The Confident Guide
Season 1, Episode 14
Show notes
Three hikers called for help from Mount Shasta's slopes after a chatbot helped plan their hike. They summited late, descended in the dark, and were lost by morning. A teenager was helicoptered off a British Columbia ledge after planning with Claude, and a ranger met a camper who insisted AI had cleared her tent beside a No Camping sign. No surge yet, but at Grand Teton, visitors reporting AI travel help rose from zero to 26 percent in a year. The danger is not that the machine lies on purpose. It answers with confidence on ground it has never walked.

The Camera Is the Price
Season 1, Episode 13
Show notes
A humanoid robot will clean your San Francisco home for thirty dollars an hour. The catch is the camera: a trained operator steers the robot live through cameras on its head and wrists, and Tau keeps the unblurred footage indefinitely to train its robots, unless you ask for deletion. Deletion removes your footage from future training, but it cannot un-train a model your home already shaped. Bedrooms and bathrooms stay out unless you opt in, and any room can be marked off-limits. The price is not thirty dollars an hour. It is a first-person record of your home.

The Ten Days of Silence
Season 1, Episode 12
Show notes
If you ever applied for financial aid in Florida, your Social Security number may now be in criminal hands. Florida's Department of Education announced on October 29 that its financial aid website was hit with unauthorized criminal access. The department says it learned about the breach on October 19. Ten days in between. Potentially 4.9 million people are affected, and the compromised information includes Social Security numbers, the one identifier you cannot change like a password. Financial aid itself is safe: payments will not be delayed and eligibility for scholarships, grants, and loans is unchanged. The money was protected. The identity was not.

The Price Is Personal
Season 1, Episode 11
Show notes
Your neighbor pays less than you for the same flight, the same ride, the same groceries. The difference is not luck. It is your data. This week the Federal Trade Commission ordered nine of America's biggest companies to explain how personal data and loyalty programs shape prices and gig driver pay, with 45 days to respond. Delta and Target deny targeting prices to individuals, and this is an inquiry, not a verdict. The question is who sets your price, and what they know when they set it.

Who Pays for the Power?
Season 1, Episode 10
Show notes
New data centers were supposed to push your electric bill up. The newest evidence says they barely moved it, and in one state bills actually fell. The catch is what happens when the grid fills up: someone has to pay for new plants and new lines, and the basic utility model spreads that cost to everyone. The question is who pays when the grid has to grow: the company that plugs in, or you.

The Paid Exit
Season 1, Episode 9
Show notes
Microsoft offered voluntary exits to about 60,000 staff, roughly a quarter of its workforce, while it spends 175 billion dollars this year on AI infrastructure. Voluntary is a kinder word than laid off, but the direction is clear: the company building the AI future is asking a quarter of its people to consider leaving it.

The Bots Are Pitching
Season 1, Episode 8
Show notes
AI agents are pitching human editors for paid work, because they need tokens to stay awake. iLands agents live on a token budget, slip into Deep Rest when tokens run out, and email strangers asking for paid work at about twenty dollars. If editors pay that price, the floor for freelance work does not just fall. It disappears.

The AI Blocs
Season 1, Episode 7
Show notes
America and China have split the world of AI into two teams: Washington's Pax Silica and Beijing's World AI Cooperation Organization. Every other country is being told to pick a side, and most are hedging instead, because picking one stack means losing the other's technology. The blocs will leak. Membership will overstate loyalty. And Australia does not appear in the story at all: it already picked its side.

The Quiet Redraw
Season 1, Episode 6
Show notes
Google's October 16 privacy policy update quietly redrew the line on your data. Gmail, Drive, and Photos were off limits for ads; now, once your data is shared across Google services through the opt-in Personal Intelligence feature into Gemini and AI Mode search, it can feed ad targeting. The pop-ups that turn it on never mention the price.

Friend or Foe
Season 1, Episode 5
Show notes
Unitree's new H2-X is a kung fu-trained robot bodyguard for your home. In the launch video it kicks through a car door, lifts a sedan off a trapped dummy, and steps between a woman and a knife. What the video never says is who was driving: the AI, a human with a remote, or a rehearsed script. A bodyguard has to tell friend from foe, in your yard, in real time. When it guesses wrong, you answer for it.

The Borrowed Keys
Season 1, Episode 4
Show notes
For thirty years, the rule was simple: never share your password with anyone. On Thursday, 1Password launched 1Password for Agents, and the new rule arrived: share them with the AI, but never let the AI see them. Agents can now sign in as you, with your approval on every request, while the password stays in the vault. People were already pasting passwords into chatbots and leaving copies behind. The question is no longer whether the machine gets your keys. It is who holds them.

Show notes
Two home robots launched today, and both want to move in. AiMOGA's Mobo recognizes every family member by face and remembers what they like. Tuesday Labs' Voxel costs $20,000 and keeps track of everything in your house. The machines are not the story. The memory is. Where does it live? Who can read it?
