, where he saw evidence of God's blessing and encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. Barnabas then went to Tarsus to find Saul, and the two of them taught large crowds there for a full year. It was at Antioch that believers were first called Christians.
We also cover the prophets who came down from Jerusalem, including Agabus, who predicted a great famine that came during the reign of Claudius. In response, the believers in Antioch sent relief to the brothers and sisters in Judea, each giving as much as they could, entrusting the gift to Barnabas and Saul.
Along the way we look at the geography and history of Antioch, why Barnabas was the right person to send, the origin of the term "Christian," and what this passage shows about the gospel spreading beyond Jerusalem.

S6:E12-Acts 11:1-18-Jesus Is for Everyone: Why Peter Could Not Stand in God's Way
Season 6, Episode 12
Show notes
When Peter returned to Jerusalem after sharing the good news of Jesus with the Roman military officer, who is a non-Jew, he faced sharp criticism from fellow believers. Why? Because he had entered the home of Gentiles (non-Jews), shared a meal with them, and witnessed God pour out the Holy Spirit upon them.
In this episode of Renewing Your Mind with the Word of God, we walk verse-by-verse through Acts 11:1–18 and explore one of the most important turning points in church history. Peter explains to his critics how God gave him a vision, led him to Cornelius' house, and demonstrated beyond doubt that salvation through Jesus Christ was not only for the Jewish people but for all who believe.
Acts 11 reminds us that the gospel breaks down every barrier that man tries to build. God's invitation to salvation through Jesus Christ extends to every tribe, nation, language, and people.
Join us as we study this powerful chapter and see how God's plan for the world unfolded through the obedience of Peter and the work of the Holy Spirit.

S6:E11-Acts 10:19-48-Jesus Shows No Favoritism: Peter and Cornelius
Season 6, Episode 11
Show notes
In this powerful episode, we walk verse-by-verse through Acts 10:19–48, one of the most important turning points in the history of the church. Peter receives a life-changing revelation from God: the gospel of Jesus Christ is not only for the Jews—it is for everyone.
As Peter obeys the Holy Spirit and enters the home of Cornelius, a Roman military officer (a non-Jew), barriers begin to fall. What once divided Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews) is shattered by the truth that God shows no favoritism. Through Peter’s message, we witness the first recorded outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Gentile believers like Cornelius, proving that salvation comes by grace through faith, not rituals, ethnicity, or works.
Remember, Jesus came for every nation, every background, and every person willing to believe.

S6:E10-Acts 10:1-18-In Jesus, God Breaks Down Barriers
Season 6, Episode 10
Show notes
In this episode we start Acts, chapter 10. Specifically, we look at verses 1-18. In Acts 10:1-18, we see God doing something unexpected. A high-ranking soldier named Cornelius—a Roman captain n in command of 100 soldiers—receives a vision from an angel at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Peter, one of Jesus' original disciples, receives a confusing vision about clean and unclean animals. And within hours, these two men—normally natural enemies—are about to meet.
Here's what happens: Cornelius is stationed in Caesarea on the Mediterranean coast. He's a devout man who prays regularly and gives generously to the poor. An angel appears to him and tells him to send men to Joppa to find Simon Peter, who is staying with another Simon—a tanner.
At the same time, Peter is on a rooftop in Joppa, hungry and praying at noon. He falls into a trance and sees the sky open. A sheet comes down filled with animals—some clean by Jewish law, some unclean. God tells Peter to kill and eat them. Peter refuses because Jewish law forbids eating unclean animals. God tells him three times: "Do not call unclean what I have made clean."
God is showing Peter that the rules Peter lived by his whole life—the boundaries between clean and unclean, Jew and Gentile—have changed because of Jesus.

S6:E5- Acts 8:26–40-Jesus Revealed in Isaiah: Philip, the Ethiopian Eunuch, and the Gospel on the Desert Road
Season 6, Episode 5
Show notes
In Acts 8:26–40, the gospel takes a surprising turn down a desert road.
After powerful ministry in Samaria, Philip receives an unexpected command from an angel of the Lord: leave the crowds and go south toward Gaza. On that road he encounters an Ethiopian official — a high-ranking treasurer serving the queen of Ethiopia — who is reading aloud from the book of Isaiah but struggling to understand what it means.
What follows is one of the most beautiful gospel moments in Scripture.
Philip explains that the passage the man is reading — Isaiah 53 — is actually pointing to Jesus Christ, the suffering servant who was led like a lamb to the slaughter. Through this conversation, the Ethiopian official comes to understand the good news about Jesus, believes, and is immediately baptized.

Peter’s strong rebuke exposes a powerful spiritual truth: the gifts of God—and salvation through Jesus—cannot be purchased, manipulated, or used for personal gain. Saul—the man we will later know as the apostle Paul—emerges as a central figure, relentlessly hunting down believers and dragging men and women into prison. As believers flee for their lives, they carry the message of Jesus with them, fulfilling Jesus' promise that His witnesses would go to Judea, Samaria, and beyond.

S6:E1-Acts 7:51–60 — Stephen --The First Martyr because of Jesus
Season 6, Episode 1
Show notes
In this episode, we conclude Acts chapter 7 by walking verse by verse through Acts 7:51–60, one of the most powerful and sobering passages in the Book of Acts.
Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, turns from defending himself to delivering a bold, prophetic indictment of Israel’s leaders. Drawing on Israel’s own history, he exposes a repeated pattern: resisting God, rejecting God’s messengers, and ultimately betraying and murdering the Righteous One—Jesus the Messiah.
Stephen unmasks religious hypocrisy at its core—leaders who boast in the Law, hardened in heart, repeating the sins of their ancestors who persecuted God’s prophets. The truth hits hard, and the response is explosive.
As the Sanhedrin erupts in rage, Stephen is given a remarkable vision: the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father. This declaration seals his fate. Dragged outside the city and stoned, Stephen becomes the first Christian martyr—yet he dies with unwavering faith, peace, and forgiveness on his lips.

S5:E9-Acts 7:42-50-Steven reminds the religious court of the Israelites' history of idolatry
Season 5, Episode 9
Show notes
In this week’s episode, we step into Stephen’s powerful defense before the Sanhedrin as he weaves together Israel’s early history to show that true worship of God long predated Moses, the Law, and even the Temple itself. You’ll hear how Stephen quotes Amos 5:25–27 to draw a bold parallel between Israel’s idolatrous ancestors—who worshiped the golden calf, Molech, and the “star of their god Rephan”—and his own contemporaries, who had elevated the Law and the Temple into hollow religious trappings.
We then follow Stephen as he reminds his listeners of the Tabernacle—God’s movable dwelling among the people through the wilderness and into the Promised Land—and how even David and Solomon’s magnificent Temple never confined the presence of the Most High. Drawing on prophetic passages from Isaiah, Stephen drives home the unforgettable truth that “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool” (Acts 7:49), challenging us to consider where—and how—we truly seek God today.
