  2. Grealish DROPPED As Everton Beat Newcastle! Carabao Cup Reaction & QF Draw

    Show notes

Ian Croll is joined by Chris Beesley and Gavin Buckland to break down a dramatic night for Everton both on and off the pitch.

Just moments before kick-off, the club confirmed that Jack Grealish was unavailable for selection due to an internal breach of club discipline, understood to stem from an unauthorised absence from training. The panel reacts to the breaking news: how has David Moyes handled the situation, what message does this send to the squad, and where does Grealish go from here?

On the pitch, the Blues delivered when it mattered most, securing an impressive 3-1 victory over Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup to book a quarter-final clash against Fleetwood Town.

David Moyes rotated his side for the cup tie, handing starts to Tyler Dibling, Hayden Hackney, and Tyrique George. The lads examine what went right on the night, whether the fresh faces did enough to force their way into the manager's regular starting eleven, and what this cup run could mean for Everton's season.

Finally, the panel look ahead to Monday night as Everton head straight back to Tyneside for a quick Premier League rematch against Newcastle United at St James' Park. Can the Blues make it back-to-back wins over Matthias Jaissle’s side and take all three points on the road?

    Show notes

Join host Chris Beesley for a very special edition of the Royal Blue Podcast, as he sits down for an exclusive and fiercely candid chat with former teenage footballing sensation, Billy Kenny.

When Billy made his debut for his boyhood heroes Everton in 1992, he was widely dubbed the finest young talent in the country. A scintillating performance in the very first Merseyside derby of the Premier League era led to teammate Peter Beardsley famously nicknaming him ‘The Goodison Gazza’—cementing his reputation as a young midfielder with the world at his feet.

But just three years later, it was all over.

In this deeply moving and raw interview, Billy opens up about his rapid departure from the game, retiring after being dogged by severe drug and alcohol issues that eventually took him to the brink of death. He speaks openly about enduring betrayal and heartbreak, injury and arrest, and reveals how it ultimately took a devastating family tragedy, a stint in prison, and two hard-fought spells in rehab to help him finally find a more positive path forward.

Now, three decades on from his dizzying breakthrough at Goodison Park, Billy is finally ready to tell his extraordinary story for the first time.

Hart, whose previous publications include Here We Go: Everton in the 1980s and World in Motion: The Inside Story of Italia ‘90 the tournament that changed football, has produced what the Daily Mail’s Ian Herbert describes as: “A beautifully written and meticulously researched portrait of an extraordinary football life.”

Lifelong Evertonian Lyons, born in Mill Lane Maternity Hospital in Everton and raised at5 Malpas Road, Croxteth, had a season ticket in the Bullens Road Paddock before making his first team debut when Harry Catterick’s Blues were reigning League Champions. However, despite only five other players topping his 473 appearances for Everton, silverware eluded him in over 11 years in the first team at Goodison Park.

Going on to turn out for Sheffield Wednesday, Grimsby Town and the Nova Scotia Clippers in Canada, Lyons later returned to the Blues as a member of the coaching staff while holding a variety of managerial positions across the globe, including a stint in charge of the Brunei national team. Now based in Australia, he is living with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia with the diagnosis citing ‘multiple impacts’ from the repeated heading of a football, such was Lyons’ noted bravery and commitment to the cause while playing the game he loved.

Welcome back to the Royal Blue Podcast! 🔵

In this special live episode, host Chris Beesley sits down in the studio with world-renowned American architect Dan Meis, the visionary behind Everton Football Club’s state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Chris and Dan look back on a landmark inaugural season on the Liverpool waterfront. Following the emotional farewell to Goodison Park, the Toffees transitioned into their new home—playing in front of the highest average attendances in the club’s long and storied history. The pair also discuss the broader football landscape under The Friedkin Group, delving into the latest updates regarding Italian giants AS Roma and their ongoing stadium development plans in Italy, where Dan’s expertise once again meets the multi-club vision of Everton’s ownership.
