Running Down The Hill: Little House On The Prairie Original Series Recaps

Our guest this week is from the Nightmare Echoes podcast- we welcome Eleazar we talk about what Little House means to each of us: our favorite characters and early episodes, and a surprising link to The Village by M. Night Shyamalan. We also take on a big question: should you get a plaque for giving an expensive gift to a church? And what is Mrs. Oleson really after?

Next, we turn to the episode itself. We cover production trivia, the history behind the story, sign language and communication, and how Tinker Jones in the books differs from the show. We follow the church bell fight as it splits the town's adults and drags in the children, until the kids build a bell of their own and give Tinker a voice.

Eleazar is the host of the podcast Nightmare Echoes, where you can embrace your horror obsession. On Nightmare Echoes, Eleazar and his cohosts cover not just horror, but horror comedies and parodies, as well as mysteries such as M. Night Shyamalan's The Village, of which Steve Barnes was a guest!

This episode on Running Down The Hill, we have double trouble- Nathan and Reed from the Fear Of God Podcast join to talk about Town Party Country Party, a fan favorite and a fantastic Nellie Oleson episode to boot. As we discuss the beats of the episode, Nathan and Reed discuss being fathers, especially to daughters; how fathers can react either overwhelming positive or negative, depending on the situation and timing; and of course, PARTIES! and whether or not we prefer Town Parties or Country Parties. I also force them to say something nice about Nellie.

THE FEAR OF GOD PODCAST is a faith based show discussing horror films, and how the same things that scare us, can also save us. Check them out, and their Patreon, all right here:

The guys from the Fear Of God Podcast have some astute observations about the youngest Ingalls daughter. Clip from the podcast "Running Down The Hill".

On this podcast episode or Running Down The Hill, we watched "Mr. Edwards' Homecoming" from season 1, and Steve is joined by podcast producer and host Aradia from the Fox and Raven Media Network! Aradia hosts 4 different podcasts on the Fox and Raven Medianetwork, and just so happens to not only be a fan of Little House, but was raised by a mother who was also a Little House fan of both the show and books. We discuss this episode at Aradia's request, specifically so we can talk about Mr. Edwards in general! We watch as Mr. Edwards moves into the Ingalls family barn, easily scores a job at Hanson's Mill, and has a will-they-won't-they relationship with Postmaster Grace Snider.

Aradia hosts a Wheel Of Time Podcast called Wheel Of Time Spoilers; a sewing based podcast called Used2Sew; a Dungeon Crawler Carl based podcast called Podcast It, Donut!; and a special interest podcast called Autistic Stuff For Autistic People. Check them out here:

This week, for our Little House On The Prairie discussion, we watched "The 100 Mile Walk" and are joined by Discord pal Chad AKA Green for his first viewing of Little House. I fill Green in on a lot of Little House backstory and lore, as well as the real Charles Ingalls 100 Mile Walk that Laura wrote about in her book series. Listen in to hear Green's first impressions of Little House, and whether or not he enjoyed it enough to watch more episodes.

This week, for our Little House On The Prairie discussion, we watched "A Harvest Of Friends", the 2nd episode of season 1, and Steve is joined by his daughter Charlotte Barnes, and this is her first Little House experience. She is a fan of Amish culture, and this episode reminds her of the Amish traits she admires, such as community ties, family loyalty, and a strong faith in God. Listen in to see what she thinks of Little House!

This week, for our Little House On The Prairie discussion, we watched "If I Should Wake Before I Die", the 6th episode of season 1, and Steve is joined by his son Caleb Barnes, who, as a younger man, has never watched Little House before. His first Little House experience is this episode, a very death heavy episode, full of missed relatives and grieving, and doesn't feature much of the kids; but we enjoy the "prank", and we talk about having a party in the face of mortality., and what life has been like as a Little Barnes On The Prairie!

This week, for our Little House On The Prairie discussion, we watched "Country Girls", the 2nd official episode of season 1, and the first appearance of Allison Arngrim as Nellie Oleson! Steve Barnes is joined by Deshanta of the "GenX Gon Give It To Ya" podcast to talk about Nellie, Laura, our personal childhood bullies, growing up Gen X, and our shared love of Little House.

Deshanta (DeeDee) hosts GenX Gon Give It To Ya; she is a Bronx-born storyteller and self-proclaimed human jukebox. Her show talks hip-hop, music history, pop culture, and the memories that raised us—then turns it into a big ol’ block party.

This week, it's back to the prairie as we watch and discuss "The Raccoon" (or is it "The Racoon"? ), which is the 10th episode of season 1. Mary gives Laura a baby raccoon to take care of, since she accidentally broke her beloved porcelain doll Janet. Somehow the whole town thinks this is a great idea! Steve is joined by his frequent cohost James McCollum on this episode.
